True it's everyone's job to ward, but you can't rely on team mates in low elo to ward, or really, for them to do anything at all. The only player you can rely on is yourself, and therefore you should be warding as much as you can, since you have the most potential for vision control because of the support item giving you 3-4 free wards every time you recall
when I played with the idea that everyone was meant to ward, i ended up getting around a 40 vision score every game after changing my mindset, i consistently get 70-150 score each game honestly my team doesn't really ward, but building umbral glaive helps a lot even if you're not warding that much
Only if you are looking to hard shove or get the level 2 advantage though. If they get mad at you for trying to help them quickly push the wave then they dont know what they are doing and just mute them. If you are laning normally you generally dont want to touch the wave too much. Its a bit of an intricate topic since there are so many scenarios where the support should help to either thin out the wave or help hard shove it but generally always look to help your adc shove if you want to base or roam.
i always hard shove after enemies back and then back, i shove a bit when i see that we are getting hard shoves, so my adc doesn´t lose nearly all of cs (as most of my adcs can´t cs under tower)
I usually do it only when I see my ADC pushing. If they are only last hitting I won't touch them but when they are hard pushing I help. That seems to work well. I got yelled at for hitting minions in lower ranks but I don't anymore. :)
I also tell my supports not to touch them. Sometimes I'm trying to freeze or just take the lane a little slower, then supports start hitting them, then I'm like please stop it messes up my last hits and pushes the wave, then they say "muted" and start taking all the cs. Then sometimes I actually do say, can you help me push this, then they just walk away and back. The problem isn't people that actually play suppprt, it's all the assholes that don't know and get auto filled or just don't give a shit because they honestly don't care. There are a lot of assholes that play this game. Oh and don't get me started on when I tell my 25% HP suppprt to go back with me and they stay clearing the wave and don't back until I get back to lane leaving me in a 1 v 2 under tower, cause they think they are "helping" by clearing the wave. I just imagine all supports like they are that little kid trying to put a cube through a circle shaped hole saying, "I helping see!" Also if your carries in most of your games tell you not to touch the wave, and you still continue to do so game after game with the same response, maybe you should start listening to them? We don't tell you to stop because we're greedy, we tell you to stop because it fucks with us for no reason. Most supports hit minions cause they're bored and don't work at esrablishing lane dominance or poking so they hit a minion to be like, "I'm doing stuff!" Also don't assume that your carry looks at the map. Especially if you have a habit of hanging out behind them and then the enemy is establishing lane dominance so you go to "ward" then get mad at your carry for getting engaged on then saying, "look at the map". How about do that shit when the enemy isnt in lane all up in our face. When I get autofilled to support as a carry it's so fucking easy because I know exactly what the carry needs from me. I'd advise most supports actually play more as marksmen so they can actually see the difference between a good and bad suppport, as they will never think of themselves as bad, but seeing a bad support will make them realize what not to do.
Just had to think of the nami i had in my last game, i set up a freeze and i worked hard for it, the enemy team was out of lane, they couldnt even play the game anymore cause we could zone them off. Lane was over. Then nami decides it is a good idea to throw a bubble into the wave. you cant even imagine how much you screw your adc and this decision can cost lane and game.
Gold 2 currently. Glad to know a decent amount of these I'm doing right! I'm definitely guilty of dying in the jungle trying to place wards though lol. That's probably my biggest mistake right now as support main. I think oh my team is right behind me I can just go over here and- oh I found the enemy team.
@Buddyid yeah idk why, that was really common when i started playing. supports would come into bot lane 10 minutes later?? like did i miss something?? why are u not in the lane you're supposed to be in?
Something I always try to do is to persuade the team by trying to be funny or nice to them, so they can listen when I try to say things for their safety, but in my ELO things are really complicated in that aspect. Most of ADCs don't like to listen to their supports and that's a huge problem too.
I am not an infinite ward machine! I have limits, please use your wards as well and do not just rely on me and only me. I can only carry so many at a time.
