Well, the piano is actually her first instrument. She started playing it at the age of 3 and studied it to concert pianist level. She was already 18 when she felt she needed some kind of challenge and tought herself to play the guitar from books. You should also take a look to her bass and drum playing skills 🙂
Love how with the song written in the major key, and she changed it to the minor key going into that slow interlude to give it the feeling of some sadness, and then returns to the major key with the powerful, upbeat closing.
Being a musician, I think you'd get a lot out of her recent video which shows her practicing Liszt's La Campanella on her piano. It's really interesting to watch her approach, and the improvement in her playing over the time she practices.
Yes, I watched that video as well. It's inspirational to see the time and effort Miyako devotes to her music , so as to make the final result look easy to the casual observer.
Like The champ of Medium said : " we are privilege to live in the age of Miyako " love the way you guys "nerd out on music " as a metal/rocker - my first classical cd . 🤘🔥🔥🔥🐺🇿🇦🤘
We just watched genius at work. Truly her fingers float over the keys with such grace and precision and her timing is stunning. To interpret what is a near 40 year old power metal song with such beauty is mind-blowing. I am almost certain this is take for the EP recording too... there's no way to play to track for the video. WOW.
Are you familiar with the channels of vkgoeswild and Gamazda? I just discovered them a few days ago, but the piano covers/arrangements I've heard by them so far have been impressive. If you don't already know these channels, but are curious, I'd recommend to start by checking out their renditions of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" and "Fade to Black". While vkgoeswild's approach seems to be more aggressive or wild (as the name already suggests) - in a cover of a song by Carcass, she even broke a string! -, Gamazda's approach seems to be a bit more refined (if this is the right word), but that's just my impression. I also think that Miyako has done an excellent job with her arrangement of "Eagle Fly Free". I'm curious how the other piano covers will turn out.
I love your jaw dropping in amazement during that solo section. That section gets me every time! I can't believe I'm going to see her play this and other songs live. I just found out today that I got a ticket to her piano recital in Nov. The timing was perfect, I was already going to be in Japan to see Band-Maid at the Yokohama show.
@@cepho8349 Not to rub it in but I applied again and got a ticket to the other Miyako show and won. So I get to go to both shows! This trip is going to be amazing!
To appreciate more deeply the genius of Miyako, I searched YT for piano covers of this same song. First, they were few and far between (I think this speaks to the challenge). Next, when you compare her interpretation and arrangmement to the two I found, you realize what sets her ... and by extension LOVEBITES ... with respect to their consistently exceptional composition and arrangement - regardless of whether their style of metal is your preference or not. Miyako said in an interview that she composed this and several other Lovebites’ songs to one day be accompanied by an orchestra (Think Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony concerts). This is also evident from her most recent compositions in their Judgement Day album, and from Dystopia Symphony (an ‘insane’, classically infused, almost 7-minute long masterpiece to which few have reacted ua-cam.com/video/YkiRGfw572U/v-deo.html). Also, "Above the Black Sea" paraphrased elements from Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto. Metal and classical music are more closely related than most people realize. This may sound weird at first, but if you watch documentaries on the foundations of classical music, e.g. Bach's, these speak to how "rebellious" and disruptive his music was back then (reflecting Bach’s temper tantrums) in the church! FYI, Bach spent four weeks in jail for his protests and "obstinate" behavior. So, those today who praise classical music as “cultured” while simultaneously consider heavy metal as obscene could benefit from lessons in history.
Just like you, I also looked for other piano covers of this song and wasn't impressed with what I heard, whereas I really love Miyako's version. Being a fan of "old" Metallica (up til MOP), I'm now very curious to hear Miyako's piano arrangement of "Battery". So far, I have found three. Two of them don't do much for me (one already stops after 1 1/2 minutes), but the following version by vkgoeswild (it has a better sound than her first version) did impress me: ua-cam.com/video/Pdlchqhv7uY/v-deo.html I only learned about her a week ago, because someone had requested a live performance of her piano rendition of "Master of Puppets" in a livestream of another reactor. The most "extreme" metal song she has covered is probably one by Carcass - in a live performance, which is also to be found on her channel, she even broke a string. While I think that vkgoeswild tried to maintain the aggressive character of "Battery" in her piano rendtion (after all, it's a Thrash Metal song), I wonder what Miyako's approach will be and if resp. how far she will change the character of this song
Nice Reaction Wave. Miyako's EP will be released on 6/21 (I pre-ordered :0) ). Here is the list of songs she has reimagined as classical piano pieces - Battery (Metallica), The Loner (Gary Moore), Far Beyond the Sun (Yngwie), Burn (Deep Purple), Addicted (Lovebites) - and of course Eagle Fly Free (Helloween) She is also having a Recital @ Tokyo FM Hall in November where she will play all of those - and More..
