My God !!!!!! He could make that guitar scream and cry. Seen him live over the years many times. He was truly one of a kind. No one has come close to him and I don't think anyone ever will. Wish he were still with us.
Since I happened upon Roy many years ago, I've wondered why he hasn't risen to the top with the rest of the cream of the crop... Ramon's Blues is my favorite... check it out if you haven't yet
U no U get the strangest kinda fellin on Devils night, Hallowen eve, when Roy plays the blues, I still can`t get enough of this jam, long live rock and Roy, Aloha.
i saw Roy in windsor ontario so many years ago i can't remember, it was in the 70's, i sat there for 2 hours with my jaw hangin open. he's at that great gig in the sky now probably jammin with jimi.
Long live the Master Blaster of the TeleCaster, Godspeed Roy, Mahalo!!

I only knew about Mr. Buchanan because when I was 16 i was suscribed to Guitar World Mag and read about his death. I never listened to him. Today I was driving to work, listening to a Johnny Winter CD and the name of Buchanan came to mi mind. I just saw this video and can't believe what that man could do on a guitar. You are my new hero Mr. Buchanan, thank you for this bless you shared with people.
No bests..only favorites. My fave if Jeff Beck...I can hear how much JB "borrowed" for Roy and then took it in another direction. Used to listen to Roy in the 70's and I forgot how incredible he was. What a dunce I am. He was amazing.
I am a huge RB fan, saw him LIVE many times back east. Never got to see Jimi H. ,but grew up with his Electric Lady land Lp and all of his music back in the day. They both have there own styles that complement each othe,r so let the listener make there own call. ps ---GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!
I saw this same video back in the 90's I think it was on the USA Network on a show called Night Flight. It was my first introduction to Roy, and since then, I have acquired every single recording I could find, including some boots of audio and video, which I am going to put up soon. A true master of the guitar, the best ever.
I saw Roy play while I was doing LSD at the Old Orpheum theater in Boston......He was Blowing my Mind. Telecasters are amaizing guitars. My lead guitar player had a Rose Wood Telecaster......beautiful in sound and in appearance.
Saw him once at The Warner Theater in the mid 80's? maybe earlier. Great God 'ole mighty, I had to leave the room to give my ears a break..lol, loved every minute of it though..
Though this is the worst quality recording of this song that I've heard, aside from the one that was cut half way through, I still liked it because the performance is unique, there are different camera angles on Roy and his guitar, and it is Roy! Oh! I just realized I was at this performance. It was great! Full house at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. I was in the center seat in the front row and enjoyed every second of it. Also, I'm happy to report that a better quality recording of this has found its way to UA-cam, years ago on the hyun chul seo channel. There are more exciting versions of this tune also on YT, Roy is usually best when he is tested by an unruly bar crowd or a poorly attended venue, to reward those who were in attendance. Thanks Roy.
actually it wasn't me. see when I went to canada in the exchange program i stayed in this guy's house, who was a music lover and he showed me this video. At that moment i knew this was some rare wonder. Thanks to him, this video is now here.
Roy is moving around on stage more than he usually did in this video. Usually, the only movement at a Roy Buchanan concert was the jaws of guitarists in the audience hitting the floor.
Any fans of Roy who have not read Phil Carsons biography called American Axe should do so. It's very well done and give fans great insight into a tormented individual with amazing innovative talent, clearly one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
Es una gran pena que el video no esté en buenas condiciones, esta canción es de mis preferidas de este gran MAESTRO!!!! De cualquier modo, gracias por el esfuerzo de subir esta joya.
Not the best. There is no best anyway.Everyone is good at his own.But Roy was the most soulful guitarist, ever walked Earth!Really a guitarist, not a poser or a showman as most of the rest are...
no pedal. watch his right pinkie; it's modulating the reverb knob. read his biography "American Axe"; it mentions that a lot of electronic gadgetry was created so other players could do what roy had been doing for years with his hands.
To barsx101, I believe that the (Hey Joe) post, was from his Austin City Limits 1977 show, you can find on his "Twice as good" dvd online, I`ve got it but don`t know how to post it , good luck, it`s worth it!!
Guys, I respect the fact that Robby doesn't like Roy`s sound. But I agree with every one, when he started to swear here to every one about how great he is, and how bad he says Roy is. I think we all here are grown up enough to understand that every one has different points of view! But lets keep the respect over here okay.
WoW, I wish you all could have been there, front stage center, you`d understand why I post, this guy put his whole being into his gig, played with no regrets and always played for keeps, Aloha Roy.
