Why Far Cry 6 Didn’t Feel Like Far Cry?

- Far Cry 6 lacks the elements that make a Far Cry game interesting. It's a soulless open world with lots of nonsense and a cluttered map that makes one question Ubisoft's intentions. I'll explain why Far Cry 6 didn't feel like a Far Cry Game in this video.

I thought you had more subs. This video was really great!
OMG thank you! That really means a lot to me, thanks for creating awesome music!
@@TruePhoque Thank you very very much! These words keep me going!
@@skye_music Never stop doing what you're doing! One day everything will be going to work out just the way you always wanted!
@@TruePhoque Same for you!
The not so subtle virtual signalling and ridiculous character development was cringe, i tend to look past it but the story was so awful and uninspired I ended up turning it off after around 30 hours.
The story gets worse as you progress through the game, so I'm not surprised to hear that you had to drop the game since it becomes so unbearable...
Wow, you made it 30 hours? I couldn’t get past five hours.
No one talks about how far cry 3 falls off real quick once Vaas dies half way through the game. I’ve been going through all the far cry games and really the gameplay engages me more than the story. I’ve enjoyed all of them so far.
Is far cry 6 fun if you ignore the bullet and ammo types??
Indeed, gameplay was always more important in those games, but at least they always had a decent story with meaningful stuff. However, Far Cry 6 throws all of that stuff out the second it lets you play the game sadly. Also, I believe that Far Cry 4 made everything good about Far Cry 3 even better and it's a stronger entry in the series in general.
It didn’t fall off. Just because a fan fav villain isn’t the final villain doesn’t mean the whole game “falls off”
@@vonnstevens2502the second island and the villain on it were definitely very lacklustre compared to the first tho
@@JohnWall-lj1mx still doesnt mean it fell off tho
I didn’t have a problem with Anton’s lack of representation, he’s running the country and doesn’t have time to chase me down. But having Admiral Benitez was dumb, they try to portray a FASCIST REGIME that has a WOMAN in charge of the entire navy. What I didn’t like about this game was that it’s clearly trying to be a commentary on Cuba, but they swapped communism with fascism yet didn’t even do a convincing job of portraying fascism. Anton’s FASCIST regime is somehow so progressive that they’re perfectly fine with having a WOMAN as their Admiral of their entire navy, but they draw a line at trans people existing. Ubisoft doesn’t know what fascism is
That's an extremely interesting point you have mentioned and I totally agree with it.
No one these days knows what fascism. Most people especially companies like this think authoritarian = Fascism.
The complexities of fascism are honestly too much for smooth brains like ubisoft and it annoys me everytime media tries to portray it
I don’t think a tenet of fascism is female exclusion, but you are correct that they swapped a communist regime for a fascist one, and portrayed communists in a positive light.
It’s quite literally because members of the dev team are outspoken communists and cultural marxists.
In Italy right now we have a fascist government and the president is a woman, don’t get stuck with your 1940 cliches ideas that you have seen in the movies. Dictatorships can be hidden anywhere
Fascism relies on equal oppertunity and meritocratic militarism. Sorry if that's a mouthful. But basically, not all fascist regimes adhere to the idea of women not serving.
Far cry 6: *has too many problems*
Ubisoft: "Let's not address them and instead make a live service game!"
This is the best way to summarize the state of Far Cry 6 imo. Thanks for watching!
@@TruePhoque too many people seem to be afraid to tell you the truth. There are no good farcry games since farcry 2.
@@Al-Cohol999 Haha, Far Cry 2 gang is the best to be honest.
I actually really like Far Cry 6, the ammo mechanic was really fun. I always loved using the gas ammo then switching to the fire ammo to blow people up. There’s also this dune buggy thing that a transform into a plane that’s extremely fun to drive. There’s this one companion that’s like a black Panther that’s straight up overpowered and the best one in the game. Granted maybe i just love slop because 4,5,6 and blood dragon were all very enjoyable to me.
I'm glad that you found the game enjoyable. I wish it respected the franchise's name more, was less goofy, and took itself more seriously.
The reason Castillo barely knows Danny exists and focuses on Clara is the whole "Girl Power to the Max" thing Ubisoft has been stuck on since Assassins Creed Odyssey. They had to make Clara the star of the show to make sure that whatever gender the players chose(and they damn well knew what gender the vast majority would choose), an Ultimate Girlboss would be the real star of the story.
My problem is that He knows about other factions too. Even in some scenes he is completely aware of Dani's character but in the rest of the game, he acts as if Dani doesn't exist!
@@TruePhoque Makes sense that Antoine would have a focus on every faction leader but Dany. Each of the other factions were all lead by a girlboss too. Except for the one that was split between girlboss and transboss. The farmers were all about setting up the blade chick as the girlboss star, and the Matanzas faction was the girlboss/transboss duo. And by far the worst, most non-sensical quest chain of the game.
The only one I liked because at least it had comedy was El Tigre's faction....so naturally they killed him off so we could focus on the Zoomer Squad lead by...you guessed it. Another girlboss. And of course Tigre's team got taken over by the cranky geriatric girlboss.
Ironic that the Tigre quest line killed the only girl in the whole damn game that I found genuinely likable.
Typical Ubisoft playbook for the last decade. They were gonnas make abso-damn-sure that whatever gender choice the players made, the girls...even the girl with a mustache...were gonna be driving the story.
Can you think of another reason why Dani seemed so unimportant to Castillo for most of the game?
Awesome female protagonists are not new to gamers but these cringe AF girlbosses? I'm over it. It's to a point now where I just assume any female on screen...especially if it's Ubisoft...is gonna be the cringiest girlboss who ever girlbossed a girlboss. These clowns ruining gaming are even retroactively breaking once-great heroines like Lara Croft.
The gaming industry layoffs are not a problem. They're a solution. But we still got years ahead of us before any semblance of normalcy and quality returns.
Ah yes, the classic "girl power to the max" aka women existing as protagonists in video games
@@mncrft3386 I'm now left here trying to comprehend the sheer effing ignorance it takes to think there was EVER a lack of women existing as protagonists in video games.
