    That car look gorgeous. Stop complaining and appreciate it for what it really is. A limousine that can take on sports cars AND do 500 mile trips without any fatigue. Jaguars are more than numbers and features. They are nothing like just another car. Very special indeed.

      This was a video to offset his likes about the car. He sold it, so I guess it doesn't matter, still, it is nice to have some videos of the X350 XJR's.

    Stop equating tech with luxury. This era of Jag is one if the last modern cars to have quality interior represent luxury. That's why I bought one. It's so sad now that to be luxury you have to have tech. I disagree with that philosophy.

    You compare a twelve years old car with cars from the last couple of years?
    Wow! That makes sense.
    The seats are too hard and the profile on the tyres are too low. On a European sports car?
    Maybe a Buick would be a better choise for you?

      Couldn't agree more. Maybe he needs a Toyota Camry instead. Sounds like it's more his speed. Talks about outdated tech on a 13 year old car? Are you serious? Stick to your fancy self driving car, you aren't a car guy.

      Quite. That nav system was one of the very best around when it came out in late 2002. No backup camera in a car launched in 2002 in the UK and 2003 in the US??

    It's better looking than 99% of all the cars on the road!

      The paint can sometimes bubble and the air suspension can need work but each time you jump in you are royalty

    • @InternetDude
      @InternetDude  5 років тому +1

      I have heard about that paint corrosion bubbling but have not seen it first hand. It is still minor compared to regular rust from pics I've seen on Jag forums. Regular rust will structurally destroy cars and make them unsafe. This aluminum corrosion spreads so slowly in comparison and is cosmetic from what I've seen.

    • @hyperwebbing
      @hyperwebbing 2 роки тому

      @@Numistacker the paint should never bubble unless someone has you some kind of chemical electrolysis process on it or they repainted a part of the car and maybe some part was replaced or repaired and where the different types of metals come together didn't do it right. Some bubbling might occur if you are in a place that uses a lot of sodium compounds on the roadways and got on the and the multiplier effect and then nobody care to wash it off. Any suspension issue can be made better than OEM fraction of the cost even a partial OEM RNR. Best part is that the aftermarket I'll call it upgrade complete mechanical suspension should be worry-free for the next 10 to 20 years 10 if you like to do things so it's maintained 20 if you like the push it till it's causing other issues around the car but yeah it's still works

      InternetDude And at the time the car magazines were incessantly ragging on Jaguar for looking old fashioned, even though the XJR and Super V8 would run rings around the competition. I had a 06 Super V8. Put 160,000 miles on the car. I think the 2010 redesign took away a big reason to be a Jag owner. It's too homogenized now. Too generic. But at least the car magazines approve. Sort of.

    As a 2006 vehicle...even a moderately higher end one such as this just didn't have the tech that we have now become so accustomed to. This car I feel falls into the 'classic luxury car' classification and will begin to appreciate as time progresses - helped by being lower tech and non restored (leave the car exactly as is). Keep it in the 'stable' and drive it a few kilometres on the occasional sunny Sunday afternoon. I wouldn't be too concerned about not having a back up camera or an auxiliary port...just put in your favourite CD...go for spirited ride and chill. 😎

    • @InternetDude
      @InternetDude  6 років тому

      Yeah I suppose I should just consider it as a classic ;-) For the past 2 years it has just been an occasional driver. I've put on about 7,000 km in 2 years, not sure if I mentioned that in the video. I've put on probably less than 500km this year though.

    I have an '07 XJR - tremendously good sports sedan- same color scheme as the one shown (jag racing green over biscuit). A genuine head turner - people love this car.
    And, it really is a fine traveling companion; fast and comfortable. The smooth 400+ HP supercharged V8 in an all aluminum sedan weighing less than 4000 lbs makes it sneaky quick.
    The video presenter is quite right about XJR's open differential rear end. It really needs limited slip. I go through rear pads (and discs) pretty quickly, as the traction control system brakes the spinning wheel. And, this is while driving fairly moderately.
    In terms of tech, the XJR was updated in late '06 (USA) to the X356 model (which was superceded in '08 by an ill advised facelift - the X358 - which was retired in '09). Car in the video is an early '06 ("04 - '06 is X350). The X356 was a bit more up to date (eg, excellent adaptive cruise control, so-so bluetoooth, same lousy DVD nav). Lots of other improvements; more power, etc with X356 - its the unicorn, and the best of the classic Jag XJR's

  • @abolishwelfare
    @abolishwelfare 5 років тому +13

    I have an 03 XJR from preceding X308 platform and my brother has an 05 XJR X350 like yours. The X308 is smaller and more nimble, if a heavy luxury saloon can be considered nimble. My car, while rated twenty HP lower than my brother’s is just a smidge quicker. I’ve owned my XJR for over ten years now. I’ve seen a horrendous rate of depreciation, however I’ve enjoyed every one of the 140,000+ miles I’ve logged in it. These cars still turn heads and elicit questions from the curious. They also make for a good gran tourer on long road trips.
    One thing about Jaguars, most casual observers have no clue as to the year, or value of the car. Most assume these cars retain far more value than they actually do.