Almost all of these are tips, not mistakes (unless the mistake is "Why _aren't_ you doing this?"). If you want to talk about common low rank mistakes, I'd point out: * not swapping from ward trinket to sweeper as soon as, or even slightly before, your support item transforms to its sightstone form * not buying Vision Wards whenever you have a spare 75g and less than 2 already in your inventory * not respecting the disparity in trade power between your botlane and theirs (most notably moving too far forward trying to "trade" with Blitzcrank, who doesn't trade, he just kills you outright) * when you fall behind with an all-in initiator support like Leona and fall badly behind, just staying in botlane and continuing to make suicide initiations that just get you killed again instead of trying to roam elsewhere * attaching yourself to your ADCs thigh and never, ever leaving their side, no matter how much other members of the team might need your help (even if you're playing Yuumi) * not respecting the all-in kill threat from off-meta weird support picks like Rengar or Jarvan just because they're "trolling" * sticking around to die with your ADC when the enemy is obviously setting up a dive and your ADC refuses to abandon the turret despite their critically low HP and your empty mana pool and used summoner spells, giving up a double kill instead of just a single one * continuing to lane with your ADC once he's shown that he's a complete _moron_ who is just going to feed and take you down with him, resulting in 2 players on the team becoming worthless instead of just 1 Mind you, a lot of this is just general "you're bad at the game" mistakes that can be made in almost any role
Telling adc to play safe in low elo hahaha. I used to do that and roam and they always died. Now i just play mid cuz loads of times u get those ppl that don't. Jeah it's nice if they do play safe. I had an Ezreal who didn't fall back when my deep ward spotted mid and jungle going bot. He also built trinity and iceborn sigh. Yes i pinged and typed in chat to fall back.
August Chan basically yeah that’s why when adc’s are ragey cry baby’s I don’t help them I can take the loss unless it’s ranked people should learn to appreciate supports and not cry because in the end you literally need a person designated to help you.
@unlucky neko Yea I agree with that. I wouldent say "can easily carry" though. I think support is by far the hardest roll to carry from since you don't farm.
As support: So a lot of them is based on your team, but you are on "low elo": they will not care any but kills, they'll not help you. Looks like an ethernal low state. I try to watch these, but I have problem with roaming: when I leave, enemy immediately start pushing, and ADC most of the time just die without any chance. And when the time looks good for roaming, ADC will return home, so we'll end up out of base sync. Also the other problem with roaming that your lvl will be 5-6 lower then others, so you'll die by 1 hit even as a tank supp. I also play ADCs sometimes, and that's why I don't understand them: They just stand behind deep far, so I can do nothing with my supp. My advice for these supps like me, that you should get some damage dealer, (mage with good CC) and dominate over your team. (I often see the enemy to have Lux, sometimes without supp items (but it's a problem I think)). It can be feasible when top and/or jungle pick some tankier champ, not like a Teemo or Vayne. Also the video doesn't mention that you should choose a counterpick. It's mean a lot, but a lot of players plays only 1 or 2 champs... They should stay on low elo.
Dániel B. Tbh most of the pros and guides tell u to play 3 champs to climb cus playing 3 champs really good is better than playing every champ like a bronze player. My point is if u r good on for example thresh you can outplay a Morgana
Geez, it reminded me of a recent game i had. I mostly main Soraka and Vel'Koz, but this time decided to play adc Twitch, and my support didn't ward anything. It was pissing me off so much.
Tipp 16: FFS dont break the freeze i worked so hard for to set up. Tipp 17: If we have a good slow push, please dont hardshove. Tipp 18: If enemy backs, please wait for our second wave to connect until we hardshove, so we can do it safely and have a bigger wave to crash. Tipp 19: In general, learn wave managment so you know what your adc is even doing so you dont wonder why you get pinged for doing nothing when you need to hardshove and why you get pinged for using nami bubble on the wave when the adc has afreeze so strong that the enemy cant even lane anymore.
@@reeceoperanumb3046 is that supposed to be insulting? Just because you have achieved so much in life by getting high elo in a video game? Cause i dont understand the reply lol
The ELO calling thing, I don't think it's the right thing to do. But you can definitely tell that this guy flames a LOT ingame. Probably the kind of people you end up muting because of the sheer ammount of pinging or messages they drop. They just can't tell there are better ways of getting the message through than pinging 7 times in a row, which just gets you as a support out of zone and playing worse cause you get anxious. "Wait for the second wave to arrive so we can hardshove" should do the trick.
