This ninja 650 is for somebody who wants a sporty bike with decent performance and has no pretense of being Valentino Rossi. I owned a Versys 650 (and also liter sports bikes) and it has plenty of real world performance.
A good all round bike, a beginner could buy it and be happy . An experienced rider could enjoy it as a fun little commuter. The TFT is a great move by Kawasaki to raise the bar for electronics in an affordable bike.
Great review, sharp looking motorcycle! I’d say that Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki need to catch up with Kawasaki in regards to including a high quality TFT on their motorcycles! Good job Kawasaki!
I have always liked the ninja650, it's great for a smaller person who likes touring and sport touring. I had the 2006 model. Only complaint was a bad seat and cheap suspension. I can imagine how good of a bike this one is. The styling is way better too.
Have been waiting anxiously for your vlog on Kawasaki 650! Such a brilliant presentation, as always! Such a big fan of your channel mate! Lot's of love from India 🇮🇳👍✌️
Or even when you are on a straight road and trying to get some speed out of it? How is the seating can you tuck and is it enough to get around the wind?
Great review!! Spot on with your assessment. I have the 2019 Ninja 650 ABS (orange & black) and I love it. Bought it brand new in Aug of 2019. The only things I wish it had from this model is that beautiful TFT dash and the LED headlights. I've done quite a few different mods to make it my own. Puig 2.0 levers, MRA windscreen, exhaust, rear seat cowl, exhaust and radiator guards. I need to do a fender eliminator kit, I'm waiting for NRC's version for this bike. Once you put an aftermarket full exhaust on this bike, it really wakes it up and does a world of good for the sound the bike makes. I went with the Yoshimura Alpha full exhaust and it's awesome!! You don't even have to tune the bike if you don't want too. The pops and bangs are a nice touch and I can even get it to shoot some nice flames 😂 I am planning on getting the ECU flashed though, it will smooth out the throttle, increase rev limiter, decrease engine braking, get proper air/fuel ratio and overall just give it more power through the whole rev range! I can't wait to see how the bike is after an ECU flash 👍 I'm not sure if I should change the gearing or just leave it stock, I'm going to upgrade the chain and sprockets though. Honestly, the stock tires on the '19 aren't that great, sounds like the same issue for 2020 model. Dunlop Sportmax I think they are on the '19's. I bought the Metzler M7 RR's I just haven't had them installed yet. I'll be doing that soon though as well. This quarantine stuff has made things are bit more difficult.
Lovely exhaust note and attractive design. It seems Kawasaki has got a winner in 650 cc category. The video is nice as always. Most of the first impression videos would be replete with boring BGM and dramatisation. But you guys always keep it short and to the point and that's the USP of this channel. Waiting for the full review of the motorcycle.
“But you don’t want to see your Chiropractor to have your spine reset.” 😂😂 So true. A few months back I rode my Zx6R about 400 miles round trip. I felt like a broken man. Love my bike but it has a far different purpose then the 650. I typically try and convince people to think realistically when they get a daily bike. Power is great but as you mentioned, trips to the Chiropractor aren’t. Thanks for the review 👍🏽
Nice review. I agree with most of what you said. I owned the 2018 model for two years and 10,000 miles as my first "big bike" after DAS. I used it for my IAM course and test, on novice track days and for a tour to France. It's a great and versatile bike, very non-intimidating and super comfortable, just like you said. You can definitely learn to use most of that power and torque on B-roads without being intimidated and I found it to be very safe and reliable. It has enough power to threaten your license if you purposefully want to do 80+ on country lanes, but it won't do it without you noticing. You can definitely make short work of overtakes and city work equally well - I have a few videos on my channel that feature my Ninja 650. It's nice and frugal in town on faster roads. I was getting ~180 miles out of a full tank (IAM safe and legal progressive riding 😇) doing mostly weekend B-road scratching - I'd fill up after 120 miles with 60 miles of range indicated. The warning light comes on with 30 miles of fuel left (which happened for me a few times, at the 150 mile mark). I wouldn't call it a "sports bike", for me it was more of a "sports tourer" because of the big bar risers and clip-ons. Wind protection is acceptable for a basic budget sports-tourer, though changing the screen setting is a bit of a faff as it requires an allen key and a lot of bolts. But once I found the best setting for me, it just stayed in one place. The two modifications I did were: 1) tyres - upgraded to Pirelli Angel GT IIs on a "buy rear get front free" deal, as the OEM Dunlop D214s were absolutely awful with any hint of moisture and the rear was squaring off after 4,500 miles. This was an absolutely brilliant upgrade and improved the handling immensely as the Angels were so much more pliable, and wet-weather performance was very confidence-inspiring. 2) installed Hyperpro progressive springs which stiffened up the front and made it much more stable. The main reason I moved on from it was because I wanted to do a little bit of two-up touring and the Ninja 650 really is not good for that. The pillion seat is tiny, there are no grab handles, and the rear shock is... shockingly soft! OK for one-up, but unless both rider and passenger are anorexic, riding two up is positively terrifying. I'm 85kg without gear on, and with rider sag properly set I had to be on maximum preload.