All the tone that Roy is known for is not in this video or the others posted to YT. The signal is so processed that it sounds like anybody turning up in a guitar store.
@oeddie99 OK, It's quite possible that it's not a pedal - as I said it might be a hardware tape unit. But it is definitely not just a reverb - you can hear the individual echoes. And echo (AKA delay) FX are by definition not reverb FX - related but different. Roy died in 1988; by the late 70s digital FX units (not pedals - rack-mounted hardware) that did multi-FX including reverb and delay were also available. I've 35 years experience in pro music & production - what have you two got?
@gwlhbt58 "This joke of a performance?" What are you listening to? This is genius, and it's all Roy. I don't think you know anything about Roy if you think "quietman" was his "signature demeanor." Have you only heard "Sweet Dreams?"
Hey liquorcalm, funny isn`t it how they desided to tape Roy and that concert, and we are still watching it today.? Even with all that shrieking high pitched shit. I to was lucky enough to have seen Roy live more than a few times back in the day`s. And even at his worst, he was amoung the best there ever was or will be!!!
When you arrive at the level Jimi and Roy play at, "better" is a totally obsolete term. Both of them had nearly perfect control over their instruments. Most people say one virtuoso is "better" than another when they really mean that they just prefer the other's sound, or when they just want to stir up shit.
taste is something we can't discuss every one has a different taste. I thank my last host father, who showed Roy to me. I agree with you about those bands as well, but I'm not saying they are better than Roy nor the opposite. ok if you don't like Roy, just don't discuss with the ones who likes it.
Preety good robby, boy you`v got a real ear for the strings. Sorry, I guess I`ve missed your posts, but I`m sure there out there somewere, and I think there is one other guitarist who agrees with you that Buchanan was a joke, and that is Gary Moore as he plays Roys ~The Messia will come again~ or no wait that must ov ben U on the guitar, right.!
Wow, robbie I`ve really got to know who you really are,and if you are really anybody? Please post a vid, so I can understand were you`r comin from. I know that won`t happen so quit bashin Roy until you can walk the walk. That man had real talent, and troubles as we all know,so if you`v got either please post,we are all waiting!
Does anyone know what happened to the original post by Jack Burton?, I think was his name. Same AWESOME audio, but way better vid, and were and when this was recorded? Any help appreciated, many Mahalos, urankjj.
I'm assuming when you say "reverb" knob you're refering to the volume knob on his guitar, rather than to some sort of nonexistant technology, and when you say "modulating" you mean "rolling the volume in to remove the attack of the note, in classic guitar swell fashion"? There must be a delay after that, because volume swells alone do not produce echoes.
My God !!!!!! He could make that guitar scream and cry. Seen him live over the years many times. He was truly one of a kind. No one has come close to him and I don't think anyone ever will. Wish he were still with us.
When it comes to blues guitar, Roy knows ALL and is ALL.
This man lived and breathed the blues and tore it up like no other.
Since I happened upon Roy many years ago, I've wondered why he hasn't risen to the top with the rest of the cream of the crop... Ramon's Blues is my favorite... check it out if you haven't yet
Still cant get enough of this tune. U rock Roy, Thankx......
Damn that man knew what to do, he made it cry, scream, also talk to your soul, saw his last show in Virginia Beach, VA. R.I.P. blues man.
U no U get the strangest kinda fellin on Devils night, Hallowen eve, when Roy plays the
blues, I still can`t get enough of this jam, long live rock and Roy, Aloha.
roy buchanan a guitar´s legend.
i think he is one of the best in all the history.
he is one of the greats - a light is shining inside him.
so it is with all the good ones. the feelings are real
i saw Roy in windsor ontario so many years ago i can't remember, it was in the 70's, i sat there for 2 hours with my jaw hangin open. he's at that great gig in the sky now probably jammin with jimi.
One of the BEST BLUESMEN that ever existed....
no arguing!
Without further delay, ladies and gentleman, Mister Roy Buchanan..... Play it again Roy !!!!
Long live the Master Blaster of the TeleCaster, Godspeed Roy, Mahalo!!
I only knew about Mr. Buchanan because when I was 16 i was suscribed to Guitar World Mag and read about his death. I never listened to him. I found Roy Buchanan today. Today is a good day.
An all around gifted guitarist, his range is amazing, he had a good recording career and was never really famous. I find that admirable !
Roy Buchanan is the best Tele player of all time. By far.
Telecaster Master! Christ, this man was amazing!
cant get enough of this jam!!!
Been a Roy fan for a long time
Without a doubt the best guitar player EVER
Ashame that no one was charged in his death
No bests..only favorites. My fave if Jeff Beck...I can hear how much JB "borrowed" for Roy and then took it in another direction. Used to listen to Roy in the 70's and I forgot how incredible he was. What a dunce I am. He was amazing.

