    I met this guy in a field in my hometown. He was throwing into a net just focusing on something specific. I was launching discs just trying to remedy the problem that my drivers and mid's were flying practically the same distance. He asked if I wanted to be filmed in slo-mo. I said, "sure", thinking, not sure how that's going to help much, seeing how I have no real clue of how to throw. He shared a few things with me from the video, and I started beating all my PR's at the courses. I still have a lot to learn for sure, but this dude knows what he's talking about. I guarantee it.

    Great idea about the rope. I actually took some paracord and tied knots at it for 10-15-20-25-30-35-40-45 feet. Hadn't thought of using it for alignment too. Thanks for the additional tip.

    Great insight, great tips. The rope suggestion at the end would have saved me a ton of time haha. I was struggling with my putts for 2 months until I stopped focusing so much on the basket and really focused on my line-of-play to the pole. Getting my weight shift and arm on that line-of-play to the basket has improved my putting by A LOT. "Pizza in the oven!" for that flat release.

    From the future. This is a shout out to Robbie C and a put he pulled off in the content creators competition round a couple years back I think. Danny Lindahl was there, was the last time I saw him. OT was there, Mikey participated, Boggie Bros were there, some hot girl and Robbie C. I remember being kind of an anti-fan to one of the bogey bros at that time. It was because on a round with Paul Mcbeth, he looked like he went a little Niko Locastro because of his bad round wasn't to his expectations vs a legend. Anyway, that bogey bro had the camera on him as a reaction shot after Robbie C started doing his dancing thing. Instead of mocking him, that Bogey bro complimented Robbie on doing what it takes to get out of your own head. Instant 180, I was wrong about that bogey bro. Loved him for that instantly. I was on the fence about Robbie as well to be honest back then. But there was a moment where he was totally summoning something while he was lining up a putt. Drained it and I heard that bogey bro in the background congratulate Robbie on that putt. I think his perspective was a reflection of my own. That's always going to be the first thing I think of about Robbie C. It wasn't the ace that Conrad pulled off to beat Mcbeth but it was a great disc golf moment. A clutch putt like that. I could live on that for a long time. Nice one Robbie

    The push putt is not called that due to pushing up on the flight plate. Or at least I've definitely never heard that. If you're using your opposing thumb and middle finger to exert most of the force on the disc, then you are pulling the disc from the front in a snappy motion. That's not a push putt. A true push putt comes off with generally low spin and it feels like you're giving it a little spanking with your palm on the way out. You open your hand to the line and give it a little push from behind. It's true you can elastically load your wrist and get a little free pop, which helps add some spin and distance. But if you do anything more than elastically load it (i.e. you deliberately snap it) you're starting to leave the land of "push putting" proper. Maybe you think I'm too much of a stickler about this, but IMHO almost no one actually push putts (a la Feldberg) even if they think they do. It takes some effort to retrain yourself to putt without snapping your wrist because it's so automatic.

    Quick question: Do you think the size/type of the basket and the number of chains matters much when practicing? I'm looking to get a practice basket for field work and backyard use. I will need to drive to a field so something portable would be great but I can also throw a full size basket in the back of my SUV. Some baskets are PDGA approved with 24 chains, other baskets appear smaller than the PDGA with less chains (usually 12 chains). Since our local courses use PDGA approved with 24 chains, I am curious to know, from a muscle memory standpoint, if I practice with a smaller basket with less chains if it will affect my putting using course baskets.
    I hope my questions makes sense. Great videos, guys! I hope you continue making them.

    • @OverthrowDiscGolf
      @OverthrowDiscGolf  3 роки тому +1

      I don’t think it matters all that much. It’s more important to understand how basket differences will affect your putt IMO since courses have different baskets. Learn how to aim on yours and know where to aim on others.

    This was an extremely useful video. All the putting styles were very well explained. I liked that you gave examples of the pros that use each style. The rope aide or suggestion at the end was fantastic! I've always considered myself a decent putter (ie. I have a pretty high percentage inside the circle); however, something has been off the last few weeks in my tournaments. I decided to re-commit myself to my putting. After putting a rope down as you suggested and keeping my disc along the rope, I had instant success. I got instant feedback. My issue was that I was coming slightly off line. With the use of the rope, it allowed me to know without a doubt I was lined up properly and that I was pulling my disc back and releasing on the correct line. In no time at all my putting was fixed and I was hitting center pole consistently. Using the rope is such a simple thought, but one I never thought of. Thank you so much. Without a doubt, you fixed my putting. And you've given me a tool I can go back to time and time again if my putting falls off the rails again. My putting confidence is back. Thank you so much!

