Is there not a law there that motorists need to slow down passing a police car with lights on? Here in Alberta, Canada there is a specific law for that. Back in 2005 an RCMP Officer friend of mine was killed while pulled over at a scene on a busy highway - with his lights on. A transport vehicle smashed him from behind (full highway speed - not paying attention). And not long after that, the law came into affect - that speed had to reduce to 60 kph (about 37 mph) while passing.
@@maxwellmelon69 Penalties and tickets in U.S and Canada are way to small to be effective. Where I live the cops gave up enforcing anything and government raised the speed limits since everyone was going way over the speed limit anyways. Roads and drivers are worse then I've ever seen in my 30 years of driving.
@@thekatmann9730 There is an Arizona law that does state move to the right for all vehicles with flashing lights. If unable to do so, reduce speed to 20 mph less than the posted speed limit. That said, the violator pulled over to the right, making it difficult. Secondly, it would require a second officer on the stop to enforce. Periodically, they do an education/enforcement campaign and run officers in tandem to create awareness. Many people are ignorant of the law and/or just refuse to do what they should. Case in point, pull to the right when being stopped (also an Arizona law).

@@BK-zb7iw You'd be correct. I was standing on a public sidewalk talking to a friend and had a cop try to trespass me from the sidewalk because I was blocking it, my friend wasn't, just me apparently. When that didn't work he said he would arrest me for loitering if I didn't move along. My question was how can a kid who's 130 lbs wet block a 22 foot wide sidewalk? I had a lady rear end me in traffic one day. We pulled to the side of the road and she wouldn't give her insurance info so the cops were called. 3 sheriff's deputies showed up and about 5 minutes into the deal they said they wanted us to move the vehicles into a parking lot up the road so I did. The Harris County deputies all disappeared and so did the lady who hit me. I'm not suggesting it had anything to do with the fact that they were all of the same ethnicity which was different from mine but I find it odd. They left me with nearly $2k in damage to my car. I was in the local twisties and saw a guy crash his bike. He was ok but the bike wasn't and it was blocking the road on a dangerous blind turn. Since I lived close by I went home to get my trailer so I could get the bike out of there, get the guy and his bike home, and get the road opened back up and safe. When I returned I saw a deputy coming from the other direction and asked if he could slow down traffic in that blind turn so we could get the bike safely loaded. The deputy literally said, "No. And then told me he was going to cite me for obstructing a roadway if I don't move my truck and trailer." Then he sat there and watched. Had it been them dealing with the mishap they would have closed the road down in both directions and it would have taken an hour to clean up. I could go on but yeah, cops have taught me who and what they are and I don't trust them for a second.
Deputy Frank is the voice of reason! As an Army MP a long time ago I remember calibrating our gun with a tuning fork! lol I’m sure there was a more formal calibration process though, because I issued a lot of radar speeding tickets!

@peterbartley7183, several years ago, I had a young cop tell me that their new (electronic) speedometers never needed to be calibrated. I didn't say anything, I just looked at him and walked away. (I'm a mechanic, and I know better.)
I graduated back in 1979, Drivers Education had a State Trooper come and show us The car , The Trooper showed us how he checked his radar for accuracy, he had two tuning forks one for 35 mph one for 55 mph. The radar back then was attached to drivers side rear window and was about 18 inches long and about 5 inches across, pretty hard to conceal.
@gregmoyer8959 A common scam was that they would have extra tuning forks for different speeds and they could set your speed at anything they wanted to. 65,75,85, etc.
@@mikesmith-po8nd Tuning forks are for QC (verifying calibration) not calibration itself. A fork is designed to represent x MPH. When struck and put in front of the unit, it should display the correct speed so they know the unit is working properly.

