I totally get this. The way I have moved beyond this is as follows: 1. Pinpoint what you want your ideal closet to be. Hipster? Vintage? Grunge? Meadowpunk? Dragoncore? Pinterest and other inspirations will help you set a clear goal. 2. Thrift stores. Find several. Shop them when you can. Only get things that fit that aesthetic or you KNOW you will wear (not comfy clothes that's cheating you have enough) 3. Marie Kondo your pre-existing wardrobe. Only keep things you wear regularly and give you joy. Keep things that fit your ideal self. 4. Prosper and enjoy your life to the best you can. Sometimes looking and feeling like the best you that you can be will make your day a million times better. Sometimes it's too much work. Having a "put together" wardrobe can help alleviate some of that, but some days you just want to wear sweatpants and that's okay too. But if you find it's the 4th day in a row wearing your comfy pants, breaking out of that rut is important and mindset changing.

I’m starting to play around with the idea of “trash fae” which stems from a sort of inside joke with coworkers. I am currently working on my foundational piece, which is an egg carton flower crown, and I’ve put a call out for people to save pop can tabs so I can...maybe...make a corset from them? Or maybe learn some valuable life lessons about craft ambitions?
You can make jewelry from colourful glass shards wrapped in wire. And there is a way of crocheting with pop can tabs. It's not that hard, if you can crochet. I've started on a little pouch for a post-apocalyptic costume, which is made from parcel twine with those pop can tabs crocheted in. If you have old cassettes or VHS casettes, you could look into crocheting the magnetic band. ^ ^ Very trashy.
@@johannageisel5390 absolutely! Crocheting unfortunately frustrates me, but I'm very familiar with assembled jewelry and have been gathering some ideas for pop can tab garments connected with jump rings.

He was just so iconic.
Woohoo found some! What a mood, I don't wish I was older but damned if I wouldn't travel through time in a heart beat just to chill with him for a day lol.
April-Adele Whyte I fell in love with him around that age too, and with Labyrinth as well! Its so fascinating how he reached so very many people in all different ways, i think its incredible that you named your son after him. Im sure Bowie would be immensely honoured. I absolutely adore the man, and i totally agree with you, i dont necessarily wish i was older but I would so love to have just hung out with him for a day. I got a soft stretchy pant suit jumper thing last week and my husband thought it was dressy and fancy. Then I asked him to feel it and told him its a way to ware pjs in public! Im all for secret pijamas.
This was me last year. I just rolled out of bed and went to school, no one ever knew
I wear pajamas under super long skirts in the winter lmao. It helps keep warm and nobody notices
I just took a survey for Elizabeth and Clarke that wanted to know if I would be interested in Work Pajamas and yes, I am.
I love the Tauriel teenage rebellion vibes that elfpunk is giving off. 😂
Elfpunk is scoia'tael in nutshell
My one floormate once described my aesthetic as "self conscious boy scout" and I'm not quite sure how to feel about that.
Who does that sound like... oh wait that’s literally me
My brother *Is* a self conscious boy scout so I think I get exactly what you're talking about 🤣
my aesthetic is 2000’s clothing mixed with some 2020 gems
i’d like to call it ‘poorcore’
Fucking same
Honestly same

She can’t do alcohol, because she’s already so funny I don’t think we’d be able to handle funny drunk Rachel.
An online aesthetic generator once gave me “milk priest”. It scares me but I’ve never been able to get it out of my head.
I have seen you have been chosen for the dairy cult.
Very good.
Very good.
Very good.

Holy milk,Batman!
Does anyone remember that rock n roll milk commercial? That's the first thing that came to my mind!

