Check out "Find me Guilty" for a mob movie review. Very underrated Vin Diesel flick. Based on a true story. Loved hearing Matt Damon talking about Jack Nicholson improv during a few scenes.
One of THE greatest mob movies EVER!! DiCap was riveting. He was the audience ... like you were he in what seemed like life and death in every scene, and that intensified the anxiety. Like, what would you do ... especially in that scene when Nicholson called him in the bar to ask him why he didn't give up his social security. WOW!! "...Heavy is the head that wears the Crown."
I'd thoroughly recommend watching "Scum" starring Ray Winstone. Not a gangster film. It's set in a young offenders prison in Britain, but it's one of Ray's most prominent films and a great watch.
Tuned out in the middle of it. I love the film, but I didn't need anybody to just retell it to me verbatim minus any outside value. Loved a lot of materials done with you on other channels.
I see this movie as being the measure of perfection in terms of twists and turns count. It comes really close to being excessive a few times, but never actually crosses an unbelievable line. The pace and frequency of the backstabs = 👌!
A great scene with Mark Walberg in the police detectives briefing room, he tells the FBI agent (Walberg’s brother in real life), “My theory on Feds is treat em like mushrooms, keep em in the dark and feed em shit.”
Absolutely high quality content as always! I’d love to see a review for the original masterpiece this was based on, called Infernal affairs (taking place in Hong Kong). It would be incredible to listen to your point of view on Hong Kong and Chinese triads (in comparison to the Italian mafia). other movies on Chinese triads I’d recommend: Hard Boiled, A better Tomorrow, The Killer, City on Fire, The Killers. Also Infernal affairs is a trilogy so I definitely recommend the other two movies. I would also love to see your review on other movies like Nameless Gangster (South Korea), Snatch (UK) and A Prophet (French).
Hey Michael, another great Mob Movie Monday. I love The Departed, have seen it several times. Once I watched on a flight from Houston to Boston on my iPad and then walked around and some of the places where the film was shot. Boston being much smaller than NYC, there are fewer crews. The movie leads me to believe there weren't really any Italian crews. The seen in the deli where Leo takedown the two guys from Providence hints that the Italians were trying to move in. I'm no expert but I've spent enough time and know enough people in Boston to understand that the Southies are pretty strong, tough people. Was Boston run exclusively by the Irish back in the day?
In my experience, Jack Nicholson's performance is the most realistic I've ever seen. The way he plays like he knows something but then flips it like he doesn't while talking to you is what the guys were like with me.
@@ericg1100 --I loved the scene where James Gandolfini punched Patricia Arquette right in the face. But yes a technicality , but without the "mob" it would have been anywhere close to the movie it was. Like "Jaws" without any shark attacks .

One of my favourite Scorsese films and one of my favourite films in general. I really love how the film weaves this complex narrative together since we basically have two plots going on with both moles, both of which could have made their own great movies but William Monaghan’s script just so effortlessly brings them together without forcing it, everything feels so natural the way they come together and mirror each other. I also love Jack Nicholson in this movie, he’s clearly having a blast and I like how he’s the main thing tying the plots together. I also love Mark Wahlberg’s performance. This is really the first thing I’ve seen him in where he’s had to really act and he knocks it right out of the park. Great movie. Definitely one of Scorsese’s best. Also, the opening sequence is just amazing. Probably has one of my favourite opening lines of any movie “I don’t want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me.” And I love how the movie’s first line is this, and the last line is “Okay…” followed by a gun shot and then some sweet Roy Buchanan.

