Honestly, you can never really go wrong with Denzel Washington in the lead role. Happy New Years Mike God bless you!
That’s a fact! One of the greatest actors ever! not to mention he’s an extremely good guy
True especially his role in Training day. After watching that movie I figure he would be a good shoe in for American Gangster. He's ace the 1970's Black Mobster of those years. Plus I love the relationship between him and his Black family and the Italian families.
Facts , denzel is great
@@machibethell7687 Darn straight. If you want a Black guy to play a wise guy of that era Denzel is the guy. He's like the Black Al Pagano.
@Zardoz I meant Al Pacino better.

N*gga wasn’t used colloquially at the time. My “man” was the saying. The phrase’s use is historically accurate.
You wanna be a criminal and don't wanna pay for your crimes, become a politician.
Lol don’t forget the blood pact with Satan that goes along with it 😂
How fucking true!
NICE 1
Hey, it's not a crime if they write the laws.
Don’t forget to take your tin foil hat off before bed time
My dad was in Vietnam and told me way before this movie came out that drugs were being shipped in caskets.
Uh... everyone learned that when Frank got caught...
Most officials wouldnt admit to that because it makes it look like the military dont cover all the bases so to speak. More of a pride thing on their part i guess as to why they dont admit that.
Despicable
I've even heard stories that they put the drugs IN the bodies. Who knows..
That's crazy. I believe you.
Whoever liked this movie go watch the show "Godfather of Harlem". It's a prequel to this movie, with the life of Bumpy Johnson (played by Forest Whitaker)
I've seen it ,its great!!!!
Good movie
Great show. Can’t wait for Season 2!
Or the movie "Hoodlum", also about Bumpy...played by fishburn

Michael has really taken his experience and carven out a good place for himself with these movie critiques. Awesome!! And yes the Godfather of Harlem is a great series starring Forrest Whitaker as Bumpy Johnson. They did a great job detailing Bumpy's relationship with Chin Gigantes family.
"Life is tough enough when everything is going right!" -Michael Franzese,,,,,Saids it all!
@josh p I prefer the straight way
I’m a pastor in Detroit. I love the encouraging words at the end. Keep Up the Good Work!
I feel this film is ridiculously underrated
How is it underrated?? The movie garnered many awards as well as awesome performances!
@@joesoto690 because no one really for the most part talks about it as much as other gangster films
Well I think it got over hyped on release trailer said something like Americas most gangster? Meanwhile lots of people probably never heard of him but most people have heard of say Al Capone or Bugsy or even Dillenger so I the 30s prohibition era gangsters are probably more notorious but it was a good movie and I like that it was a true story.
I don't think you know what underrated means lol
Idk about that, it was very popular
The moral of these stories is this: don’t get greedy and always weigh risk verse reward. Never do anything that has greater than 50% chance of getting caught.
Michael Franzese favourite mob guy ever
And Gaspipe
@Just Another Sneaker Junkie! what is Sammys channel called ? I want to check it out.
I thought Michael Franzese never ratted though? I can admire a guy who made mistakes and then (sort of) made up for them. One who now wants to use his past for the better others. Sam Bull sang like a canary. How he never got clipped is beyond me. But I'm pretty sure even after prison and witness protection, he was still running deals. ME thinks there's a few families out there that aren't so high on Sammy TV. lol.
@@zuzepfingeredfleas8744 he did sign testified paperwork the feds presented him and testified against the mobs involvement with boxing something of that degree but he’s not totally clean there’s a video of mike testifying on UA-cam
@Just Another Sneaker Junkie! Thank you
This is the best “American Gangster,” movie. I love that he included pieces of the real backstory, and his opinion about the individual scenes. I also Love Denzel and his movie catalog.
Frank Lucas lost his empire over a jacket.
It was a bit more than that mate.
True because they didn't know who he was 💯💯💯
nothing NOTHING in that movie was true
Word
He went against his own rule
Frank matthews was a bigger dealer than frank lucas and Nicky barnes. He moved in the house next door to carlo gambino and was never caught.
yeah, I learned there were ALOT of heavyweights back then...even Peewee Kirkland moved more weight than Frank Lucas but I think it was how Frank did it that it made him stand out because he had a direct source in Asia
Just seen your comment after I posted lol
You been watching Amazon prime videos
Yes frank Mathews moved to Todt hill, peewee Kirkland another Harlem gangster was also a bigger player than Lucas and Barnes
Not Carlo. Carlo always stayed in the home he had for years. Frank lived across the street from Paul Castellano.
He's right American Gangster is the best (recent) mob movie.
Black Mass
Goodfellas the best of all time for me
@@jem2886 im gonna go get the papers get the papers
That and The Departed for sure
It’s not even a mob movie tho it’s a black movie
Ridley Scott actually said in his dvd commentary that the shipping of the drugs was far darker in reality than what was shown in the movie, they hid the packages inside the dead bodies.
Excellent overview of a cool movie.
@Michael Franzese haha this is a horrible attempt at a scam. Do some people actually fall for this ish???
Denzel, the best actor of just about all time.....
Joaquin is great too. Can act anything like Denzel