      Your brothers car is broken if it is slower and handles worse than an X308. The X350 is lighter, 30bhp more powerful, with a more sophisticated suspension setup. 2006 onwards XJRs (round side repeaters and no rubbing strips) got VVT to remove the slight softness off the line, which made them even better. It's a far better car in every way than an X308, but arguably not as good a Jaguar.

    Most of the dislikes relate to lack of tech which wasn’t really used when the car was built. I’m glad to and enjoy putting my key in the ignition and turning it. It’s one of the many many things that make this car a classic. It has character. It’s old school. Which is why I purchased mine. Modern day cars have all the gadgets but are bland in comparison and will never ooze character like the XJR has in abundance!

Stop complaining 90% of cars didn't have parking sensors back up sensors adaptive cruise front and rear heated seats adjustable pedals back in the 2000s. There are cars in 2019 that don't have that. Be grateful for what u got.

    I have a super 8, which is the long wheel base with the same engine as yours but with sovereign extras. I love it but agree about the wheels, which are the same as yours. The seats are super plush though so was interested to hear yours aren't. As for traction control... I just switch it off if I want to have fun, which isn't often because I worry about loosing it on corners. As for the ols skool tech.. It doesn't bother me, it has more than enough to make me happy. Thanks for sharing, I enjoy your videos.

    • @dianevrules
      @dianevrules 5 років тому

      Jaroslav Záruba Yep! Night Vision was in Cadillac Deville in 2000. Push button start and remote start were in Cadillac STS in 2005. DVD-based navigation (that allowed you to play DVDs while the car was in park) was in Cadillac in Deville and Seville 2002. CD changer was conveniently located in the armrest of Lincoln Continental in 1995 and in Cadillac Seville in 1998. Mirror signals were in Cadillac Deville in 2000 and Lincoln Mark VIII in 1997. XJ8 is a nice looking car. But Ford was behind with a lot of technology for their Jaguar. Base model XJ8 retailed for more than all those cars. It shouldve had every last one of those features and more.

    So Ive been fortunate to own 13 Jags but 2 of the X350 bodystyles. One was an 05 XJ, great car, all the things you like except the 400hp engine but had tall tires, 19inch rims and that classic Jaguar smooth ride. I also still currently have an 06 XJR... with the same wheels. While yes, it rides a lot stiffer then the stock XJ, its NOT a stock car its an R type and with that comes the nicer larger engine but also on my mine those optional wheels which I wouldn't change for a thing. I live in a town of 300,000 with the surrounding cities totaling over 4 million people and I have yet to see XJR identical to mine. I own it because its different, I drive it because its fun and while it doesn't have the backup cam, usb port or soft ride my wifes 2016 has I still prefer to drive mine over hers.

    working in a garage mainly doing MOT tests ( yearly vehicle roadworthiness test) you dont want keyless entry as cars get older, a good old fashioned key will last longer and cost less , i`m not a lover of modern Electronic handbrakes either . for the MOT the handbrake is classed as a secondary emergency brake , electric "parking" brakes cant be used if the car is moving , so it`s a bit of a grey area as i think technically if the Ministry Of Transport calls it "secondary emergency brake" it should fail the test for not having one . puls they are a pain in the ass to put new shoes is and they need to be hooked up to expensive equipment to rewind on a lot of cars. Plus you cant do handbrake turns lol

    Drive a well sorted V12 series 3. Bugger all tech in there. That will show you how totally pointless tech is in ANY car; it will show what a luxury saloon is really supposed to be. All manufacturers have lost the plot with regard to sports saloons since the demise of the series 3 XJ. They ALL need to drive them to re-educate themselves concerning some of the truly important ingredients that they left behind. “The most elegant four door saloon ever made,” Jeremy Clarkson.

      Let me tell you I have a Lexus LS500 now (2018 model) and the Jag is gone. You are right about that, it's no longer a luxury car, it's a sporty luxury-ish car. Every automaker seems to have gone the sporty route for luxury saloons.

