  • I've had this 2006 Jaguar XJ R for a little over 2 years and there's lots to like about it. Here are some things I really like about the car. I have nicknamed the car DRAGUAR after the popular Roadkill car.
    1) Styling - I get lots of compliments on the car and it appeals to me
    2) Aluminum body - will not rust, it will outlast any steel car
    3) Quiet interior - this car is so quiet inside
    4) Build quality & craftsmanship - the quality and care put into creating this car is obvious
    5) Air suspension - this gives the car an awesome ride on the highway
    6) Front park sensors - it's kind of a big car so it's very nice to have front parking aid sensors
    7) Stereo - the car has a 12 speaker Alpine audio system with subwoofers from the factory. It sounds really great
    8) V8 - this car has a 400 horsepower supercharged V8 engine, it has so much power

      Not only is it very nice to look at I can't help noticing how beautifully it rides. I live and work in London England and will always spot the XJ350 and admire the unflustered and smooth way it moves.

    We expect the Italians and French to have style, but the Brits have produced some of the most stylish, classy and sexy cars of all time. The Jag is so distinctive and recognisable - just beautiful.

      Love the XJ's, right from the late sixties, through to the series 3 model..,but this XJ combines and improves on all the aesthetics of the earlier versions from every angle.
      It is a masterpiece of design and is so pleasing on the eye...
      I do like the latest version also...

      @Matt Frazier Exactly. it's the perfect Jaguar. Many Jaguar experts and afficianados say the 2004-7 XJ8/L/R/Super V8s are EASILY the best XJs ever... and will last and become classics. Superb, timeless looks and a BLAST to drive!

    I’ve been looking at some 2006-2008 XJs, especially the Vanden Plas. They’re just beautiful cars. I’m not even into cars and when I first saw a 2008 XJ VP I fell in love.

    • @InternetDude

      All of the XJs are very similar overall, 2 engines, 2 lengths, a few different options. They certainly are beautiful cars, especially compared to 99% of new vehicles even.

    Love my 2007 XJR in charcoal black with 20”Callisto rims, side power vents, black leather, aluminum interior instead of normal wood. Car was originally from Canada with kilometers speedometer. 4.2 v8 supercharged. Should listen to the supercharger whine when it comes on! Sounds like airplane taking off! Air ride suspension! Lots of admirations.

    I purchased my 2004 XJR Brand new in May 2004. I got a lot of compliments on mine too. My car was silver with dove interior. I put 10k on it during the first month I owned it. I lost her in hurricane Wilma in 2005. The brake rotors were the only weak spot.

    • @InternetDude
      @InternetDude  5 років тому +1

      I do like the dove interior too! I haven’t had any brake problems. These cars are sure special in my opinion.

    • @BIGDAVE5352
      @BIGDAVE5352 5 років тому +1

      I definitely like this body style over the current one. I drove my XJ hard. That is why the rotors would warp. Warping brake rotors was an industry wide issue with all manufacturers during the late i0’s and early 2000’s. This car was a technological revolution for that time. The X350 is my favorite. The current XJ actually shares the X350 platform.

    • @InternetDude
      @InternetDude  5 років тому

      I heard on the XJR they switched away from Brembo for the brakes in ‘06, maybe that’s why. Mine do not have the Brembo logo like 04-05 XJRs.

    • @BIGDAVE5352
      @BIGDAVE5352 5 років тому +2

      InternetDude I believe that is the reason. The Brembo brakes faded very quickly when pushed hard. 2006 the upgraded the front brakes. The size of the rotors were increased and they were thicker. That addressed the fading and warping issue. I find the rear end of these cars is very attractive. I like how it narrows and the LED lights. Very classy.

    Great Car! I bought a 2005 Super V8 with only 50,000 miles just six mos. ago. I had to drop a bootload on her right out of the gate as most of the bushings and control arm etc. needed r&r so now I am$15,000 in it but I don't even care. I was in a Town Car till now but I will never be the same..I love my Jag so much I nearly proposed! The car really has cat like qualities I mean it has a growl very big cat like, it can pounce better then most and it purrs at all time always landing on it's very costly feet they put a spell on these cars and it gets to your blood.my God I need help! LMMFAO! Cheers!

      I can't remember if I mentioned in the video but my car has approx 53,000 miles. There is no comparison IMHO between a Jag and a Town Car. Night and day difference in so many ways, as you know. The best thing for you to do is I'd say buy another one ;-)

    Bought ‘06 XJ Super V8 new. Same engine as the XJR but 5 more inches of legroom for the rear passengers plus picnic trays. Because it’s aluminum those 5 inches didn’t add much weight. Car really held the twisties. Because of that plus being beautiful inside and out, every time in it was an occasion. Put 160,000 miles on it over 9 years. And I still miss it.

