Rare Bird was one of the FINEST bands to come out of Britain’s Prog Rock movement in the late 60’s-early 70’s…Why they didn’t receive more recognition, I’ll never know…👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
@@maxwellfan55 Most definitely! “Somebody’s Watching” by Rare Bird is one of my all-time FAVORITE albums! I used to play it constantly when I worked as a college radio DJ! I STILL listen to that album, too! 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿💥💥💥💥💥💥
There are quite a lot of great bands in the UK, USA and all over that were worthy of greater fame. The Beatles created a tsunami of bands that produced the greatest music era ever. The mid 1960s to the mid 1970s. There was so much music and bands with excellent original music and only so much radio time. It was hard to get on the radio. We were so lucky to have so much great music.
this song opens up memories of my dad driving his alfa romeo GT in the autostrada at 200kmh with 3 little kids in the back seat and the Rare Bird cassette playing! Still have the same tape some 48 years later
I was nearly that dad, years and years ago. I thought I had it under control. We all lived. No arrests. I don't drive at all anymore. LOL. Thanks for sharing.
Not only did the European broadcasters hold on to a lot of great recordings from this era, they also (unlike the BBC) allowed the bands to play live rather than miming or singing live over a prerecorded backing track.
Criminally underrated band. Found a 2nd hand copy of their first album way back in 1981 and have loved it since. Never seen this clip before. So awesome.
Here it is 2021, and this is the FIRST time I have ever heard this group!!!! Can't believe it, They are so GOOD!!!! I was just out of high school when this first came out, WOW!!!!!!
Steve and Dave, and a girl called Spook, lived in the basement flat at 38 Elm Park Road, Chelsea, when I was sharing the top floor flat. Nice guys, and very talented. 'As your mind flies by' remains one of my favourite driving albums.
Yes, even down to the tradition jazz stick grip. Rock drummers back then were more jazz influenced. Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Ian Paice, even Bill Ward to a degree.
@@vigilenci I was talking more rock drummers, not jazz rock ones who were already in jazz or jazz rock bands, like Hiseman who is great too, one of my faves. Also Robert Wyatt of Soft Machine, and John Marshall of Ian Carr's Nucleus and later period Soft Machine. So many in prog came from at least some jazz background. Carl Palmer, Bruford, etc

Had the Rare Bird album with this song and Sympathy as part of the record. Always thought they were great. Singer, I believe, is one of best of the early 70's and has virtually been forgotten. This might be the BEST piece of film I've ever encountered on YOU TUBE!!!! WOW GOLLY!!!! Now I feel like I've really seen RARE BIRD live and got that rare chance to peruse their equipage - a fetish of mine. Herein you will see why the incredible sounds of the 60's can never be replicated. In a word - TECHNOLOGY. This sort of equipment no longer exists not to mention the musical "chops" . . . i.e. the expertise.
There's a thing i love is when the live version of some bands sound diferent that the studio version, but without making the song bad, and this ones a fine example. I think that the only bands that never failed me on a live version were Blue Oyster Cult, Rare Bird and Pink Floyd.
Van der Graaf Generator's studio albums give a good impression of what they were like live. (It was definitely that way round, in my opinion, rather than the live performances being a possibly strained attempt to recreate something conceived in a studio.) I saw them live many times, and it was always a thrill.

I don't even speak about France... Shit on radio and TV since the 70

The distinctive features of the band's sound were
Steve Gould characteristic dramatic vocals, the absence of a rhythm guitar, and dual keyboards.
