I have one too. Loved it. I bought it in 2003. Mine is still in mint condition too since I always kept it in its box. Too bad I can't join pictures here, I would have shown you its box. I still have it.
I use to buy only Yamaha keyboards from 1995 to 2002 and I wanted to see how the Casio sounds were to compare them with the sounds of my previous Yamaha synths PSS/PSRs. I often prefered the sounds on my Yamahas but this one has a few sounds that still blew me away I must admit (like its synth voice sound n° 54 and its orchestra hit sound n° 55).
But what Casio did much better than Yamaha according to me was the drums. They were incredibly dynamic on this one. Like you had a real drummer on your hands. And I particularely loved the integred floppy disk, this was a revolution back then. I keep all my songs recorded on floppy disks in 2003/2004 and I can still replay them back today in 2020. This WK-1800 was and still is magical. :)

My sister bought one in the 90s, I played with it through my childhood, and I still play it. Still in mint condition. Never read the manual or studied how to use it, just have been playing with it for a decade. I don’t even remember how to make a song though 😂 I wish it was simpler

I got myself a WK1600 recently. Found this rare keyboard. God's grace! I am going to use it as a midi controller.

I have the radio shack version. Many years later it has one Dead key and a loose power jack port and I still play it. (I tried to fix the Dead key myself with no luck) second demo song is a banger..lol

I used to have the Radio Shack version too. MD-1800. They must have made a deal with Casio and slapped on their brand name?

I could never get used to the look of those silver keyboards and color LCD's. Nonetheless, I am awaiting a Technics KN6500 as my desensitization therapy to both phenomena. Will see how it goes.

    Hi Kris,
Can I check if any of your WK1800 has this problem of certain notes seems stucked and continued ringing even after the keys are released? It is definately not a case of sticky or stuck keys.
It seems like a few WK1800 owners encountered this problem... Any remedy to this?
    Regards,
    Keith

Hi there, this is a pretty amazing keyboard. I used to play on the WK-1630 which is a variant of it back in high school keyboard class and had great fun with it. I don't know if you still have it but if you do, could you please make a direct feed recording of the demo songs using audacity or something? I would really like to hear these demos again in high quality but I can't find them like that anywhere. Would greatly appreciate it! :)

    • @dkj4183
      @dkj4183 5 років тому

I recently bought my WK-1800 from an elderly lady and she only used it for the various piano sounds it produces. Regarding weighted keys like an acoustic piano you ask? Honestly, to me there is no weighted key action on the WK-1800 and that is taking some getting used to. I'm used to an acoustic piano. Will someone out there correct me if I'm wrong on the weightless keys of the WK-1800? I'm very new at this WK-1800.

Weighted keys don't matter, any musician worth their salt can play just as flawlessly on an unweighted keyboard as they can on a weighted one, I know, I've been playing on both kinds of keyboards for 30 years

Used to own one. Great retro sounds but not really liked the rhythms, due to the crash cymbal in every 2 or 4 bar in the main variations

I had the RadioShack version of this keyboard and the speakers were amazing!Since I had went towards professional grade keyboards,I had sold it & I deeply regret doing so...as the speakers they make nowadays are garbage.
Casio finally included pro-grade workstation features, but skimped on the speaker quality.I am so tired of companies trying to make an all-in-one recording solution, while they are ruthlessly cutting corners to undercut the competition and thereby creating keyboards with fatal flaws in them.
This is probably the result of far too many cheap-skates that whine like a bitch about pricing and how they want everything for nothing.
If there were more people like me who are willing to pay a bit more,to avoid compromises in quality, then Casio who never disappoint in their feature sets.
Seriously...if Casio had put forth a bit more in their production budget and made speakers they way they used to and made a slightly larger and higher resolution screen(& charged say,a $100 more for the WK-7600)...then they would still remain in the consumer price point range and make EVERYONE happy.
Yeah...some people would cry about the higher price...but ultimately,Casio could offer a substantial alternative to companies like Roland & Korg...which can only benefit Casio in the long run.
When Casio created the XW-P1 synth...they seemed to be setting their sights on competing with the semi-pro market(which was amazing)...but that all started and ended with the XW-P1 and this is the reason why I can't bring myself to consider Casio again.
It's always 1 step forward, two steps back with Casio & I am tired of it.I REALLY wanted to love the WK-7600...but my long experience tells me that I would end up growing tired of it very quickly(especially since Casio's computer integration is still very limited).
Roland has finally made the perfect compromise between quality and budget pricing, with their new FA-series workstations and yes,the price range is at least double that of Casio's pricing...but they offer SO MUCH MORE...such as thousands of stunning sounds,5 inch full color LCD screen, stereo WAV AND individual audio track exports, true piano style weighted keys on the FA-08 model, sampling, drum pads,a resonance tone control, internal flash memory and USB support, many more effect types and routing flexibility and best of all,it's just as easy to use and has a faster workflow then the WK-7600.
All that being said,I would much rather save my money for the Roland and I would suggest to anyone that wants a serious workstation,to consider the FA-series,because this is the most inexpensive & exciting workstation keyboard Roland has ever made.
