Lye is a very strong Base, which is the opposite of an acid. However, this video is extremely informative and I like how we can all see how passionate you are and how much fun you are having. :)
My thought as well. When she said "lye is acid" I was like waaaaaiiity did someone reverse the ph scale and not tell me? I was always taught anything with a ph above 7 is basic, anything below is acidic. I guess people get confused that bases can be caustic.
We used it to remove paint on helicopters. Man, you talk about burn. A tiny drop on your skin and you head for water. But, lye is not flammable. So, no fire hazard. I just wish the idiots would have given us vinegar in spray bottles Civil service.
This is the best video I've seen about natural soap yours and yours alone thank you so much for posting this now this is organic natural so and you did it with lard as well I'm so excited to try it just from watching this video 😊
lye is an alkaline which is the opposite of an acid due to the ph scale so when burn by lye pour vinegar on it since vinegar is an acid it will neutralise it
Pouring vinegar on strong hot lye will make it a whole lot hotter. If you have either a strong alkali or a strong acid on your skin, the recommended first aid is to flood it with lots of cool water to dilute the pH to a safe range without creating an exothermic chemical reaction on your skin.
Thanks Becky, I just got back into soap making after a two year absence and I am so excited to see you again! I just made three batches. Two were great, one was awful but not to be outdone I re batched for the first time. I bought some mutton fat from a Middle Eastern store and rendered it down.
Homemade soaps are hands down so much nicer then any store bought soap!!!! I have extra lard and I'm going to use it to make soap! I normally use oils...
If I’m working indoors with anything that makes a vapor I always work beside my cooktop and turn on my vent fan. I have a downdraft cooktop. This is a great way to avoid tears when chopping onions, as well.
Saponification is the name of the process. It's funny when people make fun of lye soap (like the Beverly Hillbillies, note Granny was always BOILING a HUGE kettle of supposed soap, and I promise if you boil it , it will come out grainy.). they think the lye stays lye, like chemistry doesn't happen to change it into something else. That would be like sodium and chloride stayed their respective toxic selves instead of turning into salt. Also, there are VERY cute candy silicone molds and soap molds to make adorable soaps if you want.

Wonderful information I am very great Greatful
A modern nickel (last 20 or so years) weighs 5 grams. So, five cents weighs 5 grams
All scales come certified calibrated, but sure you can do it just because to check on manufacturers if your scale made in China.
thank you so very much. The vinegar was very helpful & I just made this 2 days ago. Thank you again!
I love this. And you are a real joy to watch!!! I smiled all through the video, I'm getting ready to try this very soon. I'm very excited!

40oz = to 2.5lbs of lard
I just bought a soap mold from hobby lobby, it was $8.99 but I used a 40% off coupon and paid $5.80 for it,, gotta love coupons
You can find that shit in dollar store for basically for a dollar. why do you spend 6? 😆
I wish I knew how to be an extreme couponer
K
I use condoms for my soap molds. They come out the perfect shape and size.
Very creative, nice looking texture...❤
I used your recipe lye, lard, and water soap and it turned out perfect , so
I want to try other oils and scents to make a better smelling soap.
Hey Danny, what did you put in to take out the bad smell?
Was wondering myself about that funny smell despite using essential oils or fragrance oils?
Danny Boyette How much were the ingredients? Does your skin look great now?
Hello. Good evening.did you ever add scents?
Here's the ingredients for a homemade organic herbal soap
5 cups coconut oil
3 cups lye solution (made from wood)
1 cup fresh herbal extract (I used herbal and fruit extracts)
1 tablespoon citronella oil (optional)
Use same process. Mix oil with lye solution. If the mixture becomes creamy add the herbal or fruit extract and mix for few minutes until it meets its consistency. Add citronella oil and mix for few seconds. Pour into a molder and let it stand for 12-24 hours. Remove from molder and cut to desired size. Air dry for 28-30 days to complete saponification. Clean and packaging.
Good luck.
After my first attempt it came out perfect, good work becky
I'm going to make soap I've already started making my own laundry soap and love it
Way to go. Home made soap is the best🌻❤️🌻
'Well leave the little whoop-de-do at the tipidy-top' and 'i dont want to measure it, i just want to do it'. Miss, you are a wonderful, joyful inspiration. As a woman, wife and mother. You bring the joy back to it. This is why i wanted to learn soap making to begin with, not to compete with the professionals and get into the latest trends, but instead to enjoy a simple project making something i need anyway thats healthy. THANK YOU
Lye is a very strong Base, which is the opposite of an acid.
She probably got confused since it can burn you
We used it to remove paint on helicopters. Man, you talk about burn. A tiny drop on your skin and you head for water. But, lye is not flammable. So, no fire hazard. I just wish the idiots would have given us vinegar in spray bottles Civil service.
How long after can you start using it
GlobalWatch you should let it cure for (four weeks ) before you use it to be safe.
This is the best video I've seen about natural soap yours and yours alone thank you so much for posting this now this is organic natural so and you did it with lard as well I'm so excited to try it just from watching this video 😊
lye is an alkaline which is the opposite of an acid due to the ph scale so when burn by lye pour vinegar on it since vinegar is an acid it will neutralise it
I know that from watching Fight club... :D
Does it affect the proportion of the ingredients if I want to add some essential oils or fragrance oils?
