The final shootout scene in Tony's mansion was actually directed by Stephen Spielberg, not Brian DePalma. DePalma had never directed an action sequence like that and felt that Spielberg would have a better idea of how to shoot it. So, they reached out to Spielberg....and he did direct the epic battle in the mansion at the end.
No. Spielberg and DePalma are buddies and Spielberg was there on set but he did not direct more than a few seconds of the shootout. Just a couple of shots, pun intended. If you watch the DePalma biodocumentary he clarifies the few seconds that Spielberg shot. It's also mentioned in at least one of the "Making of" extras about Scarface.

One of my favorite scenes in the entire film was when Tony refuses to assassinate that high value target because he’s with his two kids. Even the hardened criminal and killer like Tony had a line they wouldn’t cross. That’s what set him apart from Sosa, the drug lord. It was ironic, it ended up being his compassion that ultimately got him killed.
Cheating, lying and murder has a pretty good success rate, which is why it's so popular. But nature is always true and will have the last word. - ( "HSBC was fined-HSBC was fined-HSBC was fined-HSBC was fined.... ad infinitum ") PRETTY NORMAL
The thing is, Tony didn’t want to kill the target because the kids are literally in the crossfire. The kids being there isn’t a problem, the kids being a casualty is and killing kids is against his moral code. Which as you said, did get him killed. Also they had a car bomb and a drive-by wouldn’t have worked either.

Someone may have commented on this already but this particular film was a remake of one produced in 1932 with the same title “Scarface”. That film starred Paul Muni as an Italian immigrant named Anthony “Tony” Camonte, who rises to the top in the crime world. The movie was pre-code and had plenty of violence but no “f words” because language of that type was not allowed. The substance being dealt with then was illegal booze and not drugs as in the modern version. Tony’s “little friend” was the not so little Thompson sub machine gun. Great performance as always by Paul Muni. For those who haven’t seen the film I think you would like it and you can see similarities between it and the newer version. Brian de Palma dedicated his movie to the writers of the original one.

Being Cuban as well and having uncles that not only came over on the mariel boatlift and were envolved in the game and they were married to Colombians during that time, there were a lot of Tony’s walking around. It might not be a true story, but a lot was based on real things. I still have nightmares from the "Chainsaw" scene. It's a chilling and disturbing scene, it showed how gruesome the drug game can get looking past all the fast money.
Sadly, I watched a real narco terrorist video where a drug gang literally took a rival's head off with a chain saw and posted the video on Facebook. Wish I never saw it. The Mexican cartels were/are really big on killing rival cartel members in gruesome ways and then video taping it and plastering it on the internet. Sick stuff. Humanity has always been full of depravity and sadism, but now with technology millions of people can actually see pictures and videos of it, when they used to never get exposed to any of that stuff other than newspaper descriptions or library books. My belief in God probably has more to do with the unquestionable existence of evil that has infected man, as I just cannot make any other rational explanation for the levels of cruelty that man inflicts of others.
I loved Scarface my only grip with it is I always wanted to know more about Alejandro Sosa the character, Paul Shenar really nailed this role with how intimidating he was without bring violent.
Any thoughts on the "No Wife, No Kids" scene where Tony kills the assassin, Alberto, in the car? I just thought it was the best scene in the movie. We have this character that was willing to do horrible things, but there was a line he wouldn't cross. How realistic is that?
I know Tony wasn't mafia, but were there rules against harming children, wives, family's that weren't part of that life. If so, how closely were they followed?
Fun Fact: Scarface was not actually a Blockbuster hit when it released back in 1983. It made way more through VHS tapes than it did at the Box Office. Having said that, I, along with millions around the world love Scarface. ✔

I was 18 when Scarface came out and I saw it opening weekend and the theater wasn't completely packed but still a fun crowd. I remember being tired from a long-ass day of work and I sort of spaced out on the movie and crowd reaction. It sucks because I couldnt afford to see it twice at the time. Then about 3 months later, the movie came back around as a second-run film and played at the local 1-screen theater in town for a week and by then I was in a more fun place in life per fun and work and balance, and a friend's older brother worked at the theater and let me and him and another buddy in for free every night, the balcony to ourselves, and we smuggled in 40 oz's of Old E and smoked cigs and a bit of weed and got fucked up. Best movie crowds next to The Thing to this day. Absolute full-on crowd enthusiasm every night. Scarface is in my Top 5 Most Watched Movies Ever.

Tony had Miami on lock. He was just a massive international drug dealer from Miami. The mob was more organized but if you played video games like Vice City that's another game close to Scarface but on a mob level Tommy Vercetti was close to Tony Montana only he was Italian & they tried to use him to go to Vice City fictional (Miami) Florida to gain opportunity off Drug buisness. @Amadeus Lucian I understand what you’re saying, but let’s not get too crazy about this character having “morals”. I wouldn’t call anyone who traffics cocaine, steals another man’s wife and kills him, has an incestuous/weird kind of love/lust for his little sister, kills men to take what he wants from them, a man of virtue. Even some sociopaths have a line that they won’t cross. Tony Montana is not the kind of guy you wanted as your next door neighbor or you want to have over at your house for dinner. All you can guarantee, if he does decide to stop by is that the kids will be safe. Morals is defined as “The prevailing standard of behavior that enable people to live cooperatively in groups.” ‘Moral refers to what societies sanction as right and acceptable”. There was nothing at all about this character that fits into that description. Did he have loyalty and guts? Yes, I absolutely agree. However, drawing the line at killing kids is the only sign you have in the entire movie that he is not as totally depraved as the Drug Kingpins and the other killers that he’s associated with.
I think he got progressively worse as the film went on. During the first half he was mostly cool and collected. He just wanted to do business. After he gets hooked on coke and gains power in the second half he becomes noticeably much more antagonistic and paranoid. Some people cannot responsibly wield power and Tony Montana was one of them. Even if the whole car bombing thing didn't happen I'm positive he would've eventually burned out or been killed over something else anyway.

