Yes, it's as easy to make as you show it here, and using it is such a pleasure! This soap has the creamiest lather, and it leaves your skin feeling clean and soft. One small word of caution: Be careful who you share this soap with - They will LOVE it and want more!!

the olive oil makes for a creamy bubble-less soft bar that moisturizes but does not clean very well. coconut makes for a very bubbly-bar that cleans very aggressively and can dry your skin. by mixing olive and coconut (usually 1:5 - 1:3 coconut to olive, you will get a decently hard bar that is creamy, bubbly, moisturizing and a good cleaning bar. A few things worth mentioning here for anyone new to soap making and considering giving this a go. 1, the recipe she uses here is a really decent all around good recipe. If you wish to experiment with smaller batches as you learn, there are several LYE CALCULATORS online. just google them. these calculators will allow you to add whatever amounts of different oils you want, and then calculate for you how much lye and water (or tea or goats milk) to use for whatever size batches you want to make. 2: olive oil is an oil that takes longer than other oils to reach trace. so if you want to get creative where you split your main batch of soap into smaller containers that can be colored differently and then re-combined into a single mold with swirls and streaks, this recipe is ideal as it will reach a light trace and you still have time to mix and pour. the more coconut oil or least amount of olive oil you use, the faster it will thicken to the point where you cannot pour it and swirl it easily. And 3: if you do not want to wait six weeks to try your soap out, mix your recipe in a slow cooker (one dedicated for soap and will not be used for food again). Follow her same procedures of using a stick blender alternating between blending and stirring until a thick trace is reached. thick trace will be the consistency of slightly watery pudding. once that is done, turn the slow cooker on low or medium heat, place the lid on top, and leave it alone for about 30 minutes. As it nears completion, you will see the soap rise on the sides looking somewhat translucent like vasolene. Use a wire wisk and stir it well and let it cook for another 10 minutes. when it is done, if you pinch a little sample and touch it to your tongue, it should only feel a bit waxy and taste a bit soapy. if you taste it and it 'zaps' your tongue slightly like touching a 9 volt battery to your tongue, then it is not ready yet and there is still some lye left that has not saponified. let it cook a bit more until it tastes and feels only like warm soapy wax. *note, the sample for this need only be very tiny. Once your soap is complete and safe, it will now be about the same consistency as mashed potatoes. turn the heat off, and let it sit and cool for about ten minutes. at this point you can add your super fats (like a tablespoon of jojoba or palm kernnel or lanolin etc). about a table spoon per pound of soap, your fragrant oils (you can use essential oils on this hot process soap since the lye is used up during the cooking phase and will not destroy the natural EO. cold process soap still has active lye in it and so will destroy some of your essential oil fragrances. for cold process soap, Fragrant oils (FO) may be a better option than all natural essential (EO). you can also add color at this point as well, before scooping your soap into your molds. Because the hot process soap is thicker like mashed potatoes, you can color it, but it is much harder if not impossible to get the fine lines and swirls possible with cold processing, however there are techniques that allow some swirling. Excellent video, a great introductory recipe for beginners! In summary, if you want to try your soap right away, simply follow this video but mix your oils and lye in your crock-pot/slow cooker instead of a stainless bowl, and then heat on low to medium for 30 - 40 minutes. hot process soap is ideal for those not looking to go fancy right away and who just want to make a good all natural soap bar you can use right away. ***last note- you can add a tablespoon of sugar to your water or tea BEFORE adding lye to your water, to increase bubbiness. if you add sugar after lye, the sugar will harden into gunk at the bottom, so dissolve the sugar in water first. ***final note: using goat's milk instead of tea or water is not as straight forward. get good at regular soap before attempting to use milk. the rason being is the lye and heat will scortch milk and ruin your soap. in order to make goats milk soap, the milk must be weighed and frozen before hand and the batch much be kept very cool. keeping your stainless mixing bowl inside another pot full of ice, you add your lye to the frozen milk, add your scents, blend it and mix it to trace as quickly as possible, pour into your molds, and then place outside in the winter time, or directly in your fridge to six for 4 to 6 weeks. it is not possible to hot process any milk based soaps.
Olive oil cleans just fine, that's why you get castile soap (100% olive oil). The mix of olive oil & coconut oil is a bastille soap and it is more cleansing, but some people are allergic to coconut, so the castile is more sensitive, and better for sensitive skin, including babies.

