One of my favourites. They compare many plants to spinach but this one really is. Here's a tip for washing them; don't cut leaves off first but take whole plants/shoots and just rinse or dunk them like that. Also they make lots of seeds you can use in winter to sprout like alfalfa for fresh veggies.
I had wondered about the sprouting…thnx!
Great to know I can sprout the seeds! Thank you for sharing this.
Excellent tip!
We stopped growing spinach when we tried the lambs quarter. Spinach seems to bolt faster than we can use it. Lambs quarter is everywhere around us and it's free!
Some states that make money destroying our food supply with soy and corn say its destructive, and they eradicate it with poison - "Don't mess with my profits, I don't need you growing your own food and learning how to live without my super GMO crop poison - ya feel me ?
@@jasonjanes9476 and they've done a good job scaring most people away from harmless and good natural foods and meds so they can make money.
Just wanted to thank you guys SO very much for all you 're doing to educate and inform. Watching this video reminded me just how blessed I was to have a grandmother who sent me into the wild plum thickets and then showed me how to make jelly from them, who made me pick up pecans off the ground and the blisters I got from shelling them . Who knew how to find and use sassafras root in a tea when I couldn't breathe. She and my mother showed me how to identify countless plants and trees and the seasons in which to look for them. I tried to pass that knowledge on to my children and grandchildren. Just one thing you might want to include in your next foraging video, and something else Grandma always reminded me of EVERY time we went foraging: Never take more than one third of what you find in one place, patch, bush, or tree. Spread your gathering out so the FREE resource can sustain itself and make sure what you are collecting is not in the path of dirty water. Keep "doing that thing you do" :-) and God Bless!

I was inspired by this video to make this dip yesterday. My husband and I loved it! I am so inspired by you and your husband. We have just recently retired and our dreams are finally getting to come true.
Ann Addis that is so good to hear, consider yourselves lucky 👍
I live in New Mexico, and my 7th generation Hispanic friend showed me how to make this weed. In Spanish it's called CALIETES ( CAHL-LEE-TAYS) and you can buy it in Mexican grocery stores, but it grows everywhere! Just be SURE TO PICK IT FROM CLEAN SOIL, NOT BY A ROAD OR WHERE IT CAN ABSORB POLLUTION FROM RUN OFF OR POLLUTED SOIL! Here's how we make it: In a heat up some oil or bacon fat, add chopped onion, garlic, bell peppers (optional), green chilie, Saute until vegs are carmelizing , then add washed calietes, toss and cover on low for a few mins. Meanwhile cut up some leftover beef, pork or chicken and add to pan . Add a can of pinto or cowboy beans and mix gently. Add chopped fresh or dried cilantro, salt, pepper, italian herb blend, and red chili powder to taste. (start out a little at a time unless you know how much you like) Add a little extra water or broth so you have a good consistancy. Cover until heated through, serve with cooked rice or pan fried potatoes and salsa, warmed flour tortillas and green salad. Muey bueno! Omit meat, add more vegs for a vegitarian meal. Yumm!
My Mother raised me on Lambs Quarter, and I love the taste of it.
I just watched this video and headed out to the back yard, found some and cooked it up. I poured off the water into my morning tea. The leaves are like spinach and the stems have the texture of asparagus. Thank you. Can't wait to dry some for the winter months.
Awesome video! My wife and I will be picking some TODAY!!! These are the kind of video's that are priceless! Our society has lost this valuable information. Helping bring this info back is a wonderful service to society!! Great job!!!
I just love you guys so much so free-spirited one with nature and the lifestyle
These video's are always a hit with me. Wild Eat's, can't go wrong. Thanks again. Blessings.
Looks delicious thank you Stacy .💗 Doug & Stacy 💗
Thanks! I grow this for my chickens... I heard this was good for eating but didn't realize it was THAT good for you! Gonna try it in my salad today....
Stacey, your dip looks sooo good! Thank you!!
I just love your videos. Its like sitting down and learning from a good friend.
Thanks for mentioning how it effects the kidneys because of my husband. I am very excited to learn about this!!!!!
Love the foraging videos. Knowledge is freedom.
Wow! I have been pulling this up for years! The calcium really caught my attention! Thank you for this information!
I think this is the 'weed' I've been pulling by the handfuls.... guess I have to look a little closer.... love your videos!
My mom has kidney issues and not one doctor had ever said anything about spinach which she loved thanks for the info will be looking into it
I too never knew that
Neither did I and my mom has kidney issues. They said it was from Metformin that it turns out she DIDN'T even need!! They just drugged her up year after year. Only when she moved & got a new doctor did she find out. My doctor tried to put me on it, but I refuse. I'll get my nutrition under control. Devouring all your videos!!
Your videos are awesome! I know envy is a sin yet- you aren't confined in a room with men who are addicted to the news and the NCAA National Championship. You are my blessing!
Thank you so much for the foraging videos. I have not been real successful with spinach and this is so easy.
Stacy can you please do more edibles like this video please just love this. Picking some today for our lunch going to put it on our sandwiches instead of lettuce.
yes please do more on this stuff !!! hugs from michigan
I can't stop watching your videos. It's 4:30 am here in California. I must sleep so I can garden with my kids tomorrow. Love foraging and Wildcraft and all of it. All of it.
