- Good after Friday, Drum Nerds hope you're well. Today we experience LOVEBITES - Eagle Fly Free - DRUMMER REACTS. I can honestly say, this blew me away and can't wait to listen to more and get deeper into the LoveBites rabbit hole....or rather wolfpack hole 😜
You have all taught me so much and I look forward to hearing even more about the meaning, reason and story behind this song. Haruna is one absolute powerhouse behind the kit and really does take things to another level.
Though not always displaying overly complex parts, it's this very thing that shows off how much she fully plays for the song and makes everything sound 10x better.

Love this cover and absolutely love this band and Haruna!! (Drummer) It amazes me how Haruna can keep the double kick going for so long and so fast. I would not make it through one of their songs. Thank you for reacting to this video.
Fans often ask " why no drum solo ". Are you kidding me. Every song is a Drum Solo. Do you hear that cymbal and tom play she employs.....Technical genius and in a very up-tempo realm. Goddesses all of them Literally.
The one disappointing point about this performance is that Haruna, the drummer didn't use (spin) her star-shaped cymbal.
The fact they did this note for note cover of one of their idols classic song is great. Helloween was the band Haruna said she would most want to sit in with. @@DRUMNERD Be curious when you check out the original what your thoughts are. Much as I love Princess Haruna and she is an excellent writer of her own parts, credit to this goes to the late Ingo Schwichtenberg. He was one of her influences and she was doing him justice in this. Sadly Ingo suffered from some mental illness and committed suicide at 29.
@@jamesgreen5431 Haruna's introduction to Helloween was Master of the Rings album (1994), after Ingo was fired. Uli Kusch was the drummer on that album.

I remember buying Keeper of the Seven Keys albums as a kid and being impressed by the thunderous drum sound. Poor Ingo. Being a rock star obviously didn't mix well with paranoid schitzophrenia. Still, I think he would have enjoyed this amazing cover version.
give some credits to Helloween too, they did it 1988 as a pioneers of power metal :) also they had male singer

Hey Colin, awesome reaction. I really appreciate that you are listening to the many nuances within the drumming and explaining them to us. Most of these we never really hear because we're listening to the more dominant instruments. I have loved Haruna for a long time. I imagine that she is capable of much more than she has shown with Lovebites, but I believe that she plays a very strong role to anchor the band along with Miho. Her steadiness allows the guitars to add their complexities while always knowing where they are with the backing rhythms. As a long time drum lover, I am really looking forward to your next videos! 🇨🇦🥁🏒

Haruna is a 4'9" powerhouse on drums. great drummer! You mentioned Frank Zappa so you must know the amazing Terry Bozzio, his daughter is also an awesome drummer playing with all female Japanese band ALDIOUS. Marina Bozzio is also a powerhouse with her triple bass drum set up and well worth checking out. Cheers

These women are extremely talented, skillful and exceptional musicians. Thanks for your analysis from a drummer perspective. In this case, they did an excellent cover of Helloween’s original song. Japan has so many excellent musicians, male and female.

Haruna/drums gets to play her favorite band (Helloween) and Lovebites took this song and made it their own. Honestly, I like Helloween but this version from a musicianship point of view is no contest. Miho/bass and Haruna/drums actually get some Shine Time, that is a rare especially for Haruna!!!! Haruna is great drummer who is often overlooked when you look at all the great J/Metal drummers and the many great Jazz drummers in Japan. However, while she isn't a ball of energy like Junna she is a mini dynamo back there and it is her and Miho who drive this band from start to finish. Haruna makes the Energizer Bunny look anemic, no effort, no sweat, and always smiling as she beats that kit like it stole her boyfriend from her!!! BTW Lovebites has much of their offerings with uplifting lyrics and positive messages.

Great Reaction Brother! What cracks me up about this drummer is that she looks likes she's 14 but she's been around for a while. Believe her name is Hiruna? So many Japanese girl band's so many names. She was in Destrose wich pre dates LoveBites. Also a couple of other band's! Maybe playing drums keeps you younger! Don't know I play guitar! As far as the positive lyrics most Lovebites songs are positive. Rising in particular and Haruna double kicks the crap out of that one. Helloween also has many many positive or comical song lyrics. Rise and Fall, Dr Stein, Perfect Gentleman spring to mind. Haruna played that clear Pearl kit for a long time. On their most recent concert tour she switched to a more shallow kit so she could see and be seen better.

