When i made mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving this year, I didn’t have a potato ricer, so i used a big metal spoon and pushed the potatoes through the strainer, and it worked soo well. The creamiest, fluffiest mashed potatoes EVER.

Alright I followed this recipe exactly MINUS the potato ricer and it was DELICIOUS, they were a hit this Thanksgiving. Thank you so much! On another note, I followed your advice about smashing the garlic and just steeping it that way with the rest of the herbs and I gotta admit the garlic was still powerful. I CAN NOT imagine how garlicky your potatoes came out with grated garlic!

Hey Joshua - Thanks for including Metric for those of us who use it... But. 1 U.S. cup is 237 mL (or 240 mL, there is some confusion even within the U.S. standards), and 1 'Commonwealth Cup' or 'Metric Cup' is 250 mL . 1/3 cup is even weirder depending if you are in Canada (75 mL), or Australia (80 mL). Don't even get me started on Japanese cups... I assume though that you are using American 'Standard' cups - 240 mL.

Joshua! I love your recipe! From a mashed potatoes queen to a mashed potato king!
I loved the addition of cream and garlic! YUMMO!!👍 I myself prefer the ever popular Idaho potato. To make them whiter I add 2 tbsp of lemon juice while they are boiling.
I always steam them a bit over low heat after draining to get extra liquid out of the lil cooked taters ( southern slur there...lol ). I always add my milk first then softened butter. We "cream" potatoes here in the south with a old fashioned blender. Me, I mash them a tad with a hand masher while they are steaming.
This is a funny story. I was once making these to go with dinner. A guest staying at our house wandered into the kitchen while I was blending my batch of creamed potatoes. He commented asking, "What are you making? White frosting?" BEST compliment I've ever had in my mashed potatoes!!!
I taught my son how to make them. Now at his house we enjoy dinners at times with the same recipe.
Oh, I always save a tad of butter in the cup I use to soften it. When my taters are done I always put a healthy scoop of them in the butter cup. I almost groan eating that little bit.
Cream and garlic. Now those two things I may consider!

TIP: if you want extra creamy mashed potatoes, like even more than this, use a sieve or mesh strainer. It’s time consuming, but if you want to impress your family on Thanksgiving, it’s the way to go. :)

I did this to pipe mashed potatoes onto plates once. It was so smooth but I did it for a huge thanksgiving and it was too much work 😂😂😂
