I’ve been wearing keens for 12 years and I won’t lie before they switched to American production they were made in China about two years ago. They were still very comfortable but after about 8 months the sole bonding or the toe rubber would separate. I still bought them because they were so comfortable on my feet and most importantly my back. The quality since they went to American production is night and day. I bought a pair the first time the American version was available and they are still holding up. The support is also better in these. They also make my red wings feel flat footed and heavy. The keens never get wet inside, every other brand I’ve owned have gotten soggy even when spraying a can of kiwi or mink oil on them.
Love my CHIPPEWA 27422. I'm a mechanic, and I walk my dog miles every day. I only wear these boots. I keep them polished properly to protect the leather. Soles last about 2 years. Great foot & ankle support have saved me numerous times. Highly recommend.
I work in a wastewater plant. As a 65 year old, who has worked industrial jobs since 1973. Machine shops, Stationary/Operating Engineer, or even as a truck driver. Your feet like rotating your boots for freshness. I have lace ups, and pull ons. All are safety toe and waterproof. I try and buy ESD rated also. I work 12 hour or longer shifts. I own Keen's, Red Wings, Thorogood, Wolverine, Carhartt, and Hytest. I have an old work injury on the right foot arch. So many of the boots have custom footbeds. For casual wear I mostly wear Keen sandals.
Those met guards are great for welders. I dropped a solid stainless steel bar 1"x4"x50" off the bench and it left a stamp in the concrete floor. That lands on the top of your foot and your in a foot brace or cast for over a month. The outer shell guard is great too because it keeps sparks from burning up your laces 🔥
Great video. I had no idea that Keen was this in depth with their shoes. I got a buddy that has a pair and works in landscaping. Says Keen is the best hands down. I love my Kujo shoes for landscaping, but I got to check these out. Education never hurt no body - haha
2 thumbs up for Keen Boots!! There Deffenetly holding up better than any boot I've had. 30 years of wearing steel toe loggers @ 2 pairs a year to 1 pair of Keen' s a year. I own several from 3 types work shoes and a set of scandals
I’ve used Keen steel toed boots a couple years now with no complaints. The more open toe seems to allow my feet to be less tired at the end of a 12 hour day 👍👍. Found my first pair at TSC.
Thanks for the part about the concrete protected boots... I have been buying leather boots for years only to replace them in 6 months... Keen will be my next boot to buy! Love the tour.
Have you tried Redwing's? If not try those as far as shoes goes they have lasted the longest for me. I used to go through shoes in 3 months. Now they last a year and a half, the tennis shoe model with safety toe.
@@urkryptoknight6793 I bought a pair of Redwing steel toed boots when I was attending commercial driving school because I could feel the steel plates of the truck steps through my nike's, in just a couple weeks I was back at the redwing store buying another pair without the steel toes because I loved them so much. I've been working construction and plumbing for 10 years. I'm convinced boots are a personal thing. Some guys like brand x over brand y or vice versa. For me personally I only wear slip on boots and I'm an Ariat man!
I've had my redwings for 10 years and beat the fire out of them. When I called all the redwing stores in a 100 plus mile radius looking for a 14eee they had nothing. I was surprised that the last store told me that I should check out keen for the wider toe and the quality. I'm loving them and when I climb in and out of the semi I don't have to change since they're comfortable enough for driving.

I’ve just ordered me a keen utility mid Braddock. I’m a UPS package delivery driver and I’m fighting the weather at all the time. I’ve read so many good reviews on keen work boots and I’ve decided to buy me a pair. I’m hoping that my new keen boots will do me good. If it does, I will try one of the backpacking boots from keen as well. My new boots will arrive in two days... I can’t wait to put on my new keen utility mid Braddock.
Sorry I'm not mentioning a Made in USA product. But I recently started wearing a pair of Ariat Mens Rebar 6" H2O Composite Toe work boots. So far they are amazing! I hate a big clunky boot. Especially with how I'm constantly moving around, up and down off the truck, through rain and mud. These Ariat boots are very light and they feel like a pair of tennis shoes on my feet. I'm 6'4" 250 lbs. and I'm hard on boots. But so far these boots seem to be pretty tough. And they have the main qualities I was looking for: waterproof, good support, traction, and composite toes.
