    Twitch streaming will NEVER be the same! Today at CES, Nvidia helped announce a new Twitch feature called "Enhanced Broadcasting" which will allow the streamer to send their own encoding ladder of transcodes to Twitch instead of relying on Twitch's servers. This gives transcoding to streamers who aren't partnered and can help improve quality and reduce latency! Plus the changes that make this happen allow for Twitch to start leveraging HEVC and AV1 encoding and to start supporting 1440p and 4K streaming! Things are about to get WILD!
    Plus Nvidia had some announcements, too. AI stuff, RTX Remix goes into Open Beta this month. Nvidia announced 3 new GPUs: RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070ti Super, RTX 4070 Super. Nvidia announced a new GSYNC feature called "GSYNC Pulsar" which is basically Black Frame Insertion for VRR. They also announced a new Alienware monitor that does 4K at 240Hz. Madness!

    As a guy who works in the hardware industry, I have as much faith in this auto codec/resolution/bitrate tuner as in auto OC features when they were just introduced. Setting everything manually will most likely be a better solution for the next 5 years.

      @@Alex-uc7ty The non sense I wrote? You're the one trying to argue in YT comments. 😂 I just asked a simple question.. oh and by the way, can you read? "No, we will continue to provide transcode options to partners." I don't see how they're cutting costs here, it's not like partners will need to transcodes on their own now, they're just giving the options to Non-partners to have transcoding, which is 100% going to use more bandwidth on their server as well 🤦‍♂️
      I think Epos knows what he's talking about, you on the other hand don't have a clue. You clearly haven't listened carefully. He said the cap is 4-10mbps FOR NOW. They might end up increasing even more, and without AV1 at that. We aren't getting AV1 yet! So clearly they'll need more than 10mpbs for h264 streams (even h265).
      Next time keep your silly comments if you don't have anything useful to say... 😂

    Something that should be a bigger focus when talking about this is the fact that those streamer-provided NVENC 720p / 480p encodes will absolutely look better than the current Twitch transcodes, to the point that the average viewer should easily be able to tell the difference, but I'm sure we'll see that when people start testing it. Twitch's transcoding infrastructure is lagging behind current consumer HW encoders in quality, and one compression pass is always better than two.

I personally want one normal stream, for me that would be one h264 1008p (my current setup, ill prob even go back to 936p) and the better 1440p or 1008p AV1 track. Oh, NVENC HEVC as well? That's interesting - as I understood it, the push for AV1 was because it didn't require licensing that H265 / HEVC did, and why people didn't recommend streaming it to UA-cam as well IIRC. In my experience (with Plex stuff), H265 itself is a *wild* jump in efficiency over 264, and suddenly, the notion of having a ladder at 2.5-3.5mbps - when almost everything out there has a H265 decoder - sounds immediately a lot better. No more number-crunching!

    Very glad Twitch is finally taking a step forward in some capacity towards AV1. I have some questions though about the performance impact streaming multiple video feeds would have on a single pc stream setup. I am slightly disappointed that this will be a NVIDIA only feature for the time being as I am using AMD, but what's new there honestly? Hopefully that opens up to AMD and Intel at some point in the near future. I really hope that they will be able to figure this out without too much issue, it is Twitch though so I'm not going to say there won't be any issues. Either way it is good to see that they are at least trying to stay competitive with UA-cam in the viewer's quality experience. It feels like a compromise but at least it is a start.

    Yeah I don't see the hype around this, seems like Twitch just wants to offload the re-encoding to people with applicable hardware.
    Twitch already gives quality options for partnered / affiliate and otherwise low-to-mid viewership (10+) streams, I suppose the GPU encoding via AV1 would be better quality but only because Twitch has no current plans to use AV1 when re-encoding to the lower resolutions?
    If they are then this is even more niche.
    In my experience people would rather stream such low-viewership streams via Discord which has mediocre quality settings. (4K, 1080p 30/60, and 720p60 all try to use a constant bitrate of 8000Kbps, with no official option to change it)
    I know that's a different problem but Nvidia have just worked with Discord when they released AV1 streaming on Discord, also feels like this would have been a more appropriate scenario to test this technology.

    HECK YEAH! - and this is WAY more complicated than I expected (which was just that they'd switch on av1, keep the same bandwidth limits (which should be fine for 4k30 at 6mb/s). pretty cool though!) alas, it's going to take a lot of upstream bandwidth and a lot of encoder power to make this happen for creators, and i'm not sure how many people are going to have the bandwidth for consistent 6m+4m+3.5m streaming (~13.5mb/s? if it stacks up that way) given lots of people are still using cable internet with crap tier upload speeds. you also need at least 3 streams of encoder power it sounds like so you'd really need a top tier gpu like a 4080/4090. to make this happen. I happen to be in an awesome place where i have both of those things and have already signed up for the beta because i'm super curious about all this, but that's a whole lot of barriers to entry. I'm hoping we'll be able to do this all ala carte (i.e. they'll switch on av1 so we can just do av1 streams if we want, and optionally have 2-4 alternate streams to provide other bandwidths and encoding formats as few or as many as we choose so that we can tune things to our needs. i'm sure we'll have more info soon. but this news is epic!

    • @toggleton6365
      @toggleton6365 4 місяці тому

      This means that you as streamer do the encoding work on your GPU and send multiple streams to twitch. And they do the rest of the traffic to serve it to the hundreds/thousand viewers.
      Depending on the quality of your network connection, the automatic stream configuration algorithm configures OBS Studio to encode 3 separate video qualities with aggregate bitrates between 4 Mbps to 10 Mbps

  • @Ranguvar13
    @Ranguvar13 4 місяці тому +1

    I hope hardware AV1 and HEVC encoders catch up in quality to software x264 soon. You can see in your test clip, the text on the back wall is far more legible with the “inferior” format, even after YT recompression, because x264 is so well polished. I would wager even “medium” preset or possibly “fast” could still win. Of course it taxes your CPU, but I’ve still not seen AV1 that can compare for fine detail retention in relatively uniform areas.

  • @TheXev
    @TheXev 4 місяці тому +1

    I don't have an internet connection that really allows me to handle multitrack video, but I would feel better if I could stream AV1 and have Twitch transcode that instead. Even AV1 at 1080p60 3500kbps would result in a massively improved stream for my viewers, and currently I can only do that to UA-cam and not Twitch.
    I am also disappointed that Twitch is still going to be using RTMP and not SRT. My connection has huge issues with latency variance (StarLink), so SRT was resulting in a much better connection for myself in the testing I did with Castr (another restreamer service similar to restream io). I would still drop packets via SRT, but my streams latency would remain intact instead of lengthening, which is much better imo then having the stream "catch up" under RTMP.

      @@EposVox I'm asking how to edit a 4k raw video, as GPU don't support 4.2.2 10bit. But raw video is 10 bit 4.2.2

      Well raw video isn’t h264/5 so there’s no gpu acceleration at all. Raw is also not usually limited to 10-bit, usually it’s 12 or 14bit.
      But regardless, if you can’t play it back smoothly to edit you just need to generate proxies in your editor.