Now i'm trying to imagine the level of sheer effing idiocy required to publicly declare one's own ignorance on that subject.
It's gonna take a while for me to process the sheer volume of data in both scenarios. I'll get back to you with a proper response once i'm done.
@@TheCrimsonRevenger provide me with a valid reasoning as to why Kassandra in Odyssey is a girlboss lmao
I didn't mind the game and although the ending was poor my biggest gripe about the game was I didn't like a single character.
That says a lot about this game's story and writing...
My favorites were Juan because I like his type of character in all media, Jonron and Yelena and Yami because they're hot, and Bicho because I found him to be a lovable idiot. The rest I either felt nothing for (I cared about Dani less than the protagonists from FC5 and New Dawn) or hated (like 2/3 of Maximas Matanzas and Philly).
I'll never forget the fat kid (forgot his name) getting so upset that Bembe keeps trolling and getting in the way of Dani so much. He goes out of his way to try to kill him. Only for Bembe to shit talk him to his face and make the fat guy want to kill himself. And Dani, The Player. Having to drive ALL THE WAY to help the fat guy. Tells him to not kill himself. And then LETS BEMBE GO
The games writing, and characters is something out of sci Fi level bad
@@timhefty504 I liked Juan until he sold you out.
Here’s what I didn’t like about it. 1. The RPG mechanics. I don’t want a leveling system or gun levels or any of that crap I just want to use what I like without worrying about what level gear it is an effectiveness on enemies, 2. I thought the backpack weapons were lowkey lame. 3. The fact there was a whole city in the open world and you couldn’t really do much in it like take vehicles and aircraft in 4. The removal of far cry arcade. 5. The graphics in my opinion look worse than far cry 5. 6. The story was kind of forgettable which is a crime when you have Giancarlo as your main villain. 7. The gameplay felt clunky. If I had to guess I think it’s from the rpg mechanics whereas far cry 5 was much smoother. And 8. I think the open world was kind of forgettable and I didn’t really need a central hub area. Also I guess 9. A lot of the gear and weapons were lame anyway.
One positive thing I have to say is the stranger things dlc was kind of cool. I just wish we got to fight more enemies from the show in it. But I had a good time with that expansion.
That's a fair list. I agree with it completely. I think the RPG mechanics are a reason to artificially elongate the gameplay time and force users to either quit or buy microtransaction which is a shame tbh...
@@TruePhoque agreed
hopefully ubisoft will double down on their mistakes in 7 :)
let's hope they learn a thing or two about how to not betray their fanbase lol.
One step forward, 4 steps back
Trans Person to Dani, who has just witnessed her entire family been murdered by military regime committing genocide, so she undertakes a mission to try save the rest of the population from the regime 'It's hard being trans in Yara'. The most pathetic writing i have seen in any video game, and Ubisoft has massive budgets. Outrageous.
Maximas Matanzas section had the worst writing compared to every other game Ubisoft has ever released...
Stupid RPG mechanics and ammo system that removes heavy enemy type.
Not enough dangerous animals.
Game was too easy.
Tone was too funny and unrealistic, half of the game was serious, half was funny. Felt like Saints Row combined with Far Cry.
Third person cutscenes remove the power from the villain yelling in your face.
No map editor.
7/10
Ah, the map editor's absence was a massive hit. Although I didn't include it in the video, I still think about it from time to time. It's one of those things that keeps adding to a game's value and the lack of it is just baffling to me, especially with how good the editor from Far Cry 5 was, it's weird that Ubisoft didn't want more people to invest time in Far Cry 6...
Vaas: goes absolutely mad when interacting with the character.
Pagan Min: is clean with his brutality when interacting on the phone.
Joseph Seed: interacts with the character every time he goes into a new region and blows shit up.
Castillo: let’s go golfing, let’s go golfing.
lmao basically this
Also the removal of the map editor. The map editor is what made Farcry special and creative and a hell lot of more fun., they kept yapping about the fact they wanted replayability in farcry 6 but the map editor WAS the replayability
I agree. Map editors in general make any game more replayable and I have no idea why it wasn't included in Far Cry 6...
I'm still trying to figure out how it's the most visually stunning & mechanically smooth Far Cry to date but I am unable to remain engaged in the world. *I've played and beat them all, except 6...*
This could be due to multiple reasons. From story and setting to how poor the writing is. Also, when a game is mechanically advanced, but it doesn't utilize that stuff in a proper way and instead makes the player ignore almost everything from the beginning, it becomes hard to stay attracted to the game for a long time sadly...
Same bro, It's hard to keep playing i'm about to give up the game and play something else :(
@angcil88 2 days ago I re-installed for the 8th time(yup) hoping that I could find something to reel me in but 10 minutes into play time yesterday and I paused to swap weapons, then ended up playing Pokémon Go. 😂
Burnout from playing the same game over and over again I played 3 and then jumped into 6 a few months later and man it was a slog because it was just more of the same thing with a prettier coat of paint and a lot more micro transactions
Thank God I'm not the only one who feels far cry 6 didn't feel like far cry. And when i see people saying that they've enjoyed far cry 6, im like damn ....
At first the game acts like everything from the older games is preserved and upgraded to the next level (as it should have been in the first place) but everything takes a quick turn, and the game tells the player that all the things you enjoyed from the older games are "almost" gone and now you have to deal with some misplaced RPG mechanics...
I had only three issues with it: the fact that when you ran out of ammo you couldn’t pick up the last bad guy’s gun and keep shooting, the fact that you in a town, equipped with a grappling hook, couldn’t grappel on to all the hundreds of railings and rooftops that littered the game and that they missed the opportunity to let the player take advantage of the fact that little chorizo brought tools with him.
The fact that the map was large and not completely jampacked seemed reasonable since it was a country this time instead of that small region that was Kyrat which was supposed to be an entire country.
