It's 2.42 am. I close my eyes while I lay here in my bed next to my beautiful wife, who is already asleep. My phone in my hand while this sultry song plays in a loop on UA-cam. Suddenly as I lay here I start to fill up with a mix of emotions. Emotions that rouse up never forgotten childhood memories of sweet nostalgia from the summers of 2002 and 2003 when cartoon network adult swim would play Big O and all of the other great and memories adult swim anime hits between 11pm and 3am, Monday night through Saturday night. I realize how grateful I am to have such a memorable childhood with shows and music like this. And how blessed I am to be alive and married where I am now. Now I fade into a deep sleep.......as the song repeats. Got to go to work in the AM. Peace and blessings.......😴
Big O always had such heartfelt music that could perfectly capture the Western styles that inspired it. It balanced a noir, investigative show with giant mechs in a surprising, magnificent way. Thanks for uploading this song, SousedMonk.
Scarf Guy Just google: Big O anime, Now the dubbed version is REALLY GOOD! But, it might take you awhile to find it and in good resolution, its worth it tho.
The Big-O soundtrack, and the Halo 3: ODST soundtrack go hand in hand. Trying to find yourself in a big, rainy city. Questioning many things, but also keeping cool, and keeping to yourself. Yeah, those are the times. Both soundtracks fit perfectly for the environments and situations.
I would played this song whenever Im crossing any NYC bridge like Manhattan, Brooklyn Bridges, and of course the G.W. Bridge. Native New Yorkers can relate to this songs. Most of the 2nd season music has NYC street names.
In a song like this, the name of the song comes from the area it was played. It was in a blues-sense; a song from the people. As a Jazz lover, this is how the people sounded, their combined souls carried a note a saxophonist just played. people paid attention because in the streets people are blinded by the smoke and horns blaring. This reflected back to how the person felt, some people are even blind to how they themselves feel. It was never paying for the music but thanking them for listening to their sorrow. Humanity goes around pretending to be happy so much we are blinded to the things that keep us human - When asked what was the name of that beautiful balled, the saxophonist packed up his equipment. What inspired him to play? he looked up at the sky and said the street name.
Whenever my depression kicks in this is one of the places my soul ends up floating too as if my mind subconsciously know or feels like it helps my soul cry due to the natural melancholy of the instrumental
Sometimes we hold on to things until we're forced to let it all go. Sometimes the world wants to hold on, long after we're gone. I like to think this song is an acknowledgement of that and that things aren't always alright. Sometimes the future doesn't look bright for those who remain. But here we are.
I bought season 1 & 2 of the big o not too long ago, cause it's nostalgic, and i could recall easily this soundtrack in particular. Always remember watching it during the summers and weekends on Adult Swim, never really understood the show back then but I remember it well.
To be honest I didn't understand the Big O when i was a little kid watching it on Toonami, but re-watching the anime now its beautiful! The characters of the show, the plot, the music, the artwork, and I have the hugest crush on dorothy lmao THIS IS A GREAT ANIME!
From what I learned about the big O it didn't do very well in Japan but the moment it came overseas in the west it was a huge success that the west commissioned sunrise studio to make a 2nd season. I'm not surprised that the big O did so well in the states given that it came out during the Era of Toonami's hype and that it had a similar aesthetic to Batman TAS which was another popular 90's show at the time.
"I don't think there actually is anyone who knows exactly what happened forty years ago. But humans are adaptable creatures. They make do and go on with life. If they're smart enough to figure out how to operate machinery and get electricity they can still have something of a civilization, even without a history. And every day, people try their hardest to do just that. The only ones who regret the loss of these memories are the city's elderly. But memories, like nightmares, sometimes come along when you least expect them."
yes thank very much for sharing one of the best anime music pieces. This is super classy. My son says it makes you want to kick back with a glass of wine.
Reminds of those late nights and or very early mornings I was fortunate enough to have the TV to myself and turned it to Adult Swim when my older brother didn't watch or was asleep. Songs like this, Cowboy Bebop's ending OST and others will always be remembered.
Nah, Alan Gabriel would be the one to dislike this. Along with Jason Beck, his two cronies, Alex Rosewater, Red Destiny annnd Sybil Rowan. I'm glad there's no eighth dislike or I'd be forced to add Schwarzwald to the list.
It was the winter of 2011. We were snowed in, enjoying the warmth of blankets & each other as we held close to one another on the couch in that dimly lit basement. With the warm glow of the TV we watched old anime together while the smoke from our lungs filled the air along with our cheer. Watching Big-O we reflected on how the characters were all wrapped up within the past, present, & future. Characters stuck in a performance on the stage of life while trying to battle for the future as they tried desperately to remember the past when all that mattered was the present; characters stuck in a performance on the stage of life, just like us. I have loved this song the moment I heard it,sucks that the big o never got to be mainstream due it's confusing ending and weird shit that happens in the story.
I didnt really follow the story of Big O much growing up, confusing to my young mind, plus i was always more into just the giant robits fighting lol But this jazzy music? Oh I will never forget that. :)
Well, the two were on Cartoon Network about the same time. Also, both starred Steve Blum, and cast Wendee Lee as a difficult woman for him to deal with. Good times, none of this isekai crap.
man I love this sountrack and the anime. I remember when I first saw this show i was in high school its one of my top anime shows of all time. is there an extended version to this if there is I would like to know.

Amen brother, amen.
Couldn't agree more.
You are right. You could switch the two soundtracks and it would make the same effect.

That’s funny because the sentence still makes sense. Roger doesn’t remember anything for a reason, and it’s his amnesia that in part defines him.
