  • This Hong Kong-style barbecue is one of Downtown LA’s favorite lunch spots, thanks to RiceBox owners Lydia and Leo Lee. They make char siu pork, porchetta, and crispy duck with high-quality ingredients in customizable bowls and boxes. The couple learned to cook from their respective families, who also owned restaurants. They have taken classic family recipes and updated them, but still remain true to familiar Cantonese BBQ flavors and textures. RiceBox is located in the Spring Arcade Building at 541 South Spring Street.

What he meant to say was *I've eaten it before...at a fraction of the price. This is comfort food, aka some of the cheapest eats you'll find in any chinatown. Just looks for roast pork and ducks hung on hooks in the windows. When you make food for hipsters...you charge hipster prices and they'll thank you for giving them "higher quality". Just a facade.

We have this everywhere in LA, it's called the San Gabriel Valley literally on every streetcorner, but if you're not Chinese you may not know that, hence this video.

Magnanimous I totally support each of our opinions, but I’m stating that the literal Chinese food in Chinatown San Francisco (which isn’t including the Bay Area consisting of surrounding cities) is very authentic and unique and has its own blend of tastes and flavors, and I do very much agree to your statement of not having many good boba places in the San Francisco Bay Area because most places use syrups and added flavorings and that the boba and culture in LA is much better, but I think you can find your fair share of good restaurants and boba shops here and there in San Francisco!

@King Delevingne true, can't be mad at the restaurant. But sometimes people want to try something new but get charged up the ass for something crappy and not even know it because they never been there.

I don't think "new" or "fusion" was used in the video. All the testimonials were from Chinese diners who vouched for the food's authenticity. I've had a lot of "traditional" Cantonese food that's been a few bucks cheaper but crappy. Maybe quality comes at a price.

Well, being a lover of Cantonese cuisine, I have to say that this is not the traditional way Char Shu is prepared and yet they have the traditional BBQ Box found in 99% of the Chinese restaurant kitchens? I know because I use to design them. Normally it is a slow process at 350 in a BBQ Box that holds the pork on rods over a gas fired ring burner at the bottom of the box. The duck preparation is close enough to perfect albeit they are not separating the skin from the flesh with the use of pumped in air. They are using pork butt for the Char Shu and that's the best combination of flesh to fat. Why the Chimichura type topping? Porkchetta? In traditional Hong Kong BBQ places it is done differently.
