- We have a V8 and V10 M5 down. The S85 V10 in the E60 M5 developed a rather unpleasant noise and the gearbox in the E39 M5 decided not to gearbox anymore. Also, project Raliegh receives new carbon fiber intake plenums from Eventuri!

The good thing about running a bmw mechanic channel like yours is that you will never run out of content 😅
🤣
lmao real
Hahahaha
lmao i was just gona say that 😂
Naaa, these are classics, and he works on a lot of them, very good content, but to your point, have you watched LR Time? If your daily drivers give you enough content for a update every week, then drive a Toyota rather.:) LR Time also a very good channel though.

You need to have at least 2 to make sure you have one to drive while the other one is in the shop getting fixed 😁
bro you are not the only one. Ever since I was a child I just loved looking at my uncle‘s e60 when we drove to my aunt. He always drove in front of our car and I just loved it. I think that is the reason why the e60 M5 is somewhat special to me. It sound childish but I also dream of getting a M5 in the future. I have one, it’s ok. The best thing about it is the engine. Nothing like the the v10 singing on downshifts and upshifts. It always feels akward that the sound is coming from a 4 door sedan.

Im constantly fighting to keep my e38 on the road and it’s stressing me a bit. Good to see that even the pros have problems…
As a previous E28, E30, E34, and now a E65 and E70 owner, I can relate to your stress.😎👍🏼
It’s well worth it. Keep at it.
I have the same Problems. I try to keep my E 46 of the road but after 300.000km and 24 Years ( yeah its the Pre-Facelift) its more difficult because there breaks every month something. Actual there are breaking expensive sensor´s... i drove some newer BMW´s but i dont like them because they are quite heavy and "big" in comparission to my E 46. My E 46 is not fast, has no tuning, but i like it. Dont know why, cause most of the time something gone bad and has to be replaced....
I can image the fight to keep an E 38 on the road.
The times here in Germany will be a lot harder than the past years. Everthing gotten so expensive like Fuel, Car insurancy and the list goes on.
In the End i will try to find a cheap second car, so my E 46 can chill a bit.
Cheers!
P.s which E 38- Version do you have?
@@GamersSide4you 1999 M62TU. Spent 13k on repairs the last 6 years including VANOS rebuild, timing chain and complete suspension overhaul but there is always something new that has be replaced.
Sadly, I can relate to that. 1997 740i, I feel like this is a never ending cycle of a month of repairs and a week of joy. Starting to lose my motivation to keep this thing. I feel like everybody else is just driving their cars and enjoying them meanwhile I'm always worried that something is going to break while just cruising somewhere and not pushing the car.
My 2000 M5 jammed in 2nd gear as well. I decided to completely disassemble it and found nothing broken except a jammed fork. After reassembly trans was working fine. Also worth noting that this has happened to quite a few M5s and usually after an aggressive shift.
Do you have instructions on how to open the G420?
I had this same issue except I was stuck in 5th and it was after an aggressive shift. Just ended up replacing the whole gearbox since I had 3rd gear grind anyways.
@@Asserti Google search should help you out. You don’t need to separate the gears themselves, just separate the case starting with removing indent balls on the shift forks and unbolting stuff from there. As always, clean area and meticulous notes on where things go during disassembly will help you tremendously during reassembly. Would love to help out more but this happened around 2011 and I sold the car in 2015..

same, I love my E39 Touring, but is starting to cost money 280K on it now and it really has not cost a lot to maintain up.to now it always has had good oil (Penrite 5w40) and as its a jap import it has the dreaded JATCO trans, but changed the trans fluid every year, never had a problem. The big problem now, is what to do with it, I have a FUGA 370GT what just goes, wife has a Lexus IS350 F which runs ring around any of the modern BMW's, but the old E39 is still a good driver, but for little annoying shit, and I think they were the pinnacle of BMW engineering, which is why we have never brought a newer one after owning BMW's for 35 odd years
Sup Nige? I'm about to head back to NZ to fix my E39 that's stuck on my uncle's lawn. Wish me luck!

Good info in there, ordering parts now for preventive maintenance on the E39... As for the E60, man it would look nice in Chrome Shadow - A56 color code. To my knowledge, the only car painted with this charcoal grey color was the E39 M5 from BMW classic, which actually was featured on the channel a while back. Best color I've ever seen and I'm about to repaint one of my Dolphin Grey 325is E30s with that specific color code.

Sreten, as much as you love everything about that E60M5. Nothing comes even close to the looks of your E39M5, what a stunning car that is. Simply amazed.
No argument there, I love the look of the E60 M5, but to me, E39 M5 is absolutely better looking.
As always, great content! Keep up the good work Streten. Enjoy time with family and friends, and until the next one in 2024

My E39 M5 is about 140,000 miles was glad to see your engine is still running strong even if the transmission has an issue. I have noticed the popping out of third gear once or twice in the 15 years I've had this car and never knew about the arrestor balls that cause this issue so this video definitely helped me! I think I will be upgrading that even though my transmission is otherwise fine. I hope the e60 shifter didn't mess with the transmission! I upgraded my stock shifter to the UUC short shifter and I haven't had a problem in ~40,000 miles it definitely improved the shifting experience - those plastic balls on the stock shifters literally deform and fall apart!
Anyway, Merry Christmas!! Looking forward to more E39 M5 content! Hope you get both these beautiful machines up and running soon!

Typical BMW. You can drive it all day with 0 issues. Park it in the evening. Return to it in the morning and all of a sudden *Check Engine sound effect.wav*
I‘m a technician: try this: before you start the engine just lift the car from the ground an turn the whel from lock to lock 30 times and ad oil if necessery. Then start the engine and do the procedure again an keep an eye on the fluid level. Works ever time!😊
I do the same on my E61 and Z3. Engine off. Turn lock to lock several times until the fluid stops dropping. Running the engine too early just creates bubbles and lots of noise.
I did, and I do the same, it doesn't make a difference on the E60 and E92. It's easier to use your steering wheel since the car is already in the air. :)

Because of the temperature difference during the winter your engine bay will be constantly wet. This sound insulation allow the temperature to escape slowly and oder than sound proofing that is its second job. Once removing it there will be a lot of condensation. :)