I also think games sometimes need to evolve in more than just graphic and FC6 was not the best game in the series but hopefully they take with them what did work and let go of what didn’t.
These are some interesting things you brought up. I totally agree with you on the gun problem. Like, why can't Dani, a guerilla, pick up weapons from ground? Wasn't Juan screaming the alphabet of being a guerilla fighter from the beginning of the game?
And the grapple hook reminded me of how clunky the "supposed" parkour mechanic of the game is which forces the player to jump and grab ledges from certain angles... Sometimes doing those mini platformer missions where you have to follow the treasure route could become extremely painful... So yeah, they really should have utilized the grapple hook more than just using it in convenient locations.
It's funny how the secret ending is the best canon ending of Far Cry games.
I waited for Pagen Min and was able to get to complete the whole point of the game.
If I remember it correctly, Far Cry 4's director once said that even in his opinion that secret ending is the canon ending since it'd make more sense from every perspective lol.
Far cry 3 and 4 ❤
3 & 4 are arguably the best games in the series, although I liked Far Cry 5 too!
Along with gta5 skyrim resident evil 4 evil within 1, my fav games.
@@TruePhoque Agree. Far Cry 5 has me returning because of the story and the Father. They also nailed the environment and it feels like you're in a small valley in Colorado.
@@bogrunberger Oh yeah, the environment in Far Cry 5 is one of the best in the series. It actually helped the game a lot to feel much different than the previous games while retaining that uniqueness of the franchise!
I acually liked "Far Cry 6"....it was a new change from the normal "Playing Against Two Warlords"narrative that catapult the series to stardom....It was the first game based on latin Caribbean guerilla warfare since rhe "Just Cause" games....the story fell kind of short but what makes up fpr the story was the blowing up Shyt & taking over military bases by liberating checkpoints, taking out Anti Aircraft weapons, & every so often explore the island of Yara hidden history side quest....i was truly let down i couldnt kill "Castillo" at the end ....it would of felt sweet to finally take him out for "Litta" that led to her death.....Also, i didn't care for the animal side kicks cuz i spent more my time to recessing them from near death than me going solo & go for my run & gun taking out enemies myself swiftly..... Ultimately this was a cook game...I love cruising around Yara listening to spanish music even thought i have no clue what the songs about...i loved the "Informant" latin remake song though....But its safe to say "Far Cry 3" is the pharoah of the series......
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Glad that you enjoyed playing the game! The biggest downside of the gameplay is that it actively tries to make every mechanic seem pointless... I mean, the developers have spent some time creating them; to be fair, they are fairly decent too. So why do other mechanics make them feel pointless? While we can say: "Just ignore using some of them and try making the game harder or better for yourself", it won't fix the problem with the game's core mechanics! Also, I totally agree with the story points you mentioned.
I decided to come back to this because i have another gripe with this game. Yes, the alternate ending is the better ending, but I'm gonna get more political about it. The mental gymnastics to justify why America is no better than Yara pissed me off as an American. There's people that are willing to risk their lives to get here, and those lucky ones that do make it are the most hardworking goodhearted patriotic people you will find. Saying that America is no better than some fictional fascist shithole country is a slap in the face to all our immigrants, especially all those who fled the Castro regime in Cuba (especially the ones who have died along the journey), Venezuelans and all the other Latinos, the Haitians, Africans, Iranians, Ukrainians, the Afghan interpreters that are still trying to get here but are trapped by the Taliban. Stocking grocery store shelves in a free country is so much better than living in a shithole dictatorship.
A better way to make the decision to stay harder would've been an appeal to Dani's ego. Clara could've told Dani "sure, you could puss out and run to America, but you'll be a nobody there. If you stay and fight, you'll become part of Yaran history and be remembered forever." Putting it that way, its harder to say no to. Or they could've kept the lore of the previous two games going and America isn't an option to flee to given the whole nuke thing.
Interesting world view. Although, to be fair Clara did say something like "Nobody wants our Yaran blood in their country. Stay and fight for your home Dani". If I remember it correctly. But yeah, in Far Cry 6 everything is either extremely poorly written or super light-hearted as if it's a small matter...
Bembe, el doctor, and Mckay were probably the best enemies. The naval woman was pretty ruthless, seeing the bodies on buoys was pretty cool, but they all needed more time.
Poor Bembe was butchered due to bad writing and almost no screen time...
Tbh its not THAT bad at all, it was fairly a decent far cry game, I enjoyed it a lot on my xbox SX, sure it has its flaws and might not be as good as the previous far cry games, but it’s still a decent game nonetheless, i’d give it a 7/10
I'm glad you enjoyed the game, let's hope the next game makes most of us happy!
@@TruePhoque well based on the leaks, I guarantee it’s gonna be a disappointment 💀
They had a great antagonist and wasted the potential, and because that I liked far cry 5 FAR more
Yeah, whenever I think about Anton, all I see is Giancarlo's wasted potential...
For me Far Cry 4 was the best
Haven't played 1
2 was too brutal to be Fun
3 had the right idea and the best villain so far
4 has the best gameplay esp the verticality with a pretty menacing villain
5 was too chaotic for me.. Zero breathing room
Haven't played New Dawn
6 had terrible characters and I esp hated the corporate idea of rebellion Gameplay was meh couldn't care about the story either
I like your ranking, it's pretty close to mine, except I liked 5 (despite its many different problems), played and didn't like New Dawn.
I think I’m one of the few that actually loved FC2. That game got me through a really bad breakup in 2018. The African setting and just the hardcore, gritty feel to it I found really appealing. It also has a more philosophical tone to it with the Jackal.
Amazing video bro , as a fan of the FC Series I always felt like FC6 was bad/not an FC game but didn't have enough reasons to say that , this is the perfect video ! Keep up the good work you just gained a loyal subscriber 😂❤️
Wow, thanks a lot my friend, your words are kind and really means a lot to me! I'm really glad that you enjoyed the video, welcome to the channel dude!
I, a fan of the series and buyer of ALL prior FarCry Games since 1, til FarCry 5 and all its SideGames in the series, was a sucker for these. But the RPG Elements, omg how do i explainz it simply....
