    Greatest board game ever made! I'm glad you are doing content for it. Thanks!

      Thanks. I hope you are enjoying the content. I assume from your comment you probably have the Shikarri yourself as they are an older expansion. Do you find them quite tough to deal with?

    • @brimstoneshadow
      @brimstoneshadow 10 місяців тому +1

      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring yeah most of the extra content you can get outside of the base sets is generally more challenging or has more mechanics/systems. the swamps of death base set also has more diversity in the heroes mechanics and enemies but not too crazy. the base sets are more or less considered a tutorial and then the other content really adds to the universe and challenge level. it can get pretty addictive buying up all the extra content when you start to realize how much better the game gets with each purchase.

      I have Swamps of Death on backorder. It's so hard to find in the UK at the moment. I am definitely approaching the game with caution though. It took quite an effort to organise what I have, and now I have systems in place but I don't want the game to bloat to the point where it becomes arduous to deal with.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring oh for sure you can get too much and make it hard to get things to the table in a timely manner. Marking map cards and map tiles so you can easily pull them out of an accordion file is a good step in making the game faster. Organizing the cards and tokens can get tedious as well. At some point it's no longer a board game out of a box, and more of an rpg with physical components across multiple shelves and boxes and bins. If someone isn't ok with that, then i would be careful with buying too much.

      I have e-Raptor racks for the cards during games, my map tiles are organised by name and type in a swing file box, the miniatures are magnetised and stored in crates lined with rubber steel as I do with other miniatures games, tokens are in a bait box, and I have zip-seal wallets for storing active characters with their sheets and cards between games. So, I laid the ground work for my expansion plans, but it's already a bit of a chore!

    Great vid. I don’t actually have these guys, so off I go a-hunting… 😎👍

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring

      My plan is moderation. I don't like games getting out of control, and if it looks like a game is getting to the point where it's going to take more time to set up than play then I tend to back off. I still play Arkham Horror vanilla, which usually raises a few eyebrows!
      I have quite a few things on backorder (I put in about £200 of product), but they represent what I really wanted to flesh out the promise of the game. If I expand beyond that remains to be seen.
      Shikarri are fun, though. If getting your butt kicked is considered fun!

    I'm fairly new to Shadows of Brimstone. I've played one game and have two more core sets and two enemy packs still shrink wrapped. I have been binging UA-cam videos for the game and I will admit that I am a video snob. I have little patience for videos that lack in video and/or audio quality or for hosts that lack clarity in the delivery. I did however enjoy this video quite a bit. Your quality is admirable and I like that you gave some backstory on the enemies and how they might be used in the game. I found that very helpful and wish I could find more videos like this one. I have subscribed to your channel, plan on looking through the archives and look forward to new releases. Thanks for sharing.

      Thank you for subscribing. There isn't a lot about Shadows on the channel just yet, but there is a video about the Gambler expansion that you might be interested in, and I do have plans for more coverage. Which three core sets have you got? That's a huge amount of game!

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoringI currently own City of the Ancients, Swamps of Death and Forbidden Fortress. The two enemy packs are the Serpentmen of Jorgano & Akaname Tongue Demons. I bought Serpentmen because it was highly recommended for the swamps and the Akaname was a cheap add-on that sounded cool. If I had researched them before buying, I probably would have picked something else but they may surprise me on the table. I also have a decent collection of other games, mostly in the role-playing and heavily themed, so I'm sure I will find some good stuff to watch here.

      That's a cool selection of stuff. I have Swamps of Death on backorder, along with some stuff to flesh out the various worlds. Hopefully it won't be long until I get that.
      Thanks again for checking out the channel.

      Lots of people recommend Frontier Town but at the moment I haven't ordered it. I've discussed this elsewhere in the comments, but at the moment I want to focus more on fleshing out the otherworld I have and adding a few more. Once that's done I will look again at Frontier Town, but at the moment I don't want to spend more time between missions that all feel very limited.

    I really dig their backstory and hope we'll get a pack to play as them one day. I play the game avoiding corruption and mutation like the plague and these folks follow that philosophy. Unfortunately my party does not so we end up in shoot outs. So much for diplomacy.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  10 місяців тому

      It's a really interesting concept. I do wonder if playing one might be too restrictive as you wouldn't be allowed to use any darkstone equipment. I also suspect they would unalive themselves as soon as they picked up even the slightest corruption.