Thanks for the video. I'm currently riding a 2011 Ninja 250r and having a blast the thing fits me like a glove. I've also ridden a Royal Enfield GT 650 and a Virago 250 and I enjoy the Ninja .... I was looking at the Vulcan S or the Versys but I keep coming back to the Ninja. So when I am ready to upgrade I wouldn't be surprised if I stick with the Ninja 650.
Really nice bike! I have a 2012 model. Only thing I can complaint about is vibrations on steering handlebars when I'm riding 100 km/h with about 4600 rpm for more than 15 minutes.. The vibrations are small, but in the long term you will feel it. I can ride almost 400 km on full tank 15,5 litres, that is awesome. Do not think there are any other middle weight bikes with 72 hp using less fuel.
The best TFT on wheels for me is the one in the newer BMWs. It's the biggest, clear as day and has all the info you need plus some customization posible and the Connect app is also pretty cool.
Owner since 3 months ago, agree on the handling and that the consumption is quite low, however the Rideology APP is VEEERY buggy still, and the seat is not comfortable, is quite hard (typical Kawasaki), my friends CBR650R has a more comfortable seat. Fortunately you can fit an aftermarket one.
Great review. Kawasakis' offerings in the 650 class are my second choice. That sewing machine sound and character just doesn't inspire me. I'd rather go with the looks and character of the SV650 personally. If Kawasaki made a modern 650 L-twin, I'd likely go Team Green.
Has Kawasaki ever used a V-twin in a bike that wasn't a cruiser? I can't remember any. For that matter I don't think they've used anything but a 180 degree crank in their parallel twins, including the cruisers like the Vulcan S.
im still debating if i wana get this vs the CBR 650. But a common theme ive heard across different reviews is the comfort factor. And in this video you mention the access for shorter people... Im only 167 cm... so mmmm points to this one. Thank you for your very comprehensive review
No. That's like asking to see how the Toyota Tacoma does on a road course. Buy a track bike if you like going to the track, buy this bike for the real world. Not that this couldn't be ripped around a track, but that's not its purpose.
@@RyanMcIntyre I know that i still put everything on track. Also a Honda Goldwing on track would be more like putting a Tacoma on a road course. A Ninja 650 is like putting a GT car on track. It's sporty it can do it but it wasn't its main intent.
I'm no expert, but two days ago i test rode a 2018 650 ninja right after a cbr650r test ride. The cbr got up speed so easily and quickly, I barely noticed, whereas with the ninja, I definitely noticed and it felt like a bit more work. Overtaking still no problem on the ninja though. I was told I was positioned with a bit more of a forward lean on the cbr, and on the ninja I was fairly upright. Cbr has a higher seat. I felt more at home on the ninja, personally - it wouldn't take long to become confident with it, I think. Overall, the cbr is more aggressive, the ninja more accessible and friendly. IMO
I agree with Robyn Simmons take. You might take a look at the cb650r (the naked version). A more comfortable riding position. It looks awesome with the exposed engine and exhaust, it just could use an aftermarket windscreen for longer rides. Surprisingly, give the 2020 Kawasaki z900 (not the rs) a look. Also the new dash looks absolutely awesome and would definetely factor in for me if i was to choose between the two. Far more premium feel. MT 07 is all about the engine. Considerably more powerful especially at the top end, combined with a lighter weight you really feel the difference in pulling power. A few things to consider are your own dimensions (lots of people are uncomfortable on the kawa because it is a physically smaller bike : cramped) And your riding style, i always felt like the ride was smoother, and in control on the ninja whereas on the MT it was always more nervous, exciting, less stable but just as entertaining. It is far easier to wheelie on the MT. PS you should also consider the suzuki sv650 and the honda cb650r although the latter is considerably higher in price and power.

Nice video. I had 2017 model, great tourer and a city bike. The front fairing in the new version always reminds me of the Platypus bill and makes me uncomfortable. Not good at all.
Really like the looks, but like with the Z650 I'd pull out the lawnmower sounding engine and swap it with the crossplane engine of it's Yamaha rival...
@@pjeng1 You're right. At higher revs it kinda starts sounding like a V4 which is also awesome. Only a shame that you can't always rev high with city riding.
@@MegaSharbin , I agree with that you wrote. I test rode the Z650 and the Ninja 650 back to back and preferred the ergonomics (windscreen, mirrors) on the Ninja. The Ninja was also very good in town and filtering work (have a look at my channel, there are a few videos on that). Personally I really dislike the styling on the Versys and really like the styling on the Ninja. But that's a matter of aesthetic preference so each to their own.
Parallel twin engines, at idle, sound like out of tune lawnmowers...awful. Buy an SV650 instead and make some easy and tasty mods like exhaust, braided brake lines, power commander tuning, basic suspension mods. Less money, great performance and reliability and far more 'character'. IMHO...of course!