Great reaction Wave, there are few others have reacted to this but so clueless. They kept saying that it doesn’t sound like the original. Wave, you are more than qualified to analyze this piano rendition
miyako started playing the piano at the age of 3, and it is a combination of talent and hard work that she has achieved what she is now. I wouldn't be surprised if you think her piano skills are as good as guitar🙂🤘🏻🐺🤘🏻
Well done, Wave....and how could anyone not appreciate the quality of this arrangement and performance!! Yes, those simultaneous dynamics at both ends of the keyboard and those fast runs are so impressive to a non player like me!! Also need to say that I really appreciate the quality of sound on your videos! Cheers! 🤘
Best reaction to this brilliant arrangement I've heard so far, and I've watched them all several times. Grace, beauty and virtuousity. Miyako is a genius and doesn't ever toot her own horn, but we will do that for her. Thanks Wave!
When you consider that Miyako has been playing piano for 30 of the 33 years, she's been alive....😮 In November, she is doing a piano recital. One of the pieces she will be playing is " La Campanella " by Franz Liszt. It's one of the most difficult piano compositions ever composed. Years ago, her piano teacher insinuated that she would never be good enough to play it. 😂 Look at me now !! 😏❤️🎹😎🤘
@lonniekramlich6241 Hello, excuse me from Japan. ☺You definitely watched Miyako's channel but seem to be misunderstanding a little. Miyako never said that she is planning to play "La Campanella" at her piano recital. There's a slight possibility, but hardly. She just started to practice it for the band's concert. For someday in the future when they would perform "Lost In The Garden", she wants to play "la Campanella" just like Chopin's etude as an intro for "Swan Song". And about her piano teacher, English subtitle in MIYAKO's Channel says," it's impossible for you", but translate accurately according to Japanese subtitle, he (or she) said, "It's too early for you" or "You're not ready yet". IMO, he didn't mean to deny her. Just FYI and for the piano teacher's honor's sake. 😊
@lovezhangyan well, nothing aggravates me more than being wrong, so thanks for setting the record straight. I try to promote Miyako, the band, and any endeavor she wants to attempt.
@@lonniekramlich6241 Thank you for your reply. I love their music and their personalities so much. As a Japanese fan, I really appreciate and respect for the support of the fans abroad like you. 😊Please keep going!🤘
Thank you Wave, I've been waiting for you to react to this, and you didnt disappoint! Best analysis I've seen. btw, when you noted "tone shift", she then incorporates both a guitar and bass solo from the original, seamlessly. Her arrangement skills and playing are next level, just breathtaking.
she is so good :))) so many years of work to achieve this level, this is mind blowing , respect . And she has a Python and a owl in her house , that's scare me lol ^^
A classical piano arrangement of a classic metal song that sounds both classical and metal. It shows that she's been playing since she's been 3 years old, focused on classical. Can't wait to receive her piano EP so I can hear what she does with Metallica. And to think she picked up a guitar at 18 and self-taught herself.
She started learning piano at the age of three and achieved master level. If I remember correctly, she started playing the guitar at the age of 18. An incredible talent.
Hermoso!!!, I have heard this arrangement daily since the premiere, I can’t wait to hear “Battery” from Metallica, I can’t wait to hear the whole album from the LOVELY Miyako, we love you both Miyako and LOVEBITES. ❤
What she actually did, was to lead us through a magical tour through the history of classical music. She weaved in elements from Baroque to Romantics, you could here influence of many classical composers, like Bach, Händel, Beethoven, Schumann and even Haydn in that hymnic part. The masters would probably sound like her, nowadays.
I can't wait for the rest of this to come out. I could be wrong, and I hope not, but I thought I read somewhere (possibly in another reaction) that she does Master of Puppets. If that is true, I can't wait for this !!!
@@dg3258 Thanks for the correction. I also can't wait to see what other songs she covered on the piano. I am not one to really listen to the piano, but on this song, I could hear Halloween and Lovebites through her playing. I was truly amazed.
A very beautiful piano as well. I know at home her piano is black, so this was probably brought in for the video, although she may very well have recorded on it. Her interpretation was awesome, and I loved the quiet but melodic section, a lot of passion there!
Love the thumbnail (of course also the reaction!), but I think it would have been even funnier, if you had replaced the stars either by 🐺 or (since the original is a song by Helloween) 🎃.