I reached from Iron to Gold in a month, Gold to Platinum in about a couple more months, it doesn't need you to "play every day", just be willing to learn and you'll climb really fast. Being high elo is not the biggest deal ever, sure, however there's no need to downplay the efforts on a competitive media of someone else just because you can't push forward though. Averaje Joe on football won't get that far on his career either, he'll probably go as far as playing in his city and won't be able to make it to the national matches, does that mean his effort is useless? I don't think so.
Hey so im new to LOL and have a few questions. How come you must have these certain characters in different lanes. Why do u have to have a tank at the top? Why cant the tank be on bot or middle? I just feel like say if a certain class counters tank why not put them up there instead of having two tanks on the same lane? I feel like each class should be able to play where ever they want. Support to me should go where ever is needed not stuck on bottom lane with a basic attack based champion
It mostly has to do with the amount of gold available and placement of lanes, Tops go top because they need little to no help from the Jungler, Bot has two people because of it's closeness to dragon, and therefore the Jungler tends to go there alot. Mid is around everyone and therefore needs to be fast and have mobility in order to avoid enemy Jungler or other laners
I really like these vids, but it's based on the assumptions that the other four in my team watched this as well. The majority of what has been shown here, I'm already doing that but always seem to attract angry team mates. For example, I'm a supp main, but if my adc doesn't see me in botlane for just one second, it's instant ? pings or toxic in chat saying "get back to bot!"; also, I love roaming when I can afford it, but my egocentric mid and top always stop engaging out of protest me being there, instead of completing the gank, making my visits a complete waste of time and effort including the risk of dying in the process.
You just don't get it do you, ADCs don't react to lvl 2 spike.. i ping them and 90% of the time they'll just stay behind minionwave farming no matter if they're playing lucian or ashe or anything, and I expecting them to help me die and get pinged/flamed
i just got out of bronze and i watched this bc i wanted to get even better to get into gold and i didnt really learn much from this, i do most of these pretty consistently, maybe make a more in depth one which focuses on high elo plays rather than low elo mistakes
Especially paired with your commentary, there's definitely things to be learned here! But I must be wrong, since everybody in the comment section's already doing all these things and playing perfectly.
Tip 13, about helping jungle.. or even roaming mid. Adc gets salty and dies in lane after seeing and KNOWING that you're not there. OR you don't help jungle and jungle gets mad at bot and never ganks. Support is basically torn between weather they want a salty jungle all game or a salty adc all game and gets blamed either way they go.
Happens a lot. Funny thing, midlane can be the same. If you don't have priority they will flame you for not following roams, not helping the jungler... No matter how many times you ping. Happened in silver, but also happens in plat.
#5 If the enemy jungler has the same idea he just pushes me back because i cant contest him and clears my wards. This happens 90% of the time and im often alone unable to protect the vision ive prepared. ALSO when say i prepare Baron vision and then the enemy Assassin comes through and sweeps everything away with his Duskblade.. Sooo fucking frustrating
Okey but what if ur team mates dont use the map? Or spam ping as soon as u come close for a good roam, or feed and blame support for not helping if I have 200 hp left??
One slight problem on the firs tip tho: In low elo people cry about no vision, but when you tell your team you cant facecheck alone they dont listen or start flaming you even more.. Any tips on that?
Just wait until you see the enemy team somewhere on the map so you can be sure they won‘t camp or like he said slowly check bush after bush if you got range abilities
Tips are nice and as a supp main I appreciate the advise, sadly half this is sometimes not possible. Why? No one is gonna be like "sure I'll come protect you while you ward." And a massive chunk of the time your ADC is gonna not play safe while you roam, they will die, and proceed to yell at you because "You're support! You're suppose to be with me!" Not realizing support is "supporting the whole team!" Yell at you for trying to help shove, and most likely report you for griefing and we all know how Riot works with reports and bans, you dont have to be doing anything considered wrong, you just have to accumulate enough reports.
I love when my suppprts just stand behind me and our entire minion wave just doing nothing, then complain to me when we get engaged on and they arent in position to do anything. Meanwhile enemy support is all up in my face establishing lane dominance for their carry. Feels good man.
What do you want him to do? Tell him in a short message that gets it through. "help me shove"/"peel me a bit more, I can't farm at all", etc etc. Not playing behind minions and getting hooked by enemy Thresh is not his fault, mainly if Thresh has a REALLY strong lvl 2.
