Thankfully Sirius XM plays them on Saturday mornings at 6 am and 12 noon. Brings back memories listening to the countdown on my portable radio when I was a kid.
I would listen to Casey every weekend. 1979 feels like yesterday to me as that was the year I graduated high school. Sure it wasn’t yesterday but I still listen to so many of these songs. Thanks for posting this! Great throwback!
I miss these days a lot! I was 11 in 1979 and loved listening to AT40 with Casey. This brings back many memories! Music was great in the 70's and 80's.
I turned 18 in December of 1979. One word I use to describe the music of that year is “diverse”. It was a little bit of a multitude of musical genres. One of my favourite years of pop history. Thanks for bringing back many awesome memories for a 63 year old guy!
You just cannot comprehend what you have done for me by posting this. The incredible memories this has brought back - there are no words. Thank you so much.
It's 1979, I am a savvy four year old, turning five that summer, and I am finally associating artist names and their songs. And boy do I know the words -- maybe not the whole meaning if each tune but phonetically I am on fire! Love this countdown. Makes my childhood sound great!
I used to listen to Kasey kasem Americas Top 40 and used write it on a folder. Every Saturday on the radio. 1979 was the yr my daughter Jessica was born. . Great happy memories of my life with me, Teresa Rosado my daughter Jessica.. Thank UA-cam for the upload. . watching it 12/23/24. 8:18am.. "41 was my favorite one of all . " Gonna take a lot of love" Nicolette Carson.
This brings me back to my childhood yrs 1979 was a great yr especially in Music. & Tv shows The Dukes of Hazzard first aired January 26 1979 - February 8 1985 . I’m in my late fifties

My only task on Sundays in New Zealand was listening to Casey , I did it every Sunday for as long as I can remember . My little connection to the outside world each week 🫶🥂🍻🥃
You wish. The '60s was the greatest music decade of all time. For me personally, the '80s is the worst of them all. From best to worst '60, '70s, '50s, '90s, '80s, and the rest in no particular order.
@@maximilianovalverde6692 Yep. They kinda did the same thing to country music. Except they kept the name and changed the music to crap. About the same time. Mid- eighties. Lord, if we could only go back.
Got my first radio/tape deck for Xmas that year and still have an an old TDK cassette somewhere with Kasem reading part of that intro to Mama Can’t Buy You Love. Also Logical Song, Good Times, Heart of Glass, the top 10. Great memories. So many classics were big hits in 79.
I was 11 years old, and guarantee my ears were right at the speaker, waiting to press record on my boom box! 😂 I wish you would’ve played more than just ONE line of each song, two lines at least… hahahaha
I still listen to Casey counting down the top 40 every Sunday on Magic 96 in Birmingham, Alabama. Well, it will start up again when they stop playing Christmas music on December 26. Thank God.
When you play only a measure or 2 it leaves your listeners frustrated. I believe that you can legally play about 30 sec. of each song. ---- MRS Neil LIndsay
Maravilloso conteo, en mi país lo pasaban los domingos en la tarde, qué mejor momento para conocer los exitos de 1979, que sería la apertura de la mejor época de la musica tanto en ingles como en español, los años 80's...
I was driving slowly so I could hear #1. I was headed to church to meet with my youth group and sat in the church parking lot until My Sharona concluded. Seems like yesterday.
@@ronaldmccutcheon1329 I used to do that for many years, while listening to Howard Stern on the radio, since the 1980s. Waiting in my car, until after a segment or an interview was over Sometimes being late for work. But if you’re listening to something on UA-cam. It’s not illegal to fast forward to the end of the video.
@@ronaldmccutcheon1329 I totally don’t understand your reply. Sometimes I like to watch baseball on TV. (that makes so much sense as your reply with Gore)

It was fun going down memory lane listening to this. My only critique is that I wish the photographs used matched the original U.S. singles, especially since this is a countdown of singles popular in the U.S. during the year. Even if it meant not seeing photos of the acts but instead just a photo of the record label (since not every single release got a picture sleeve), I would have preferred that versus seeing some album covers and picture sleeves from other countries. (The one that really stuck out was Donna Summer's where the flip was "Yourney to the Centre of Your Heart."
¡Donna Summer: La Bella y Maravillosa Reina de la decada, de los años 70s! Didn't you know, between 1970 and 1991, while using the Billboard Hot 100, some year-end countdowns of AT40 were inspired by Billboard Year-End Hot 100. All those years include 1970, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1989.
After all this disco, power pop made it to the top. Album of the year has to go to Supertramp. Breakfast in America is the perfect intersection of prog and pop.
There was nothing like listening to Casey on the weekends! Good Times!👍

The songs from '78 were released late in '78 and reached their peak in'79.