    Thanks for the video. I recently acquired a 2003 Vanden Plas Super V8 (supercharged). The interior is beautiful and the exterior has beautiful classic lines. I replaced all four CAT shocks, new slotted brakes up front and the front sway bar linkage. Luckily, I can do the work myself.
    As you mentioned, people take notice of the car. With the smaller tires, it rides quite nice yet it takes corners superbly. With 370 HP, It is a bit thirsty on gas, but like you, I only take it out occasionally. I found out my car sold for over 90K new. I acquired it for 2.7 K. These cars are under appreciated and undervalued. They are going up in value a bit. Your car is beautiful. Thanks for your video.

      @@cgrinna Right on- I am an american but moved to the UK so they're a lot more common over here and you can find a 2004 XJ8 4.2L with the naturally aspirated or even supercharged with around 60K miles for less than $10,000.
      It was a funny thing to move over here and look at the used car market- because it's a small island cars with 80K miles are considered high-mileage vehicles. People also take much better care of their cars over here because they have to pass the MOT every year which makes sure the car is road-worthy. In the US it was just emissions, I had a mazda when I was 19 with a window missing that had been in a side collision and it was still legal to drive.
      I heard the Jags can have suspension issues and the sensors for the air suspension are really sensitive, but the engines are supposed to be really reliable and they are so beautiful inside and out. Really looking forward to one of these or maybe a Lexus LS430, probably a Jag as they look much nicer.

The wood and leather are one of my favorite parts of this car. It never gets old. I did a painting the size of the nav screen of alpine background taken out of world 6 from Mario 3 all stars game. I wanted one since the x350 body came into scene. They are truly beautiful cars, just wish the handles were solid chrome like on my old jags. I have the xj8, in gun metal grey with aftermarket 20" wheels and low profiles which actually hurt the ride. Ive had a few small problems, nothing too serious but air suspension problems are common on all air shock cars of this era. The stock stereo isnt that great when compared to my audi or even my volvo with bose. Nav is outdated, useless and the screen likes to go wonky (mine did) , and headlight flicker is also a common problem caused by bad grounds or the ballast. Just my two cents , I love mine in-spite of things ive had to correct.

      Things I do like -- the body style, the beautiful interior which is akin to a Bentley, the quality of most components , gas mileage isn't that bad for a v8, power is adequate, and the interior is very quiet. Almost feels like a vault when you close the doors and sound is heavily reduced. I also like the trunk and rear seat size for passengers is awesome -- plenty of leg room. The car is heavy, and suits highway cruising perfectly. @@InternetDude

      I did hear about that on the Jag forum. Fortunately aluminum corrosion (not technically rust) doesn't spread nearly as fast as steel rust. Have you considered an oil based rustproofing product such as Fluid Film? Maybe that would help you keep the car longer?? I know it works for metal rust, not sure about aluminum corrosion.

    When a car owner lives in the North east or some other coastal climate where salt is used in the winter the aluminum body is a saviour against rust.

      Definitely, where I live rust destroys many metal cars all the time.

    Owning so many cars really nullifies any help to the earth that electric cars may do. I love this Jaguar though, Sell the Pretentious Tesla's and buy more Jags!

      I didn't show it but in front of the shifter there is a door that opens up, you could maybe fit it there in the ashtray area. Personally I would put the wallet in the door pocket (although I use a minimalist wallet). The center console lid slides back to reveal 2 cupholders which are also an option.

    I know I'll probably get shit for this but I don't really like the face of it all that much. It's just a bit too smooth and bubbly in my opinion. I personally own a 1989 XJ12 sovereign in metallic green which still has really big perfectly round double headlights that allow the hood and fenders to curve around them giving it an even more muscular and slim look and that's what I'm kind of missing here.
    Please excuse my english, it's not my first language!

    That's probably the most understated design V8 and the front looks exactly like the crappy X type. I think you call cars like that "sleepers" in the US. I dunno why you even mention Tesla in that video and apart from the things you like which are obvious it's a good idea to talk about the common issues like intermittent parking sensor failure, CD changer not working, rust bubbles under the paint and inevitable failure of the air suspension pump which needs front bumper removal in order to be replaced. Anyway, here in the UK nobody cares about the X350 which is a shame really but it's never gonna be a classic as the last proper Jag which is the X308.
