Today’s high performance longbows offer a shooting experience like no other and truly bring us back to our traditional roots and quickly become very addictive!
It took me a couple of years before I worked out the differences between shooting Recurve & Longbow! I struggled because I shot both the same way, same cant, and it screwed with my form lol Now I shoot LB at a 1:30-2 o'clock cant, and Recurve at a 12:30-1 o'clock cant. Now I'm shooting much more consistent and defined my form differences for both. This video confirms the dynamics for me now!! Thanks so much Jeff for tying it all up for me! I feel more mentally relaxed to the differences now!🙏
You can get a Higher High , Through God & Archery , then any kind of drugs or alcohol can ever give you ! Amen to that Brother ! Stay Safe & Healthy ! God Bless !
A very good video, and I have to agree with you on these high tec longbows. I don't own but I have shot them, and they are about as easy as it gets. I have been competing in Traditional 3D matches this year. And where I shoot, they lump together all types of fiberglass longbows, and I quickly found out that in my case, I was at a decided disadvantage trying to compete using an ASL, like my Northern Mist Classic against guys shooting these high tec longbows, like this Orion, or Toelke or Shrew, etc. I love my ASL's, but shoot these centershot, recurve type handle, modern longbows better, and I don't even own. I might get one in the future. So, to be on more even ground, I started shooting the selfbow division, instead in 3D. The guys shooting the high tec longbows, shoot from the same stake as the recurve guys, and the high scores for the whole match, usually go to these guys shooing the high tec longbows. I shoot canted at 2 o'clock or flatter most of the time, with all of my bows. I hate shooting vertical.
I’ve taken 3 deer with C2 Passion long bow. I teach archery at my kids school. Took her up to practice one afternoon and let some of the kids shoot it….a big smile after their first shot, “ohhhh Coach I like that”! Addicted at first shot.
Hi Jeff, Im been a longbow shooter for 11 years soon. And I tried it all, with canting the bow and not canting the bow, split finger, 3 under, split vision, instinctive, and Gap shooting. And for me it works the best without canting, and a mix between Gap and instinctive, and 3 under with a Tab. Due to regulations for competing in 3D, Im only allowed to use wooden arrows, and Bamboo arrows( I use the later), and it works fantastic good. Before release I get my shoulder blades together, and Im aiming with the arrow and the tip. And the more I get use to the Gap shooting, the more instinctive I get, above is what's working very good for me, I have a lot of friends who do canting, and after some years they shoot less good, compare with me that dont can't, but that could be other reasons for that. When its time to release the arrow, Im trying to hold it one more second, just to be sure of a good shot. Thanks Jeff for your great videos. Im trying to pick up all the tips that works for me, Im very curious. I have also tried with taper arrows, in one end and in both ends, but for me there was no difference with wooden Arrows, but with Bambo they are slight thinner at the draw hand end, and that works great, even a crooked arrow works fine( not made by wood). And to lower me Gap , I use full length Arrows( started with this a year ago), and lighter in weight is even better, I use 20-21 gram shafts and 80 grain tip, they fly beautiful............
I love my custom longbow, was given it to me by a best friend, had a compound, and he showed me the advantages of shooting traditional, and so much lighter to carry in the field. I have never changed my string? Still keep it waxed up nicely, How long do they last?
I like my 3 Rivers Tamahawk..#45 Funny, I just got done shooting. Getting ready for turkey season! My go-to bow is a Sky Archery Trophy Longbow #55 it's my "Norm" or what I compare any other bow to. Bought it used in 93.
What is your website Jeff? I appreciate all the videos you have taken time to put together. I’m 53 years old and just became addicted to archery thanks to your instruction. Please consider a video talking about your history, how you got into traditional archery, the time you spent as a Bowyer, and what you’re doing now. Thanks again.
Man yea! That would be fun lol, I don’t have the website anymore since we sold the store but I’m actually hoping to have my new shop at home open for business early summer and I’ll be doing a lot of custom arrow builds and setting bows up for people and of course new bows and traditional packages 👍🏻
Thanks for the great videos , truly enjoy them. I had question regarding your hunting setups , why do you prefer 200 grain broadheads + 100 grain inserts over using a 315 grain broadhead like the grizzly?
Well you certainly can but what I’ve found with bare shaft testing is putting all the weight forward of the shaft like super heavy point causes tail high flight that’s hard to correct unlike having a longer insert inside the shaft plus the insert actually stiffens it a little but it does work with a stiffer spine than you would normally shoot, at least that’s what I’ve found just from playing with different setups lol thanks!
Hey Jeff, wanted to let you know about a new club, BAMA bowhunter hunting club. Hunting, fishing, camping and 3D shoots. it is in Maplesville. First shoot is April 6th and 7th. If you'll send me an email I'll send you the flyer. Thanks for all the great content, keep them coming.
Good video ! Im a lefty haveing some problems tuning my bow and my arrows bare shaft shooting off the shelf is everything the opposite of a right hand bow and in arrow tuning???🤔👍🇺🇸
Another great video jeff 😊i always enjoy your content...may i ask you a favor and send prayers my way for my self and my family..Thank you and God bless 🙏

Yes sir!😁
I have one of those bows coming
How do you like the Oberon from 3 Rivers? Looking awesome. Bypassed the Sanlinda
Selfbow did this for me, more so because I spent 45hrs on it , and it shoots. And survived 😅❤
I’ve taken 3 deer with C2 Passion long bow. I teach archery at my kids school. Took her up to practice one afternoon and let some of the kids shoot it….a big smile after their first shot, “ohhhh Coach I like that”! Addicted at first shot.
That’s awesome brother!
Thanks for the video Jeff I appreciate everything you've done for me thanks again
Thanks Jeff, I am always excited to see that you released another video. I am planning on going to the next ASTB shoot in April. Be safe.

Another great video! What do you think of ASL Longbows? I'm shooting a R&D 58in slick stick longbow but thinking about a ASL! Thanks again.
Goodshooting

What brand arrows are you shooting and your total arrow weight ?

Take my money 💸💸💸 yeeahaaa!!!
My longbow is less powerful than my recurve at the same poundage, it does shoot very well.

What bow are you shooting Jeff in this video?
What is easier, the one-piece longbow or the new Sanlida ILF recurve? You commented on each of them that they are easy to shoot.
Lol they both are for me but I’d have to say that the longbow is very natural and just feels good!
Good video ! Im a lefty haveing some problems tuning my bow and my arrows bare shaft shooting off the shelf is everything the opposite of a right hand bow and in arrow tuning???🤔👍🇺🇸
Yes sir exactly, at least as far as the weak or stiff left or right readings 👍🏻
Thanks !wish everyone HAPPY EASTER
Hi Jeff, do you keep both eyes open or are you closing your left eye during your shot??
Yes both eyes open 👍🏻
Hello my name is Jake Epps and would like to know your opinion on the location of string silencers on a 58 inch longbow? Fine a blessed day 🙏
Anywhere around 11-12” from the loops is good for a 58” bow 👍🏻
Just wondering what brace hight you run on the oberon ?
7 1/2” is really good 👍🏻
Cool thanks mate
Another great video jeff 😊i always enjoy your content...may i ask you a favor and send prayers my way for my self and my family..Thank you and God bless 🙏
Hi jeff , the straight or inclined longbow better?
Inclined or “canted” is much better for a longbow even if it’s just a little bit 👍🏻
Thank you jeff
Do you ever give lessons, I live in Alabama and need help! Lol
I do when I can yes sir!
