strangely ive learnt more from futurecanoe than any other cook because he's way more relatable with having only half the ingredients or tools to even make a simple dish, and sometimes failing. sometimes failing and adapting is totally acceptable as the dish could still turn out ok. thank you, man. and congrats on the 1 mil subs!

We dont need to follow entire recipes because not everyone can find that ingredient due location and accesibilty is limited, you can substitute them with similar ingreidents.
Missing one or two thing only have little effect, but missing too much will kill the recipe and become either half-assed or bad recipe.

    • @rat-gang-
      @rat-gang- 4 місяці тому +9

@@MrKhalifa9000it's not necessarily that you'd start without having all the right ingredients. it's more like finding a recipe that you already have everything for, bar one ingredient. not everyone has the time or money or energy to go out to the store, solely to buy a single ingredient, y'know?
sometimes you just have to take the dive and try to adapt the recipe rather than making the same two struggle meals on repeat lol

My favorite color is midnight blue and I'm the 2nd oldest of 6 living kids and one that cancer stole from us in 2016. Honestly you're my favorite channel. I was just talking to my wife about how you're in my top two youtubers that I'd love to meet, and I realized that the other was Josh Scherer from Mythical Kitchen. My question has to be what inspired you to start cooking like you do, all these serious cheffy dishes? My mom was a professional cook and I used to help her prep stuff all the time growing up so for me it's my place of comfort even though I've never done it for my primary job. Watching you is like a return to my childhood, sitting there while she went over basics with me... I miss her so much, thanks for being so real. It's like being with a real person while we cook.

Q&A - what is a favorite dish that you’ve made? (Can be from this channel or something you made without the camera rolling)
My answer: I really like making inarizushi (yubuchobab in Korean) whenever I feel down because it reminds me of my late grandmother. It’s a nice comfort food for me as it brings back all the nostalgia from being at her house and eating her cooking. What about you? It doesn’t necessarily need to have any deep meaning-it can just be something you’re impressed with or a comfort food.

For the Q&A: Who inspires you for cooking, and what was the first dish you ever made? Also, could you share your age at that time?
For me: I watched my father cooking while growing up, and he inspired me to cook. My first dish was Butter Chicken Maggi (not an authentic dish; Maggi is an instant noodle famous in India, and I tried tossing it in a butter chicken sauce). It turned out decent, and I attempted this dish at 12 years of age.

I made the ultimate roast potatoes (#5 7:00) for christmas dinner yesterday. Everybody, including myself, were blown away by how good they are!
I didn't get quite the crunch that you had, but that's on me for re-oiling them between the intervals (totally unnecessary), and filling up the sheet too much (restricting air convection).
I haven't figured out how to balance the butter pieces on the potatoes for that extra crispiness, any tips?
Again, even with those mistakes they still turned out amazing, goes to show how solid of a recipe this is.

As for the question, what was your all time favorite meal to eat as a kid like if you ate it today it would teleport you back in time like the guy from ratatouille? My answer was and honestly still is, my grandmas green chili burritos, they are so flavorful and the salsa the meat cooks in gets perfectly thick with the shredded beef or pork (depending on the mood), topped with some el pato hot sauce. Definitely a nostalgia meal for me.

Congrats on the 1mill, absolutely deserved it!
Also please don't change! I consider you my true go-to cooking channel because of how down-to-earth you are...using improvised stuff because honestly searching for that ONE PERFECT PIECE OF INGREDIENT is a hassle (especially when cooking for one) so getting suggestions for alternatives is great, sometimes messing up a bit the cooking process but still fixing things up, more often than not having simple steps to follow...I feel like when I look at your videos I actually feel like cooking alongside you and following the recipe, rather than trying to make sense out of some virtuoso's rambling like Joshua, Babish, Ramsay or whatever....and that is even without putting into the equation your dry humor and the relaxing tone of voice.