No it doesn't.
I find you so helpful! Thank you for sharing
I love all your soap videos! Thank you so much! We just made the coconut recipe, 6 weeks and we can try it :-)
Thanks so much for sharing first time learning how to make soap. Excited
I tried this recipe and it worked great .Thank you for making your videos and please keep making them.
I've made my first batch last week,Sunday will be my 7th day of curing.I can't wait to try in out.
Homemade soaps are hands down so much nicer then any store bought soap!!!!
I have extra lard and I'm going to use it to make soap! I normally use oils...
Thank you very much for the video and the recipe!!!! I can't wait to use my lard! I'm very excited!
Thank you very much for sharing I am ready to try it. I am really for trying stuff. I am trying to be busy for my self hahaha
Search nice saop it looks very good
Will this soap once is made melt easily in the microwave like "melt and pour soap" does?
If I’m working indoors with anything that makes a vapor I always work beside my cooktop and turn on my vent fan. I have a downdraft cooktop. This is a great way to avoid tears when chopping onions, as well.
I absolutely love your intro.... Love how you explain everything... I will definitely be trying this... Faithful subby here
How lucky and smart your are, I wish I can do that, I adore the outdoors, and animals. Good luck Becky.
Also, there are VERY cute candy silicone molds and soap molds to make adorable soaps if you want.
....I love your bloopers....so natural and funny....good soap videos too👍
Could you add color to it or a fragrance without messing up the soap?
very proud!! keep it up!!! hope to receive more of your video clips. god bless you and family including your loving pets and companions!!!! definitely members around you are happy and blessed!!!!!
Regardless the content, you are one of the best video presenter ever. You look so happy, pessimistic. and living in peace with yourself. Hope I am right
Kindly asking for the formular
@@agabaabibu82 She gave the formula at the beginning of the video. I didn't write it down because it is simple to work out using soapcalc.net.
Miss Becky! Thank you for such an informative tutorial! Quick question: Do i need to cut back on the water if using essential oil to scent the soap?
Been looking for a good soap making video for awhile--thank you, very clear and understandable for the beginner!
you are probably one of the most amazing people around . Inspirational !
Have gathered all I need to try my first ever batch of soap. This looks like a great starting point for me. I have always been intimidated by the lye. LOL I decided the only way I am ever going to do it is by doing it. But the mold I ordered turned out to be much smaller than I thought it was. Can you tell me the volume, or the measurements, of this mold you are using so I can adjust the recipe appropriately, please? Thanks for sharing your videos with us.
yeah, great question - I was wondering myself.
If you go to her website she has a drop down for supplies and sends you to amazon to the one she purchased. I go to aliexpress.com cheaper just takes longer to get. You get what you pay for so look around.
Hi everyone I love the looks off that soap and want to try it but I'm not sure of the size containers of the lard, thanks for sharing.
I really admire what you have done. You have made my dream a reality! Wish I could do the same!
One of the better soap making videos
I thank you for have lye soap making on you tube it was help to me making it keep up good work
Will swirls (color)hold up well in this lard soap? I've did it with other oils. I love this. I've made Lard soap. Want to try swirling
I always wanted to know that , thanks a lot my dear that was just great congratulations
I'll try it. Thanks for the instructions
Wish you would make more videos. So enjoy the ones where you make from scratch.
It is a very good recipe of soap. Can I wash clothes or dishes with this soap?
Wearing: gloves, goggles, long sleeves
* make it in a well ventilated area or even outside, make sure no pets or kids are around the fumes after mixing the lye water will make it hard to breathe and making you feel as if you will choke making you cough.
*Vinegar incase you splash lye on you/ I would suggest rinsing it off with water is fine to.
* adding the lye to water never the other way around
40 oz lard ( melted)
5.4 lye ( order on amazon)
13.5 oz water
Allow it to cure for about 3 weeks
Add the lye into the water, melt the lard add it to lye water and stir for a second make sure the lard is room temperature around 80 degrees ( both was about 100 degrees) mix till you can see the soap start to trace, pour into mold let sit, and cover let sit for 24 hr.
I really really love your tutorials, and have been trying for, what feels like forever, to convince my wife to ditch the corporate world and take this up, but she’s not quite ready yet 🥰
I do have to say though, whoever is helping you off screen, you talk to them like they’re a dumb child… I think you’re fabulous, so I know you can do better. ♥️
I love you and what you are doing let's grow together my sister God bless you thanks
Great video! I'm just wondering if the lard has to be leaf lard? I have a ton of the non leaf lard, but am hesitant to us it in case it makes the smoke smell "piggy".
Hi Becky I love to live in a farm like you one day. God bless.
Thanks for sharing this video, very informative and simple
If you were to use herbs or maybe mint for a natural fragrance instead of essential oils, how would you do that?
I bought heart shaped moulds and my best friend bought me a doctor who one randomly last year and Im also going to try a pingles can like someone suggested tonight. Im excited. I just ran out of my hot process soap and this will be my first time doing cold process.
Haven’t even watched the video yet and “liked” it from the intro alone. Ok back to the video..
Becky you are pure GOLD!
HOW DO YOU MAKE ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP?? 😊
@angiebaggett all soap is antibacterial. They all slide germs 🦠 off of our skin.
Very nice job. Best and just what I needed .
