Understanding Tides To Catch MORE Fish: Beginner's Guide to Saltwater Fishing

  • In this video, I sat down at ‪@tailwateroutfitters‬ and talked about understanding tides and how I use that information to plan my fishing trips. Knowing the tides and how it affects specific species of fish before going fishing is crucial in making sure you catch more fish. I discussed where I find my tide charts, how to read them, my thought process on when and where to go fishing, and how the tide affects specific species like snook, redfish, and speckled trout.

    For inshore fishing tides prob matter just as much if not more than the bait you are using😎

    oh yah potholes are great😅 haha well, and dangerous potentially too. Well for wading anyway. In Galveston area where I go and wade a lot, always trying to wade the flats and watch out for weird and random potholes where it goes from 3ft to 7ft water quick! But yah stand in the edge or walk around them and there might be fish down in them!

    Tides in Florida will get you stranded too. Karma got me for all of those times I chuckled at boats stuck on the sandbar in St Pete. I went kayak fishing in Cedar Key blindly since I had no service and got the kayak stuck in mud. The elevation slope is about a foot drop per mile there so the wifey and I had a good hike carrying the yak back to water. It was either that or wait until dark when the tide came back.

    great vid. I sorta knew some of this stuff but always trying to understand better and more since I am only the sort of occasional sport angler. haha but I am curious is there a specific term for low tide or high tide when the it’s the peak or low low and the water does not seem to be moving? Is the term, “slack tide”? Or, is there a term for when the tide is about to turn but the water seemingly, is stagnant but maybe not really for about 30 minutes while it turns? Have been wondering about that.

    Great explanation, I’m a northern guy that just moved to punta gorda, I’ve found up north that a lot of people didn’t know the difference between tides and current, if most fisherman would learn the ins and outs of tides they will be a more successful fisherman

    I know this is off topic, but what are good live bait imitations? Because I’ve gone fishing with crabs and shrimp before but sometimes I won’t always have those on hand when fishing. So what are good imitations that will still get me fish? Being a beginner is hard sometimes 😅

    • @KumaBean
      @KumaBean 3 місяці тому

      You can get imitation crab and shrimp, and also peeler crab scent to spray on them to help draw the fish in.

    Are greenbacks and pinfish around our area in the flats every season or do they leave in the winter?

    • @SeeYaDude
      @SeeYaDude  3 роки тому +3

      Pinfish are on the flats year round, but greenbacks are seasonal with them really showing up on the flats late spring and then they head offshore in the fall

    How about a follow up review on your SeaHunt bx22br-
    What works, what doesn't, what u would change, is the 200 hp enough, use flats, inshore, offshore.

    Hey Brent, curious if you have any insight on fishing areas with lots of mullet... not just finger mullet but 12”+ mullet. I’m from Wisconsin and come fish upper Tampa bay area a few times a year and trying to get a hang of it, but struggle in areas with ample mullet. Love the videos, they’ve been EXTREMELY helpful thus far!

    • @SeeYaDude
      @SeeYaDude  3 роки тому +1

      Speckled trout, snook, and especially redfish will hang around those schools of big mullet waiting for them to stir up some shrimp or other crustaceans. When only big mullet are present, may not be a bad idea to try using some live shrimp or shrimp lures

    I live on a canal on Davis island should I fish during low tide then ?

    • @SeeYaDude
      @SeeYaDude  3 роки тому

      As long as your canal holds enough water at low tide and there is structure present like docks or mangroves, then there is likely some fish hanging around there
