I 100% enjoyed this video. Your use of organic materials is very pleasing. Your right to the heart of the project was refreshing too. I have to go through way too many videos until I find one helpful & enjoyable. Thank you so much!

Hi Terry, could this be done with Moth Orchids as well? Or isn't it recommended

mmmm good question. Any epiphytic orchid can be mounted in theory. So will depend on the micro climate you can create for the orchid and what daily requirements you can commit to. Mounted orchids need more frequent attention for watering etc, than a potted orchid. However I find mounted orchids are far less prone to root rot so if this is a problem for you, mounting is definitely the way to go.

@@TerryErasmusbonsai they doing very well in pots. Sadly they haven't flowered in a while but I think it was due to the environment they were in (very cold apartmemt). I have 1 Tolumnia I bought from you a while back and found a suitable sized self watering pot. Would this be sufficient? I'm so scared I end up over watering or under water

Landi, Tolumnia or any orchid for that matter will not flower unless given enough light. I suspect why yours have not flowered is that you need to give me sunlight. I’ve never used self watering containers so I cannot comment. The way an orchid is planted (the media you choose, whether in a container or not, material of the container etc) all play a role in frequency of watering. I cannot unfortunately tell you how often to water, it’s something you need to figure out over time. In my opinion it’s better to mount these epiphytic orchids if you are in fear of overwatering.

@@TerryErasmusbonsai we lived in a dark and cold apartment previously but have since moved to a bright sunny spot. I think they will do a lot better now once repotted. Thanks so much for your advice! Hopefully I can add another Tolumnia to my little growing collection soon

Could any type of moss work?

I am sorry Bernice I am not sure. "Any" is very vague. I just know that sphagnum moss is very water retentive and absorbs water quickly even from completely dry. A lot of other mosses do not have this characteristic.