I wear my Keens (Pittsburgh 6") every day. I work in a machine shop environment, and split my time between shop & office. I was previously wearing Georgia boots for years that would usually last me 12-18 months. Keens were very comfortable, but I blew out the sides of the Keens at the flex in 5-months, not impressed. I was, however, impressed that Keen honored their warranty and is sending me a replacement pair with no hassles. I ordered a different style (Philadelphia) with the 3/4 welt sole. We'll see if they hold up better... Had the stink problem with the Keen's, which I never had with the Georgia's until the last pair I bought (same as previous style pairs I was wearing for years). I'm wondering if it has something to do with a change in materials...
I get a 300$ boot voucher every year at work and I've been at my job for 10 years which has allowed me to try every high end manufactured boot from red wing timberland pro Carolina to name a few. Keen are hands down the most comfortable boots I've worn and they last just as long as other boots I've named. Also keen dry doesn't fail within 6 months unlike gortex and whatever Red Wing Carolina use make my feet wet after an hour of work. I love the davinport and Dover because I put on a lot of miles on a daily basis. I can't go back to any heavy lug soles boots.
Love this review of work boots. Nevet heard of Keen boots. I've used Redwings for so many years. Always been open to other brands but never seen better. I liked what the one guy said in beginning likes a tight fit. Being a roofer it feels much better wearing a snug fit boot.
Love the education of the keen boots. I wonder if keen can make boots to withstand 5 years of new England hell of season both for sub zero winters and 100+° summers and still feel comfortable. I ask because I burn thru boots in 3 to 9 month as Indy contractor and in the winters here in Connecticut I need a decent part of boots to keep my feet warm and dry for those long 20 to 48 hours of snow removal and during the summer my feet become over heated that they start to bleed from the intense pain they indure from 8 to 10 hour days I put in on multiple surfaces. I can go from a flat concrete floor to a incline of a roof to replace or fix a roof and of all things have to worry about have a nail going thru the bottom of my boots from leveling out a dumpster of waste material.
I'm also in CT and experience the same thing. My work can range from tarring a foundation to doing final punchlist. I'm going through 2-3 pair a year and for the past 3-4 years have mainly worn Danner and Timberland. I've stuck between $80-$150. I'm wondering if I need to up my price point. I blew through a pair Timberlands so fast I sent them back, got a free pair and 6-7 months later still brought another pair.lol
I am a contractor in Vermont. I wear my keen targees all year around unless I am working in deep snow. I buy a new pair every spring. I keep my old pair as a back up. I basically get 2 years out my backup pair.
Ive had 2 pairs of keen and they are size 15 4e wide steel toe.i think its called king toe for wide feet. Used in heavy duty diesel industry. Not one complaint. Made my back hurt less legs hurt much less also.
@@Dirtmonkey not sure...they're a great American company I agree...I've spoken with the warranty department...I own 4 pair right now...I'm sure they'll stand by their product
So glad you made it to Portland! If you ever come back, I'd love to have you come talk to us at the City of Portland about the importance of pre- apprenticeship programs.
I like Keen’s very comfortable. I’ve bought three pairs in 4 years. The soles across the ball of the foot seems to wear out first for me. It gets thin and then splits. They last as long as anything else I’ve worn just way more comfortable.
When you find a product that does right by you, and then the company opens their factory to you, and even lest you custom make your own product, to me that is class. I do not go through boots, as I drive a desk, but Keen will be my next boot.
Trying being a Diesel mechanic. We stretch out the boots from waking back and forth across a shop and yard. The sides and toe get torn up from rolling around in grease, oil. Welding etc. 6 months max. You can wear them 1 year but your feet will smell. I wish they made boots to last 2 years lol
I love all these videos. I really would like to see some drainage work videos. Here in NC 80% of our calls is for drainage work. It pays great but just want to see how we do compared to the legends in the industry with quoting and execution. We do everything from French drains to culverts and learning how to pick which drain is best for the issue sometimes gets tricky.
