I think a problem may be that the average people who engage with your content don't actually engage in much critical content besides you. They expect you to basically function as an advertisement rather than a critic, because people like certain things as a product rather than a piece of art worth critically analyzing.
I definitely don't always agree with you but you are certainly a consistent and fair critic. I just feel like a lot of people don't want a fair critic, they want confirmation bias.

I think the reason why you're arguably the most prominent music reviewer on the site is because even when we disagree on the quality of an album, you bring up very valid points to support your feelings on whichever album is getting reviewed. I think that's what leads to people disliking your reviews. It's easy to dismiss criticism when it's so outlandish that it doesn't even make sense to engage with it, but when there's a hint of truth to it? That definitely hits a lot harder.

Let's just be thankful that the world's most popular music critic is actually a decent human being. I watched Fantano a bunch from 2013-16 and have only recently started coming back to the channel to see what he's up to lately. What impressed me is that he's still plugging away and basically sticking to the same format he had a decade ago. Obviously he's expanded the content offering with things like Let's Argue, livestreams et al, but the consistency in style and tone of his reviews is unwavering and that's proof to me that the only agenda he has is celebrating the artform and thinking about and sharing his love of music. I'm glad to see the channel continue to gain traction and I hope whatever annoyances come with increased exposure don't inhibit another ten years of great reviews. He's a real one.

There have been others I didn’t agree with, but it reminds me not to treat your opinions as anything less than honestly held and well thought out. The band’s album right before was almost perfect and I was pissed cuz I loved the band but I didn’t want to admit their latest album was boring. I eventually came to terms with it. You don't need to protect your reasoning. It's your musical taste, and you do the best to express your love or frustration towards certain music. There are some objective reasonings in music, but it's very subjective what you enjoy, what emotions it creates, how you use your imagination & what songs personally mean to you. Everyone should embrace their own personal opinion on what they love about music, considering other opinion as an option or advice, but never as a face value.

And while I love some stuff you have given negative reviews to, I have liked most of the things you loved and it really helped to ease me into new genres like metal. You have a great way to really break down what you enjoy in instrumentals or a vocal performance so even if an album sounds very foreign or weird to me the first time, I try to relisten and pay attention to some of the positives you mentioned. I've started to discover bands and albums on my own now, even ahead of your reviews and it's been a great experience. clipping.'s Splendor & Misery was the first project I found through your reviews, loved it and have been watching since. Also the thing that I think throws people off about your reviews is that people forget that it is literally your job to research music extensively. Like for something like Joyner Lucas' ADHD and Logic's Supermarket I don't think that they are the most sonically offensive, but you have likely heard every single song and album that those projects rather blatently rip off. And people without that context are like, "Well you're just a Logic hater", but like no they're just legitimately not adding anything to the sound they've hijacked. But they don't know that though.

i think some people miss the point of watching a review of something. it's not only about praise or advertisment, it's also a fair assessment and opportunity to help artists grow and change. it's okay to disagree and discuss, that's how our tastes can refine and advance, how we learn to appreciate things. there's no point of exchanging views when we're in a bubble of identical opinions. it would be weird to expect Anthony to always agree with us, not to mention every single human on earth has different taste in music and values different artists, so how could he ever please everyone.
a good critic isn't someone who confirms my opinions, it's someone who constructively and systematically goes through the piece of art and jugdes fairly its worth, always backing up his opinion with valid reasons and i feel like Fantano really tries to do all of those things. i appreciate his voice and I'm thankful for the opportunity to broaden my music horizons even if sometimes i can't believe how in the hell can someone think so differently from me. i really like how wholesome he is at the end of the day, the humor makes his reviews more lighthearted and interesting and how he always tries to promote lesser known artists. thanks for being with us for so long

For sure, there are assholes like that out there. But most people aren't like that.

While sometimes I don’t completely agree with every single review you’ve done. People fail to realize that it is your opinion and shouldn’t affect anyones view on that review. What I believe makes you a great music reviewer is how spread out your reviews are. If you have every decent to good album as a high review and every trash album a low score. It would become stale, not even and seem fake in a sense of your rating. The spread out scores allow for a more honest rating of that album. I’ve also noticed people will rate an entire album based on a couple of great songs even tho it has mostly mid songs. So to rate the entirety of the album equally and even the cohesiveness of every song to the next is a level of thought I like in the reviews. I think people are more judgmental and hateful of your reviews because your reasoning to why it’s that score has some truthfulness to it and more likely for them to get frustrated that you are somewhat right.

I will always respect someone who voices their opinions openly while also having legitimate reasoning for their way of thinking. I also respect anthony a lot for consistently releasing new reviews within days of a project’s release. However, I think there is an argument to be made about how reviews with deadlines like these could affect a project’s chance at a completely fair assessment. This is in no way to say that fantano “rushes his reviews,” in fact I’m almost saying the opposite. I personally need weeks, sometimes months of listening to a project to fully appreciate it in terms of the artist’s vision and intent, and I am amazed how anthony can make reviews as in depth as he does with far less time. Despite this, I feel time restraints often have a negative effect on a review’s outcome, as evident in his redux reviews, where 99% of the time, the redux receives a higher score than the original. Like I said, I have no problem with opinions that have legitimate reasonings supporting them, but it seems unfair when a project receives a lower score because of a missed message that it’s full experience hinges on. No idea what could be done to fix this, and I’m not suggesting fantano change anything about his process, just wanted to state my opinion on the matter.