A bullet in the head should kill my target... not the small or heavy armor on certain weapontypes, at moonlight, when wear XY Armor from the shop....
The gameplay of the game suffered from creative directions...
and im not nearly blind enough, to see Ubisoft trying to use Big Names in the movie villain theme in newest games, to downplay the gameissues...
Edit, after i watched more of the video:
FarCry 6 is the worse version of JustCause Game Series ...
Edit, after full Watch:
JustCause sequel said by u, made me smile :D
Hey thanks for watching the video! I totally agree with you and just like yourself, I played and enjoyed every single entry in the series (I thought Primal was one of the best games in the series, although it sits in a different league compared to the mainline games). The (not so) recent trend of making everything RPG hurt this game in an unimaginable way. I like the idea of having multiple ammo types, but they should have implemented the mechanic better... I'd actually use them against trucks, tanks, and choppers and not soldiers if it was a more thoughtful mechanic! This game has so much lost potential that it's just baffling to think about it...
i enjoyed the voiced protagonist, huge weapon selection and gunplay but the clothing system, ammo system....felt useless. most of the characters were annoying too and i prefer the perk tree. map was nice but too big..felt really empty at times
Totally agree with you, except for the gunplay which didn't sit right with me due to bullet-sponge enemies.
I actually liked female Dani, the voice actress did a fantastic job with that role.
Dude the channel is so dope and the videos are excellent keep killing it

Thank you very much! I'm really glad that you enjoyed the video and welcome to the channel my friend!
Great video, subbed and looking forward to future reviews
Thank you, my friend! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and welcome to the channel!
By biggest gripe with the game was how lackluster and bland it was. When I heard it was set in fictional Cuba I was really excited. There’s not many rpg’s there that are set in the Caribbeans, let alone Cuba so I was super intrigued and interested in where the story could go and the content that would be added. Not to my surprise. I was let down. I won’t get into the story because there’s already dozens of videos rightfully criticizing the game but I would like to point out the mishandling of potential and straight up shitty add ons and “expansions” for the game. I would have loved to see dlc that focused around the traditions and hobbies of the Cuban people. Farming (feeding cattle, planting crops, cleaning a barn), more additions to fishing, total customization on the cars (build one from the ground up) boxing, having boxing rings set up around the map and facing other fighters on your way to becoming a champion (similar to Cyberpunks fighting quests), the potential was right there… They completely missed on the expansions too. Instead of the two we got we should’ve gotten a Soviet style add on where Anton is allowing them to set up nuclear sights all around the map and you have to sabotage and uncover a sinister motive for his plans. Another could’ve been a “what if” scenario where Dani joins the FND and you have to take part in raids and shootouts with the rebels and destroy there operations and networks from the ground up.
You have perfectly summed up the reasons that could end up making the game world much more alive and dynamic than the current shallow and soulless thing it is. The second major expansion was also a horrible mess that I try to completely forget about... I like the stuff you mentioned, especially the one with the what if scenario...
I uninstalled far cry6 after only a few hours. It felt unpolished like they rushed it and Ubisoft hasn’t even bothered to patch it up
I agree with you on not patching the game with QoL updates. I think they didn't bother updating the FSR version or even adding up DLSS to the game on PC...
Best take I’ve seen on far cry 6 in a while. I was always confused why I didn’t like it so thank you for ending that confusion for me!
Thank you for watching and for the kind comment. I'm really glad that you found the video helpful!
agreed. they should've just cut the maximas matanzas region entirely and used those resources on fleshing out esperanza and the other two regions more. good video!
Yeah, I think that region was just added to make the game longer. At the end it did make the game longer but at the cost of ruining the story furthermore and making the map unnecessarily huge. Thanks for watching the video!
Honestly i bought this game approx. a year ago cuz it was on sale for like $8 and i didnt watch any reviews or anything, played it for like 3 missions and honestly got so bored and uninstalled the game
I know some people will think its an unfair judgement but being used to far cry 3 and 4 which imo was the prime era and what far cry is really about, this felt like a very generic shooter game with an annoyingly large map (especially at the beginning of the game)
And for some reason stealth was pretty difficult, maybe this is a skill issue on my part, however the entire bullet sponge concept was so noticeable and put me off the game so much
I know its impossible, but i wish they bring back that far cry 3-4 style, but obviously corporate greed and modern business practice in game dev industry wont allow for this, its sad because you can say this about any AAA+ studio game in the world, or any game owned by a big investment group even if it were a small studio originally
I totally understand your feelings about this game, and I couldn't sum it up better than you did. I too think that the best era was 3 and 4 and even 5 had some very interesting things in it. But Ubisoft decided to stray further away from what made their games unique and stepped into the realm of generic titles. I wish the next Far Cry fixes these issues and give us a real taste of Far Cry...
I don’t know where you got the bullet sponge thing from. armor piercing rounds one shots everyone in the head in the game. Even on the harder difficulty.
Good video mate, well done
Thanks a lot, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Lack of real progression system is the only problem I have with this game.
A simple skill point system would have made this game so much better instead of constantly changing gear depending on situation.
This. They needed to add a proper skill tree mechanic instead of the horrible outfit system.
That tattoo system in FC3 was so damn iconic.
I don't know why they don't use it anymore.
@@yuvrajchakravarti8038 Either that or something similar to it would show our character progression in a much more immersive way imo.
Tbh I think my favorite thing about the far cry 3, 4 and 5 far as gameplay was that you had to choose carefully what weapons and items you use for whatever style one decides to play but seems like that "difficult" part is out since you can basically change on the fly along with the items that make it well not so fun or interesting
I agree. Far Cry 6 tried to make things more accessible, but it seems like Ubisoft doesn't know the difference between accessibility and making things unnecessary easy...