    1. Didn't know about this. Now that I know, I don't care.
    2. I'm pretty sure an XJ8 or Vanden Plas owner will trade their 1 piece 17" or 18" wheels for your 2 piece 20" Sepang wheels. Trade someone and you will have more sidewall. SMMFH.
    3. I don't like R seats because they are PERFORMANCE seats. I prefer either base model, Vanden Plas, or Super V8. All of which come with luxury seats with perforated inserts. You wouldve been better off getting a Super V8.
    4. The fob is a "keyless entry." Push unlock button on fob and open the damn door. I guess you mean "smart entry." When you approach car with fob nearby, the car detects it and automatically unlocks door. Well, this technology wasnt even available in the 00s.
    5. Cadillac had remote start and push button start in their 2005 STS. Ford was behind with that technology
    6. Ford was behind with that technology. You can install an aftermarket auxiliary to factory unit. Search youtube. You will lose control for CD magazine
    7. You can install an aftermarket camera. Search youtube
    8. Cadillac put a DVD base navigation in their 2002 Seville and Deville that is still great, with exception of old DVD map. Ford was behind with that technology.
    If I had your exact XJR, the only two issues that I would have with it are the two missing options:
    Warm Climate Package, which includes manual rear side sunblinds and 4 zone rear a/c
    Multimedia Entertainment Package, which includes DVD player in trunk, video screens in rear headrests, and audio/video jacks for multimedia sources.
    However, if I bought an XJ8, I would definitely get a Super V8 with those options.

    Hello , I enjoyed your video as simply I enjoy all things Jaguar . . . .well except Lucas electronics and the ' coated ' engine sleeves up to mid year 2001 model engines . I have had two 2001 Vanden Plas and my current 2006 XJR as in the video but in Black .I agree on all aspects of your video except the data port as it's not something I'd use if it was available . The ride of this car is that of a sport luxury sedan more than a luxury sedan . The tires as low profile components do allow this car even with the new aluminium upgrades for weight reduction and still tipping the scales to the heavy side for performance or as a true luxury car . They are critical a component to get the potential out of the cars ' sport ' side . But I am more of a critic of the ride due to computer controlled suspension and lack of travel or adjustment to modify the ride easily more than the profile of the tire affecting ' ride ' . Both previous cars put this car to shame in the comfort department and it has little too do with the tires . The seats . . . . .being used to the Vanden Plas seats there was no comparison . Again for support while in the 'sport ' realm of this cars potential if pushing those boundaries you're thankful of that support . I'll sacrifice those menial things or replace the components if they really bother me. I bought this car used from a private party . He didn't want to get rid of it as he said it is better than new . Literally . But he'd just taken delivery of his new Bentley , and four cars just didn't fit in his garage . An Audi R8 , a Jaguar XKR , and last but not least the new Bentley sedan . . . . . The reason he bought the car I have now is it was a sedan and he knew the owner a ' certified ' Jaguar technician . Who he described as ' anal but in the truest sense in a good way ' He said the fellow if he detected a weathering or distortion of a bushing he replaced them all . Of course with superior components , even to the wheels which are still Jaguar and twenty inch are a special ordered from England a superior ' competition ' upgrade in black to match the color of the car .,. . . . . The supercharger has been removed and upgraded by porting etc. The pulleys have been replaced top and bottom , the complete drive train was removed and enhanced including the differential is now a posi unit . He went on to tell me all was to increase the performance without or actually increasing the reliability of the vehicle . He said this is why he purchased the vehicle and his refering to the fellow as anal . Another example he'd given me was after the modifications he was worried about the computer flashing and mechanical upgrades on the 4.2 liter V8 could cause the heads to shift and create head gasket failure . ( A known weakness if modified to limit ) So he removed the engine and had the assembly sent out to ' bolster ' the head pinnings and securement components to prevent that from happening . . . . .I didn't really believe him until I'd driven the car and was told all receipts were available . I had test droving two XJR's while shopping to replace the Vanden Plas . Not even remotely the same performance between the other two XJR's and this car . I purchased it with 32,000 miles on the odometer . It now has 91,000 registered and the only problem I have had is an alternator failure never stopped but developed a ' noise ' . This after spanking a new Camaro on the interstate at his top speed which was closer to two hundred than one fifty over some distance . No , I personally have no complaints about this car or the other two previous Jaguars of Lyons design ( If I could repeat my purchase of those previous Jags I'd own another without hesitation . I bought both wrecked from the insurance company in hope of finding another of he same . ) both responsible for saving my life . No not from speed I was sitting still both times . Something the video doesn't reflect is the safety ratings of these cars . How do you put a price on that ? My only regret of owning these cares ? If any I would have to say the loss of them by accident or time/mileage . Sorry about the book . Be well .