Michael is the Roger Ebert of mob movies. His review is always fascinating to listen
Denzel Washington, was fantastic in this movie. One of the best actors ever.
My Mother and her aunt remembers Bumpy Johnson well, she knew his wife in passing. After Bumpy died a lot of guys use to name drop him trying to build up their own reputations in Harlem, I think Frank Lucus was just one of many doing the same. My Mom left Harlem in the late 60's before things got really crazy, but her family stayed and got caught up in the heroin game. Frank Lucus did make a name for himself, but we always heard that the Italians Bumpy worked with wouldn't work with Frank, and that going around them was out of necessity not ambition. We do know that frank and Ike Atkinson came from the same area of North Carolina, and they may have been cousins or something, but we always thought that Frank was taking credit for a lot of things Atkinson was doing. Anyway I love your channel, keep up the great work, and God Bless You.
"Or would you rather your house blows up next time" DAMN! 😂😂😂
I appreciate the last thought. "Life is tough enough doing right."
“ Or would you rather your house blow up next time?” :: you know I loved that car:: I know...
FINALLY!! I was waiting for this one... Hopefully Michael Franzese does Hoodlum with Lawrence Fishburn and Andy Garcia
@Ontario360 VR That is one amazing movie... I was trying to figure rhat movie awhile ago. And you just reminded me of it. Also there a funny ass movie back in the day called the wood or the woods. It's like a comedy gangster movie. About 3 black best friends in la. Shows there life untill ones wedding day. Some of the shit that happens if pretty funny. You will laugh at it. Check it out. Or if u have seen it did you like it? Omar Epps and Tay Diggs are in it. Its smoke a hoint and watch it. SO let me know what you thought of it

The man of the hour, too sweet to be sour.
The womens pet and the mens regret!
i like how Michael is reffering Nicky Barnes to young man because he died in his 60's, like in these movies about the mafia where character is named a kid even when he is 50yrs old
I think he was referring to Bumpy Johnson.
@Michael Franzese i don't get it
Thanks for the review Michael you really seem like a stand up guy much respect to you and keep up the good work.

Between Serpico and that documentary called the Seven-Five, anyone who’s paying attention. Should be fully aware that cops in NYC were on the take.
We’re?!? WERE?!?! We’re on the take?
Seen both. Seven five the best watch of them.
They’re still on the take lol
They still are
Most cops are still now
And love the closing statement!
American Gangster is one of the best movies of all time. Denzel is easily my favourite actor, along with De Niro and Al Pacino.
I wish the three of them made a gangster movie
I think what makes that arrest scene cinematically powerful is the fact it's the first time in the whole movie that those two characters come face to face.
I went to school with and was really cool with Frank’s son... sad that he passed.

Best part: The Ending!
American gangster is just amazing!
I wonder what’s Michael’s all time favorite movie he could watch over and over
Gotti
Frank Lucas did a interview on a radio station they asked him about how accurate the movie was and he said about 75 to 80% accurate!!!
@stryfetc1 And that's on a good day. It sometimes seems like Hollywood is allergic to accuracy
@RDZ Productions it wasn't though.
Denzel is one of my favorite actors and he was amazing as usual. It was hard for me to see him play this role because he is normally a hero and he played a villian. I never thought this movie was based on mob life a real story but this still was a great movie.
We need your next episode to be on “OZ” I liked that one a lot ! Keep it up !
Mr franzese you are a true inspiration, not only have you turned your life to the good, you are making so much effort in encouraging others to take the right path, I applaud you, 👌, hope you come to England at some point, to give a talk, much appreciated 👍👍👍👍
Fair play to Michael for still getting this out despite his busy schedule, appreciate it! Happy to hear he is getting back on the road as well.