Great video, honestly.Hopefully your channel will rise to its deserved following ^^
Thank you! This really means a lot to me. Also, thank you for watching the video.
all of your complaints about the hunting system in far cry 6 are complaints you should have made about far cry 5 because it's exactly the same in that game too
nobody did and we got far cry 6 as a result of it
While I would generally agree with you about watering down the entire hunting system in Far Cry 5, at least they introduced the fishing mechanic and hunting animals would give the player perk points at a faster rate. But I think the next Far Cry should go back to the 3 and 4's hunting system.
Good video. Hope your channel grows. I'm only a couple of hours in, and I find myself saying WTF more than enjoying the game. I'm a sniper girl, so imagine my dismay when I headshot an enemy and he doesn't go down do to the stupid ammo weakness bs they put in the game. Also, there is no incentive to go in stealth because the enemy AI is so dumbed down that you can just go in like Rambo and kill everyone with no sense of danger. Then there are times when an enemy is alone, you headshot him but then you get spawnless enemies showing up that spawn out of thin air. WTF!!! and if that's not enough, Ubisoft throws a fucking animal attack in every 100 meters.
Thank you, it really means a lot! The gunplay could really be improved a lot if the enemies weren't bullet spongey... You never feel the need for in-game companions, you're never feeling the pressure from enemies (not even in guerilla mode) and the horrible enemy AI doesn't help achieve a more enjoyable experience either...
Awesome vid!
Thanks for watching it!
Started playing FC from FC5 and I enjoyed both games so much. I feel Anton’s screen time was enough. Great story and great effort from the devs
I'm glad that you liked the game! If you have the time, try Far Cry 3, 4, and primal in the future. They're unique and fun to play too.
It felt more like far cry than far cry 5. I've never heard anyone say it didn't feel like far cry. Just you. The game was more far cry than we've had in a Long Time.
Nah, that's simply not true as I explained thoroughly why the game failed to capture the feeling of its predecessors. BTW if you want to see why people didn't like the game, take a quick stroll through the comments.
@@TruePhoque that’s subjective, and a good chunk of the comments disagree with you.
6 still felt like Far Cry to me but it had a silliness and almost childishness to it that turned me off. It tried appealing to Gen Z a bit too much with the Boomer-younger generations feuding, romanticism of fascism, and shitty music from MM. some moments were just eye-rollingly dumb when they had the potential to be serious.
“More far cry than we’ve had in a long time” because far cry is an rpg series known for its lighthearted saints row style story.
No, not ubisoft being ubisoft
lol.
The reason is not far cry specific, it's ubisoft. NON of their franchises feel like they used to becuase ubisoft arent concerned with that. They are concerned with political agendas and rinsing children.
That doesn't explain any of the gameplay issues tho.
@@TruePhoque Oh, it does. The game mechanics are bland, generic and lack innovation because of the things ive touched on. There's no point delving deeper into why shit smells like shit when you can already see that it's shit...
Maybe "racism and sexism is bad" isn't such a bad agenda
@@channel45853 You should know that already and if you don't, it being in a game isn't going to be the thing that makes think differently you fool. that stems from your upbringing and environment. Plus, it's not just sexism and racism is it, that's a very simplified and idiotic surface generalization of the agenda. It's race baiting, it's companies who are aiming to remove any "cis" white male from any lead role apart from the negative one which at its core IS the racism and sexism they virtue signal to be against. its an oxymoronic and hypocritical agenda but overall I don't want ANY political view point shoved down my throat every fucking chance they can just out of sheer self respect that i am a decent enough human to know right from wrong and i don't need a entitled twat in some luxurious office to tell me otherwise. Especially when in actual fact it is them that has the race and victim chip on their shoulder.
One of the big things I don’t like about far cry six is that no matter how much progress you do there’s always tons of soldiers on the roads being annoying
Yep. You liberate every region, but the soldiers are always there in the road fighting guerillas one by one. it's totally an immersion breaker for me.
I won't go through what's been said in the comment, but far cry is all about the environment 1st. And what was immerging was the presence of animals in Far Cry 3 and 4... we were constantly in danger between the main story and the credibility of the open world
Well said. Replacing all of that with an almost tamed nature, urban environment, and a proper country was their biggest mistake.
The only complain I have with the game is that it feels like a reskin of destiny 2. With its cosmetics that have certain powerups and having to look for resources when buying attachments and mods.
I actually was surprised by the map size, I thought I was only the little Island but then It went over to the whole map. And I became extremely excited because there's so much to explore.
I'm not against huge world maps by any means, all I'm against is giant maps with zero depth. I wish Far Cry 6's world was as fun to explore as Far Cry 5 (I loved the bunker discoveries in FC5) but it sadly is not even close to that game.
@@TruePhoque I understand! and I agree :)
Honestly one of the only few issues I have with 6 is the backpack and mainly the backpack… with rockets. It just gave me the vibe of “this game will suck” and I don’t know why, not even a “this is too different” thing, it just felt off to me.
Also here at 15:13 I don’t understand how they messed this up because they have stuff like The Division 2’s assaults where enemies could attack your control points and Outpost Master for Far Cry 5 where you can choose to reset the outposts. Don’t know why they made it a weekly thing for Far Cry 6.
The backpack thing really made it closer to Just Cause series for some reason. Also yeah, the replacement of outpost master with insurgency was a horrible choice...
Far cry 5 is better. Better story, characters are likable and the damn loading screen with villains with their quotes and the music omg. My first far cry I finished and had fun with it. Ubisoft should focus more like those type of games with good story telling about cults etc.
Glad you enjoyed Far Cry 5 a lot! Give primal, 4 and 3 a shot as well if you haven't till now!
@@TruePhoque I will give it a shot. Best good luck with your channel.
@@JamFlava1 Thank you for your kind words.
i liked the video, well done. however i don't agree with a lot of the critcisms. for example:
'previous far cry games had super fun missions where the main character is high, but far cry 6 doesn't have as much of that' - i don't think far cry should cling on to that just because it worked in previous games. same goes for crafting and skilltrees - i agree the substitutions didn't work, but replacing them is not a bad idea.
also i didn't think the anti aircraft gun locations got tiresome at all
just to be clear, i didn't enjoy far cry 6
i could write a book on the flaws of that game
Thanks for watching the video, tell me what you think about the game's shortcomings, I'm curious to know your opinion!