      Well stated! Very good information . I'm in the process of deciding between a 04 XJR 120k miles Black with light cream interior. pretty much excellent condition at a steal of a price. But the front air suspension has failed. And I believe the owner doesn't want to invest in fixing it. He said everything else is in very good condition. Interior, engine etc. He also stated he did some front suspension work . bushings, etc. Also brakes. I was just going to convert the suspension over to coils to keep the cost down to get her running correctly again. Since the price he is asking is unbelievable! Its an older gentleman second owner and he put some money into her and babied it. Its been parked for some months after the air suspension fail. I'm not sure if he knows about the conversion or what I didn't ask. He just wants to sell it. And for some reason no one has jumped on it. He even lowered the price after some months.. I also ran across a tip-top 97 XJR ( X300) which I'm sure you know its a V6 supercharge. Which i hear are becoming rare and one of the last of the most "reliable) engines Jaguar produced- the inline 6 Also the arguably the best classic body style like the X308. I know its not in the X350s league as far as performance. But I hear you can do some slight mods to increase the Hp and performance to get it close to 400 Hp. I believe it has 335-40 stock HP. For a V6 that's good. Also I'm sure its better on gas.. He also recently got a 5K paint job. So he stated. It has around 120k miles as well and its an 97 like I stated. Its not in the excellent category like the 04 XJR it has a lil wear in the interioe, driver seat steering wheel grip etc. But not to bad . His asking basically the same price as the 04 XJR.. I'm kinda torn on what I should go after. I had a lot of nice cars and I have a few now. Benz AMGs, Lexus LS600 which I must say is an Awesome car in itself and extremely rare. But this would be my first Jag and I have always wanted one. I like the look and I have heard wonderful things about them along with the bad stuff due to the reputation. But I'm beginning to think a lot of ppl are unaware and just repeating the rumors. So all that to say I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions you may have. You seem pretty knowledgeable about Jags with you're experience. From what I read in your comment. If you have any input it would be much appreciated. Or anyone else that may have any suggestions. I thank you in advance. I'm sorry for the book myself and any typos. Best wishes. Thanks.

    Struggling for things to complain about there! No keyless or backup camera on a 2006 car. I could say the same about most Merc S classes of the era, certainly any at the same price point.
    Also you have to remember, compared to Mercedes & BMW, Jaguar is a low volume manufacturer with much lower R&D budgets. It's still a little behind now, but in 2006 it was light years behind the big boys. So they tend to focus on the driver rather than the tech.

    I would change the wheels, low profile tyres are wrong, to my mind on a classy car like that.
    I have to agree the sat nav is very old school. It can be updated at a cost, we were told to use an after market one.
    Key less entry is one thing that makes it dead easy for a car thief to steel a modern car. My father had a car back in the early '70's that you could up with an aluminium comb, mind you it was a wonderful Morris Oxford Traveler that was very rusty. I did find a certain amount of discomfort after a few hours in the driver's seat. Funny thing is the car that brought to replace it, a Rover 75 Classic 1.8, I feel far more comfortable. Pity it does not have the presence of the XJ6 even though it was a diesel engined car which is now considered evil by the very people who told us petrol engined cars are the devil's car of choice. Dam those German car companies for telling porky pies about emissions.

    Suggest you sell it. Its a sporty variant hence the stiffer support for the seats, designed to hold your sad ass firmly in place when cornering. Low profile tyres, again designed for a sportier drive, get a life and finally, what the hell do you need a back up camara for. Thats what your mirrors are for. Guess you can tell, Im a Jag fan.

      This car is amazing was,still and will be. The wheels are the best looking ever on the Jaguar OEM line. Did you know that? Jaguar was the only manufacturer who used real conolly leather and woods in the interior? Others like Mercedes, Audi,Bmw are all using plastic and leather mixtures in their car and fake wood accents. I not talking about Bentley and Rolls cause they are in the high end category but if we see just that it’s already shows Jaguars are how amazing cars. I had an s type with the newer interior and 6spd ZF trans and thoes people who drove my car they are all had a same feel like you really got what you have paid for. I don’t mind if i don’t have keyless entry pushing a button is not a problem for me. The navigation and backup camera issue can be solved easily you can get an aftermarket modul what you can connect and hide in the glovebox which can handling the backup camera, bluetooth,memory cards and also gives a decent upgrade for your navigation system. Why don’t you look at it on the web? The differential slip problem is..... i don’t know... Who cares? This car is a highway punisher not a dragster. Anyway it’s a beautiful good looking car in beautiful condition. Thanks for keeping it well maintainted and not just flashing and using until the wheels are not falling out like many people.

      InternetDude This is a gorgeous looking car that will prove a real classic. I own a 2008 XJ L portfolio 2.7 D and I get over 30mpg despite that on motorways I travel at 70 to 120mph. I have driven it on a track at 145mph. The cor just puts along and the handling is very precise it take corners brilliantly and is great fun. Despite all this the car is very luxurious and extremely comfortable long journeys in this car are a joy and not a chore. Mine has been remarkably reliable. So I am over the moon at the MPG I get, the performance I get, the comfort I get, the reliability I get. I have done 135,000 miles in this car and loved every one of them. Frankly it’s too good change even after so long. It is always noticed and makes an elegant entrance.
