Off-Road Adventure: Navigating the Nada Tunnel to Spaas Creek and Pumpkin Hollow Trails

- Today we begin our adventure on the Kentucky Adventure Tour on the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway, going through the Nada Tunnel, going 600 feet up in elevation along Spaas Creek then onto Pumpkin Hollow before we found camp in a small clearing along the trail. The trails are steep with dozens of creek crossings, deep rutted up climbs, rocky areas, and some narrow ledge climbs. Both were fun but more technical than I expected and definitely requires 4x4 and high clearance with offroad tires to make it.

I just did Spaas Creek today (Jan 2, 2024) and the creeks were lower, almost dry, but it was still muddy as hell with plenty of large puddles.
I got through in my FJ Cruiser with a 2" lift and 32" AT tires. But hooooooooly crap there were so many places I didn't even want to try to get through, but the FJ just ate it up and kept going!
Awesome! Its a cool trail for sure and strong work with the FJ, proof that the vehicles can go much further than we think they can!
@FischerJeepAdventures for sure! I'm very new to offloading and I feel like my FJ kept wanting me to just go and stop being so tentative and anxious 🙃
Outstanding, remember lower air pressure is your friend both for traction and comfort, use four wheel drive before you need it, and always have a plan B. This community is pretty cool and its a heck of a way to spend a weekend. Enjoy the trails!
@@FischerJeepAdventures yeah! I was 4 wheel-low from the first mud puddle!
And I didn't want the "hassle" of airing down, but I was probably only 15 minutes down the trail before I took them down to 22psi.

This is a great section of the KAT. Parts of Pumpkin Hollow Rd can get sketchy in some places ... nice video
Thanks and yes the section of spaas creek and pumpkin hollow I can imagine can be nasty in the right/wrong conditions and the rest of the time where the KAT and The DBBB are together was my favorite parts of the trail for sure