@@TruePhoque hey thanks for asking!
i almost feel like ubisoft has intentionally abandoned the writing of good games. in 2012/2013 they would make AC IV black flag and far cry 3, which along with being very well made were also well written. recently i've been playing the newer AC games and i've noticed something i noticed with far cry -- in the last 10 years or so, the games have had a clear and steady decline in writing quality. it must be a consious decision by ubisoft, because far cry new dawn and 6 just feel like i'm watching someones first attempt at writing a narrative.
imagine far cry 3 without a story campaign. you just spawn on an island with outposts and wild animals, but no incentive to do anything -- no reason or reward for anything at all. far cry 6's story is so weak, it feels esentially the same. the libertad, anton castillo, that rap group, the rich american, the media lady -- they mean nothing, they offer no reward, no incentive, no depth to the game.
your breakdown of anton castillo and some other elements of the story (too many characters, empty characters, conflicting tone, etc) show me that you've noticed these things yourself. i really think that in terms of the game mechanics, ubisoft isn't necessarily moving in the wrong direction, they're trying out new things, trying to find out what works and what doesn't. if there were genuine characters or a story/atmosphere that worked, this current phase would at least have some sort of spark life to it. (just look at RDR2. it isn't one of the most successful games ever because of how fun the dead-eye system is, people love arthur morgan and the gang.)
although sometimes i think it isn't necessarily the writers fault, but ubisofts in general. far cry 5 clearly had talented writers, but the story still didn't work imo. it could be that ubisoft is taking liberties with creative decisions that are ruining that games. (it's certainly the case with some things. 'we need a big crazy villain because vaas' etc)
...anyway sorry for the long rant
@@siim_mar000 I appreciate you writing down your opinion as I enjoyed reading through it. I completely agree with you, and I think you nailed it down perfectly. They are trying new things and, in this path, sometimes it seems like they forget to take care of the bigger picture and lose the integrity of the whole project. I agree about the recent AC games as well. They have and overall cool concept and element but when it comes to character writing, it feels like a joke or a parody of what a proper character should be... at least for the most part of those games.
This is a treat! I was searching for FC 6 reviews and there aren’t any new ones. Thanks for this. The game is trash.
Hey there, Thanks for watching! Glad that the video was helpful. Yeah, I don't recommend this game at all. If you haven't played the previous games, check 3-4-5 as they are much better and more fun!
I have 850 hrs in to it. Play it.
While I agree with all your poitns to an extent and that it doesnt live up to the previous games high marks.. to say it isn't fun I think is just silly. It's a video game, just because its not the best of the series does not mean it isnt good. I encourage others give it a try because there is still fun to be had here. I put this game off for so long because of people's reviews and I wish i hadn't. Its not as great as 5 and its not as great as 3, (I thought far cry 4 was boring, but i wont yuck peoples yum for it) but it is a very fun game in its own right.
Well, there's a specific reason for not recommending a game. While story concepts, storytelling, and characters are actually important, they wouldn't determine (at least for me) that whether a game is fun or not... after all it's the gameplay that makes the entire thing stay fun. Instead, if a game tries to tell you that: "Hey look, I know I have 50 different mechanics, it's best for you to avoid all of them and only use 2". That's when a game becomes hard to recommend. If FC6 didn't try to sabotage itself this hard, I'd have enjoyed it much more actually even with its map size and current state of story.
The map of Yara made me think of Just Cause. If Ubisoft made it 3rd person and add a lot of explosive things in military locations then it's pretty much a Just Cause game thanks to those wonderweapons, map and overal vibe.
You said the same thing in the end. I already made the comment before the video was all the way to the end. Happy we agree on this 🤝🏻
Yep, the game feels nothing like the series it's supposed to represent and feels much like a just cause game without Rico as the main protagonist...
@@TruePhoque exactly, to me this game just feel awkward and it's a far cry from a Far Cry series game. I'm not even going to get the platinum trophy for this game which i do have on the others.
Every issue I had with the game and more. Awesome video!
Glad to hear it! I'm happy you enjoyed the video.
The statues and speakers are a just cause thing, are they not?
Not necessarily. The guerilla with too much chaotic weapons that are designed for mindless fun, the indifference to fine tuning traversal mechanics that doesn't end up making one of them superior, the bland and cartoony characters are some of the examples that turn this game into a just cause thing tho. at the end, speakers and statues are both symbols, nothing more.
@@TruePhoque Yes thats so true. I think its ironic tho how they transformed the game to a just cause title with far cry graphics, make him an dictator u never see but blow up in his statue or speaker form, wich is SUCH AN JUST CAUSE THING like wtf. Did they forget what far cry is?
@@niklast.ochmann8316 Exactly! I agree with you. Far Cry was always about the horrors the main villain would cause for people and in this game, the focus is completely somewhere else!
I would forgive many of the game's useless mechanics if the story and world building was done better but sadly, everything crumbles on itself in the first few hours and then continues to stay that way...
Thats so frcking sad. Like even Fc5 had some backlash and they decide to do just… …less? At least its something that happens thoughout gaming everywhere so we have to hope that publishers will finally have to change course. Until then keep up the great work man! An excellent watch
@@niklast.ochmann8316 My biggest fear for Far Cry 7 is the live service aspect of the game.
Are they going to release a half-finished product and keep adding the core content with small updates or are they going to charge us to the moon for the full game experience?
I guess only time will tell and we don't have to wait too long for its reveal since I strongly believe that FC7's reveal might happen in the upcoming Ubisoft Forward Event!
It was my favorite of all of them. I still play it.
Feels like ubisoft don’t make good games any more. Assassin’s creed, watch dogs, far cry all games just can’t connect to the players. Bad stories, ranking guns, life less villains, no surprises.