Yes, get that sleep it is important, we will be here waiting for you 🤣👍❤
@@OFFGRIDwithDOUGSTACY Round TWO, Lambs Quarter stew. Literally can’t wait to grow this near you. (Well, Boone County Arkansas…)
Love the nuggets in this video. Totally into medicinal herbs 🌿.
You mentioned Amaranth. Can you do a video on it? Can you gather the seeds from the wild varieties? I'm sure you can eat the leaves from the wild amaranth. I have some wild stuff and I'm determined to use both Amaranth and Lamb's Quarters this summer.
Lambs quarter is wonderful. Thanks for the recipe and ideas. We label it as Lawn Spinach LOL.
love my lambsquarter!! I let it grow in the garden until it starts to take over, then I thin it. and it grows better than spinach! thanks for the drying tip!!!
Thanks for this video!! I’ve been foraging “Wild Spinach” for a couple years now but I had no idea about its nutritional value!! My kids always complain about the white powder and now I can teach them about it. Thanks!!🥰🙏🏼💖
I found Lamb's Quarter instantly outside, picked some, made a delicious sour cream topping for potatoes. Thanks! P.S. I thought Stinging Nettles was one of the top super foods.
So funny how Doug is SOOOOOO quiet, as if he isn't there, and THEN THIS BIG HAND COMES OUT TO REACH FOR A CHIP!!! LMAO!!! SO FUNNY! Thanks Stacy for this education. I wasn't sure what lambs quarter looked like....now I see I just destroyed some good stuff in my garden darn it. Pooooot!...like grandma used to say.
That dip would be great to top a baked potato with! Yummy!👍❣️
Yummm...lambs quarter -good stuff!! Love the dip n thanks for sharing. You're the best 👍😚.
One plant will produce 100's of seeds for all those new to this so called Jem of a weed. I use them in salad or add them to any dish that calls for spinach. I will surely try this recipe, looks really good. Thanks for sharing the recipe Stacy!
Another identifying trait, is that the plant sheds water like a duck. You practically can't get it wet. It wilts quickly and goes limp. If you mist it and then put it right away into a sandwich bag while foraging, it will look much better when you get it home.
Thank you happy to learn from U👀👍
hello very good, thanks for sharing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
That looks incredible! It is so amazing to me, ( granted it takes very little to amaze ) but all of this edible vegetation surrounds us....the Lambs quarter looks so good and I never would have thought you could eat it! Once again many thanks to you Stacey for your wealth of knowledge and if no one has told you yet =) you have a great photographer!!God Bless both of you. See ya tomorrow.
Nice job on a very important foliage and showing some great applications!
Love lambs quarters. It grows wild in our yard.
I've seen it around but like stinging nettle I thought it was just a weed. Thank you for opening my eyes...on every video!!! God Bless and Love you guys!!
Unfortunately I do not trust the wild grown lambsquarter around my area... however, I have thought about purposely growing them. Yum!
Wow! I spotted some other good things there in your patch. You have clover and dandelion, too! What a great little wild greens patch!
Starting a dedicated patch of Lambs Quarter is on my to do list. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but I've noticed that here in Ohio with my soil conditions that LQ seems to really like the presence of lime or limestone. I've tried to get it started from seed with no luck, but it grows with no end in my limestone driveway.
HAHAHA I am laughing at myself right now. I have been chopping it down, digging it up, and trying to get it out of my garden. I had no idea this "weed" was so beneficial. Lucky some of your viewers watch my videos and said, "Hey, go check out Stacy's video on Lambs Quarter!" Adding this video to my favorites play list so I can come reference it later. :)
It would be a good idea to have a series of different plants and show how to use them. Learning about different plants and how to use them is the next phase in my homestead journey so this video was very helpful. Thanks :)
Love it. Boiling reduces some of the oxalate content.
I just discovered i got lambs quarter in my garden (east anglia, UK), so I looked up your video. Going to do some more research. Thanks Stacy once again.
OMGosh; I have this all over my acres; not in the woods but in so many places. A superfood, free for the taking!!!!
Yum! That looks so good! Definitely need to try your recipe. Thanks for all you do. Truly appreciate the extra knowledge on these wild free foods and natural medicine. Love, hugs, prayers, and blessings!!!🙏❤👍😀
That looks sooo good! We have so much Lambs Quaryer around too!🌿
I bet crab meat would be great in that dip! I was also thinking it would be delicious in chicken salad in place of mayo. ...great, it's 11:00pm and now I'm hungry! lol
I cultivate my lamb's quarters too. I can, freeze and dehydrate. Incredible food. I can't live without it. Thanks for your incredible life and sharing.
Hi Stacey. I've been letting this grow in my community garden plot. I've eaten bits and it's tasty but always makes me feel a little queasy. Today I put 2 big handfuls into a smoothie with blueberries, watermelon, and almond milk and drank it quick. Started feeling bad right away and within 30 min threw up the whole thing. Have you ever heard of anyone being sensitive to lambs quarter? I'm sure it's lambs quarter and not nightshade.