    I'm pleased to see you are still enjoying SOB.
    What bits do you have on back order?
    I have managed to get most of the other world expansions, along with a big amount of the enemy pack exoqnsions and themed packs as well. I love it.
    The more that you add to the game isn't relative to the set up and take down time of the game as it grows, the set up time doesn't scake up at all I have found. You only get out what you are playing with at that time.
    The true secret to streamlining the game is organising the cards and map tiles so you only pull what you need and in a quick process as you do it at the time.
    I have a ccg box with all the cards sleeved and separated by Subject with ccg card dividers, as well as all the map tiles in drop files. Each to their own, I know, but it really works for me and my OCD, as well as speeds up the games heavy admin.
    Do you use food bags to store your characters in with their cards/tokens etc at the end of an adventure. I found this works well and allows a quick 'save' or 'load' of a character even after I have rested them for a few games. I took this from BS Fortress as a build.
    Love it. Completely

      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  10 місяців тому +1

      I listed my organisation in another comment here, but I use a box of hanging files for the map tiles, ziplock bags for active characters with all their stuff, cards are organised by type and go into eRaptor racks during games, tokens are in a bait box, miniatures are magnetised in crates with rubber steel.

    Very nice! It's great to hear about the narrative of your (mis)adventures, even if only in passing.
    Are you interest in the grimdarkiest grimdark that is Trederra? I'm quite qurious about those miniatures and tiles.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for watching. I think a lot of the other worlds look really interesting, but for me, Trederra is a bit too familiar. The ancient city, the derelict spaceship and the swamps all appeal to me more. There are a few worlds that I have decided to delve into, plus I want to flesh out the Ancient City with some more themed enemies there.

    I loved the idea of having the Wandering Samurai in my Old West games. Shades of Kung Fu, as it were. But where ever there are outcast Samurai in a strange land, there are, of course, Ninja pursuing him. So yes, the Ninja pack was necessary!

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  10 місяців тому

      Nice. Was the samurai introduced during the Wild West period of the game or was that a hero from the Forbidden Fortress period?

    • @PrimarchX
      @PrimarchX 10 місяців тому

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring He's in my Mines (Old West) campaign along with the Marshal, the Cowboy and the Frontier Doc. Like all good Ninjas, we know they're near but we have never seen them. So far...
      The character itself is not specific to the Forbidden Fortress.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  10 місяців тому

      Well you know when they will turn up... the worst possible moment.
      I realise the samurai isn't specific as such I just wasn't sure whether he was designed before or after Forbidden Fortress. I just looked it up and I see there was a samurai warrior that was in the base set for Forbidden Fortress but also a wandering samurai hero pack which seems to come from the Wild West phase of the game.
      The frontier doctor seems like a fun character too.

  • @NikoTeaJay

    I've considered the Shikarri for my Forbidden Fortress focused collection, but have thus far opted against it.
    They do seem fun and mix things up rather nicely, but I'll see how some of my untested purchases hold up on the table before I dive in further. It's so easy to want everything for this game.
    I'm planning for my second 2-3 day campaign in a few weeks. And what I really do enjoy about this game is nudging the story along an emerging path. How most everything can be a story hook if I feel like latching on. Rather than fully randomising everything, I occasionally pick appropriate missions and customize the threat decks. Last campaign had a random Jorogumo themed travel event that ended up buying statistically unlikely in its severity. I simply had to follow it up with a Jorogumo themed mission. With my current collection I could pad that out with a spider-ninja themed mission before the proper Jorogumo mission.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  10 місяців тому +1

      That's exactly how I'm approaching it. The random chaos sort of informs the story, and then I funnel it in a direction that I think will be interesting. It's a really fun way of building a story.

    You probably dont need to hear this again but IMO, Swamps of Death and Frontier Town are absolutely essential. If you want to enhance the campaign structure, the fan made HexCrawl on BGG would be the next logical step.

      Swamps of Death is like hen's teeth in the UK. It's one of those things I have on backorder. Frontier Town I am holding fire on because towns already take a lot of time and at the moment I want to focus more on the adventures outside of town. I will probably get it eventually, but that extra time sink has set it back in the queue. I'm not interested in hexcrawl at all.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Oh, okay. I am surprised, but I hear you. I enjoy when the in-between dungeon takes as long as the dungeon, I find they accentuate each other and keep the game from getting stale.
      Please forgive me if I mention hexcrawl again in the future by mistake.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  10 місяців тому

      I do really enjoy the town sections, and Frontier Town was on my shortlist (I play with my D&D group who spend about 90% of every adventure in taverns). But a while back I prioritised what I wanted from the game and put in about £200 worth of backorders of the things that I valued most in that goal. Frontier Town didn't quite make the cut because for the time being I want to focus on the adventure side of things.
      I don't mind you mentioning hexcrawl. It's not something for me, but people are free to talk about whatever they want in my comments, and other people might read the comment, learn about that system and give it a try.
