I daisy-chain jungle clips on my mags so I can keep all nine attached to the rifle at once. The extra weight really stabilizes the muzzle and it frees up room on the plate carrier for my vapes and fidget spinners.
HSGI tacos work great for HALO/HAHO/static line jumps, fastroping, running, crawling, and riding an atv down a bumpy road. They are versatile in the sense that they can hold not only other types of mags like the Ak, but can hold anything shaped like one. GPS, water bottle, smoke grenade, walkie talkie, camera phone whatever. They are also super fast to replace mags one handed without looking and quickly. Like during during a tac reload. Some others out there aren't quite as rigid and it's a struggle to put a mag back in. Tacos are the best out there in my opinion. Super innovative. The only downsides are your mags are exposed to the elements and the bungee may eventually dry rot and not have the same elasticity after years of use.
Eric Hood dude I just shot all that hot knowledge he dumped down the back of my throat right out of my nose when I read your comment I guess I have to watch the video again
If you're really worried about retention with Esstacs, I've found that simply putting one on either end of your magazine then attaching them both to your PC (making sure they're both super tight on the mag) really keeps it secure. An alternative method is to fill it with epoxy before inserting.
Don't even bother trying to get cool outfit skins, you unlock those by rank and it'll take you decades to work up the brass. Rumor is that you can get the "Commander Elite Pack" by joining the new private military contract DLC, then preordering for your next deployment in a future global conflict.

I run the softshell scorpion mag pouches and have been a big fan. One of my favorite things is that you can pull out and up at the same time when drawing your mag, meaning they're easier to draw from if you have extra gear above your belt that could block a straight up pull.

@GarandThumb Definitely need a big 2023 update. Lots of new product options, innovations, and just some upgraded of the already listed product. I do like the g-code myself but would love to see your take on the Agilite Pincer pouch
@@ligaar0849 I grabbed a single pouch a few months ago. Been trying it out on my battle belt. So far no issues. I like it. I have been a g-code scorpion fan myself for years. And honestly when mag retention is key the Pincer is really nice to index… that being said as a LEO now and not army my agency practice is drop the mag and continue to advance. So that mind set of retaining mags is less an issue for duty gear. My personal set of gear though. I might switch to a full placard. Especially seeing their new pistol pouch line coming out.
Just an FYI for anyone looking at the G-Code Scorpion: the square looking parts on the front actually allow you to mount a pistol mag Scorpion through them using G-Code's MOLLE attachments. It's not overly slim, but it is a cool option nonetheless.
A point to note with the HSGI tacos that the other pouches don't offer is the ability to fit magazines from different calibers by adjusting the tension. I can use the same rig for a .308 as with .223 without having to switch out all my pouches. Others may adjust to a certain extent to accommodate different mags but generally stay within the same caliber. I work around the low retention issue by adding the bungee strap to the top of the taco
The kywis are amazing. I run a triple mid length on my placard and 2+2 side by side on the belt. I've never lost a mag yet I can pull them very easily and due to the insert they don't move about like a normal mag pouch does when using molle. I've tried all the others other than the polymer fast mags and the kywis are definetley best.
The Scorpion mag pouch is king in my eyes if you have AK or .308 mags - being able to have a system that runs AR 556-308, and Any AK mag without needing adjusted is innovative and practical.
Always preferred pouches with hook and loop covers myself. They hold the magazines securely for air operations, CQB, running, etc. They also keep foriegn debris out of your magazines. As for quiet...well, if you are having to reload an assault rifle then quiet is already out the window.
Same I have a quick draw pouch on the belt which is homemade PVC with bungie cord, but I keep going back to the flap pouches for the front because they work and are cheap. The only things they suck at is holding SMG magazines. When you lean forward or drop prone quickly, they have a tendency to slip out the corners
My biggest complaint with the HSGI taco is that the pouch collapses down on itself once the mag is removed. My biggest complaint about the FastMag is that you cannot fully seat a Gen 3 PMAG in it due to the over travel stop that's built into the mag. My favorite so far is the esstac kywi. Good video.