Piece of advice for the gnocchi: you did all good imo, maybe next time cut them smaller so that it's easier to eat and puff-up less during cooking.
In Italy I prefer them baked like my granny did them: what you would do is prepare some tomato sauce in advance, preferibly smooth and without big chunks, and also cut some small cheese cubes of whatever cheese you like most. If you have a small receptacle you can make individual portions and it's cuter, but the same process applies for bigger baking trays; 1st layer tomato, boiled gnocchi (pick them little before than you would like), tomato, cheese. Rinse and repeat till you finished gnocchi and cover all with some parmesan. Bake at 180-200°C for around 10-20mins. Enjoy and let me know 🤷🏻‍♂️.
    Great job btw

It's so awesome to see you at one million subs. It's been wild seeing how quick this channel has grown throughout the year, but you absolutely deserve all of the success. Keep up the great work and please never change too much!
Q&A: You seem to know a lot of great places throughout the city, but what is one restaurant in NYC that you believe that everyone who is visiting should try to experience at least once? I've only been to NY once, but my favorite food experience from my time there last year was probably having an early dinner at the restaurant that is on the top floor of the Met Museum and overlooks part of Central Park. The food wasn't anything too crazy, but the location of the restaurant made it very memorable for me.

Please never show your face. And for the love of anything you hold holy, NEVER change. This is my favorite cooking show, and dare I say the best cooking show I've ever seen. I love to cook, but I don't have fancy gadgets, or sometimes the best ingredients, and I cannot relate to a content creator more. The love of food and culinary exploration that I experience trying new things on the fly, F*cking it up BAD, and then trying to find ways to save it, all laid out here with a genuinely funny man is the most entertaining thing I have ever watched. Like I said, never change.
FOR THE Q&A: What is your proudest culinary creation? Like something you put together all in your own head without any guidance, just inspired by the ingredients you have and the want to try something new. Mine is my gochujang Korean tacos. Pork shoulder, pressure cooked until able to be pull apart. Shred meat, and in a sauce pot heat up a mix of hoisin, a dash of liquid smoke, sweet Thai chili sauce, and as much gochujang as you like. Mix warmed and blended sauce with pork. In another bowl, mix a bag of slaw mix with lime juice, and rice wine vinegar. Chop cilantro and Jalapeno and mix with slaw mix. Let it all chill for about an hour or so. Then when ready to plate, make a pan super-hot and warm your tortilla, then slap in the pork and make sure it doesn't stick, but caramelizes the sauce. Then place pork in the tortilla, add helping of slaw mix, and top with queso fresco. The sweet/spicy/funky/smokey/salty pork with the bright and acidic slaw with the creamy queso fresco helping them blend is my go-to dish when I want to make home tacos. Plus who doesn't love caramelized crispy pork in all of its forms. Thanks man, hope you read this, and keep being you!

Q&A: When did you first find ur interest in cooking, basically what inspired you to make food related content?
My answer: For me, it was when I was about 8 years old, and watching my mom cook many delicious food also inspired me. I also loved watching cooking videos on tv and on yt, that’s why till this day I love watching people cook and love trying out new things my self. So in a way I relate and enjoy your content very much, and also congrats on 1 mil! :)

Congrats on 1 million subs!! You deserve them and so many more, I always look forward to coming home from work and seeing a new video! 🖤✨ Q: what's your most nostalgic food related memory from growing up? :3
Mine is going to my grandma's house after school and she would make us sandwiches with just white bread, ham, ketchup, and mustard. It sounds vile and I hate mustard but it meant so much to me that she always had them ready when we got off the bus that I always looked forward to it. She also had these adorable matching plates & place mats for every holiday and a gorgeous blackberry bush we used to pick blackberries off.

