@ 3:33 I mention doing 1 of 2 things then proceed to talk about only one… oops. The other thing is they will over compensate with the hand and pull it into a late release anhyzer.

Suggestion: Throw the shot to start. Explain the parts of the breakdown. Throw the shot again after.
It lets people relate the parts to the throw they saw already then be able to see/grasp more the second throw (or just even the replay of the same throw)
I have always defaulted to FH on approach shots, because BH approached never felt comfortable - mostly because I always tried to use my drive form, but standstill. I can already tell this video is gonna change a lot of things for me! Thanks for the awesome content!
I went through a period where my default was a forehand approach too, mainly because I would occasionally early release my backhand approach shots at THE worst times! 😩 But I’ve recently been trying to bring my backhand back in, because except when I released early, I was really accurate with it. Josh’s tips here will be helpful, I’m sure.
You can tell he is an incredible teacher by the fact he gave amazing advice about throwing nose down, by explaining how to throw nose up, and making a joke about it in the process. This is fantastic.

this is so well done, it feels like cheating that we get to watch it for free! my approach miss is typically a grip-lock to the right, but visualizing playing catch with the basket has generally kept me close. i'm excited to incorporate the other tips described here to bring my approach game to the next level!
Don’t feel too bad. What I’ve been teaching in private lessons took 2 years to get on the channel. Lol

This concept is incredibly useful on wooded courses where you need to get through a small gap with some power (after shanking your drive into the trees). Disc-up to something a little understable and throw nose up.
This is SO HELPFUL. been early low and left on a lot of soft RHBH approaches recently. I was doin to much. Feeling like I had to do a short version of my stroke for drives.

This reminds me a bit of the OG closed-shoulder snap drill (I just watched it today so it's fresh in my mind). Specifically idea of removing the more powerful levers such as your hips and shoulder in order to gain that snap with mainly just one lever -- your wrist. I like that you also talk about how you line up differently on these approach shots vs. a tee shot. I tend to overcompensate and pull into a late release anhyzer. Lots of goodies in this video. I've been playing for almost a year now and I have to say. I never thought about using a driver for certain approach shots. But it makes total sense especially for those skip shots. You guys have really opened up my mind on the course thanks y'all.

To all the brilliant vids, this one I watched so many times😊 I had my first tournament last weekend and since my drives do not match 240m Par4 setups on a golf course my approach shots saved a lot Pars! I am using the Paradox and the Proxy and sometimes the Kapre. Better approaches reduce also anxiety in Putts😂

It was a standstill, but I had to throw it petty hard
I can get a berg out between 220-235 but typically only use it inside 200’ because of wanting more control. I like the berg inside 150 for forehand approach.

I really enjoy when you guys post this post like this because this kind of stuff really helps me think about my game. I would love to hear more about how you compensate for wind and when and where to throw understable versus overstable discs in relation to wind and elevation. That probably sounds goofy but like I really respect your guys's opinion and would love to see more of that. To that end I have to admit Josh, you have lost a crazy amount of weight and you look fantastic. Love to know what you did to pull that off off

I'm sooo greatfull you made this video! I always had too much excessive uncontrolled power, had no touch shots apart from spyke hyzers to control the distance 🤣 I can do 450ft standstills & it's very hard for me not to go long on anything less than 150-180ft 😬 Just tried this different grip now and it changes everything for me! Follow-up comment: I thought 200' was a bit of a stretch for this shot, but I'm now hitting 180's on a gradual sloping uphill... and I'm a sissy-armed newb. Popping that wrist is so important like you said, focusing on that pop is really helping me dial in the distance/lines. This shot is literally a game-changer. Thanks again!
Been struggling with upshot’s. I’ve been doing the exact awkward power drive stance and going past basket or being pretty short. Felt like I was uncomfortable with upshot’s, being lost in the sauce of what to do with my arm out and side stance. Gonna try this out, great video. Thank you for the clarity and God Bless.

I've learned nose-up approach shots by Ulibarri's tip, think of keeping your hands above your elbows
Too often did I find myself focusing on my form of driving and not on other aspects of the game. Practice these techniques and that nice approach shot will do miracles for you

Definitely fall into the AM mistake mentioned in the vid and approach shots are probably the weakest part of my game. Can't wait to give this a try.
I watched an instruction video that said to ALWAYS use a full backhand swing (like a drive) for approach shots.
Ironically, therefore I've been using that (standing sideways to the target) even though I've had good results when trying a form closer to this video.
The danger in listening to random videos - even when they can be persuasive at first.

Approach shots are the easiest part of my game. On point every time and never miss. It’s like playing catch at the beach. All done with my Berg.

Very timely video for me. I'm guilty of using tee pad form for approach shots, which turn out so awful I prefer to use a forehand. Definitely going to try this face on and wrist action.
Question, I saw you throw the last tee pad shot 200'. What were the distances at 4:00 and 4:20 ?

Yea man. Definitely has become my favorite approach disc. Everyone makes fun of me for putting with it but that made me embrace it even more.
What form should I be using for fairway drives? I don’t usually take a run up on fairway shots
Do you have any suggestions about when to use a forehand vs backhand approach? Assuming there's nothing in the way to block either, I feel a lot more confident just chipping a forehand up to the basket than a backhand.
Confidence is the biggest thing when the pressure is on. After that I would look at the green and wind
Anything under 200ft I throw my Zone, Proxy or putter. I tried the Berg, I like it but my problem is it only really had one use throw but that throw I could easily cover with other discs that I bag that have multiple uses.
The Berg works very well for me 200' and less.. jmo

ya i need to work on the upshots and stop just sending them on my field days. lol
I used to be a forehand-only player, but have learned to drive with a backhand. I still do the forehand approach shots as i cant manage to approach well with a backhand
My approaches used to be all FH too
For low-ceiling upshots I take my shiniest plastic and throw it upside-down. Every disc glides like a mofo when the dome is up. Putters are easiest, but overstable drivers work too if you need them to hyzer-bounce.
nice video thanks. do you think that going to the driver with ground play is better than an air bounce with the putter on the final low ceiling behind the tree? honest question.
Absolutely. I wanted to airbounce the driver too though. Nose up let’s me get the ground play there

People gotta play catch before rounds. Lotta this stuff is intuitive, we all know catch. We complicate it throwing at a basket for some reason
Unfortunately catch has become unintuitive for some disc golfers, but I agree that it’s a great drill obviously

I feel like all my shots when I try this are too nose up and go way left, is there a nice fix for this?
You probably need to lay off the pronation or snap through more
The downward thumb for nose up scares me. I've got the Michael Strauss Approach Method down, using the "wrist above elbow" to get the nose up. I'll stick with that for now... I will give this a try tho
What about an approach shot that requires you to throw straight at it, wouldn't you need to point your hip at it instead opening shoulder like you said?

I watched some footage of Henna Bloomroos recently and the commentators were talking about her approach shot style (think it was something like she goes slightly patent pending).
Any thoughts on her approach approach?
She shanked a couple really far left this weekend doing that. I think she’s making it harder on herself but it talented enough to make it work.
Since I got a glitch, it's pretty easy to leave the Berg on the rack
Great vid. The sound effect on the camera zooms is barely noticeable on a phone, but on a large speaker sound system it is way overkill and very annoying haha.

Hearing more about the "out swing" "side swing" would be helpful, please. It feels awkward, and breaking its technique down would be helpful. That said, facing the basket more like you said has me instantly draining shots I wouldn't have before. Thanks.