I was always told by my driving instructor in Australia, when pulled over by the police turn your engine off and remove your keys. I have done that for over 20 years. Never been pulled over for speeding because I leave early so I am never late. When I am asked to stop it us for RBT or random breath testing. Had over 50 of those and laugh each time because I don't drink alcohol. And I have been pulled over for safety checks because I was a nanny and had baby seats in my car. That I had checked every year. I am thankful for our police here in Tasmania. Only had one bad encounter with our local policeman. He was hated in our town and when finally moved on the town was at peace again. Our local officer now is well loved and she and her child are often invited to people's homes around town for tea. Her son has lots of friends and is a little gentleman
Same here. I iturn the engine off, roll down the tinted windows and I turn the inside lights on if it's at night. And, of course I rest my hands on the steering wheel. I keep my paperwork all together so I can access it on top of everything else in the glove box. I rarely get a ticket and my traffic stops usely take less than 5 minutes.

Well done Frank, giving the lady driver a warning. We also had that discretion for minor offences back in the 60s. If they turned nasty it was rare they would get a verbal warning. We also had a certificate of accuracy for our radar units issued by our technological section plus also an accuracy certificate for our vehicle speedometer. Bob. NZ.
I as a man have NEVER gotten a warning, even for a headlight out that I did not know about. I had to take a day off from work AFTER getting it fixed to go to court to have PART of the ticket taken off.
@mikeadams8027, where I live, we usually get a "fix-it ticket" for things like a burned out light bulb. You've got 3 days to fix it and then you go to the cop shop and they will check it and void the ticket.
@@mikeadams8027 Hi from New Zealand Mike. Our procedure for vehicle defect offences (lights) would be to initially ask the motorist if they were aware the light was out? If they replied in the negative, ( 'No'.) then they immediately had a defence. An instruction would then be issued to have it repaired without prosecution. Obviously, a light bulb can blow at anytime unbeknown to the driver, including on Patrol cars. Bob NZ.
One of the video he actually gave someone doing 24 over a verbal warning. The driver was caught doing 24 over and had multiple violations over a decade ago and was a felon. He got his freedom back, his gun back after taking care of it, and he his driving privilege back and turned his life around.

Good explanation of calibration procedure by Frank. Certified calibrators using calibrated equipment to check calibration on Frank's radar and lidar. And the calibrator's calibrated calibration check equipment has to be checked periodically by, you guessed it, someone licensed and using calibration equipment, which in turn in checked periodically, all the way up the calibration chain to the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) which is the authority in the U.S. responsible for maintaining specially calibrated equipment checked against absolute physical standards which is used to calibrate downstream calibration equipment and so on and so forth until it gets to Frank's radar and lidar. That same calibration chain is maintained for all equipment in the U.S. used for commerce and legal enforcement, such as gasoline dispensing equipment, weigh scales, speed measurement equipment like Frank's, etc.

It’s absolutely amazing how fast the cars were traveling by Frank when that lady pulled off to the left side of the road which was the “WRONG” side!!😮
@@thekatmann9730 unfortunately, it's not a law in a lot of places in Canada and U.S. But people should do it as a common sense thing to do.
Florida you must move over or slow way down..,,both are not followed…that includes even for utilities workers and emergency workers
This Officer is SO PROFESSIONAL, well done SIr!!!!

I hate to disappoint you, but our sheriffs are allowing the complete takeover of our guvts AND our freewill...and so far doing NOTHING that I see to help us one bit. And that is absolutely PATHETIC.

As an Army MP a long time ago I remember calibrating our gun with a tuning fork! lol
I’m sure there was a more formal calibration process though, because I issued a lot of radar speeding tickets!
Daily calibration of radar with 2 tuning forks - at the beginning of every shift... I remember it well. Yearly calibration by the tech department.
lol
I think the tuning fork is to TEST the calibration, and is not itself a "calibration" for adjustment. It’s pass/fail.
I am very happy you are monitoring school zones. I have seen many violations. The other one is around school buses. The kids are most vulnerable then.
It is amazing the time and effort people use to try to get out of just accepting responsibility for their actions.

@gregmoyer8959
A common scam was that they would have extra tuning forks for different speeds and they could set your speed at anything they wanted to. 65,75,85, etc.
Those old things were as big as a JVC VHS camcorder
@@mikesmith-po8nd Tuning forks are for QC (verifying calibration) not calibration itself. A fork is designed to represent x MPH. When struck and put in front of the unit, it should display the correct speed so they know the unit is working properly.

Arizona needs to do a campaign on teaching people where to park when they get pulled over. Left lane on the highway 😂