That surprise ricer reveal! You're the personification of "never let them know your next move". Congrats on 1M subs! 🎉
My Q&A question is, what is your favourite childhood meal, something that makes you feel nostalgic? For me, it's a stew my grandma always made with a root vegetable apparently called "rutabaga" in English. Nobody in our family has even attempted making it because we know it'll never be as good as hers 😅
EDIT: Just saw this question has been asked a lot and lots of grandmas have been mentioned.
I'll change my question to: Do you prefer cooking or baking and do you prefer eating cooked or baked goods?
Me, I prefer the act of cooking, because you get to freestyle more and it's less stressful. But I love eating baked goods and I'd live exclusively off of cake if I had to :)

I found your channel quite recently when I was looking for some ramen recipes. Did the hot oil one - very good! I actually enjoy watching your cooking content because the simplicity calms me, your voice is also calming even though I need to laugh sometimes :). On the simplicity: that's what annoys me too much with most other cooking channels - they're just too perfect. You are just the average chef who works with what he has got, just like all of us at home.
Please keep up the good work and be proud of those 1mio - you surely deserve it!
Ps: since I binge-watched all of your videos (except the very meaty ones (vegetarian here)) last weekend, I told my students and friends about you, haha.

My Q&A is... Would you ever try making Egyptian dishes? I guess it's more a request than a dish 😅 but it'd be awesome to see you experience making middle east dishes in general (. I recommend Mahshi and Koshary ) , oh and pls pls don't add gochujang to it like you did with Shakshuka 🤣

Congratulations on the 1M! You really deserved it. I tell my friends about this channel constantly and even send them links to your videos. I haven't been a subscriber for super long but I've pretty much watched everything already since I found this channel. So it also makes me happy and kind of proud to have witnessed (and continue witnessing) your growth as a content creator!
For the question, if you could choose only ONE cuisine (aside from your native one) to learn and cook for the rest of your life, what would it be? For me, it would probably be Korean *or* Mexican! Also not really a question but I'd love to see you recreate some of Shiadanni's Glam Kitchen recipes! alright, thank u

    For the Q&A:
What was the first dish that you ever cooked/inspired you to try cooking for yourself? For me it was tortellini with fried ham and a cream-cheese sauce, you can almost feel your heart exploding while eating it but I highly recommend it! Feel free to hit me up if you ever want the recipe for a video or something. :)

Congrats on 1M FutureCanoe, it has been a real treat to watch your channel grow since discovering you back in the spring. You deserve every bit of your success, I hope you give yourself a chance to soak it all in :)
Q&A: One of my very favorite of your videos is your first, telling the story about Mujadara. Not only was the making and review of the food very captivating, but as a Christian myself, learning the role this specific dish played in salvation history was absolutely fascinating, and you told it in what would become classic, hilarious FutureCanoe fashion. My question is, are you religious, yourself? And do you think you would ever do another video making and reviewing a biblical dish? Thanks for everything you do!

Hey FutureCanoe, congrats on reaching 1 million subscribers!! I was actually pretty curious on where most of your skills in cooking came from? I notice your knife skills are better than the average person, and you know quite a bit about chemistry in cooking and baking. Was this previously learned or did you research and teach yourself these things?
Unfortunately this isn't a question I can answer myself, since I hold almost no skills for either of those, but with your videos I'm thinking of following the recipes you do. I enjoy how much you show the real side of cooking, it's better knowing that I'm not the only one creating abominations in the kitchen lol.

Here's a protip to anyone trying to make potato gratin and not have it be soup:
Dry your potatoes after slicing. Paper towel or uncovered in the fridge overnight both work well. Otherwise, when you bake it, the water will just leak into the sauce.

    For Q&A:
    1. How did you come up with the name "Future Canoe"?
-I used a random username generator to come up with something for a mobile game years ago and it just stuck.
    2. What is your process for your voiceovers? Do you script, rough outline or just wing it?
    - As an aspiring VO, I've only worked with scripts (some flexible) or reciting podcast intros from memory for practice 😅
    3. Do you hope that one restaurant that disrespected your soothing voice feels dumb right now?
    -Yes.

For my question, are there any meals that you cook for yourself again and again? My mom always made this Fruited Chicken Curry for me because it was my very favorite meal, and I still enjoy cooking it for myself over and over as an adult.