That'a really cool fact ! Thanks for letting us know :)
Spielberg directed a single shot of the mansion shootout, the sequence when the invaders get inside the house grounds

@@cekojuna6930 Right yeah, I should have worded that clearer I think, I meant the kids being there meant that they obviously die in the blast as well, something Tony could not bring himself to do.

Hey Mike. Have you critiqued "Carlito's Way?" Would like to hear what you think about this classic film.
You read my mind
@Michael Franzese what does this have to do with "Carlito's Way?"
@@korancebland its a fake account its not actually him lol
@Jay R that's kinda dope though. What about this one: the dad on malcolm and the middle is actually dreaming about being walter white from breaking bad?
I remember Oliver Stone saying that this film was "my goodbye letter to Cocaine". It's a great film. My fave quote "Who do I trust? Me, that's who!". Fantastic movie.
I been strung out trying desperately to get off heroin and listening to you is so inspiring I just got a maths degree and I hope you know how you’re helping people
You will win that battle , keep strong

Been there man , you got another month to go.
Great my brother, keep fighting.
Have you tried kratom? Probably isn't for everyone, but ex-heroine users and alcoholics have had success with it. Good luck to you!
We’ve been waiting for this one boss man

Forget gaspipe he was the gas pump!😄

In the "gasoline business "
30 cents on every gallon of gas
Quite a big operation
Bought in the Russians
Bringing in 8 to 10 million a week
I'm sorry to hear that about your brother, and sister, Michael. I watched my dad destroy my family through his addiction. I am so sorry about the loss of your sister
I’d say Scarface is more of a cartel rather than Mob
You mean Tony’s crew? No lol. They were just a crew of drug dealers. A cartel is a massive drug dealing organization that usually spans worldwide. Think of it as like Tony and his crew were like a success local business, but a Cartel is like Walmart, or Amazon.
To out shine other mob families in the buisness. Back up north.
TBH a vice city movie would be awesome
@@spvcs3615
Best way of explaining it was Tony's gang was a Criminal Syndicate in the making. Cartel's handle distribution and shipping hence the "Cart" part. It wasn't a Mob movie because there was no formal organizational positions and protocols; Tony was the main guy, if he goes down, it's over.
@@spvcs3615 i loved that game.
@James Anderson don’t forget the Mexicans too. Cubans Colombians & Mexicans all worked together
As a relatively new viewer and fan, thank you Michael for being a truly different channel! Love your story and content, I cannot pester my friends more than I already am to join in!

Thanks for putting a positive message out there, when you talked about drug addiction it really hit close to home. Me and several family members have dealt with and are still struggling with the endless problems that are caused by substance abuse.

Never get tired of listening to Michael franzese, him and gravano seem to be straight up and tells it how it was. Always watch mob movie Monday to see how realistic the movies are from someone that knows the life better than almost anyone nowadays.
My favorite thing about scarface (the 80s film) is that it was completely made up and also completely truthful. None of it happened yet all of it happened. I love when they have movies and TV where gangsters react to scarface.
I know I haven’t watched this video yet but this movie is one of the greats
@@michaelfranzese I got family who are gangbangers and a lot of them end up either dead or drugged up and I think this movie represents this pretty well
I was the hit man in the end who shoots Tony dead into the pool. Oliver Stone loved it, you believe it?? Oliver was so crazy!-- Gianni Russo
Lesson #2 "Don't get high on your own supply"
Thank you, Michael...from Miami :). Agreed on all points.

🤣@ “Can you believe it”?
At the end of the day, Tony just wanted to be rich and have fun. He didn't want to go around killing Congressmen or nothing. He only killed people that screwed him over.
It was the kids in the car that stopped him from carrying out that hit. He was okay with killing that official, but once he saw his kids get in the car that was it for him.
@@95Ldunc ,He was a guy that suffered too much because of the communism,so he saw the opportunity of success and took it,but I think his biggest dream was to be a family man, have kids,he had a beautiful wife but his short fuse screwed things up,but either way he was a good man,a CRAZY one,but a good one.
@@95Ldunc Ver good analysis
I think he got progressively worse as the film went on. During the first half he was mostly cool and collected. He just wanted to do business. After he gets hooked on coke and gains power in the second half he becomes noticeably much more antagonistic and paranoid. Some people cannot responsibly wield power and Tony Montana was one of them. Even if the whole car bombing thing didn't happen I'm positive he would've eventually burned out or been killed over something else anyway.

What if your sister lies and deceives and takes advantage of your parents to enable and finance her drug habits who she got from a loser boyfriend. Is she not worthy of some of that anger obviously the boyfriend is but is sister 100% off the hook?

LOL...yeah, I’ve been trying to get my wife to move to TX for years now, as a matter of fact, but she was a very well paid exec at a big company. Guess what, she was laid off a year ago but now the kids just want to finish high school. So, maybe in a few years but the politics alone up here are killing me! I was born and raised here but always felt like a fish out of water. Should’ve moved a long, long time ago!
So grateful that you take the time to speak out against the dangers of drugs and the life that comes with them. It would be so easy to glorify these films but thankfully you haven't ... I love the side stories and just hearing an Italian voice describe scenes is very oddly satisfying. NY4LYFE.
