I was 13/14 years old at the end of the 70s, I absentmindedly listened to this song on the radio! And then suddenly, the slap I took when at 1:10 the singer (Steve Gould, I would learn later...) changed the tone of his voice with incredible power! I have never forgotten the emotion felt at that moment and today I still get chills listening to this song whose lyrics are incredibly relevant today :
    Now half the world
    Hates the other half
    And half the world
    Has all the food
    And half the world
    Lies down and quietly starves
'Cause there's not enough love to go 'round
    Maintenant la moitié du monde
    Déteste l'autre moitié
    Et la moitié du monde
    A toute la nourriture
    Et la moitié du monde
S'allonge et meurt tranquillement de faim
Parce qu'il n'y a pas assez d'amour pour faire le tour

Oh, how I love this record. One of the first songs I ever bought. Reminds me of how lucky some of us are, how greedy and how needy some of us are. Why can't we co-operate, get on with each other, accepting differences, and help where it is needed without thinking about the fast-buck first? Seems like greed gets in the way every time!? One of my all time favourite records. Thanks for the opportunity to comment.

@@conanhayle relax attitude never made a dumb kid on itself. I hope you are not blaming the state of the world on today's kids while the world is still ruled by old greedy cunts.

    • @michellemobakeng5938
      @michellemobakeng5938 4 роки тому

@@conanhayle I understand what you mean by 'our relaxed attitudes'. You are so right. Each generation models after the previous ones ; if we have been bad examples, the next generation will add to that by pushing a bit more the boundaries set by their parents and society. Teenagers and children's attitude to authority is a response to our legacy. This generation and the previous one are going to make us pay dearly for our lax morals -- it has already started. Adults' selfishness has left them bereft of innocence, ideals, hope and purpose, particularly in the Western culture but other cultures are catching up.
Our parents would tell us to obey and if we would not, they knew how get the blood running to our heads for sense to return. They would not relent at their responsibilities to educate their youth in order to save them from themselves. But youth and hippies, at the time, did not know they were naive and that opposite them were standing wolves ready to tear them apart. UNFORTUNATELY, many have been torn apart and destroyed during that Flower power illusion and its slogan "Make love not war". Countless parents have cried the loss of their too-soon gone children. Obviously, the hippies (your generation) do not want to talk about it.
Still today, we refuse to believe there are evil forces we do not control that have vowed to 'devour' what is left of the youth. The youth of that era were deceived just like the one of this present age.

That's the problem with aging as we get older we tend to lose track of how much time has passed the hippie generations children are in their late 40s and 50s it's the boomers children that are responsible for the mindset of the kids today not the hippie generation the hippies are in the final stages of life their kids are middle aged just a thought ✌

Et la compassion est ce dont nous avons besoin
And sympathy is what we need my friend
Et la compassion est ce dont nous avons besoin mon ami
'Cause there's not enough love to go 'round
Parce qu'il n'y a pas assez d'amour pour tout le monde
No, there's not enough love to go 'round
Non il n'y a pas assez d'amour pour tout le monde

A great band, great music and great lyrics. They deserve a hell of lot more
: their lyrics are too poignant for the anglo american world. No wonder why they were famous outside it. I head them first when I was in Algiers. I came to Britain in 1974 and no one heard of tthe,

Now when you climp, into your bed tonight.
And when you lock and bolt the door.
Just thing of those, out in the cold and dark,
'cause there's not enough love to go 'round.
And sympathy is what we need my friend,
and sympathy is what we need.
And sympathy is what we need my friend,
'cause there's not enough love to go 'round,
no there's not enough love to go 'round.
Now half the world, hits the other half.
And half the world, has all the food.
And half the world, lies down and quietly starves,
'cause there's not enough love to go 'round