After reading the comments I don't feel so bad about my Rocky boots opening up on both the insides at the ball of the foot. The leather came apart from the sole and now it's wide open. Other than that the boots are still in great condition so I just keep wearing them this way. I do landscaping so plenty of shovel digging, planting, kneeling, tree trimming, walking through stacks of branches etc. It took them about 5-6 months to start separating. After reading the comments I think I'll look at thorogood, nicks, and Carolina for my next pair.
I love red wings. They are awesome. I wouldn’t buy a different boot. I also have had keens and I loved them a ton. But my personal fav is red wing. Once broken in.
I love danner boots, I worked in the prison as a guard. Then worked in a casino. Gortex plus walking on concrete floors all the time. Then if you want them rebuilt you can send them back with money, they will rebuild them for you. With me, uppers and insoles are great, tread wears out. I can get new treads and maybe new shank but everything else it broke in. No breaking period, they are also in Portland. They are heavy but 20 years wearing them, I don’t notice it anymore.
Commercial Sheet Metal Worker and Thorogood moc toes have been the best. Soles last longer on concrete or iron a d put some tuff toe on em and they last bout a year to two before a resole. I wear the 4201s only
I know this is an old video, but when I was going through commercial driving school the first time I climbed up on a truck I was wearing a pair of nikes I could feel the metal steps through the bottom of Nike's (disclaimer, I am a fat man). I talked to a guy and he suggested RedWings, so I went to a redwings store and they fitted me out in a pair of steel toed mid cut boots. I was back no less then 2 weeks later buying another pair without the steel toe just for regular wear. This was back in 2016. I won't say they look new, and I have worn out the original insole, but man do I love my Redwings. now when ever I run into a guy he stands up all day long I suggest redwings to him or her. I do agree with the toe cap, that is the one thing I hate about my redwings with the steel toe, I can feel how cramped my toes are under the cap.
If you want really good boots look at Nicks or Franks custom boots they are handmade in America i use to only wear redwings, but was tired of buying new boots every year. I have only had my nicks for about six months but they are way more comfortable than redwings. The nice thing about the handmade boots is they can be re-soled and rebuilt. The only drawback is they are heavy boots
I like the feel of bonded boots. Hate that they fall apart. I had hunting boots, Worn two weeks a year. lasted 5 years. padded sole just disintegrated.
Great video! Thank you for making this! I have two pair of Red Wing boots and another pair of Keen boots that I've had for almost 2 years. I wear them all for different applications. I would like to see more educational videos with other people using other boots and there personal opinions on those boots.
Personally I wear Ariat work boots and never have a problem. They are super comfy and I have consistently gotten 3-4 years out of each pair. We do excavation work so I am in the dirt, mud, rocks all day everyday.
I wear a pear of keen boots, I work in a factory so i dont walk too much and I'm not really hard on them. They don't breathe at all, sweat collects in puddles on the sole. They fell apart in 4 months. The heel ripped out of one and the toe ripped out of the other. Theyre comfortable though even without much padding.
Danner has been the only boot I can get to last a full season plus. All others have came apart and started leaking. They have a few pair that are stitched soles those are what I buy. Keens did fit good , but when spending $150-$250 on boots longevity has to factor in.
I go through about 1 pair a year. They still are usually waterproof. The laces are about the only thing I go through on them, 2 pair of laces a year is about the norm. I used to wear Red Wings until they decided to sign a petition against off-roading. The Keens have been great, I’m on about my 4th or 5th pair.
I wear meta tech stc boots the first 3 weeks you will hate them but after they break in they are great. I usually get a year or so out of the, due to mud , acidic water, cement , oil etc from a mine.. but the last pair are over 1.5 years old and still don't leak. I have beeen spraying them with fluid film weekly it seams to keep the boots from rotting quite well. Don't have much of a choice since the company pays 1/2 at their selected retailer.
Love the keens , but in my experience you really have to carefully pick and choose , now 12 years ago never had a issue with any model . Curious if anyone else has experience certain models not being up to par?
I’ve had multiple pairs of keen boots. They are very comfortable but the soles fall off. The soles always start peeling off almost immediately. I am a general contractor doing lots of roofing, ag building construction, concrete, and siding. I’m back to thouroughgood, timberland, carolina, or steel blue.