Whenever I try to thin out the wave for adcs they complain and say I’m making it impossible to farm. I never attack any minions they’re currently targeting. What do I do in those situations?
A throw in to #8. I get don’t last hit minions, but I run melee champs with Relic shield, so when I have a stack and I last hit we share the gold, do it especially Cannon Minions. Just my two cents from a support main.
Something to keep in mind, is that relic shield is a very valuable source of healing for your ad, sometimes its better to use it for regen rather than maximizing gold.
@@System-zu7np I usualy have Aery/Comet with the item anyway so I didn't mention it because I played a lot of tank supports lately. Even more because I just got Blood Moon Thresh and Rebel Lancer Blitzcrank !
To all ADCs seeing this video: Please don't open your chat to say "Please ward", "You play so bad lmao", "Why didn't you cured me?" when playing with m6 or m5 supp because we fucking know how to play but we dont have eternal ward and cure to use as you wish. Also, please don't ignore supp stun early game when you're playing with Lux, Soraka or Morgana. Give it an AA so you will push them to go B earlier and you may get first blood lv5.
I mean in Vietnam sever thing got a little chaos they dont play sp that often and adc are trash i play morgana sp and sometime i feel my team is garbage 😥😥😥😥 90% my yassuo will feed and jungle dont make make an impact my god I hate my sever .If you Pro out there want a real chalenge go to Vietnam sever is a HELL of a sever to clim.
I literally know half of these tips, but anytime I try to execute said tips I get flamed. Had a pantheon one game flame me for helping him get two kills mid lane, while my adc complained I was not there. In Low ELO half of these things are hard to pull off because you have to juggle pleasing your adc, mid, and jungle and some people will literally grief you for trying to help other members of the team/leaving your lane. It’s like what do I do?
Good video, my unsolicited advise would be to have examples of what you are talking about playing in the background instead of just random game footage.
low elo supports are almost always SO damn agro! i was w/ a soraka who just walked at the enemy... they had an ahri bot(?) that would just charm them every time. like chill
@@BlaxeFrost-X True, but they always blame supports for roaming and then asks team to report... Cause of all these bullshit, I am switching to adc, at least at this position I understand my support better and can play well with him cause I understand the struggle of being a support.
I actually have to disagree with using the abilities on the minion wave as a support, sure autoattack to get the lvl first. But I truly think the abilities should be saved for the enemy champion, am i way off here?
I think it depends on what the abilities do and why you're using them. If you actually want to shove a lane a Lux E can help pretty nicely with that. Safe the Q for cc etc. But if your intention is to poke or counter poke, safe the E for poking?
This video is really helpful but title is a bit misleading. It’s more like 15 tips, not mistakes. Glad i got around to watching it tho, i learned a lot!

I've been away from this game for 6 years. #4 is certainly something that would have you bitched at by your team when I left. No wonder this has been so frustrating since i came back, old faux pas' are now 'proper game play'....BAH
Lol. Ask your teammates to help you ward in enemy jungle? Tell your adc to play it safe...how magical of you to think so...You do realize in bronze that's utterly silly as they don't respond to pings, chats or any other map related content?
Truee, I've lost quite a few games as a very squishy support because of a really important baron for the enemy, yet not a single person on my team comes with me to help ward or even understand what that means... and then they flame you for not watching the thing you asked for help with, or if you go anyways 99% of the time I'm dead.
I would just add 16: It's better for you as a support to take kill rather than gamble if ur adc has enough dmg to finish target and not die.

True it's everyone's job to ward, but you can't rely on team mates in low elo to ward, or really, for them to do anything at all. The only player you can rely on is yourself, and therefore you should be warding as much as you can, since you have the most potential for vision control because of the support item giving you 3-4 free wards every time you recall
when I played with the idea that everyone was meant to ward, i ended up getting around a 40 vision score every game
after changing my mindset, i consistently get 70-150 score each game
honestly my team doesn't really ward, but building umbral glaive helps a lot even if you're not warding that much
Tip 8 throw abilities into minions. When i do this my adc start to ping me and shout dont touch minions...