I've used the KYWI's and the Tacos...I used the Tacos until I lost a magazine come out while fighting somebody. I now use the KYWIs and couldn't be happier.
I've used Tacos and the Kywi. Both worked well for me when I sweep and clear in mom's basement. I like the Kywi a bit better because they're a little lower profile.
I like that you know your way IS "THE BEST" of course it is. All of us keyboard commandos know it too. But you let us all know that there are other ways/systems depending on situations/mission/gaming it! and nice dry humor too. just learned how to read.
My personal go-to front pouches are Condor flap top M4 triple pouches. My sides have the semi-built-in cummerbund pouches with the velcro insert and elastic retainers. They work with AR-15 mags, AR-10 mags, G3, FAL and M14 mags. Even AK 47 mags (I prefer a slick plate carrier and chest rig on my AK loadout). The idea is to keep my front mags protected from the elements while prone but also allows me to do a silent mag change from the 3 pouches on my sides if necessary. But I also carry a couple canteen pouches of mags (4 or 5 fit in each canteen/General Purpose pouch) in the event a resupply is unlikely or delayed. Edit: And just got to the part where you said you're talking belt mounted mag pouches. Kind of a curveball given this channel's history. Everything on my belt is a resupply pouch.
Ordered the Esstac KYWI triple 7.62 using Scar 17 20rd mags. Got the Daeodon for my Veritas plate carrier which mainly uses velcro loops to attach to the soft side velcro on the bottom front of my plate carrier. It has an additional male clasps that go into female clasps you weave through the molle. The KYWI is more streamlined no bungies to snag on branches or foliage you may be going through. Aesthetically they look the best. The triple gap pistol pouches are great for CZ double stack mags to give room for the extended lips of the base plates which also aids in ease of hand purchase between mags but are mainly for belts because of the gap they don’t line up with the molle.
Tighten the bungee for more retention And I get it, high points for noise means it’s loud. But low points would make more sense since the other ones are rated with high points for a better score as well
Funny I just came across this video because I just bought a bunch of mag pouches to do my own testing for speed reload. I ended up purchasing a BFG 10 speed, first spear speed reload, Esstac short and tall, and finally the ITW fastmag. One will be replacing my tacos which I'm keeping for a range belt. Thanks just subscribed.
@@jamesdecimuslll9747 the only time I've been hanging upside down in a lava pit was because I was captured by pygmies, and they took all my gear away from me before the strung me up.
If you're hanging upside down with an upside down pouch, wouldn't that technically make it right side up? Therefore if it's already right side up, then you become upside down, it would then be upside down and gravity still would not be in your favor
For my 782 gear setup I use (3) double pouches with flaps. For my plate carrier I use a triple open top pouch. For my battle belt I use Safariland's single kydex mag holder.
Fantastic review man, glad I found this channel! I definitely enjoy these smaller reviews on pouches, holsters, etc. Seeing you actually run the gear your gear fairly hard, its always helpful to listen to what others have to say about gear. Thanks for the review!
I've got some G-code mag pouches and you can make them so tight that I actually run them upside down on my battle belt. I can sprint, jump, trip (several times) and they will not fall out. I run it that way so I dont have to contort my arms in a wierd way to grab a spare mag. It works for me and its nice and pulling down vs pulling up is easy even with retention near max.
I don’t like the way High Speed gear took my money 6 weeks ago and still haven’t sent my purchase. There was no indication on their web site that it would take this long when I was placing my order. They gave me no indication or notice that any of the items I ordered were on back order. I’m still waiting for my purchase to show up.
So far, i have used the HSGI and the ATW. My thoughts is I REALLY like the HSGI more than the ATW because of material and retention. You have your own marks on the HSGI, but because i have an adjustable elastic cord on the back of the pouch, I can tighten or loosen the retention accordingly and I've been able to use my Baofeng radio in a single m4 magazine pouch WITH a ptt connecter. I will probably find myself buying more HSGI because I feel like the opening is big enough to slide in and the plastic molds make it easy to guide the magazine into the pouch, not to mention keep the magazine in snug. The ATW, meh, not my thing. I got 6 of them from someone, and i feel like it takes up too much space and it's not very low profile. However, I haven't considered using it on a belt, so I have a little bit more discovering to do.
great video. Loved the sublimal message as teh last sentence. I actually rolled the video back to make sure i heard you correctly. Thats the kinds of humor that wins you fans.
