How To Overhaul Bike Bottom Bracket With One Piece Crank
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- I show how to take apart the bottom bracket of a bike with a one piece crank, clean everything, install new bearings, lube it and put it back together again. The grease I use is just a good quality automotive type grease. This bike is a GT Bullet 24 inch kids mountain bike. I got it for free, but it was very dirty and rusty. I was concerned water had gotten into the bottom bracket. But everything actually looked pretty good.

Thanks RJ. I've learned how to repack wheel bearings, coaster brakes, headset, and cranks from your videos. I've saved bikes from the garbage, fixed then up and donated to charities.
Next up is derailuers...
Very helpful! I've not done this in forty years, so I thought I'd better watch someone do it!
I'm DIY rehabbing a '74 Schwinn Suburban. Info like this is gold! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing. I found this very helpful before taking my daughter’s bike apart today.
I just overhauled my walmart bike bottom bracket, when i opened it, it was bone dry, not a drop of grease was applied by the manufacturer...... bone dry!!.......I packed it with grease massaged the BB threads, bearings and spindle, oh my.....
I like your videos man. I hope you are doing well.. take care 🚲🚵♂️
just fixed my kids 16 inch bike with this video...thanks!
Bearings are made to very exacting tolerances. So they may be worn and you couldn't tell by looking at them. They are pretty cheap though. You can replace the the bearings for just a few bucks. But can you just clean them up and reuse them? Sure. I have done that before too. As long as the cranks turn smoothly and you aren't feeling the bearings as you turn the cranks.
I'm sorry I missed where you said I had to use the axle grease from WWII. It took me the same amount of time because I kept doing it wrong and had to redo it and wipe everything three times.
Thanks for the great detail s. May the Lord Bless you with CRAZY DOUBLE Financial Favor
If you put grease on your palm and tap the bearing on the grease as you turn the bearing it's a better way to pack bearing.
Thanks 🙏 RJ ...... it seems to me that if one does not look after theses bearings the inner races get ruined as well ....
Excellent Thanks 👍🙋
muchas gracias amigo me sirvió de mucha ayuda tu video mi bicicleta tiene el mismo conjunto (Bike Bottom Bracket With One Piece Crank ) es una roatmaster gracias desde Colombia
Do you always want to replace the bearings? Or can you clean and repack the existing ones?
youre good man
So, it is one-eighth inch each bearing is measured (on a freewheel like Shimano MF-TZ21).
Awesome Tutorial, Anyway you could tell me the exact ball bearing set i need? i have same exact ones. just not sure where i can buy online.
Thanks so much
Do you always replace the bearings? Why not just clean them if they are O.K?
just wondering if i could use this as a brake for a go kart
What sizes was the bearing?
you think a one piece crank could stop a go kart ?
top speed around 50 ?
How do u remove the race on the crank with out that special tool
If I want, I can just put neither marine grease nor waterproof grease on my Shimano 7-speed (MF-TZ21) freewheel. Marine grease is my best grease of choice. Do you think so, shyflirt1? I may as well put enough marine grease on the bearings. Actually, my freewheel does have issues of its own. So does my bottom bracket. (I own a Mongoose mountain bike.)
!/8" bearings are pretty standard in freewheels. I prefer marine grease. If you are taking the freewheel apart, you kind of need the grease to hold the bearings in place. My freewheel video is more of an FYI. If the freewheel is worn, it is generally easier to replace it. You can clean and lube a freewheel..I have a video for that,, andf I recommend Phil Tenacious Oil.
1/8" bearings...Got it. You can grease the pawls, not just putting grease on the bearings.
Hi there, I was wondering what size cone wrench you used on the bottom bracket lock nut? Thanks!
PARABOLOUS Either a 32mm or a 36mm. Not sure. But I could have just as easily used a big adjustable wrench.
is there a way to upgrade the bearings to maybe a press fit bb? I am trying to use my old shimano triple road bike cranks to a bike with a one piece crank
+torkaman You need to use an adapter: ua-cam.com/video/7xTJ4ZmWmU8/v-deo.html
How do I find a replacement for the keyed washer on the non-drive side?
Try a bike shop.
would this procedure be the same for a bike that has the pedal brakes?
If it has a one piece crank, then probably yes.
RJ The Bike Guy ok awesome. where do you order replacement bearings from?
I get them at my local bike shop so they can match them.
RJ The Bike Guy ok I'm sure we have one around where I'm at. thanks for the help.
What is that wrench with the yellow handle called?
A cone wrench. But a big adjustable wrench would work as well or better.
So my bike is not a mountain bike and I need to do this, is it the same?
It's the same.
RJ The Bike Guy ok thank you
on now i see after watching this video when their is grinding it is normally because there isn't enough grease put grease on and i should be find no more grinding
Not enough grease, worn bearings, bearings clamped down too tightly can all cause that.
so I don't even need new bearings probably it could be lack of grease
so the hyper bike i have it says on amazon standard 3 piece high performance crank so will this work on it it is a hyper summit www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001VS1M20/ref=sxts1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473747520&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65
If it has square tape cranks, then yes.
are most squat tape cranks?