Olive oil, coconut oil soap is my fav. A batch that size I would make in a 3.5 gallon food storage bucket. (Less splashing)Also the meat or cheese thermometer works great.....easier to clean. This soap recipe retains all the natural glycerin and is non-drying. I even use it on my face. Don't forget to rotate and flip the bars while they finish curing (8 weeks). They will dry more evenly.

My wife and I used to make soap...it was awesome and a whole lot of fun :) This one batch we made had WAY too much oil in it (my fault...measured wrong lol) but we just poured off the excess oil and had the most amazing, most moisturizing soap EVER. Gave some to my sister-in-law, and it actually cleared up her psoriasis :D :D :D
@@SaturnCrashing Try rubbing affected areas with castor oil, leave it overnight, it's so good for eczema. Dairy, peanuts and wheat are not helpful for eczema.

Thank you for this tutorial for making soap. You are the only one that I have seen so far that show me step by step from beginning to end. Most of all the tutorials that I've seen that really have all the ingredients mostly mixed together before they start the video especially the part when they mix the lye with the water. That's the part that I was always confused about how to mix it with water
Finally someone normal making normal soap with instructions on my level. I actually felt like I was watching myself with a few more years experience, log home and all! Thank you, I am no longer afraid of the lye and I am going to finally make my soap tomorrow (today's 110 degrees and tomorrow is 87).

What I like about your presentation is that it gives the newbie or enthusiast that ' can do' feeling. I've looked at other soap making videos and yours offers one of the simpler, down home approaches that's very appealing to someone starting on their soap journey or someone who's timid to try it and feels intimidated by some tutorials that can make one feel that they need a degree to make soaps. Just an FYI, I have a soap business and make soap all the time. You should always weigh your oils no matter what. I have tested many times and the weight mentioned on the container the oil comes in is never accurate. It is always 1-3 oz less. If you do not measure you may get lye heavy soap.

Well I made 3 simple ingredients soap. Turned out so nice my husband went and called his sister at her house and told her how wonderful it turned out. She wants some now!!! I think it is truly beautiful white soap. I can't wait until it cures. I want to keep all of it. My sister wants some too so I will make another batch in a couple days. Did you just add powdered turmeric and in what quantity please? I use turmeric in food every day and love it's healing powers. Love Becky's videos too.
I'm making soap this weekend....I can't wait for the smells...I use rose oil because I love that girly rose smell. I actually made my own rose oil this time so, I'm excited to see how it'll smell in my soap. My son is gone, too, so I'm getting into making my own infused oils for stuff.....I made orange oil, lemon oil....It cleans good!! I have to mix it with a touch of polysorbate 80 to mix the oil and water. I've got a huge Rosemary tree. The thing is 6 foot tall!!! I had to get creative with how I store some of it for winter. I used olive oil and infused it with the rosemary and used it to cook with. Great flavor! Why not, right? I do an herb garden every year so, I'm trying to learn ways to keep them besides my dehydrator. I've been making my own candles....I love for my house to smell nice and candles have gotten so expensive I couldn't afford them!! I can make 8 candles for the price of one and it only takes me 35 minutes! I make all my family save their candle jars so I can wash them out and reuse. Happy New Year!!!!
You do still need to measure your coconut oil and olive oil because you do not get the amount of ounces that’s on the label inside of the bottle. If the label says 15oz you will only yield approximately 14.9 oz which will throw the recipe off.
Thank you, Becky. Your presentation is very intimate. Your instructions are very clear and simple to understand. This was my first time making soap and it came out great. I just tried your other recipe today (coconut oil only), and my wife came to watch the entire process. She is also excited for this next batch now. To check temperature, I just used our regular thermometer that we use to check fever, because that has an 'object' mode that goes up to 173 degrees. It is infrared, instant read, and worked out fine for soap making as well. Thanks again for putting up these recipes.
@@elenap3637 There are chemicals in strawberries and apples. Water is a chemical. The whole world is a bunch of chemicals. Lye is a naturally occurring organic chemical. Our bodies produce it. It's inside us. Good luck finding soap bars with no lye.