i always hard shove after enemies back and then back, i shove a bit when i see that we are getting hard shoves, so my adc doesn´t lose nearly all of cs (as most of my adcs can´t cs under tower)
I just imagine all supports like they are that little kid trying to put a cube through a circle shaped hole saying, "I helping see!"
Also if your carries in most of your games tell you not to touch the wave, and you still continue to do so game after game with the same response, maybe you should start listening to them? We don't tell you to stop because we're greedy, we tell you to stop because it fucks with us for no reason. Most supports hit minions cause they're bored and don't work at esrablishing lane dominance or poking so they hit a minion to be like, "I'm doing stuff!"
Also don't assume that your carry looks at the map.
"Eh, I'll be able to lantern someone in" - A soon to be dead Thresh
Same.
I only play Bard so I'm like "Eh my team can come if I R".
I really need to correct that.
XX. Remember that sometimes your ADC is just not worth supporting.
I've had supps "cheat" on their ADC by coming midlane when they know botlane is just gonna get stomped haha
@Buddyid yeah idk why, that was really common when i started playing. supports would come into bot lane 10 minutes later?? like did i miss something?? why are u not in the lane you're supposed to be in?
The best tip is go find a good adc duo
Something I always try to do is to persuade the team by trying to be funny or nice to them, so they can listen when I try to say things for their safety, but in my ELO things are really complicated in that aspect. Most of ADCs don't like to listen to their supports and that's a huge problem too.
I am not an infinite ward machine! I have limits, please use your wards as well and do not just rely on me and only me. I can only carry so many at a time.
10:00 the MVP karma flash to block a lee sin Q that didn't even happen. But I love the thought!
Almost all of these are tips, not mistakes (unless the mistake is "Why _aren't_ you doing this?"). If you want to talk about common low rank mistakes, I'd point out:
* not swapping from ward trinket to sweeper as soon as, or even slightly before, your support item transforms to its sightstone form
* not buying Vision Wards whenever you have a spare 75g and less than 2 already in your inventory
* not respecting the disparity in trade power between your botlane and theirs (most notably moving too far forward trying to "trade" with Blitzcrank, who doesn't trade, he just kills you outright)
* when you fall behind with an all-in initiator support like Leona and fall badly behind, just staying in botlane and continuing to make suicide initiations that just get you killed again instead of trying to roam elsewhere
* attaching yourself to your ADCs thigh and never, ever leaving their side, no matter how much other members of the team might need your help (even if you're playing Yuumi)
* not respecting the all-in kill threat from off-meta weird support picks like Rengar or Jarvan just because they're "trolling"
* sticking around to die with your ADC when the enemy is obviously setting up a dive and your ADC refuses to abandon the turret despite their critically low HP and your empty mana pool and used summoner spells, giving up a double kill instead of just a single one
* continuing to lane with your ADC once he's shown that he's a complete _moron_ who is just going to feed and take you down with him, resulting in 2 players on the team becoming worthless instead of just 1
Mind you, a lot of this is just general "you're bad at the game" mistakes that can be made in almost any role
The last. :D Sadly this was (sometimes still is?) one of my mistakes.
Lol, this comment went from extremely helpful to lmao
Telling adc to play safe in low elo hahaha. I used to do that and roam and they always died. Now i just play mid cuz loads of times u get those ppl that don't. Jeah it's nice if they do play safe. I had an Ezreal who didn't fall back when my deep ward spotted mid and jungle going bot. He also built trinity and iceborn sigh. Yes i pinged and typed in chat to fall back.
Sounds a lot like babysitting the adc 😅
Well as support you are supposed to babysit them until they’re able to do dmg
August Chan basically yeah that’s why when adc’s are ragey cry baby’s I don’t help them I can take the loss unless it’s ranked people should learn to appreciate supports and not cry because in the end you literally need a person designated to help you.
Me: Already knew every tip, guess im not low elo 😎
Also me: *cries in silver😭*
i feel ya
It's hard to rank up from silver/gold as support, you have too little influence in general with some exceptions like blitz and pyke.
@@wiperiser1 i'm climbing... it's important, the only problem is that you only create chances, not certainties
@unlucky neko Yea I agree with that. I wouldent say "can easily carry" though. I think support is by far the hardest roll to carry from since you don't farm.
@@wiperiser1 Xerath is amazing as support. I can easily pick it up if adc is slacking, even though I miss almost half of the shots.