Whiskey grandpa gives me “sentimental man” from wicked and literally all old men characters from fantasy movies or books
Hahaha yusssss
“🎶I am a sentimental man🎶 *cough cough wheeze* pass the whisky!”
I literally choked laughing
I got take it from an old man from waitress vibes
The Characters Welcome UCB UA-cam channel has a parody of this!
My desired aesthetic: time traveling librarian
How I actually dress: "Meh, it fits and it's on sale, I guess I'll get it"
My wardrobe is eccentric and most of it is from goodwill and other thrift stores.
Dixie Cripps Same!! That’d be cuuuute.
My actual style: T-shirt with a swim logo and leggings
All the lewks and outfits like together, look like one big quirky, cute, earthy toned well dressed family. All having their own individually unique styles, but still working really well together. Like each of the outfit's "personalities" really shine through and I'm LIVING for it!
I am a guy. I haven’t gotten my hair cut in 3 months. I call the look “Coronacore.”
I too, like this coronacore
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
👑👑👑👑
LOVE IT! Please post it if you can. I Love Long hair. WOOHOOO> No I'm not a stalker just loved this remark... rolling eyeballs.... just awesome.
If coronacore is not smart top with pyjama bottoms and grown out hair, I don’t know what it is! And don’t forget the 😷 and 🧤!
OMG, 20 minutes of Rachel being an absolute EXTRA QUEEN! 👌 I could watch you do these for like....ever.
SAME. Best Friday night ever.
Heehee thank you bb 🙈❤️❤️
@@brookeg5979 I'm on a Saturday morning and seeing your comment made me scratch my head a little lmaooo
I think we all could. This woman is amazing, fearless, wise, creative and just....Can I go back to being a child so I can try to be more like you and Rachel??
Hehehe HELLO!!😄
my aesthetics are:
"2020 does 90s does 70s"
"scrappy mod"
and
"dumpster toddler"
that last one is a mood
Quarantinecore: ie sweatpants and baggy tshirts. that's my 2020 aesthetic.
Honestly, that sounds badass!!
@@erinw.9256 I'm pretty excited about it! I just hope the excitement lasts as long as it's going to take me to collect all those pop can tabs lol.
this sounds cool ngl
Rachel's guess at IKEAcore: "being hopelessly and entirely lost.. and wanting cinnamon buns"
That's it, that's my aesthetic. I'm home.
& shrekcore gave me way more hobbitcore but i'm so down for it
ikeacore: clothes made up either of sewn-together curtains or sheets or sofa fabric, a tool belt and maybe a hat or a raincoat made from the iconic blue plastic ikea bag
@@casir.7407 You need a shelf in there somewhere. No wait maybe you could have a little storlagene bod as a cluch.
Hobbitcore is essentially Rachel getting ready to run to Target.
Correct 😂
I call my style "Cool Late 90's Babysitter" and generally I think it suits my whole closet.
"Hi my name is Rachel, I hope you like earth tones" was a very 'Jenna Marbles' moment.
I cackled when she did that
We gotta find our girl in the hearts of others 😔💖
My aesthetics are
- “70s glam rock but somehow make it even *more* david bowie”
and
- “old gay hobbit who lives in a cabin and gets up at 6am to check on his plants while his hair is in rollers”
and there is absolutely no in between
I feel like David bowie also rocked the old gay hobbit who lives in a cabin and checks on his plants while his hair is in rollers aesthetic too within his style evolution lol.
@@apriladelewhyte bRo he did it so well!!! have you seen the pictures of him from the photoshoot where my profile pic is from? It's literally that exact aesthetic, he is such a force i love him
@@daviestardust No I can't say that I have seen them, where should I look? I love him too, I named my son Bowie. I fell in love with him when I was about 7 when I first saw the labyrinth, then slowly grew an obsession to the point where I got a huge print of him for my bedroom wall for my 8th birthday, all my friends asked who the heck he was every time they came over and I was of course highly offended that they did not know my most favourite person lol.
He was such a good person, and he was so unique precisely because he was so human and so extraterrestrial at the same time. I find it so cool to talk to other people who have felt his influence and who he has inspired. Im glad you found the pictures! Its crazy to me just how many aesthetics this man fit into one lifetime, not to mention all the ones he created. You sound like an awesome person, im so glad i got to talk to you :):):)
My aesthetic is "background character in a coming-of-age movie." It's not even "basic" just totally forgettable
I honestly love that description lmao
I feel you.
it’s not really my aesthetic but i dress like that because i can’t afford my actual style :(
RELATABLE
That is literally me
This was the first ever Rachel Maksy video i ever saw, fell in love + subscribed instantly, and rewatch this occasionally for fashion inspo throughout the year. Being reminded this was the origin of whiskey grandpa, who got a shoutout in a recent video, made me grin. Long live whiskey grandpa
Ahh! Loved “bakerycore” ... you looked like the love interest in a Hallmark movie running a bakery in a small town and ultimately winning over the handsome big town banker who has come to foreclose on your bakery to put a Starbucks in instead lol!!!
Breaking literally anything that comes your way is the character trait of an actor, speaking as a prop manager
SO DAMN TRUE. (I ran UNCG's prop department in college for a year. I had to remake/ repair props after EVERY SINGLE SHOW)
Whenever I hear "cottagecore" the only imagery I get is a grandma manhandling an enormous tub of cottage cheese in the middle of a random field.
This is so funny to hear when you've already seen many cottagecore tiktoks and now what it's actually like. But let's call your creation cottagegrandmacore. I want that to be my aesthetic now.
thats just my belrussian babushka lmfaoooo
Is there a story to go with this statement, friend?
OH GODDDD
@@carlottabreitweg7925 wait, but isn't cottagecore already something that sometimes involves "grandma-styled" elements?
Also uh this has inspired me to make some new aesthetics myself
*stockcore: the clean, unnatural and surreal vibe that stock images give
*vintage spacecore/medieval futuristic: this makes no sense but,, vintage and/or medieval outfits with space or futuristic things mixed in. We love that
*pastel academia: academia but,,, pastels go brrr- may kinda have a sailor moon vibe idk
Omg I had never thought of the second one, there is something to do there !!
Meadowpunk makes me think of "I am the last person alive in this ghost town, watching as everything around me decays as I live on"
Ooooo totally!
I work at an outdoor/fantasy day camp where everyone dresses what I would describe as meadow punk? Like, earth tones, practical trousers, but also florals and pouches and colorful hair and like at least 3 knives strapped to each person. It's a vibe! .

Rachel: Who’s to say costumes can’t be everyday outfits?
Me and my sisters growing up, who wore either costumes or swimsuits 24/7 no matter what we were doing: *Someone who understands!*
fascinating how different our ideas of "whiskey grandpa" aesthetic are. I thought "Scottish gent. all woolen tweeds"
Indeed!!
I did too :) I imagined a refined gentleman sitting in a leather wingback chair, decked out in tweed, with a whiskey in one hand and a cigar in the other.
Aesthetic I want to have: androgynous night witch in love with the rainbow
My current style: jeans and t-shirt

If you added like thick rainbow jewelry and wore mainly black it could work... I’m thinking up looks already
Oooooh, all black outfits with splashes of rainbow- socks, hand warmers/gloved, hair ties, etc.
I need pirate core to be accepted as a valid form of dress for everyday life

I feel like most of these are "cottagecore but with slight alterations" (although I would totally wear halloweencore every single day if given the opportunity)

And cottagecore is actually mori with slight alterations
It changed cottagecore to cottagegore lmao

Cottagegore is just cottagecore but make it Halloween!!
To be fair all of Rachel's clothes are cottagecore, and she had to work with what she had