I weld for a living. I have went through some boots!! The best boot I can find is Justin brand I normally get about 1.5 to 2 years out of Them and they cost me about $200
I'm really hard on boots, I've got a short leg so one foot wears much faster and the other foot wears the inside out fast. Any thing with the soft foam lasts 3 months till im walking out the inside. I need hard rubber... A redwing will last 11 months. I paid the piper and bought a Hathorn logger it was very expensive $300. 2.5 years later they are ready to be repaired. They are wildland fire ceritified. So great for welding in. I build fence by myself, sometimes miles from cell service so ankle support and traction is vital. One fall prevented could be life saving as sometimes no one knows exactly where im at... My next boot will be whites...hathorns big brother. They are custom molded to your feet. They first week is heck on your feet, but after that they are the most comfortable you'll ever have.
My favorite boots so far for landscaping is the danger rain forest pricy but the boots lasted 4 years my second favorite has been the danger quarry if your on hard surfaces a lot the quarry is better but the boot didn’t lay as long about 3 years I have had wolverines, cats, redwings none of them last more than 6 months actually the redwing I only wore about a month before tossing them.
you should do something on work clothing, like pants, jackets, maybe overall and coverall. under-clothing, like long-john for winter and summer clothing, as I have been at job site, when have to where full length pant legs, but wearing then feel uncomfortable, because they hold onto body heat. An I like to know what pant allow good air flow for killer hot summer days.
I have a pair of Keen steel toe shoes and they're super comfortable but the soles start to come off after about 6 or 7 months. I'd still buy another pair.
I started out with a pair of Keen Lansing's earlier this year and on day 2 I busted a lace loop. They warrantied the boot and I picked a pair of the Tucson's. The Tucson is the most comfortable best feeling boots I have ever put on. I guess I am just rough on footwear because the side of the boot it blowing out and the soles are already starting to wear through. Unfortunately for me they don't and won't warranty a boot that I got from a previous warranty. Maybe I am in the wrong boot. I wish they had warrantied the second pair.
I got a pair of keen composit safety toe hikers. I wore them for about 6 monts. Started working in super dirty conditions so i out my keens up to keep them good. Several moths later i put them back on. The left shoe at my big toe some part of the boot curled inward. Rubbing on my toe it rubbed a blister on me. I could feel it when i stuck my hand in there. I could push it back with my fingers but it would curl back inward again. I wasnt sure what to do with it and i forgot about them for another coupple months. Then i decided to take them back to where they were purchase from. I was told " we can't do anything about it" I felt like a saftey boot costing 150.00 dollars befor taxes should come with some type of warranty, i looked it up on the internet. Low and behold there is a 1 year warranty against deficit. I wasnt sure how long it had been i was sure i was close to the year mark but didnt retain the reciept foe proof. On the keen web site they ask foe pictures of the boot from different angles along with one of the tag intact to prove its not a second or fake. I sent it all in to warranty clame. The website said reply may take some time but they would review my claim and would respond. But its almost a year later no response of any sort. And i have a defective boot that i cant wear. Burns my ass thinking about it still. They were comfortable and really like them. Thats why i didnt wear them in the really nasty work conditions. Sure wish i had jumped on getting the warranty claim as soon as i had the problem. As my old teacher used to tell us " a word to the wise is sufficient"
I needed a boot dryer. I used red wings and they'd always be kinda moist after work. Eventually it started fucking up one of my feet bad, had to take time off work and my foot is still kinda fucked up.
my experience with metatarsal is it sucks until it saves you. i worked in the steel and aluminum industry seemed to me when something dropped it misses the metatarsil barely and rails the side of your foot. i wish companies (i used redwing) would expand the plate an inch or 2 wider. also the damn guard catches everything
I gave up on Keen boots! the don't work for landscaping, they collect fine dirt in the in the liner and start to crush your feet/ toes. for example I have gone through 2 pair of Keens in one landscape season of about 9 months. both pair of different styles collected fine dirt/ sand in the liner around the toes.
i just bought a pair of thorgoods and they are great for factory work where i work i where danners for hunting and land scaping but most people like keens for hiking
Keen doesn't make extra wide and most are not a stiched boot if you get wet and dry all the time that's important. But most companies only make a few boots in extra wide
Love KEENS had several pairs of work shoes then bought a pair of boots. Sole fell off the boots, KEEN replaced them very easily. I can not recommend KEEN enough. Love them.
