You do have a wonderful talent for storytelling. Well done once again.
Wow I had no idea Operation Benedict was a thing that happened. This is really cool
hurray for video games and lets players for giving us insights into unknown history
Neither did I, interesting story.
Oh Fantastic! I absolutely adore the Hurri. Probably the best 'Collectors Aircraft' in Great Battles if you ask me. Have you ever tried PWCG Coop?
I found it interesting that the Soviet pilots were hesitant to fly the Hurricane with its cockpit closed on takeoff / landing. I know in other aircraft like the La-5 they flew canopies open quite often. The La-5 had the fun habit of engine fumes getting into the cockpit however haha.
I suspect it was because they were former I-16 pilots and it was so cold that time of year in Murmansk that they were just delighted by the novelty of being able to close the canopy, lol. I did play with the co-op function once in Rise of Flight but was unable to get it to work at the time. I assume it's changed a bit since then!
Love both of your channels!
Can't say I have enought time to watch all of your series, however I discovered the channel throught the royal navy cold waters campaign and have got to say your narration/storytelling really sets you apart as a youtuber - the effort you put in, is very noticable and makes your videos a lot more engaging than just a 'lets play' series. Keep up the good work Dave!
Thing that let the Spitfire and Hurricane down in Soviet service was that the USSR didn't have the high octane aviation gas that the Merlin required so a few of them got shot down due to insufficient power, it took the RAF and the Soviet AF leadership up to early spring 1942 to find out about this and correct it by also sending tankers with the ferry ships with the aircraft so as to get the right octane rated fuel so as to get the performance that the Merlin was capable of, it took until late 1944 for the Soviets to finally be able to refine crude oil to the right aviation gas ratings. That was also able to happen with lend lease refining equipment being sent to the USSR in 1943. Lend Lease was a lot more than weapons being sent to the USSR it was uniforms, communications cable (telephone), even locomotives with the correct gauge axles and wheels so as to run on the Soviet RR system. But the biggest contributor and helper was probably SPAM as without it the Soviet soldiers and civilians would of probably starve to death during the war.
When converting meters into feet, you multiply by 3 and then ADD a little on top, not take away from, because 1 meter is a bit more than 3 feet, not less. (ie: 4 meters is a bit over 13 feet). So 5705 meters is 18717 feet.
Thank you, this annoyed tf out of me too xD Morale of the story, stop using ft! XD
Want to say your videos have helped me through a dark time in life thank you for the amazing stories and fun commentary
I'm only five minutes in, and I'm hooked. Thank you as always Dave :)
He’s quite the storyteller!
I have no idea what this game is about, but your story immediately hooked me in.
The Medal of Honor music already got me hyped!!!
Brings back so many damn memories...
I love the way you connect these to the real historical events with the intros and facts and such
Looking forward to the new campaign, love the historical information that you tie in with the story telling.
Commenting for the algorithm, godspeed major Wallace.
dave's about to rock you... like a hurricane.
The irony of that song being by Germans is not unnoticed
Interesting stuff, interesting review, just a few corrections. The Hurricane did fight from the start to the end of the war, continuing to support ground troops in the Far East right up to the end. The 303 was an effective weapon for the first 18 months of the war, after all the RAF was victorious in the Battle of Britain. The advantage was the sheer number of rounds you could put into the enemy, especially considering your version was the IIb with 12 mgs. Theproblem arose when the Luftwaffe unarmoured their bombers. The IIC packed one hell of a punch with 4x20mm but was slower, hence some pilots removed 2 cannon. On the canopy agree on the visibility, interesting true life story. A Spit pilot in Malta removed the canopy completely, revelling in the clearer vision with no scratches or smears on the glass. His C/O was less enthusiastic, and he ordered that the canopy be reinstalled immediately.
PS that's Guy Gibson VC in the photo in the opening sequence. He never flew single seat fighters, only doing one tour of Beaufighter night fighters.
Are you ' Taff in exile,'?
Start the video and I hear that gorgeous MoH: Frontlines theme and I got goosebumps. Beautiful score, fantastic game, fits wonderfully here. Love your LPs, especially IL2, and if you ever want to do any of those games as well I’ll be super excited to watch!
On PWCG if you don't claim a downed aircraft, it will allocate it to another team player. That is probably why Luiza managed to claim that JU 87 that crashed 10 minutes after you hit it.
Thrilled to see more IL-2 from you, and a fascinating set-up for a campaign to boot! Looking forward to more!
I love your passion for the Hurricane. Despite her shortcomings she was still a magnificent effective aircraft. I love her too. I flew her a lot in birds of prey and birds of steel and she was lovely. I came home in some shocking states of damage and shot down plenty of 109s and Macchi 202s in the Malta campaign and BoB campaign. Sweet bird 👍✌️☮️ XX
I love seeing these IL-2 playthroughs. Probably of my favorite series you upload. I can't wait to see more!
I LOVE when you do this kinda stuff man, heck yes!
Brilliant start to an interesting series! A little-known part of history that is ripe for storytelling. Looking forward to the next one!
Always love the narratives you creat with your sim csmpagains
Love the flight sim stuff, this is good watching. Looking forward to a (hopefully) long series
Very keen for this series! I was just thinking the other day an east-front campaign would be good fun!
I love how much effort you put into this video, Bravo!
Thanks Dave. Always enjoy your flight sim content.
Just found your channel by randomly seeing a EAW video in my feed, really been enjoying your mix of gameplay and storytelling!
First time on the channel.
You have some amazing narrative skills.
Looking forward for next episodes.
Good luck in the skies!