I ran the fast mags on my belt my last deployment. Something I have to add is the flimsy rubber webbing will come lose and break. Get it caught on a seatbelt a few times and it’s already tearing. I went through 4 during a 14 month deployment. Get something with rigid and durable webbing.
I like to stand under hot shower until my giblets are hanging nice and low a la old dudes in the gym, then I don my silkies and do pelvic thrusts while my fiancée watches Grey's Anatomy and rues the day she met me.
I use tacos, and i have found a little rtv silicone on the interior gives a boost to retention without any negative effects. I run them on my vest all day at work.
IMO! If those hsgi pouches had a front to back plastic insert (exactly like the esstac's) helping to keep them open, they would Reign supreme. Same with g-code pouches.
I would go Scorpion or ITW Fastmag. I like the way they draw. What i would always stay away from are those pouches that have some bungie cords over them, suually with a bit of a corcura tag or whatever to grab and put them aside, but it just sucks. Those pouches don't clamp on the mags, are usually made of very flexible fabric, which even makes it more annoying to put mags back in as well, and even more with the bungies getting in the way again.
You've doubled in subscribers since I joined! Glad I could contribute with my likes and comments. I always tell my tacticool friends to like your channel and we are never disappointed with the content! This. This is a good video for me as I am setting up a war belt and couldn't decide on mag pouches. I seem to favor the soft tacos the most as of now.
I actually preferred the old school ones we were issued before Iraq in 04. They had the closed top and kept me from loosing the damn things. I ended up with one quick grab one, then the rest of my mags were in old style pouch.
A few years old but if you pull up and out slightly on the Itw fastmag they will pull out alot easier. It doesnt have that tension all thru the draw because your pulling the magazine away from that rubber strip inside. At least on the gen4 anyway
also with the gcode scorpions you can draw the mag out and away at a 45deg from your body instead of verticle to clear plate carrier due to the bungees and design...this is the first time you didnt crack any jokes...great channel oops i meant flannel
Your noise reduction rating is backwards from the other rating criteria. Bad (too noisy) should be 1, and best (silent) should be 3. But otherwise good video. Thanks for posting.
"Not great" retention = 1. "Great" noise reduction = 1...!!!How are you scoring these my dude? You're like the UFC judges. Or maybe I got it wrong great and not great are the same thing this is regarding the hs tacos 🌮
Another great video. One point that would have been worth mentioning is that the G Code and Tacos can run all sorts of different mags, not just AR mags. Otherwise not bad for an Air Force dude.
I wonder what the general consensus is on close top mag pouches, just because that's what I run. Back story is that I run a universal setup, so I need a pouch that can fit ak, ar, and fal magazines. The only way I know to do it is the use prc-126 radio pockets. They keep the mags completely closed and protected. Only issue is the buckle needs to be disconnected the access the mags.
Gcode scorpion is definetly the best for the plate carrier/chest rig because you aren't limited to pulling up, you can also pull forward/away from your body which allows for faster, shorter and more comfortable movement. On the belt i would take a kiwy if i'm always runnung the same ar and either a scorpion or a taco if i also want to use my ak or any other rifle with different sized magazines. If you don't need the modularity there is no reason to get anything more complicated or bigger than a kywi.
I always watch every one of your videos not always for the content, but to see what you say at the first little bit to get people to subscribe, like and comment. I always find what you say comical.
I've been using direct action mag pouches. they have incorporated all of the benefits from the top manufacturers into there products and price is right as welll. You should check out there gear , top quality !!
I the having mags upside down actually make it easier and the ITW allows you to do that. Using gravity and the natural motion of pulling down makes it more efficient. Does it look weird?...yeah...but reloading in the prone position is waaay easier!
