Great seeing this Elm again, can't believe it's been two years already! Nice tip on using the sieve to grate the moss will definitely use that one. Would love to see a few of the other techniques to tying trees down, especially some of the younger pre bonsai that don't have as solid a root base and the round pots that have 3 holes (although I have the feeling you may have done that before :) brilliant video as always.
Thanks Wesley! I may have done such a video before, cannot recall, but thanks for the suggestion. I always welcome viewers to tell me what they would like to see. It helps me a lot too.
Thank you for this wonderful repotting vid Terry. Love your method for securing the tree using chop stick pegs into the rootball - will have to remember this tip. The tree and pot comb fit together just beautifully - like they were made for each other!
Thank you Sue. Most kind of you. I certainly cannot claim that the chopstick idea is mine, as with most of my knowledge it is acquired from true Japanese masters.
I liked the use of chop sticks to secure the tree in the pot. I will start using this technique. I too reduce the root ball when I am repotting on a hot day.. over all a very good video.
I was sure I answered you John but the comment does not display. If I wanted to entirely change the media or if something catastrophic had happened with the media I had used then I would use Boons 50/50 method of bare rooting the front and leaving the back. I would not use a washer. With Akadama, lava and pumice one doesn’t really need to go into the core of the root ball much other than perhaps piercing it with a root pick every so many years. I know about the washer technique and do use it. However only on young trees which don’t have much ramification to speak of and generally trees which have not developed a proper root ball yet.
Great video as alwats Terry, and such a beautiful specimen. I noticed you didn't work the old media out of the rootball as you normally do, almost like a 'slip potting'. What was the reason for that? I presume the old media was not very compacted?
Thanks Duane. Great observation. No I did not. Your assumption is correct. The media in the core did not require any work. The roots were in great condition.
Hey Terry, would you recommend any other bonsai soil mixes? I went to stone lantern nursery and they use a crushed leca based soil mix for some of their trees. Is this a good alternative to The APL mix?
Hi could you please add the option to see auto-translated Hungarian subtitles on your videos? Love your content but sadly my english isn’t the best so it would help a lot. Thanks for your effort, Krisz.
Thank you so much for commenting and of course for watching. To be honest, I don’t know how to do that as the subtitles should be automatically generated by UA-cam and should be a setting on your device. Is it not?
@@TerryErasmusbonsai Thanks for your reply! On desktop the auto traslation works but in the mobile app for some reason not all languages are avalaible. I like like your videos, they are really informative, thanks for your work!
@Krisz-nm1zv I truly appreciate it. Thank you so much. Unfortunately I am not sure how I can make subtitles available for the full length videos then on all devices. I am very sorry.
Such a professional. To be admired. Thanks Terry it’s a pleasure to witness.
Wow, thank you John. Much appreciated Sir.
what a lovely tree this is...and such a healthy root bowl....m left in so much AWE!!
Wow, thank you for your kindness.
Thanks Terry. Looking forward to a few updates on your pine trees over the coming months! 🤞
Take care. D.
Thanks! Sure, will start repotting those next month I guess - depends on the weather.
The best bonsai man in SA🇿🇦
That’s a very generous compliment Dean. I am sure I do not deserve it, but I’m always doing my best. Thank you for your vote of confidence.
Love the commentary on this one Terry, another great video. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Mike! Thanks so much.

Please do a video on pot selection & their history....
Thanks for the suggestion Keith! That will be a really great video to make. Very challenging in fact. 😳

Would you get the pressure washer out Terry if the original media wasn’t ideal?

Sure. For developing trees this is what I use and sell: www.bonsaitree.co.za/products/professional-growing-medium
@TerryErasmusbonsai Thank you! It's quite cheap for 20L! You just got a new customer
Thanks!

Szia!
Megtennéd, hogy az automata fordításba, a feliratozásnál, a magyar nyelvet is beleveszed?
Köszönöm
Kris:)
I’m sorry. I do not know how to do that. It should give all languages as an option. I don’t know why Hungarian is not one of them. I am very sorry.