I was in high school a gazillion years ago when "Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I" and the original song was released (1987). I was listening to this song in an airplane flying over Montana "in the sky the mighty eagle doesn't care about what's illegal" when I realized illegal (ill eagle) is a sick bird. The bad puns have never stopped.

Great job man! She did a great job on the drums man! I couldn't agree more! This song is the anthem of Power Metal. I'm 14 and it was a long time dream for me to record this song. It took me so much boring double bass endurance practice man! And so I can say she's a beast!🤘🤘🤘
Am a huge Lovebites, Band-Maid, and Nemophila fan, have their t-shirts and whatnot, and digging your takes on them. Subscribed. By now you've noticed that there is something in the water in Japan that is churning out so many top level drummers. Among the top drummers would be Senri Kawaguchi. You'll love her vids. Yoyoka is also well worth a watch. She doesn't play drums "well for a kid". she plays better than the majority of adults, and has a ball doing it. She does a lot of covers (from Toto to Deep Purple and everything good in between), and has her own original stuff too. Was voted in the top 500 drumers in the world a year or so ago. And not even a teenager yet. Then another top level Japanese drummer lady to watch is Kanade Sato (she lost a drumming competition to Senri some years ago, but to be fair, Senri is tops and Kanade was still young.)
Also, will add another J metal band - Unlucky Morpheus. Some of their songs have a drum camera version (General top recommendations of them would be Knight of Sword, Black Pentagram, Unending Sorceress, Cadaver Revadac. There's a violinist in there too)
Ok, getting carried away, there are just too many J bands to mention, but there are some math rock bands there too that you would probably like, like Tricot. Suspended 4th also has some god drums. You'll notice the Japanese are real good with blending genres.

You have to keep in mind that this is a cover, so you can't credit them for the lyrics. Most original Lovebites songs feature positive and uplifting lyrics as well though. Their guitarists probably stand out the most at first, but that shouldn't come as a surprise when a band has such a fantastic guitar duo. Their rhythm section has to be extra tight though, as both guitarists are doing their own thing during huge chunks of their songs and the more you listen to them the more you will appreciate what Haruna and Miho are doing. Also check Gojira. They have a pretty unique sound and their drummer Mario Duplantier is considered one of the best drummers in metal today. For a good reason. The Gift of Guilt (live) is a good start.

And i was lucky enough to see him do a 31 minute drum solo during moby dick which had the crowd going crazy. next would be tommy aldridge and neil peart. have a great holiday.

Haruna uses the bell more than I think any other drummer I've seen. In Signs of Deliverance ua-cam.com/video/ZFNrk19fKgg/v-deo.html from 3:39 to 4:00 is the most awesome 20 seconds of LB music with a tiny section of Haruna hitting the bell 8 times as an accent and it is a dead perfect addition for that piece. Perfect demo of how a bell can be used. IMO the best twin guitar stuff M&M (Miyako and Midori) have done also
If you do Aldious do the new live version of an older song "We Are" with new and hopefully permanent singer "Maki Oyama" it shows a lot more of Marina than the older MV version
I'm glad you enjoy this song. Since you're a drummer, I recommend lovebites songs with groovy tempos. I mean they don't always play fast like that.

Since you brought up Frank Zappa, you should react to the Japanese all-female band Aldious. Their drummer is Marina Bozzio, stepdaughter of Terry Bozzio, who used to play with Zappa.

they are perfectionists. and miyako, the "cool" guitarist, is a musical prodigy. all of them had a classical musical education. miyako plays piano on pro level, and is a brilliant composer (around 70 % of their songs) and arranger. and all others are composing too. their musician masterclass is obvious. but their strongsuit is composing. with them even powermetal doesn´t sound stale and uninteresting like with most powermetalbands. in their backcatalogue of around 50 songs you won´t find a single bad or even mediocre one.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems to me that in order to evaluate the performance of a song, it is better to listen to the entire song first, and only then analyze individual moments. 🐺