There is an important difference between the rifle mag kiwi and the hgsi/gcode. It is flexibility. The kiwi you either get a 5.56 or a 7.65. You can’t use different mags. But on the gcode/hgsi one mag pouch will take either one. No need to change! I use the scorpions. The same model will hold an hk 91 mag and an ar 5.56 mag.
A recommendation: look up the speed reload series of pouches from Direct Action Gear. It's like a deeper taco that is soft, lighter and collapses flat, and will fit anything from ARs to AKs to SRs, single OR double stack.

The hard cut after the whispered "I love "you" made me actually laugh audibly
I ran the fast mags on my belt my last deployment. Something I have to add is the flimsy rubber webbing will come lose and break. Get it caught on a seatbelt a few times and it’s already tearing. I went through 4 during a 14 month deployment. Get something with rigid and durable webbing.
I like to stand under hot shower until my giblets are hanging nice and low a la old dudes in the gym, then I don my silkies and do pelvic thrusts while my fiancée watches Grey's Anatomy and rues the day she met me.
Lance T. Seriously, youtube calls. Get your fifteen minutes of fame.
Bruuuuuuh 🤣
YOU ARE A KING!!
i see you are a man of culture as well

I use tacos, and i have found a little rtv silicone on the interior gives a boost to retention without any negative effects. I run them on my vest all day at work.
IMO! If those hsgi pouches had a front to back plastic insert (exactly like the esstac's) helping to keep them open, they would Reign supreme. Same with g-code pouches.
I could listen to GarandThumb talk about his _fitment_ all day...
Garand Thumb You should totally do a video on a Modern-day Minuteman Loadout/setup an concepts!!! 3%
Love that whispered "I love you" at the end. 🤣
From now on, I'm only wearing silkies while watching...... Always....
Front SightFocus pics or it didnt happen
Garand Thumb it's good to see you still act like a /ourguy/ off of /k/
I'm watching in ranger panties right now... so I hit subscribe...
Outstanding !
Remember ladies: Gravity Always Wins
One of the best things one can do is give some good advice . Thank you for the honesty!👍✌
"Gravity always wins." Truer words were never spoken.
I actually preferred the old school ones we were issued before Iraq in 04. They had the closed top and kept me from loosing the damn things. I ended up with one quick grab one, then the rest of my mags were in old style pouch.
The coment section in this channel is one of a kind.
A few years old but if you pull up and out slightly on the Itw fastmag they will pull out alot easier. It doesnt have that tension all thru the draw because your pulling the magazine away from that rubber strip inside. At least on the gen4 anyway
Right, but when are you doing Japanese love pillow recommendations? I need to know about stain resistances.
also with the gcode scorpions you can draw the mag out and away at a 45deg from your body instead of verticle to clear plate carrier due to the bungees and design...this is the first time you didnt crack any jokes...great channel oops i meant flannel
Flannel Daddy, please bless us with a review of the KKM Match Barrel and Compensator!
catmambell very very sooooooon
Your noise reduction rating is backwards from the other rating criteria. Bad (too noisy) should be 1, and best (silent) should be 3. But otherwise good video. Thanks for posting.
"Not great" retention = 1. "Great" noise reduction = 1...!!!How are you scoring these my dude? You're like the UFC judges. Or maybe I got it wrong great and not great are the same thing this is regarding the hs tacos 🌮
I run a lotta G Code gear (belt mags, holsters), have also run them down range in combat, highly, highly recommend.
I just like listening to you say "taco"
Another great video. One point that would have been worth mentioning is that the G Code and Tacos can run all sorts of different mags, not just AR mags. Otherwise not bad for an Air Force dude.
I wonder what the general consensus is on close top mag pouches, just because that's what I run. Back story is that I run a universal setup, so I need a pouch that can fit ak, ar, and fal magazines. The only way I know to do it is the use prc-126 radio pockets. They keep the mags completely closed and protected. Only issue is the buckle needs to be disconnected the access the mags.
agbond003 I concur!! My rig is a universal set up as well. I use Kangaroo pouches that hold Ak/Ar15/Ar10 mags.
Thumbs up for the positive reaffirmation at the end...
I use the HSGI since it fit all mags, M4, M14, AK no prob.