When did it come out
@@kennethwalton2380 2005 or 6
Actually that is a good movie. Vin Diesel doesnt have many. But that movie was entertaining. Its fictional but entertaining.
Hell ya the best scene!! "You think you can do my job?" " Ya I probably could do your job, but I don't want to do your job". Lol scene is awesome!!
Scorsese films seem to all be very watchable. He knows how to keep pace and he knows the best way to draw you in.
I'd thoroughly recommend watching "Scum" starring Ray Winstone. Not a gangster film. It's set in a young offenders prison in Britain, but it's one of Ray's most prominent films and a great watch.
Nil by mouth is a better film IMO, but I do like Scum
@@Madyetmellow Nil by Mouth is probably his best performance. Sexy Beast and 44 Inch Chest are pretty good too.
“I’m the fucking daddy”. Great film👍
@@colinearwaker3329 " where's ya facking tool." ... " what tool " ......" this facking tool"
Great movie.
Michael, can you do a video about the “Mafia Cops” Stephen Caracappa and Louis Eppolito?
I’ve been asking him to for months
Yes, please do
Martin Scorsese GOT ROBBED of the Oscar for GoodFellas!
His best film by some distance which is crazy considering how many great films he has
Yeah, fuckin Dances With Wolves
@@GoGetYourShinebox Raging Bull is not only Scorcese's best, I'd call it the best of all time
I have to watch this again because the last time I was sick as a dog and missed a lot of it.
Thanks Michael for sharing👍
Tuned out in the middle of it. I love the film, but I didn't need anybody to just retell it to me verbatim minus any outside value. Loved a lot of materials done with you on other channels.
I see this movie as being the measure of perfection in terms of twists and turns count.
It comes really close to being excessive a few times, but never actually crosses an unbelievable line.
The pace and frequency of the backstabs = 👌!
Thank you Michael!! You did it!! I was waiting for this !!
A great scene with Mark Walberg in the police detectives briefing room, he tells the FBI agent (Walberg’s brother in real life), “My theory on Feds is treat em like mushrooms, keep em in the dark and feed em shit.”
Love this series keep up the good work
Absolutely high quality content as always!
Me too was about to say that this is a remake, both very good films
@@tomstevens7660 He mentions it in the video. I think he did an interview recently (In 2023.) with a Chinese-American mob guy.
One of my favorite films in the past couple decades.
TRUE ROMANCE , One of the best mob / crime movies you never heard of . Written by Quentin Tarantino , 1993
The mob is involved but it isnt a mob movie
@@ericg1100 --I loved the scene where James Gandolfini punched Patricia Arquette right in the face. But yes a technicality , but without the "mob" it would have been anywhere close to the movie it was. Like "Jaws" without any shark attacks .
Best part of that movie is stoned brad pitt lmao laugh every time 🤣
I literally just watched this movie and then this video pops up as a suggestion at the top of the page. Can't believe it was made 15 years ago. I saw it when it first came out as a teen
This movie was great. I liked the emphasis on the small details like the clicking of the cell phones opening and closing, and the close shots of the cellphones when they were communicating etc...
How about Carlito’s way Michael
How can you not love Viggo in the wheelchair?
That movie was just scarface part 2 if Tony somehow survived all those shots, got rushed to the hospital did time, and turned his life around lol
@@EdenPrime7 They are vastly different. Carlito is a much more redeemable as a character and the overall tone is softer compared to the carnage of Scarface.
@@quizzicallithium612 He said "if he turned his life around"
I was always curious is he ordered the cranberry juice knowing someone would talk shit and that’s how he found his way in.
Michael's social media manager: “Hey Mike, how many spoilers we gonna put into this?”
Michael: “Yes.”
Are they really spoilers when the movie is 15 years old?
@@taylorwhite5149, yes because Marco lives under a rock.
Jack’s first line at the beginning of the movie. Was poetic.
I'm watching a video about Anthony Casso. I start going through the side video and who pops up but Michael Franzese podcast. I am so glad you started a podcast although I'm 7 months late. Looking forward to some great content! Thanks
The departed is on Netflix
Best line in the movie
'My theory on Feds is they're like mushrooms. Feed them shit and keep them in the dark'
That's actually what they do to us.
"One cannot be betrayed if one has no people." Kobayashi from the Usual Suspects.
I’m so glad you mentioned the original Infernal Affairs!! It’s such a masterpiece of Hong Kong cinema, and so is it’s sequel. I highly recommend doing a mob movie Monday on Infernal Affairs 2!
Michael is such a great speaker. Could listen to his thoughts on a variety of topics for hours.
Two movies that would be great to review:
Carlito's way
State of Grace

Mr Franzese have you seen "killing them softly"
Don'r know jow i missrd this one- a winning combination. Michael's great enthusiam is warranted. Definately elgonna rewatch "The Departed". Thanks Michael!
Scorsese choose a perfect cast for this movie. Amazing
Best line in the movie " no tiki, no laundry" classic
Every actor in this were brilliant. Top class movie.
Trust me, the Hong Kong version (Inferno Affairs) is so unique and has a different feel to it. In my opinion better than the Hollywood adaptation.
So glad he brought up the original "Infernal Affair" great movie, there was a part 1 & 2, cant remember if there was a 3rd. Go watch it of your in still in this COVID lock down.
CAN YOU DO “THE PROFESSIONAL” AND “CARLITOS WAY”❓❓❓
The professional was a great movie... one of my favorites.👍
@@BillMcGirr Agreed it’s a terrific film, arguably underrated. Young Natalie Portman was _amazing_ and a scene-stealer, better in that movie than the _Star Wars_ prequels, and many of her films since then (loved her in _Black Swan_ and _Closer_ though).
And it introduced me (and likely scores of other Americans) to the wonderful Jean Reno. I was already a fan of Gary Oldman and the late, great Danny Aiello. 🙏🏻

The cast was outstanding.
Great cinematography.
I have the directors cut on DVD...
Every couple of years I rewatch it.
Love that movie.👍🥃
@@BillMcGirr Awesome, I should pick that director's cut ! 🤗👍🏻
You should def watch Black Swan if you're a Portman fan and you've never seen it. There's a scene with Portman and Mila Kunis that alone makes the film worth watching. 😁😱🤣

But I’m also a Portman meets Kunis kinda guy too.😉🤣
Good stuff.👍🥃
Mob Movie Monday is like a fine wine. It gets better with age.. 🍷
The Friends of Eddie Coyle, one of the best stories of low to middle organized crime figures ever made!
Honestly I don’t think there is a better movie to ever come out than the Departed, the cast, the dialogue, the story, it all worked. Easily my favorite film of all time mob or not
This film is a remake of a Hong Kong film, "Infernal Affairs". Both are excellent.
i love how many hidden moles they revealed throughout the movie, it really put emphasis on nicholson's line about the mass of rats gnawing for cheese.
There was at least Leo’s character and the other guy in the Irish crew and two cops, Damon and that other guy right?
"Knock around guys" good cast. Fairly entertaining.
"Shark's Tale" next please Mike
🤔peanut butter./shark tale 😢 I hope it not what I think

Great movie, directed by Sergio Leone. A masterpiece!
@@gzdPr absolutely I can’t count how many times I’ve watched it, do you subscribe to the theory of him being high on the opioids and dreaming everything that happened?
Noodles!
Just re-watched it a few days ago. It could have released this year. The directing, the MUSIC, story, dialogues... It might be the most timeless and maybe the best and most underrated movie of all time...
@@abovemadness I think most of the parts of him as an old man is an opium dream, in which he tries to justify his actions. At the end [SPOILER] when Max supposedly jumps into the garbage truck there’s a Chinese building behind Noodles, which could represent the fact that he’s still in the opium den.
