    *This mower....... changed my life **Bestfor.Garden** also recommend I never thought I would see the day when I would ever make the switch to electric yard tools. But this was one of my best decisions yet. My old 15+ year old gas mower snapped its pull string while trying to get it to fire up and instead of fixing it, I chose to upgrade instead.*

    Just bought the new one. I think the reason it sounds lower in tone is because it has some sort of load sense. I've noticed when it gets to some heavy or dense grass it automatically speeds up. I guess this extends battery life. The reason I chose Dewalt over the others is due to the batteries that can be used in so many other tools. The mower is only going to be used for an hour a week at the most in the summer. All the rest of the time those batteries can be used to power an impact driver, circular saw or even a chain saw and a pair of 20V 10 AH batteries with chargers are worth close to the price you pay for the whole mower kit. Genius marketing because now I am vested in the entire Dewalt cordless power tool system.

    There’s a few items that I should clarify/add:
    1) I was unable to compare the actual mowing capabilities of these machines because we are currently in the middle of winter here in the northeast. I may be able to revisit this in a couple months.
    2) In the video, I make it look like folding the handle is more difficult than it really is. You should just twist each knob 1/4 turn and the handle is completely freed up to move. I don’t use that feature much, so I was a bit out of practice.
    3) The reason the two mowers sound so different is that the newer one has a higher torque mode that automatically kicks in under load. In my garage, it was not under load, so it was operating under reduced power to conserve battery consumption. The older 220 model always operates at the higher speed.
    4) With the older 220 model, if I let my lawn get too long, neither the mulching or rear discharge modes worked great. There were just too many clippings. In this case, you will want to bag your clippings. Also, thick grass is going to cut into your battery time by probably a third.
    5). DeWalt has also come out with a self-propelled version. I have not used it, but I would recommend giving it a lot of thought as to whether you actually need it. These are light mowers that are very easy to maneuver. In my opinion, you are better off going without and having your batteries go longer on the actual mowing.

    Great review. I really needed to see the parts included since I'm buying a 1 time used 233U and wanted to make sure I get all the parts included. I also wanted to add that I'm starting to shy away from the 60v tools. Mainly because of the new line of 20v tools Dewalt started making and because the 60v batteries are ⅓ of their amp rating when used in the 60v tools. I can get much more out of my flexvolt batteries especially using then on the 20v platform. The new flexvolt 20v line are very powerful and compare well to the 60v line, without eating up the flexvolt batteries.

    Thank you for very much for this comparison video. I have the old lawn mower (LM) acquired back in 2019 and after just 8 months of ownership the motor failed. I got in touch with Dewalt service center store and they replaced it with a new one (shipped to my home). The tech guy in the store also advised me to avoid having the blade hitting big rocks, concrete to avoid damage to motor.
    In your video, I noticed (hearing) that the old LM is noisier and sounds like running on higher rev. I also invested in flexvolt batteries with higher capacity so I could use the LM longer and at the same time use the flexvolt batteries with other tools (present and future purchase) that requires 60V. Look like the new LM is has been improved a lot. I will consider this one in the future and still I am waiting if Dewalt will make a Snow blower... must be still on the drawing board.

  • @207tips

    Regarding battery life: I currently live on a 1/2 acre lot. Once you remove the areas that aren’t mowed (house footprint, driveway, gardens, etc.) you are left with a front and back yard that are each about 6,500 square feet (slightly over 80’ x 80’). I use two 9 ah Flexvolt batteries for the front yard and need to recharge them to do the backyard. If the grass gets a bit longer than I intended, I need to bag it and I also use a pair of 5 ah batteries to finish the job. So, I would expect these new 10 ah batteries to perform slightly better than the Flexvolts. In fact, I’ll throw out a rough formula of 700 square feet of lawn mowed per amp-hour of battery charge, assuming you haven’t let the grass get too long or wet and that you walk at a fairly quick pace. So I would plan on roughly 7,000 square feet of mowing with these 10 ah batteries before you need to recharge them. However, keep in mind that I haven’t seen what effect the dual torque feature will have on the battery life of the new model.

      As he mentions in the comments this new unit has a low speed and a high speed that ramps up when you come into a more dense area. Which if you don't leave the grass for too long you'll be able to get even more out of this batteries because it won't be ramping up to high speed and it works just as good in low speed

I bought the 220 this spring and while I love the way it performs, the batteries run out of juice so quickly and it takes so long for them to charge I can't mow my front and back lawn on the same day. (And they're pretty small suburban lawns.) I would have loved the larger batteries and longer run time.

    • @207tips
      @207tips  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry for missing your comment earlier. No, that’s just the way the newer one is. it shows nothing until the batteries are done. The Gen1 is better in this regard, in that it shows you the status of both batteries, but ultimately you learn how far a certain battery goes on your lawn, so if you’re mowing the same place over and over, it doesn’t really matter.

      @207tips  11 місяців тому

      Fluid Film is a rust protection barrier product. It sprays on sort of like WD-40, but lasts longer. It is lanolin based and I believe it was originally developed for the navy. I spray it on any surface where I expect corrosion. I use it on the underside of a lawn mower annually. You can get it at Napa or online.