Just bought me a pair from their website. I've always bought Thorogoods. I guess I'll give these Keens a try. Thanks for your review hopefully you can get a commission of my purchase.
I wish we could wear whatever boots fits us best. In the military you have to have a specific color. And being CE, we have to wear steel toe and I’m also an electrician so it has to be EH rated. This narrows it down to like two or three boots if that lol.
I like Keen but...... I had a life time warranty pair that the tread kept failing on me with in 6 months, they stopped the warranty on me lmao. I purchased an off the shelf boot from them the sole fell off in 2 months and my feet would not stay dry because the boot would not breath. I ended up going with CAT boots with a GOODYEAR welt so i can have the tread replaced easy; 1 yr of use then a new tread "sole" is put on. they breath and less glues to fail.
Stan, the Keen boots you reference in the first link below the video are made in China according to the questions/answers in the Amazon listing. Also the Amazon reviews are not so good. A lot of users say the boots don't wear well, although they do seem to think they are comfortable.
Have you ever heard of Bogs brand? I've had a pair since April of this year, & work on a ranch with a finishing feedlot. Very comfortable, but the stitched seam on the inside of both feet has failed.
I got 2 pairs of Merrill, boots and shoes, boots less than 5 month old and shoes are maybe 4 months, both falling apart and uncomfortable. I drive. A truck 10+ hours aday
I only had one pair of keen figured give them a try compared to my carhart and danner and Carolina boots I've had my carhart and danner boots for about 3 or 4 years and the keen boots didn't last 3 weeks

Awesome Jeff! Thanks
How do they hold up on a roof
I love wedge soles but I walk funny and crush the outsides of my heels. Any recommendations? 🤙🏾
Love this review of work boots. Nevet heard of Keen boots. I've used Redwings for so many years. Always been open to other brands but never seen better. I liked what the one guy said in beginning likes a tight fit. Being a roofer it feels much better wearing a snug fit boot.
CAM Marshall you need to try thorogood boots my friend. I only wore red wings until I tried heritage emperor toe from thorogood.
Thanks for the comments CAM Marshall, and glad the video may have helped you out
Awesome vid, love Keen boots too. Use mine in ranching and hiking
Thanks for the comments Paul and glad you liked the video
Awesome, thanks for the comments!
Love my Keen boots! And the bottoms always fall off! Always!!! Great fit...great boot ...bad bottoms...sad Stoney Ridge Farmer 😪
Well that sucks- I wonder why it happens
Me too. I drag my feet too much
Will they hold up to dairy farm cow manure?
@@Dirtmonkey not sure...they're a great American company I agree...I've spoken with the warranty department...I own 4 pair right now...I'm sure they'll stand by their product
@@LanceSheppard hey lance! They're great boots...i don't think its manure messing mine up
So glad you made it to Portland!
Great judd, thanks !
I can have keen hiking boots i got 4 years ago there comfortable and have no issues. I bought my son keen sandals he loves them.
When you find a product that does right by you, and then the company opens their factory to you, and even lest you custom make your own product, to me that is class.
I do not go through boots, as I drive a desk, but Keen will be my next boot.
Awesome to hear Frank, thank you!
Thanks for watching Kyle and thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for the comments, comfortable boots are a must !
Awesome Daniel, thanks !!
Yes I am on my feet all day. I need a comfortable durable steel-toed boot. Thanks great video. I am going to check out Keen boots.
I wear keen, we do maintenance, small hard scape and Landscaping projects and they are light and dray.
That was great. Wish I had know about them when I was driving a end dump. wore out alot of boots. Sand, gravel and salt are hard on boots.
Glad you liked it Dan, thanks !
i have loved keen but red wings is hands down my favorite
I agree.. you’re only as good as your equipment- I own 3 different makes of boots- so my feet don’t conform to one specific kind- good video 👍🏻
Thanks RJ!
That’s what I wear doing metal roofing and they grip the metal roofing pretty good but the seams on the sides of the pinky toe wear out fairly fast
I also will only buy the American Built ones as well.