I just made the coconut oil soap, you weren’t kidding about too trace😂 i traced it a little bit too much and it was a bit difficult to get it in the mold😂it was fine though but man! It traced really quick! Love your recipes!👍🏿
anthony perkins did you add colorant to soap, if so how much powder? She shows a packet but does not say how much is in it nor a link as to where to get them. I bought a block. I am about to do this, all set up and I don't know if I will screw this up buy guessing on colorant. Looking through the comments, I don't think Becky answers stuff so I am really stuck. If you can help, I would be forever in your debt. This is my first time making, and reply greatly appreciated.
Did you know can pour your soap when it is only at a very light trace. It is much easier to pour at that point. Watch Royalty Soaps. She sometimes pours when her soap is emulsified. Love your soap recipes. You make it so easy for everyone.
I would HIGHLY suggest still measuring the oils & not just trusting the company. I measured out Trader Joes coconut oil and it was two full ounces LESS then what they marketed on the bottle. I opened another of their jars - same thing. That could have thrown off the Lye calculation & messed up my entire batch of soap.
Yes! Excellent point. This is known as an "industry trick". My sister has a product that is supposed to weigh 35grams and was told by numerous other businesses to only weight 34. Apparently it's a common practice to do this. Shameful really.

I got a bit lost in fluid oz ( as there are few types). This what I guess is the conversion to metric system Olive oil coconut oil soap recipe: • 29 FL OZ = 0.857 L Coconut Oil • 51 FL OZ =1.5 L Olive Oil • 11.8 oz = 330g Lye 29.5 oz = 826g Distilled Water
This reminds my of a real problem. When Canada changed form imperial to metric systems (around 40 years ago), a plane crashed, as the guys who provided fuel mistook kilograms for pounds, and instead of getting x kg fuel, they got x pounds fuel, which is less than half of the needed amount. It is even worse for fluid OZ, as there are 3 types of fl OZ....
This what I did. Weight measurements are easy to convert. But as I said multiple times, there are 3 TYPES of fluid oz (volumetric). Google has no idea what fl oz I need to convert. I need to chose, and I have no idea which one to chose.
I love your explanation my dear. Just wanted to tell you that aloe is a good thing to use on burns. It stops the pain, stops the skin from swelling, and speeds up the healing process. I have tried it when I got burned. A few of my family members work in the medical industry. Other than that. I love watching and learning from you. Love the flowers. You probably had a false trace and the soap wasn't properly emulsified. Maybe it was chilly in the room you were working in and the coconut oil tricked you. Watch Soap Queen.

Thank you for your video. I really appreciate the effort you put in the process of making it. You are a very generous woman to share the precise amount of ingredients. It’s not easy to find someone who does it; most of the people just show the process of mixing ingredients but not the amount. Therefore those videos are useless to watch and a waste of time. What I like about your presentation is that it gives the newbie or enthusiast that ' can do' feeling. I've looked at other soap making videos and yours offers one of the simpler, down home approaches that's very appealing to someone starting on their soap journey or someone who's timid to try it and feels intimidated by some tutorials that can make one feel that they need a degree to make soaps. Please continue to showcase your skills, there are those of us who appreciate your approach to soapmaking!
Just an FYI, I have a soap business and make soap all the time. You should always weigh your oils no matter what. I have tested many times and the weight mentioned on the container the oil comes in is never accurate. It is always 1-3 oz less. If you do not measure you may get lye heavy soap.

Well I made 3 simple ingredients soap. Turned out so nice my husband went and called his sister at her house and told her how wonderful it turned out. She wants some now!!! I think it is truly beautiful white soap. I can't wait until it cures. I want to keep all of it. My sister wants some too so I will make another batch in a couple days. Thank you for the wonderful gift of making soap. You are so good at explaining. I watch you on a regular basis but never trusted myself to make it. I did and it came out beautiful. Thank you dear.

I'm making soap this weekend....I can't wait for the smells...I use rose oil because I love that girly rose smell. I actually made my own rose oil this time so, I'm excited to see how it'll smell in my soap. My son is gone, too, so I'm getting into making my own infused oils for stuff.....I made orange oil, lemon oil....It cleans good!! I have to mix it with a touch of polysorbate 80 to mix the oil and water. I've got a huge Rosemary tree. The thing is 6 foot tall!!! I had to get creative with how I store some of it for winter. I used olive oil and infused it with the rosemary and used it to cook with. Great flavor! Why not, right? I do an herb garden every year so, I'm trying to learn ways to keep them besides my dehydrator. I've been making my own candles....I love for my house to smell nice and candles have gotten so expensive I couldn't afford them!! I can make 8 candles for the price of one and it only takes me 35 minutes! I make all my family save their candle jars so I can wash them out and reuse. Happy New Year!!!!
You do still need to measure your coconut oil and olive oil because you do not get the amount of ounces that’s on the label inside of the bottle. If the label says 15oz you will only yield approximately 14.9 oz which will throw the recipe off.
Yes you do have to measure your weights have to be exact or your batch will either be too hard and burn up or too soft and won’t set

Thank you, Becky. Your presentation is very intimate. Your instructions are very clear and simple to understand. This was my first time making soap and it came out great. I just tried your other recipe today (coconut oil only), and my wife came to watch the entire process. She is also excited for this next batch now. To check temperature, I just used our regular thermometer that we use to check fever, because that has an 'object' mode that goes up to 173 degrees. It is infrared, instant read, and worked out fine for soap making as well. Thanks again for putting up these recipes.

