Wow what a beautiful show of the 2001 Vander Plas. It is SO hard to find anyone out there who still appreciates the finer things in life. I have a 2012, and as you know it looks almost EXACTLY the same. I grew up with Jaguar, my father owned the ONLY English car repair shop in Marin County (just on the other side of the GG Bridge). He was from England and loved his British cars. I grew up appreciating all the wood, fine leather, and of course the jokes. Now as an adult, I just cannot STAND the new cars out there. They ALL LOOK the SAME. Even Jaguar looks ridiculous in 2023! Okay my question for you is, I’m looking for a white Jaguar XJ8 and was wondering why they all seem to sell in or around 95,000 miles?
NO No No. Jaguar (jag you are) bought the company From BSA in 1960. Vanden Plas | Autopedia | Fandomautomobile.fandom.com › wiki › Vanden_Plas During World War I the company became involved in aircraft production and was bought by the Aircraft Manufacturing Company based at Hendon, London which became BSA. So after being a British company for over 80 years, most of its existence, Vs only 60 years in the greater Belgian area the proper pronunciation is that of the toffs or upper class of WWI and just after in Great Britian. That Pronunciation is Vahnden Plah. It is not a Flemish or Dutch company! "Vahnden Plah" End of discussion.
Nice video. Nice car. I agree with you on the Jaguar logo on the steering wheel. That XJ is a classy car so I am not sure why Jaguar used that silly looking logo.
Very true actually, the Vanden Plas nameplate was inherited by Jaguar from Austin Rover when it was owned by British Leyland, the reason they used the Vanden Plas nameplate in the US was because Mercedes had already taken out a trademark on the Daimler nameplate in North America
The key can open the trunk even when the battery is dead; there is a key hole right by the Vanden Plas badge. It went dead on me once, but I opened it just fine. Put a quick disconnect on the battery, so no more issues as it sits there quietly waiting to pounce on the road once in a long while.
Damn good to hear ya bill. You been miA! I like that lx470 u got up front. All LXs deserve a video people are jumping out of windows and off balconies to get their hands on one!
As the owner of a 2001 Lincoln Town Car, I see a 2001 Ford product here, which is exactly what it really is (Ford bought Jaguar in about 1986). And that's a good thing in a lot of ways. It's more 'upscale' than my Lincoln in its engineering, content, and cosmetic detailing. But it's obvious to me that they came from the same manufacturer. It even sounds a lot like my Lincoln. The Jaguar chassis department actually helped tune the Ford 'Panther' platform cars (Town Car, Marquis, and Crown Vic), when they were re-engineered for 1998. The Panther is a simpler, beefier car for a number of reasons. It uses body-on-frame construction, with a live rear axle, like a Ford pickup truck. The engine, gearbox, and rear axle are essentially identical to those found in a 2001 F-150. Fortunately, the Lincoln does not feel truck-like! But it does feel like the old-school American car that it is. The Jags are built on a completely different, unit-body, all-independent suspension platform. But, if they offer anywhere near the Lexus-level durability and reliability of the legendary Panthers (500,000 miles is not uncommon), they are well worth considering, even as older used cars.
They really made the newer (2000+) Jaguars look much cheaper - the inside is all blown vinyl buttons and puffy leather/vinyl steering wheel and dashboard - the interior looks like that giant puffy coat George wore in Seinfeld.
British Daimler is related to the German Daimler - A Mr. Simms in Coventry was friends with Gottlieb Daimler and formed the Daimler Motor Company of England in 1895 to acquire all of Gottlieb Daimler's patents and sell Daimler engines and automobiles with Daimler engines in England.