Why Ninja Bikes have ugly looking cowl ? The H2 inspired face looks really really absurd !!! Can someone communicate Kawasaki about it's Ugly unbalanced front face? The previous generation models were way better looking
Are you serious? This bikes smokes 99,9% of cars till 60mph...a 70hp 190kg bike with a 80kg rider has a better power to weight than a 1200kg 300hp car and doesnt destroy the clutch after 3 power launches...
This with the 636s powerplant, but tuned for torque.
Rather a tour capable ZX6R with a less comitted position and I'd do it.
Absolutely, that engine on the Versys platform and tuned for torque. I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
It needs a little more excitement at the top range, and a better soundtrack of course.
That would put it in a different class. IL4s are more expensive to make than twins.

I can’t pick the ninja 650 or the s 650
Really like the looks, but like with the Z650 I'd pull out the lawnmower sounding engine and swap it with the crossplane engine of it's Yamaha rival...
The sound of a sewing machine engine exists mostly at idle and it starts to sound much better above 4000 rpm.
@@pjeng1 You're right. At higher revs it kinda starts sounding like a V4 which is also awesome. Only a shame that you can't always rev high with city riding.
I prefer the older one, this one looks like a ninja 400
145 miles per tank is not “ frugal “
Depends on the size of the tank
@@Gautam454 True! It's only a dinky little fuel tank so 140 miles is pretty good.
Visordown Motorcycle Videos you said 14 let tank 140 miles ,that's not all that my 790 duke 14 ltre tank will do 180 miles and that's not nursing it .
I have a versys 650 ....which gives me a comfortable 25kmpl ,when I am touring, which in turn gives me a range of 450+ km per...tank
Audio and video leaving a lot to be desired here.
Either Versys if you need more protective fairing and touring or naked Z for city and quick weekend ride. This does not make much sense to me.
Seems to just be a competitor to honda’s cbr650
If someone's looking for something sportier than the Versys but more comfortable (and cheaper) than the ZX6R, it makes perfect sense.
@@jackgambino2687 Is it not more of CBR500R competitor?
Adrian SB ninja 400 for that?
@@MegaSharbin , I agree with that you wrote. I test rode the Z650 and the Ninja 650 back to back and preferred the ergonomics (windscreen, mirrors) on the Ninja. The Ninja was also very good in town and filtering work (have a look at my channel, there are a few videos on that). Personally I really dislike the styling on the Versys and really like the styling on the Ninja. But that's a matter of aesthetic preference so each to their own.
Put some Fairings on the z900 Kawasaki.
good bike good reveiw
cool zx636r
First ride plus 150% sit down and talk wtf bro
you mean sport touring?
filmed with iphone 3g
You really need a better mic
Bet the garage love you, revving the bollox off it and burning it out. Jeez.
they are closed due to COVID and the owner is a close friend - I'd already warned him! :)
Legit thought he was chris harris
Alvin Cornelius Chris who?
an easy tell is the 6r doesn't sound like a tractor
Parallel twin engines, at idle, sound like out of tune lawnmowers...awful.
Buy an SV650 instead and make some easy and tasty mods like exhaust, braided brake lines, power commander tuning, basic suspension mods. Less money, great performance and reliability and far more 'character'. IMHO...of course!
nice
That pathetic sound is killing it....
I am off to MT07.
Did you record this with your calculator???
No ride on board video
We will on the full review video coming. Stay tuned!
@@visordown ,thanks,i will
Didn't he just fart? Omg🤣🤣🤣🤣
chris harris
get a better camera video quality is not good
Why Ninja Bikes have ugly looking cowl ? The H2 inspired face looks really really absurd !!! Can someone communicate Kawasaki about it's Ugly unbalanced front face? The previous generation models were way better looking
67bhp! Couldn't pull the skin of rice pud!
Okay, well, we'll try that in the next review - although I'm pretty sure it can!
@@visordown would be much better with the parallel twin out of the 790 Duke then it would have the performance to match the looks👍
Are you serious? This bikes smokes 99,9% of cars till 60mph...a 70hp 190kg bike with a 80kg rider has a better power to weight than a 1200kg 300hp car and doesnt destroy the clutch after 3 power launches...
Kamen rider motorcycle
LOL Is he saying "zelex6r"?? lol I think he means ZX6r.
Kelley Manning not sure where I said that?
Pretty sure he said zedex not zelex. Care to try again?
Kawasaki get rid of all them hexagons on the bodywork of your bikes they look awful!😫
Very amateurish. You should have watched it before posting, and then done a couple of rehearsals before a new take.
LOL Is he saying "Zed650" instead of Z650? LOL
This bike and any other bike under 100hp is dangerous on the road. Just sayin
how so?
Try an extremely safe 50 CC scooter with a top speed of 35 miles per hour.
Lolololololololol yeah, a 300hp ninja is way safer...have you ever ridden a motorbike or only playstation games?
@@farmoboy83 I currently own a 2019 Kawasaki Z900 RS with 111 hp and my top speed so far is 45 miles per hour in the city riding.
Amazing machine...