    Thanks

    • @207tips
      @207tips  2 роки тому +2

      I would buy that. That’s a great deal. They are different machines with minor things that I like on one verses the other, but Gen2 has much better battery life and is generally much quieter, so I wouldn’t hesitate to upgrade. Gen1 vacuums better because it always runs on high, but depending on conditions, battery life can be half of Gen2’s. I like not having the side chute on Gen1 for trimming, but the back discharge plugs up easier. I like the battery gauge on Gen1 better, but you learn how far any battery gets on your lawn anyway, so not a big deal. Good luck and thanks for watching.

  • @newgrounds8790

    Hello, Between Echo and DeWalt for outdoor tools using batteries such as Blower, trimmer and lawn mower, which in your opinion is the better value? which amp battery would you recommend and how long will a battery charge last? Thanks.

    • @207tips
      @207tips  3 роки тому +3

      Unfortunately I don’t have enough experience with Echo to offer a valid comparison between the two. But I can say that, since going to Dewalt’s Flexvolt system, I have sold my gas powered lawn mower, trimmer and leaf blower and have not started my Husqvarna chainsaw (I haven’t sold the chainsaw because a battery chainsaw only gets you so far on the bigger stuff). I also picked up the 20v pole saw and a hedge trimmer that work very well too. In addition, I have other needs beyond the lawn tools that make the Flexvolt approach a cost-effective solution for me, but it may be overkill for someone else. I would suggest taking some time to look into the full suite of tools offered by both companies though. It’s pretty nice to have the lawn tool batteries fitting everything else you may use.
      With regard to the battery recommendation, I have been using 9ah Flexvolts for most of the bigger power needs, but it’s convenient to be able to drop in a couple 20v batteries when you need to finish something up. These new 10ah 20v batteries look promising and, if they live up to the advertised times, then that dual-speed power level adjustment of the newer mower is a tremendous improvement. For a larger lawn, you will want at least 9ah or greater batteries.

    By far the best battery mower I have used this far has actually been the Craftsman 60v they discontinued at Lowe's but was able to get one one clearance @$199.99 down from $599.00. That things torque is way more the the top of the line Ego models and is all wheel adjust metal deck frame. I think they shared the same bodies as the Kobalt and Greenworks mowers.

      When mowing up leaves in the fall, I like to have the rear wheels one setting lower than the front. I also will sometimes set one side higher than the other on my Honda when mowing along the curb, to prevent scalping of the grass just behind the curb (which is taller than the curb).

    Those 10ah batteries use the new 21700 cells with a better discharge rate. They are pretty awesome and stronger than the flexvolt batteries actually. The flexvolt use 18650 cells still, at least in the smaller ones... So those 10ah are actually higher quality cells...

    I have a 60 volt, flexvolt, brushless weed eater and chainsaw. I was planning to add a mower but now I find out that DeWalt does not make a mower that is compatible with the 60 volt system. Marketing and management missed the boat on that one.

      I use those tools in the 60v version as well. The mowers work fine with flexvolt batteries, but I agree that they should let you pair the flexvolt batteries with one of the newer mowers when you buy it.

    I just looked at these today at HD....
    I bought a battery powered DeWalt trimmer last year...love it!
    I was thinking about a battery mower. The ones I looked at were Self propelled.... Was that new one you were showing self propelled?
    My yard isn't that big I would like to think I could do both front and back on one charge.
    Back yard= 80 X 30 feet
    Front yard= 80 X 50 feet

    • @207tips
      @207tips  3 роки тому

      The one I reviewed was not self-propelled. I generally do no not like self-propelled mowers as they add weight and affect maneuverability while trimming. By the sounds of your yard, I’d wait for one without it. I also agree that you should be able to mow it all with one charge.

    • @daveevans7438

      @@207tips I did go ahead and purchase the DeWalt self-propelled unit.
      I've used it about 4 to 6 times already.
      LOVE IT!!!
      I don't need the self-propelled option but my wife wanted it in case she felt like mowing 🙄
      That hasn't happened.
      But it's light and easy to push without it.
      And most of all it really does do a good job.
      One charge will mow my lawn two to three times.

    What would you say if I told you that you just reviewed a Ryobi 40V 20" Self-propelled and a Ryobi 40V HP 21"? They're literally the exact same thing, same sound, same platform. I've sold 100 of both, but one brand costs 40% less.

    Just bought this model. Fully charged the batteries and fired it up, ran for about a minute and stopped. Checked batteries, still full charge by the gauge. Swapped battery position, ran for about another minute and stopped again. Anyone else having issues with the mower like this? Waiting on a response from DeWalt customer service currently.

      Haven’t run into anything like that yet. If you’ve verified that the blade is clear and nothing’s wound up on the shaft, maybe check that the safety key is fully seated (although that would typically just not start if it wasn’t). Could be a battery issue. Let us know what you find out from DeWalt.