And not just ubisoft, call of duty is also walking the same path, hell its even ahead than ubisoft in terms of making bad games. Just wanted to loot people’s money by selling them 70$ dlc.
They really need to put their soul and passion into making games... but sadly with the recent layoffs and the shady practices the companies pull off, it seems like expecting a great gaming experience from gaming companies is becoming a rare thing...
Another Awesome video as always.
You convinced me to skip this game.
Thanks for watching and I'm glad that the video was helpful!
I just platinumed far cry 6, it’s quite a nice game. Different than other far cry games. But I still quite recommend it.
@@esleyjanssen8561 Glad you enjoyed the game and congrats on that platinum! One thing that really bothered me and ruined the entire mood of the game was the bad story writing. If the story was better and characters weren't so comically portrayed, the game could've been more enjoyable for me, and I could easily ignore its shortcomings.
@@TruePhoque yeah the story wasn’t really “great” especially the allies you make. I really like the part of seeing the good in Anton’s son. But the other characters are just not really interesting except el Tigre
@@esleyjanssen8561 Totally agree with you. El Tigre and maybe Espada was the only two good characters of this game. Also, not seeing the guerillas doing anything bad and they're always the saints was really hilarious. It's like Ubi forgot that they themselves made Far Cry 4 and the rebels in that game were not that different from Pagan min.
I find it hilarious, everyone be like damn these farcry games are all the same, then they be like, wtf is this? This farcry is just too diferent.
Hardly anything changes from game to game. And when they do change something, they miss the mark.
They can change things and keep the identity and core of the game intact. Have you ever seen the GTA series abandon its core mechanics in favor of bland mechanics that contradict one another constantly?
Tbf, yeah. In general people don't know what they want, they might ask for something and get it but it wasn't like what they expected
@@TruePhoque you mean that gta that was a top down game that became gta3? That game that had no storie or characters become gta3? Yeah, ehat of it?
@@alexworm1707 No, I'm talking about every GTA before the HD Era and post HD era which basically translates to every game past GTA 3.
Played the whole game and for me it was "fine". But the one thing i feel i really remember about the game and won't forget so fast is Dani singing to the Radio 30 sekends after the Cut secene where castillo presses his burning cigar on Her toung.
Its a smal thing i know... and i understand thet i a way it would be a wasted of time to make sure there would be no singing for idk 1 h after this part...
I totally understand. It's those small things that completely break the immersion and ruin the experience to some extent...
imo Giancarlo nailed it playing Anton but his presence throughout the game was so small it was disappointing
Totally agree with you.
Great review! I completely agree with your points about Far Cry 6. The lack of a memorable villain and the disjointed world really made it hard to stay engaged. Giancarlo Esposito's performance was fantastic, but it felt wasted. The RPG mechanics felt out of place and took away from the core Far Cry experience. One thing I also noticed was the repetitive mission structure; it felt like there was little variety in objectives, which made the game feel like a grind at times. I also missed the immersive, darker atmosphere of the earlier games. Here's hoping Ubisoft takes the feedback and brings the series back to its roots in the next installment. Keep up the awesome content!
Thanks for the kind comment! Of course, the wasted potential of both the setting and the character feels very bad but I'm still hopeful for the next entry as there's a lot of things that need massive improvements!
I love far cry 6. It's one of my favourite from the series. Of course it's way off from the usual far cry formula. It doesn't have a deep story or interesting side activities. But, it's a dumb fun ride and I loved. Love the Caribbean setting, the music and Dani of course.
I'm really happy to see that you're enjoying it so much! Which version of Dani do you prefer to play with, male or female?
@@TruePhoque I prefer female Dani. Female voice actor did a fantastic job. Male voice felt a bit generic and flat.
@@hryshihoshshibu8984 I personally liked her version of Dani more for the same reason!
I actually liked both male and female Dani as a protagonist, but apart from them I ONLY liked El Tigre, Jonron, and Espada. Every other character I could not fucking stand, especially Talia. The biggest gripe I had was the “Castillo must die” theme throughout the whole game only for Clara to suddenly go “this was never about killing Castillo, it’s about coexisting.” It’s like are you fucking kidding me?!?! This man will execute you instantly lmao. Such terrible writing.
I agree and those are exactly my favorite characters as well. Yeah the writing in this game is just all over the place...
I had so much playing Far Cry 1 back in the day,, It felt so different than the usual WW2 game developers were making back then. Far Cry 3 was pretty fun too but I never finished the game, from what I read it's sad that Vaas isn't the main villain of that game.
Sure, Vaas isn't the main antagonist of Far Cry 3, but the game still treated him in a way that it'd put him under the spotlight of being the main enemy.
It's true Far Cry 6 villains/ antagonists were average however compared to Far cry 5 and new dawn the gameplay wasn't bad at all. In Far Cry 5 and new dawn the protagonist never spoke a single word out of their mouth which was weird as f**k
Far Cry 5's story had another issue as well. While each of its villains were really well written, the supporting cast were the most forgettable bunch and there was zero incentive to care for them sadly...
People needs to understand the realistic idea far cry 6 wants to reach . The villain isn't some of military members or an insane bandit .. in far cry 6 it's someone to be called a president or the king of Yara political character that cannot follow you or even care about your behaviour.. but you still need to reach their neck . Antón Castillo as a dictator represents a systemic threat rather than a singular charismatic foe. The idea is to experience the struggle against an oppressive regime not a deranged individual.
Whether this approach resonates with players depends on their preference. Some might miss the up-close-and-personal encounters with a central antagonist, but others might appreciate the more grounded portrayal of a dictator and the fight against a system.
That's the resistance idea far cry 6 wants you to experience. By what reason.. idk
I totally understand, and if we hadn't got Far Cry 4 in the past and had never experienced Pagan Min's story, I wouldn't have made the comparison or asked why Anton never shows up anywhere. But your reasoning is completely correct and I agree with the statement.
Ive had 6 since launch, don't really care for the story and Anton is wasted potential but maaan when you give in to the absurdity of the gameplay and just how badass you feel taking down "Soldados" its a great time.