Its great ,just watched it yesterday. Really unappreciated movie
Man what an amazing underrated film
There are a lot a LOT of people that believe that you can´t create an honest business. They think that all entrepreneurs are undercover criminals. I hope you make a video speaking of this subject.

Good film, I prefer Blood in blood out. Do you know that film?
I doubt he'd know much about them
@@IssamBougrine yeah saw both i feel American Me is more griddy
For some reason I admire your mindset. I want to understudy you. Thank you for a UA-cam channel. Mafia mentality + Business
I watched a documentary of Frank Lucas and I was very surprised to find out that his brothers took over his business without him knowing some time before he went to jail and operated as their own after he was convicted. Also his brothers were way more violent than Frank Lucas. People scared of them more than they scared of Frank.
I seen that doc i still believe that Frank Matthews was much bigger and more respected than Lucas plus Lucas was snitching just like Nicky Barnes
Good advice Michael. Sammy says the same thing. Avoid criminal activity if you value your freedom. And your life.
American Gangster is one of the best mob movies of all time.
the only problem i have with this is it needs to be longer love listening to you
Love it, Michael. Thank you for sharing and always encouraging others to walk the right way…
My father is a good man who taught us the same. Although in Chicago as one in politics and teamsters union business he had various friends, he is respected as a great man who helps and takes care of people by them all.
Love how everyone is calling Takashi 69 all kinds of snitches but put people like Frank Lucas and Nicky Barnes on a pedestal. They were informants one and all.
Back in the days mike would say Denzel was a mulignan 😂

This is to Michael, or "his people" who see this. Any plans to sit down with Sammy the bull? I didnt know if there was to much between you guys or not, as in bad blood etc...I'm sure you are aware that people would lose their damn MINDS!! 😂
Last question. Will we ever see you on Joe Rogan?

OMG please good Sir. Do the movie BLOW
Frank Lucas and Nicky Barnes were contemporaries. Both men and their organizations were on the street at the same time, but they were not in direct conflict. Both Frank Lucas and Nicky Barnes confirmed they knew each other during that time across a number of different interviews and documentaries.
Though they didn't speak very well of each other in these interviews, they both confirm they knew each other. In one documentary, it was said that Nicky Barnes initially wanted Frank Lucas to join the council. In Nicky Barnes "Mr Untouchable" documentary, Nicky and Guy Fisher stated Frank Lucas and the Country Boys were importing alot of heroin, and that they had product but not real estate.
One definitely gets the impression the Nicky and Frank encountered each other alot and never had any serious conflicts, but didn't like each other very much.
Hey Micheal, I'd really wanna see you reaction to Tommy shelby in Peaky blinders. Its set in the early 20s in England and you'd love the show especially season 4 when the mafia is involved.
Anyone who was living in or around Harlem in the 1970s and 80s knew that Nicky Barnes was the real force to be reckoned with at that time. I'll leave it at this: Nicky Barnes was Macy's. Frank Lucas was Gimbles. Not the other way around. In terms of how Nicky Barnes regarded Frank Lucas, you can UA-cam search the Nicky Barnes documentary, Mr. Untouchable and you can hear the man himself say it in his own words. A worthwhile documentary to watch. Terrible as these people were for virtually destroying Harlem with drugs, it recounts a vivid and accurately the atmosphere of Harlem at that time.
Using the caskets of dead American soldiers from Vietnam to smuggle Heroin was also presented in the movie "Boys in Company C" released in 1978.
It’s great to hear your opinions on these films. I’m not a big film fan. They have to be good, but if you vouch that they are authentic. I’m happy to give them more time. All art uses artistic license. But the closer to reality they can get the more interesting they are.
If both sides of the story were unhappy with it, that probably means there was a lot of truth in it lol
One of the best movies ever made, with a positive message. Love it.
Italians are involved in everything you could imagine
Love your message at the end Michael..
The premise of the movie was not that Barnes and Lucas were competitors. It's that Barnes was buying Lucas's product and cutting it, hurting the brand name.

Thank you for the upload. I was shocked that the bar scene in the movie, where Mr. Washington reminds one not to be obvious, classic scene, wasn't mentioned. The bar scene was mentioned in a video, either here or ValuEntertainment (during an interview) on Good Fellas.
