Where American is today has lead to and supports where America has always been for 200 years. You can't discuss one without the other. This is what Mr. Banner was saying. White need to listen and stop telling Black Americans how they should interpret, feel or think about their history and experience, past and present.
You would never think of telling a Jewish person how they should feel about, interpret or speak of their Holocaust. Why is it different for Native blacks Americans. Non-native Black Americans tend to feel Native Black Americans are not worthy of their own history nor pain.