I'm glad you had tons of fun with the gameplay!
Great video! I do agree that Far Cry 6 is really different compared to Far Cry 3 or even 2
Plus, we already have Jagged Alliance 2 and 3 to scratch the itch for mercenaries (a theme abandoned after FC3) and liberating countries
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I personally have never played JA series, so I might check it out one day. Thanks for the suggestion!
It felt exactly like Far Cry which was the biggest problem, felt like i had already played it multiple times before i even got 5 hours in. Theres bo innovation and nothing to shake up the formular.. they perfected ut with 3 and it was nice to have a similar game with 4 but 5 and 6 enough is enough
I wish this was the case, but sadly, so many factors don't allow this game to shine like its predecessors.
Where are you from? I think I recognise that accent
Antarctica, where most phoques are from.
@@TruePhoque 😂 you lie
I think the villains should have more run time and interactions with your character. All of the characters feel like side characters because there are so damn many of them, barely any of them serious characters, just constant dumb humour. A good thing about 6 though was the guns, they looked like they had weight and punch to them. The story and characters could have been better, more depth was needed from them in my opinion.
Just finished watching, you hit the nail on the head lol
Thanks for watching the video! Yeah, the villains were extremely underutilized and they remain this way till the very end. They aren't memorable, don't do anything special, and are portrayed in the most cartoonish way possible which damages the game's feel and atmosphere imo.
I haven't finished 5 or 6 and what I've played of 5 seems alright so far but it doesn't "feel like far cry" to me either. I don't know what it is it just doesn't feel like 3 or 4 at all, partially the lack of a mini-map I think.
You know, one of the factors that some people seem to be annoyed by, but I truly miss is the lack of a tower climbing system. With them gone, the recent games are trying to do open handed exploration... but such a thing requires tons of points of interest relatively close together, which is not something that suits a Far Cry game world IMO.
I lowkey enjoyed the gameplay, the missions were kinda fun but my GOD the story was so bad. I rlly liked the movement and stealth but gameplay alone can’t save a game like far cry
Glad you liked the game. But as you have said it so perfectly yourself, those good parts are not enough to justify the game's lacking parts.
@@TruePhoque I 100% agree
Far Cry 4 is still my favourite of the franchise.
Indeed, Far Cry 4 is arguably one of the best in the series. It took the best things from Far Cry 3 and improved them to (almost) perfection! I love that game too.
@@TruePhoque I would say FC4 has the best map too.
@@leecroft7311 That's the reason I enjoyed Far Cry Primal as well since it retained the map structure while changing the overall looks!
Great video and yes, fans knew 6 was going to be off. A subtle hint was in 5 with the silver bars I think they were. It was the only way to permanently unlock weapons and you didn't get many, hence, they wanted you to buy them.
New Dawn was horrible with the rpg elements. A bullet is a bullet, having bullet sponge enemies just killed the game. So 6 was definitely going to be on that horrible trend. Too bad. I loved Far Cry.
I agree. I love Far Cry and I'm still looking forward to the next game, but those shady practices to justify the existence of 10 billionth different weird skin-sets ruin everything... Thanks for watching the video, I'm glad you enjoyed watching it!
FC6 paired with New Dawn are the only FC games i never really replayed and i forgot nearly everything about the game. i can play the games before new dawn over and over again but fc6 is just so forgetable
I totally agree. The older games, including Primal and Blood Dragon, were way more fun and featured meaningful mechanics!
Chopo the crocodile only character I liked in the game that tells you something…..
For me it was Chorizo because I found him super adorable lol
Just a repeat with a different setting, and the tropic things been done to death with them as a series, 5s the best cause you literally feel the story is somewhat believable yet exaggerated till the end. Perfect setting for it too. They just release unfinished dlc and. To reinvent the series, theyd need alot more content within the game, 6 isn't like that.
Well said.
Ubisoft is "dead man walking".
I personally wouldn't go that far to call them dead. They just need more time to work on their games and a better direction in some of their games.

During the first few minutes of the game, Far Cry 6 tries to tell you that it's the same thing too, except in reality, it's nothing like that and feels unnecessarily huge, bland, and flat... in a very boring way that makes this game feel like another video game, lol.
I bought the physical gold edition at launch for the ps5 I didn’t even finish it unlike 5 that I’ve finished at least 8 times
6 got to boring but it had its moments sadly the ps5 stoped working so I built a pc so maybe I’ll pick it up on sale and give it another go

As this is my first farcry i played, i felt so much fun playing this game. The story is bland really, but the gameplay is fantastic that personally it beats all the weakness of this game. Maybe it's because i am also a player who favour gameplay more than the story
Glad you enjoyed the game! If you have the time, try older entries in the series as well.
Far Cry 6 seems too loaded to me, I'd prefer a game with a good story and simple gameplay (non RPG)
Far cry is getting formulaic, so a few changes don't hurt anybody. Let's hope the next one will be better
I agree with you. Changes are necessary but developers shouldn't change the core identity of any game with those changes.
And on top of that... Vaas wasnt even the main villain in fc3
It was Hoyt
While you're totally right, Far Cry 3 focused so much on Vaas that it simply made him seem more important compared to Hoyt or actually any other antagonists in that game.
I wonder can you win the game in Far cry 6 same as you can in all other Far cry games as you wait for long at the start for long.... (I personally still find Joseph Seed BEST Villain in whole Far Cry game history....)
I mean in Far Cry 4 if you waited for long at the meal Pagan comes back and takes you to place your parents ashes... I can not remember in Far Cry 5 but I am sure there is also fast end there too..
Oh, you absolutely can get the secret ending in both Far Cry 5 and 6. Although, in Far Cry 6 they changed it, so you don't have to wait that much, so instead you get to drive a boat and sail it into the horizon at a specific moment in the story.
The game did feel like a crappy version of just cause, and im happy i sepnt time and let my little cousins screw around in the game unlocking areas so when i decided to do the story i could just fast travel everywhere.