I had midlaners go afk bc I roamed mid as support.
this hits home :(
Lmao what’s wrong with this?
Wow! This guide is so in-depth and informative. Thanks for spending your time on this, it helped me a lot. :)
This list slowly transitioned from DONT do this to Start doing this. Both are helpful
i've watched some other guides and they were all too advanced for a casual player like me, but THIS, THIS IS SOOO USEFUL THANKS
This is one of the best videos on support I've seen in years. Amazing and insightful tips for beginners!
Rachel B I cant move
Geez, it reminded me of a recent game i had. I mostly main Soraka and Vel'Koz, but this time decided to play adc Twitch, and my support didn't ward anything. It was pissing me off so much.
Those tunes on in the background make it sound like you're throwing some chill freestyle rap
Tipp 19: In general, learn wave managment so you know what your adc is even doing so you dont wonder why you get pinged for doing nothing when you need to hardshove and why you get pinged for using nami bubble on the wave when the adc has afreeze so strong that the enemy cant even lane anymore.
i can just tell you're gold 2
I’m currently iron 2, and I need to learn the whole warding the jungle thing. Do you have a video on the best bushes for wards and control wards?
Ward places with multiple paths leading to it
Hey so im new to LOL and have a few questions.
@@jsg5612 your the first thats been able to explain this to me so well. I understand it alot more now. Thank you so much!

I feel like all adc mains should watch support guides too. It’s really good for adc’s to know how the support role works
Been looking forward to this video! All your other tip videos are awesome. I play a lot of support so this is helpful. Time to get out of Bronze ;)
4:30 i'd argue that's too early for stealth wards at least since they despawn quite quickly.
i just got out of bronze and i watched this bc i wanted to get even better to get into gold and i didnt really learn much from this, i do most of these pretty consistently, maybe make a more in depth one which focuses on high elo plays rather than low elo mistakes
I love watching videos like this while doing art projects for school.
Cool video, learned a lot. LoL. Im gold 4 and I still didn't know half of these. Keep up the good work!
Wait how are you in gold then? This is like bronze level knowledge
@@merren2306 gold is so close to bronze for knowledge
#5 If the enemy jungler has the same idea he just pushes me back because i cant contest him and clears my wards. This happens 90% of the time and im often alone unable to protect the vision ive prepared. ALSO when say i prepare Baron vision and then the enemy Assassin comes through and sweeps everything away with his Duskblade.. Sooo fucking frustrating
Okey but what if ur team mates dont use the map? Or spam ping as soon as u come close for a good roam, or feed and blame support for not helping if I have 200 hp left??
hi i'm vietnamese guy
All of these things are so logical & simple... sometimes people just need a little push to realize
Dope LoFi background music, made me listen to you better. Gj video is good

What do i do if the opponents are pushing tower hard and my bot recalls, do I follow up on it?
I love when my suppprts just stand behind me and our entire minion wave just doing nothing, then complain to me when we get engaged on and they arent in position to do anything. Meanwhile enemy support is all up in my face establishing lane dominance for their carry. Feels good man.
Especially if u play Ezreal, which is really hard to farm by himself (moreover once enemy adc has BF sword)
@@zetkarzetos4824 If you play Ezreal and your support does nothing, just let the enemy push and farm under turret. I don't think it's hard.
I used to count even the level one Enchanter item as a vision item by aiming at bushes. Triggering Tribute menat that the enemy is there.
Works with comet/aery as well!
@@System-zu7np I usualy have Aery/Comet with the item anyway so I didn't mention it because I played a lot of tank supports lately. Even more because I just got Blood Moon Thresh and Rebel Lancer Blitzcrank !
i was challenger last season, i really can't carry anymore if your team sucks, it's almost playing 1v5 as support.
Looking for a support main to duo with in gold elo. I’m looking to climb to plat. Lmk
This lux gameplay in the background is painful..
low elo supports are almost always SO damn agro! i was w/ a soraka who just walked at the enemy... they had an ahri bot(?) that would just charm them every time. like chill

I switched from a top main to a support main and I do my job as a support not tryna sound cocky but I dropped 100lp I might have to go back to top
#3 is waste of time and energy, they always move up or play aggressive and die and then blames the support for roaming
not the support's mistake though...