Really great video! Such great information and learned a lot about the design of boots
Thanks Pamela!
Thank you for this ive been looking for a really good work foot and im going to give these a try
Great Josh, thanks !
Love the keens , but in my experience you really have to carefully pick and choose , now 12 years ago never had a issue with any model . Curious if anyone else has experience certain models not being up to par?
Keen, Danner, and Anderson Bean is all I wear! Made in America
Thanks for the input Jacob and thanks for watching !
That was a bad ass video man I could have seen some more of this that was really cool man Big Ups bro👊👊👍👍👍🤘🤙🤙
Thanks Roy!
Thanks for the comments Tyrell!
Metatarsal protection is also great for welding
you should do something on work clothing, like pants, jackets, maybe overall and coverall. under-clothing, like long-john for winter and summer clothing, as I have been at job site, when have to where full length pant legs, but wearing then feel uncomfortable, because they hold onto body heat. An I like to know what pant allow good air flow for killer hot summer days.
Good ideas, thank you !
I have a pair of Keen steel toe shoes and they're super comfortable but the soles start to come off after about 6 or 7 months. I'd still buy another pair.
They need to put industry boot recombinations on there website. Also get rid of the single lace holder thing and go only double
Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
Love your channel keep up the good work
Thanks so much ! Glad you like the channel
Ariait work boots and Caterpillar boots are the best boots I have ever worn
I like Dewalt boot myself. They stay dry in wet a not to heavy. In England not much choice to be honest. Great video thanks mate. God bless. 👍👍
Thanks David- God Bless!
No Amazon in England?
my experience with metatarsal is it sucks until it saves you. i worked in the steel and aluminum industry seemed to me when something dropped it misses the metatarsil barely and rails the side of your foot. i wish companies (i used redwing) would expand the plate an inch or 2 wider. also the damn guard catches everything
I love my red wings and I’ve had them for three years and they’ve been going strong from doing plumbing work
Great vid. Just entered trades. Time to get rid of the factory boots
Thank you !
Fan of justin brand boots have of pair lasting 2 years currently. I work in an automotive factory
I love my keens but I'll have to say my new Ariat (work paid for) are really comfortable too
i just bought a pair of thorgoods and they are great for factory work where i work i where danners for hunting and land scaping but most people like keens for hiking
hey anyone knows where to get the boots he featured in 8:01 same color for Austria (Europe) i checked stores but couldnt find it.?
Keen doesn't make extra wide and most are not a stiched boot if you get wet and dry all the time that's important. But most companies only make a few boots in extra wide
Love KEENS had several pairs of work shoes then bought a pair of boots. Sole fell off the boots, KEEN replaced them very easily. I can not recommend KEEN enough. Love them.
Would like to see reviews of light weight waterproof work gloves.
Good idea Matt, thanks
Badass video. Thanks brother!
Thank you !
Yes more education. Great channel.
Thank you John!
What u did was education on shoes. Very important!!
Just bought me a pair from their website. I've always bought Thorogoods. I guess I'll give these Keens a try. Thanks for your review hopefully you can get a commission of my purchase.
Thanks Javier, hope you like them !
Any thoughts after a year
What kind of socks do you wear? Do you wear regular socks or work socks that are made for steel toe shoes/boots?
I love my red wing 1412s, I have long narrow high arch feet. My feet always sweet so my boots r always damp when I take them off.
I know your not a fan of work clothing but you should do some reviews. Especially trousers and jackets
Would love to try KEEN Boots but they do not make the in a wide enough width for me! New Balance 6E width is my favorite boot right now
I got 2 pairs of Merrill, boots and shoes, boots less than 5 month old and shoes are maybe 4 months, both falling apart and uncomfortable. I drive. A truck 10+ hours aday
One thing I don’t like about boots like the Keens are the synthetic materials make make feet stink, So I usually stick to leather boots like red wing
Try Russell Moccasin. They have been making boots for 120 years. They are custom made to fit your foot. Truly a great American company.
We can never be educated enough, bring it on brother!!!
Thanks Mario, will do !
I only had one pair of keen figured give them a try compared to my carhart and danner and Carolina boots I've had my carhart and danner boots for about 3 or 4 years and the keen boots didn't last 3 weeks