Quick comment to say I'm loving this and hope to see more! Great work :)
Can you imagine how good it would feel upgrading from an I-16 to a Hurricane? Sure they were uncomfortable with the canopy at first and the donkey did a tonne of work, but it must have been very welcome.
Nice! I-16s are my absolute fave's. Thanks SD.
I had a panic attack at 32:09. Considering there was only 4 in the flight (including Dave), but I counted 5 planes. Good thing that extra plane was friendly or that could have been very bad. Brilliant storytelling and great flying Dave. Maybe someday I'll get this game and learn to fly.
Whoo! Love to see more IL-2!
Far from the first time, the Allies soon learnt that the enemy of your enemy is not always your friend when they supplied the USSR with weapons and - after the war - quite a bit of land.
So glad to hear that the 'bounce' on landing is exaggerated in this game and not down to my novice flying! :) Great vid, thanks.
Also, this video was great, I had never heard of Operation Benedict before. Looking forward to the next episode, learning a lot.
This is excellent, can't wait to see more :)
Simply smashed it again 💯
Very nice story and mission Dave
Absolutely love MOH soundtrack reverberating throughout the dialogue great choice.
Man I swear you dont even need to play games and could just write a story from the games you play and that would he good enough for me. Your story telling in the beginning of your videos is just top tier!
Just found this. As a fellow former ACG Hurricane pilot, this is really fun to watch. Love it! -Formerly Miek, KW-M, No.615.
Looking forward to how your career goes. And yes, the battle for moscow will be brutal.
Wonderful Narration...this will be interesting.
Yay! Another IL2 campaign for me to follow
I love how you read the manual
Here's hoping Jim gets on better than Gaston.
I was just thinking about looking up your old Flight War sims. This'll be fun.
Imagine being a 109 pilot just fresh out of the Battle of Britain and the first thing you get jumped by after getting sent to the east is a HURRICANE-
I could just see the Germans thinking they're having hallucinations
4:40 I can literally picture Dave in front of me, as a middle aged gentleman, with a small pair of glasses, so far forward that he has his nose held high and eyes looking a bit down, whilst typing this.
Alright Dave, when can we expect to see your novels come out?
I'd buy 'em!
New IL-2 campaign hype!
Audiobook of you reading warstories when?
the use of the medal of honor soundtrack... beautiful
keep this one up
On the map indicators for friendlies and enemies; for me at least when playing with PWCG the map indicators only show up when you're in the big blue circles on the map which I assume indicate friendly radar coverage.
If you happen to like this sort of thing I've just finished an excellent book called First Light by Geoffrey Wellum who was an RAF pilot during WW2.
I've just started playing IL-2. May I ask a question about the flaps? At the beginning, you wanted to set 20 degree flaps, but it looks like what you actually did was set 20 percent (of maximum) flaps. I find myself constantly having to convert between degrees and percent. It feels wrong, but I'm not sure.
Ugh. I'm doing a Pat Wilson campaign in the Lagg-3. Horrible plane. Not many good options for a Russian start.
Something to mention! In this epic game called War Thunder that uses supposedly realistic damage models, the .303s on the Hurricane Mk. 2 do decent damage, especially if you chose to go with the stealth belts, which is straight AP and Incendiaries, and the tracer belt, straight AP-T, os jus fun to throw at the enemy and watch them wiggle as your pebbles rake against their airframe, i admit though, i feel like War Thunder is very much far from using decently realistic damage models, for a ‘Free Too Play’ game however its somewhat better then anything else ive found
At 32:11 it looked like you had one extra friendly with you
Did you ever open the canopy except upon landing?
In this campaign, does the Hurricane have gun upgrades?
Jerry will again learn to fear Dave
Does this game have VR. Kinda looks like you are looking around with VR.
while it likely won't effect game play, from a realistic and historical point o view, if the Germans spotted planes with RAF markings instead of soviet, they would probably understand that those are the lead planes, and also the most dangerous pilots.
Best way to kill shtuka is to kill its pilot. Its extremely defended from 6 attacks even with guns. And it has a very angry gunner who is not amused you are trying to shot him down from 6) its better to kill it in turn or from higher position
You should play Ace Combat 7 and Project Wingman, now with the DLC, Ace Combat 7 actually become a delight to play, now received a new update, I wonder if it have new planes, I ended the game, I prefer to lose the memory of the missions before playing it again, but the Shinnen II and the Nosferatu are the best planes in the game, you can literally play the whole campaign with this two planes, the vanilla experiences is horrible in Ace Combat 7.
It funny that you never try Wings of Prey, another WWII combat flight simulator, it have very hard battles, more if Simulation difficulty, the Mustangs are really hard to control, the game have only one glitch, is that the B2 are used mostly in the air and never to take off, if you try to take off with one, your landing gear would break.
x3 add a little bit
Bruh, he went on a sortie with the Soviet bombers, just because? 💀
The reason the Soviets won the battle of Moscow is because of the ridiculous amount of food and supplies and rifles and tanks we sent the Soviet Union
Why is it as soon as you set 20 degree flaps I heard Dickie/Osprey in my mind shouting "20 Degree flaps for take-off"
Lmao, he did his job well. If I live to be 90 years old I'll still remember to set 20 degrees flap for takeoff.
Hi Sorcerer Dave.
Where can we expect next episode of Dragon Age Orogins?
Cheers from Poland :)
“London born feminist”… sounds like the Brits were trying to sabotage the Soviet Union with that one amiright?!
A female pilot that isn't part of the Night Witches? Ah, right, that hasn't happened yet, needs a few more days.
Yeeees
