I dropped Bach mouthpieces 50 years ago. When Vincent sold out to Selmer, they began shutting down Mt Vernon facilities. With that they began transitioning production lines and personnel. I was playing a Mt.Vernon MLB, light weight, rose brass production date 1955. I purchased from my trumpet teacher. The first change change I noted was the mouthpieces. Original Bach mouthpieces didn't have that sharp edge. First new generation Bach mouthpiece I purchased had that edge, which lead to tinder chops! I switched around settling on a 14A4A too! Played that till I swiched to a .470 Soloist that Jerry Callet send me. Shortly thereafter he send a heavyweight double cup mouthpiece that he had cut using Parduba tooling. Still playing those todate.
The 7C debacle. I have bought a few trumpets and have a half-dozen 7C mouthpieces. In the late 1960's my band teacher let me try several mouthpieces; I have played a CONN 3 ever since but at age 72 it may be time to switch, might give this one a try.
The “bite” on the 7C is the culprit behind why so many beginning trumpet players use such a severe downstream embouchure; their posture resembles clarinet players. The downstream embouchure retracts the lower jaw and puts less pressure on the lower lip but the upper lip gets puffy and unresponsive. It’s a trumpet not a French horn!
Hi, my Holton Le Blanc, trumpet design M Ferguson has 7C in case! My lips is in bad shape ater playing so I change to other mp, today Yamaha Jazz! Will try your tips this year! Thanks, Johnny
I'm not a trumpet player, but I am a tuba player. I used a Bach 18 tuba mouthpiece for many years and recently started using Mirafone's stock mouthpiece on my Mirafone 186 4 U. I also taught instrumental music in public schools for 40 years. I think many of the trumpets had copies of the 7C, although some were Conns or Olds. In this video I never felt that I got any real reason WHY the 3E is better than the 7C. One image of the two said that the 3E was wider than the 7C, but the 7C actually looked wider. It was hard to actually compare them. There was also comment about cup depth and the sharpness of the rim. I understand that you are sold on this mouthpiece. I just wish that your video had better answered the question "why?". My Bach dates from the time Vincent Bach was the owner of his company and was making the horns and the mouthpieces. I believe that it is now part of the Selmer empire.
Is a 3c mouthpiece similar to the 3e? If not, what are the differences? I am an intermediate player (3 years) with a 3c mouthpiece, and I don't know if this will make my trumpet playing harder than the Bach 3e. Thank you.
Well, yes both 3c and 3e have the same width measurement. The 3E is more shallow providing a better experience for those wishing to play a variety of music. For those wishing to play ONLY in the staff and BELOW the staff, the 3c is just fine.
@TRUMPETSIZZLE: I use a 3C in my C trumpet and either a 3D or a 3E in my Bb trumpet. I tried a 3B in my C trumpet once and the high notes went way out of tune.

I'm planning on buying a mouthpiece from lotus trumpets if you happen to know Adam Rapa, I play on a 7c and really want to switch but perhaps I'll look into his 3E type. I also have a bach 5c so I guess I'll play the wider cup until I get a new mouthpiece (the lotus mouthpiece is about 165 so I definitely wanna invest big)
In the trombone world, large bore Bach trombones get supplied with a 6.5AL. I don't know a single player that uses one...why on earth would you want to make a large bore trombone sound like a smaller one, but without its advantages of quick response and agility?

I'm just getting back into my trumpet after many years. Guess what mouthpiece greeted me 😂. Thanks for the suggestion! (My trumpet is a bach TR300)

Couldn't hurt...
I use a CONN 5 that came with my 38b Connstellation, in 1957.
[Conn 4 cornet piece served me well for several years.]

My youtube tips won't likely help. If it did, I wouldn't be teaching lessons or selling my courses...just a thought!
Changed to a 3E in college for non jazz work. But...my go to is Schilke 14A4A with backbore. I'm at triple C often but solid Gs regularly.
Very good

The video does answer "why"...watch it a few more times

@@TRUMPETSIZZLE Sounds great. I'll definitely consider getting a Bach 3e mouthpiece and try it out as soon as I get one. Thanks, once again.