Really a grear guitarist and performer. Love the sound !!
I saw this same video back in the 90's I think it was on the USA Network on a show called Night Flight. A true guitar god. thanks for sharing this.
As Roy said in Germany, "There is no such thing as NUMBER ONE, but I love you for thinking about it."
I saw Roy play while I was doing LSD at the Old Orpheum theater in Boston......He was Blowing my Mind. Telecasters are amaizing guitars. My lead guitar player had a Rose Wood Telecaster......beautiful in sound and in appearance.
Impossible to get over how good this man was...
Roy owns blues guitar. Only a few, such as SRV, can play at his level, and even then Roy stands alone.
Tout simplement un génie dans son genre de music, il utilise tout ce qu'il peut de sa guitare !!!
Dude, thats scary good shit. Play it again Roy!!! Mahalo...
Saw him once at The Warner Theater in the mid 80's? maybe earlier. Great God 'ole mighty, I had to leave the room to give my ears a break..lol, loved every minute of it though..

There used to be an H-Q version of this video right here on youtube. Where it went I don't know. Still, Roy at his best, amazing!!

I never have cared for this song. That is some killer guitar playing though.
WoW, I wish you all could have been there, front stage center, you`d understand why I post, this guy put his whole being into his gig, played with no regrets and always played for keeps, Aloha Roy.

the video is no hq but the song is still one of the best
How does he do the Guitar Howl so good?
roy made the guitar talk.....
Were is the original hd post ??
@5jerry1 I agree!
I`d swear at 7:22 that is Korskov`s
flight of the bumble bee, via Roy, fast and furious on the strings, Is that it? Mahalo.
A lot of Roys videos were removed (including some of mine) for Copyright claims which is a real shame :(
@gwlhbt58 "This joke of a performance?" What are you listening to? This is genius, and it's all Roy. I don't think you know anything about Roy if you think "quietman" was his "signature demeanor." Have you only heard "Sweet Dreams?"

that's definitely shredding a guitar
@childsplaymusic I stand corrected child, thanks for the info. Have a great day.
I still say,at 7:24, that is Rimsky Korsakov`s,"Flight of the bumble bee. But I guess Only Roy would know!
taste is something we can't discuss every one has a different taste.
I thank my last host father, who showed Roy to me.
I agree with you about those bands as well, but I'm not saying they are better than Roy nor the opposite.
ok if you don't like Roy, just don't discuss with the ones who likes it.
And some people say Roy was lacking in teqinque: -
Point made I think..
i try to find in music storage i had vhs the title of concert is down the road good luk if you try

when I die--just roll me into the grave with this playing on a disc with nuclear powered batteries and speakers on both ends inside my casket..
Wow, robbie I`ve really got to know who you really are,and if you are really anybody? Please post a vid, so I can understand were you`r comin from.