Very rare, but some people are allergic to it. You might be sensitive to the oxalates. Try frying, steaming, or boiling as this will reduce the oxalates. Hope this helps.
Trinhz Photography thank you. That does make sense.
Lamb's quarter is also good in an omelet.
And also great in a 100% plant-based meal without eggs from poor birds that have been bred for centuries to live a stressful life where they lay far more eggs than a wild bird ever would and die much younger as a result.
Tried some Lambs quarter with scrambled eggs, tasted pretty good. Thanks for the new idea.
I was thinking this would probably be good fixed like polk salad. A little bacon grease and scramble an egg or two in it.
My rabbits help it grow and they love eating it... I've had it grow over my head b4.... Lots of nutrition... We do get a bug that grows inside the older leaves so we pick and eat the tops...
It's so cute when Stacy gets tongue tied! 8D xoxo
One of my favs showing people one of my favs!! Thanks for spreading valuable knowledge :)
I have served my family lambs quarter sautéed in butter. But I didn't know all parts of the plant are edible.
Thanks for the dip recipe. 😋
Definitely gonna try this dip and start using lamp quarters for my spinach quiche that everyone loves.
the dip looks good thank you for the information
I'm going out to pick some lamb's quarter right now! That sounds delicious.
Now I have to look around and see I can find them where I live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Thanks you guys fir sharing your wealth (knowledge) 🤗
I can imagine you, Stacy, in a mafia voice, "Whatever. Whatever. Whatever." While you are cooking. :)
🤣 It’s that Chicago comin through. Fugettaboutit
this is grate! On my land we don't have any but we were going to order some and but we had other seeds ordered to and the lambs quarter seed where a lot and did have enough money. so this month we will get them and plant them
Oh, And happy Mothers day from me and my wife
Thanks for making this Stacy! is looks yummy! blessings, LeXze
I just eat it raw as I go along. Extremely tasty and zero bitterness even in its raw state, delicious.
Never knew this about this plant. We have a little of it here due to the dry climate. But I will harvest it this summer for sure!!
Thanks for the great video❤
Love these videos! I have these growing everywhere on my property even in front of my house. I will have to try them.
So many people have never heard of this. Coming from a poor family, was a stable in our diet.
It look so good we have got to go look around the property to see if we can find some. Thanks for the tips.
what is up UA-cam..I want to save and like my favorite show off grid with Doug and Stacy....
Wow. I think this is what is growing all in my landscaping. I just keep pulling it up and throwing it out. Who knew? Thanks for the info. And I love the pottery bowl that you are mixing that in.
yup, deer love it as well
Happy Mothers Day. :)
Round TWO! I got my lambs quarter seeds ready woo!
Glad I saw this. I was thinking about some ground cover around some stuff in my yard and this is perfect. Thanks.
I never heard of lambsquarter and I didn’t think of dehydrating spinach or anything think like that for future use ! Thank you!!
Great video! Going to go foraging today and look for some! And I LOVE that shirt Stacy- I need one!
I can't tell you how much of this stuff I've either ripped out or ignored over the years (that includes queen Anne's lace that also grows on my property). thanks for pointing out resources I didn't know I had.
I had some volunteer plants come up in my garden this year. Thanks for sharing some of its uses.
I've got this growing all over my yard but my husband is afraid i'm going to poison him, LOL.
Your camera man is very hungry, love your sassy dip I will make some for sure. Be safe out there.
I think I just pulled up handfuls of this, here in our backyard in France. I had a sneaking suspicion it was lamb's quarter, but wasn't yet ready to get serious about using it (so tossed it at the foot of our mulberry tree, for mulching! I'm going back out today, to find more. Thank you, Stacy! New subscriber.
Thank you for the lesson about lamb's quarter and for the yummy recipe! I had always known this as wild spinach but didn't know it was the same as lamb's quarter. I also didn't really know how to use it. Now I do. Thank you for all you share with us!
Awesome! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this plant (maybe without knowing it I have 😄)
Great information! Thank you! It grows in abundance here, I'm going to go pick some!
I did a patch this spring and its almost 10 ft......i love it
I was sitting here watching this food get made and I was wondering if the camera man was getting hungery also. Than lo and behold a hand comes out from behide that camera reaching for the food. I see Doug was getting hunger too LOL.
Hi...... 🏡🎥👍👍👍
Great info thanks for sharing.
Hi from Canada. My spinach also bolts very quickly. I will definitely be gathering lambs quarters because I love spinach and I'd these are as good as you say, I will be canning them for winter
I love foraging. They call me "the weed lady".
Love your recipies!
Mmm. Yummy ol' goose foot!
I’m soo happy that you informed us about lambs quarters!!!i just thought it was a weed!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! Every time I see it growing in our garden here in Kentucky, I leave it!! Again thank you!!!
A lot of common "weeds" are actually food plants brought by colonists. Dandelion, plantain, lambsquarters, purslane, etc.
I'm getting ready for bed and you are making me so hungry....lol
Really informative video. Would love to see more of foraging for wild food with close-ups for proper identification. Thanks so much, Stacy!