Lye is CHEMICAL a really bad one , that's why I will pass on this "natural" simple soap recipe

@@elenap3637 There are chemicals in strawberries and apples. Water is a chemical. The whole world is a bunch of chemicals. Lye is a naturally occurring organic chemical. Our bodies produce it. It's inside us. Good luck finding soap bars with no lye.

I just made the coconut oil soap, you weren’t kidding about too trace😂 i traced it a little bit too much and it was a bit difficult to get it in the mold😂it was fine though but man! It traced really quick! Love your recipes!👍🏿
anthony perkins did you add colorant to soap, if so how much powder? She shows a packet but does not say how much is in it nor a link as to where to get them. I bought a block. I am about to do this, all set up and I don't know if I will screw this up buy guessing on colorant. Looking through the comments, I don't think Becky answers stuff so I am really stuck. If you can help, I would be forever in your debt. This is my first time making, and reply greatly appreciated.
naw no color just the natural color. you should make Aleppo soap, that is fun to make and its green in color. Just order the Laurel oil from amazon.

Did you know can pour your soap when it is only at a very light trace. It is much easier to pour at that point. Watch Royalty Soaps. She sometimes pours when her soap is emulsified. Love your soap recipes. You make it so easy for everyone.

I would HIGHLY suggest still measuring the oils & not just trusting the company. I measured out Trader Joes coconut oil and it was two full ounces LESS then what they marketed on the bottle. I opened another of their jars - same thing. That could have thrown off the Lye calculation & messed up my entire batch of soap.
How interesting. All my recipes are super fat, so would still be safe, but good point not to trust the companies and double check. ❤️😀
Maybe they go by volume not weight? They would be in violation of labeling laws by the federal trade commission. You can tip them off if you wish.
I agree. I bought olive oil and it was not the amount listed on the bottle. I think they count the bottle weight.
Yes! Excellent point. This is known as an "industry trick". My sister has a product that is supposed to weigh 35grams and was told by numerous other businesses to only weight 34. Apparently it's a common practice to do this. Shameful really.

I got a bit lost in fluid oz ( as there are few types). This what I guess is the conversion to metric system
Olive oil coconut oil soap recipe:
• 29 FL OZ = 0.857 L Coconut Oil
• 51 FL OZ =1.5 L Olive Oil
• 11.8 oz = 330g Lye
29.5 oz = 826g Distilled Water

This reminds my of a real problem. When Canada changed form imperial to metric systems (around 40 years ago), a plane crashed, as the guys who provided fuel mistook kilograms for pounds, and instead of getting x kg fuel, they got x pounds fuel, which is less than half of the needed amount.
It is even worse for fluid OZ, as there are 3 types of fl OZ....
All you have to do is enter it into Google search and it will convert for you!
This what I did. Weight measurements are easy to convert. But as I said multiple times, there are 3 TYPES of fluid oz (volumetric). Google has no idea what fl oz I need to convert. I need to chose, and I have no idea which one to chose.
I love your explanation my dear. Just wanted to tell you that aloe is a good thing to use on burns. It stops the pain, stops the skin from swelling, and speeds up the healing process. I have tried it when I got burned. A few of my family members work in the medical industry. Other than that. I love watching and learning from you. Love the flowers. Maximum 4 % of total weight of soap. you can add perfume in this mixture if you have 1000 gram soap you can add 40 gram perfume oil in it
I just love how genuine you are. It makes my day. I just dont know how you can make soap just once a year. Itd be like Xmas for me. Tho i am a newbie, i LOVE making soap and have plans for shampoo bars, and general purpose bars. And laundry bars, not to mention my bath bars. Of course, i have 10 ppl in my house and i send stuff to my elderly FIL... so theres a big need for soap here. Lol

I covered my molds snd they reheated itself and turned back into a liquid😂dang covering the molds really Does keep the heat in to.

Could it be it wasn't properly emulsified before you poured into your mold?
You probably had a false trace and the soap wasn't properly emulsified. Maybe it was chilly in the room you were working in and the coconut oil tricked you. Watch Soap Queen.
