Well, I always look forward to your Brimstone videos even if not a lot of other people do. I ended up just using some Grecian pillars I had from something else as the targa pylons.
That makes sense. If you don't need or want the custodians, this set probably isn't worth buying just for the two pillars. Thanks for watching the Brimstone content!
Not first. This was one of our first enemy packs we got. If you decide to get another box set, gates of valhalla is a great one to pair up with Ancients like you say, as you get some other world enemies which beefs out the targa plateau from ancients. Gates of valhalla price did come down to a more reasonable level a few months ago. Great to see your collection growing and look forward to seeing more of this on your channel.
I remember them saying the new adventure packs were supposed to be cheaper entry points for the game, but when they hit stores in the UK I didn't notice them being any cheaper! I think both adventure sets look really good, but at the moment I am sticking to expanding the Wild West setting as that is a huge draw for me personally. I have a few more Targa enemy packs incoming, and if after that I still feel I want more of that particular setting Valhalla certainly seems like the best course of action.
Daang! Those are some cool looking roboids. I wish I had those when running Aballon; a sand blasted world where Robot's wander the sun scorched flat terrain, attempting to enact programming even they dont fully understand.
SoB organization is so daunting. The map tiles eat up a whole plastic tub by themselves, the cards occupy 2 whole core set boxes. I haven't even begun mini assembly as I'm sure they'll take up half a bookcase. I really like the idea of brimstone and bought into it hard, but its remained this forever future project for when I secure more square footage.
Yeah, SoB... this was also my first add-on. Together with some snakemen as I purchased both core boxes and my mission was to fill up the other worlds with various enemies... from minions to bosses.... hefty investment... concerning the bases: I actually used transparent acryl bases to let the floorplan show through.. as the different worlds have vastly different design... I was uncertain about this, but it looks astonishingly great... plus the hero miniatures ...they seemed rather.. ehm, featureless or contourless for my taste.. tried to paint them and it was .. irks... so I exchanged the with miniatures from blackscorpionminiatures .. their tombstone line.. and I did not regret it..
Acrylic bases are good when you keep hopping to different settings. I don't use them personally because of how I magnetise my bases, though. The Tombstone miniatures are really great, but I do intend to paint up and use the official stuff.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring good luck - I was not satisfied with the result... but since you purchased it later, you might get a better cast, since afaik they reworked and improved them due to the feedback.
Did you have the original edition or the revised edition of the base game? I have the revised edition which does have the new miniatures. I don't think any of the expansions got redone though, so I'm assuming things like the custodians are the same sculpts from 10 years ago.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I got my from ebay, several years... 6 or 7 years ago.. so I guess they are the old ones. Can't tell as the boxes were dismembered and used as cover art for Feldherr storage boxes.. and the rulebox were updated a while ago. But from the look of it, the custodians are the same sculpt. By the way, the sets from the latest kickstarter (viking/conquistadores) are also a great additions, archivars, etc. all in all a great collection item to sink money in.. if you have the space, that is
Revised editions came out in 2020, so it sounds like you have the older ones. The marshal in this video is the new one and gives a rough indication of the quality of sculpting in the revised box. As I understand it, there is a lot of improvement, so fingers crossed for the painting! At the moment I'm not interested in picking up the Adventures boxes, although they look really cool. As I said in the video, Valhalla does extend Targa, which is one of the worlds I am focusing on, but I'm staying with the earlier Wild West stuff for now and will only pick up Valhalla if I really feel I want even more Targa.
Never received anything? Sorry to hear that. Apart from the most recent ongoing stuff that is still being worked on, I thought FFP had delivered on all their Shadows of Brimstone campaigns.
I enjoy your content on SoB, late or not. Better late than never! I also just finished painting the spiders from this core set so I could use them on Rangers of Shadowdeep. I also do not like that they did not come on bases, it feels kinda cheap.
Thanks. Yes, the lack of bases makes them feel more fragile and floaty, and puts them at a different height to everything else. I may have to get some bases to rectify the issue.
I use my own bases for models that come without them. I just hate the feel of a baseless model. Seems like a good expansion for Targa. I hope you get your hands on the Targa Guardian eventually. I haven't played with Targa stuff myself but XL models for this game have been fun to pick up. Almost like catching Pokemon. All sorts. As a fellow "got it last year" Brimstoner it's fun to follow along your Brimstone videos.
Building the story is a huge chunk of the fun for me. I think that's probably the same for a lot of people, as the game is very workmanlike in many regards, and leans very heavily into the rule of cool and being very thematic.
Thanks for watching. I don't have a lot of Shadows content on the channel at the moment but there is a playlist here with more to come: ua-cam.com/play/PL7oSmfEg7KrnYzsaiNy1KkPhWZ7OQbEoo.html
I too have only just got SoB, my only issue was i got about 4 expansions and the amount of painting and gluing fatigued me lol Also, its a bit of a fiddle getting all the expansions to fit in, the instructions are a tad vague to me🤷
I never start painting until I am sure I am going to like a game. Nothing worse than investing weeks in painting only to realise the game isn't for you, so at the moment I am playing grey. That will hopefully change soon though.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring lucky the frog's customer service were able to make some replacements for me. Not exact, but they fit the bill - i just covered s&h.
As I said, I have fully researched it and know exactly what it brings, and it's not in the immediate plan. That doesn't mean it won't be eventually. It depends how I feel at the end of the first wave of expansion.
At least they delivered something for you to sell, I suppose. I have been stung by a Kickstarter that vanished in a puff of smoke. Having skipped on all the Shadows of Brimstone Kickstarters, I can just gradually explore the bits of the game I really enjoy at my own pace. It's working very well for me.

Really like this game
It really is a lot of fun.
Good choice getting minis for TP. I’ve just put together and started painting all the other minis for use in that world and the library.
I like the Targa setting, and it has some cool monsters. We made an effort to get some warm clothes before exploring it too much though!
Daang! Those are some cool looking roboids. I wish I had those when running Aballon; a sand blasted world where Robot's wander the sun scorched flat terrain, attempting to enact programming even they dont fully understand.
Yeah, they have a really nice alien tech style to them. Their little arms are creepy.

It's amazing to have a game that attempts so create so many worlds, but it's incredible how much baggage you need to travel to them.

Good video, i helped kickstart this game years ago, loved the theme, went all in, and never received a thing.
Never received anything? Sorry to hear that. Apart from the most recent ongoing stuff that is still being worked on, I thought FFP had delivered on all their Shadows of Brimstone campaigns.
The targa plateau enemy card is included in gates of Valhalla. It also includes card tokens 😊
Does it? I looked it up and watched and unboxing and saw it had Archive Towers, but not Targa Pylons.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring maybe I was wrong. Archive towers 😔 must be it. Sorry
No worries. Thanks for confirming for me.
Interesting lore and great vid.
Thanks. Yes, I think Shadows of Brimstone is a really fun concept.

I may or may not have got the image of the Targa Guardian that appears in this video off a box in my collection...
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoringThe guardian is super fun to build. 😁
You're putting more effort into SoB than many game masters put into their RPG campaigns. 😀

Blackstone pylons are now in the game! ; )
I still sometimes slip up and call darkstone blackstone.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I NEED a WH40k and Shadows of Brimstone cross-over. Shadows of Blackstone, perhaps? ; )