  • @gregrussell1787
    @gregrussell1787 3 роки тому +1

    Links to pros form, super valuable. I wish people would just straight up say it, spush > all. Spin helps with wind/distance. Push eliminates extra rotation to avoid left/right misses.
    I like the rope trick, much better than the sticks I used to line up. Drawing that straight line is definitely key, finding the right stance where you can comfortably impart spin while transferring energy from your back foot>hips>arm>wrist with minimal side to side.

    • @OverthrowDiscGolf
      @OverthrowDiscGolf  3 роки тому

      I have a feeling in a few years we will have more great spush putters than spin and push putters but it’s hard to say they are hands down better when you’ve got Ricky in the picture.

You hold the disc vertically in front of your face before you go into your throw. I was wondering what purpose this serves or if it is more of a comfort thing like basketball players do when they bounce the ball a certain number of times before a free throw.

    Until watching your video I never knew I was a S-Class Splush putter. With that in mind, it makes me question whether I am squaring up my hips and shoulders correctly.

      If your putt is good already, I wouldn't analyze it too much!

    The best thing I ever did was buy a basket put a 12' wide net behind it to keep fly aways close. Then I took peices of plastic and staked them in the ground every ten feet all the way to 100' for markers. Then I ordered 10 putters identical to my everyday one. Then practiced for 1 hour most evenings. Then when I was sinking about 5 of 10 at 50ft I started just practicing about 20 minutes. My putting got soooooo much better. Good luck to everyone in their journey.

    Solid tip video. Maybe do a follow up/part 2 that covers things like footwork, rear leg follow through, front toe, etc. When I moved to spush putting I couldn't figure out why I'd consistently miss my mark right until someone suggested pointing my front foot slightly to the left (RHBH) rather than straight at the basket.

      Yeah, maybe that’s better suited with videos working one on one with a student since it’s a little more individual? Not sure.

    Good overview. I'm definitely a spush putter. I think I naturally try to minimize my spin to reduce how far the disc can miss, but as I get more confident, I'll probably introduce more spin for consistency.

    I'd like to see a pt. 2, like more about what's effective in different putting scenarios, because most of the time I'm not trying to throw a straight putt into the basket. It's more like, uphill or downhill with some wind, and I'm not sure if I should try to lazer it into the chains or try to just lob it in the basket. I suppose a lot of that just comes from experience, but I can always use tips.

    Great video. Can you (or did you in another video) explain nose angle for putting? Like when to use nose up, nose down, flat, and how different wind would affect each nose angle?

    Extra pro tip. Make that rope 32 ft or 10m long and mark either each foot or meter. Now you have a way to reliably track your circle 1 percentages from each distance. I use Putt Meister app to track mine but there are other good ones out there.

    Man your videos are brilliant!! Im pretty sure ive watch every single discgolf tutorial videos on youtube and yours are among the very best 👍🏻 I usually accord a lot more credit to pros when it comes down to coaching but the more videos i watch the more i realise that most of the time they are a lot more gifted in throwing the damn disc than they are to communicate how they do it... you put the science into words just the perfect way, so keep up the good work its well appreciated!!👍🏻😎👍🏻

    Great tutorial, thank for breaking things down so well with just the right amount of info and footage! Great breakdowns of what the pros do as well, helps me understand what’s goin on there. Stuff I haven’t heard elsewhere. I will inhale on load and exhale on extension, great tip. Plus the rope 😁

      If you watch on a computer I think there is a CC button that allows for subtitles in another language. If that doesn’t work I can send you my manuscript for this particular video if you’d like and then take your chances with google translate

    Genius idea with the rope. Also to add, in observing the pros putt, their release point is hip to waist high with the nose angle slightly up. I noticed casual players like myself tend to release higher and the disc tends to sail or lose energy to drop before reaching chains
