My mother told me, she met Andre. She was a diabetic and had a reaction to a low blood sugar. Because of this, she had to go the hospital. Andre was there doing charity work for Make a wish. He went from room to room meeting all the children until he got to my mother's room. She told him about her condition. She said that Andre weeped for her and said, "No little girl should have to go through that." If I was a wrestler in the 80s-90s, I would've wept at his funeral. Andre was truly a gentle giant, and a saint.

He never had a funeral, he just wanted his ashes spread over his farm. People were dicks to him so he told his friend verbatim “when I die just spread me here. I don’t want people to see me dead, if they want to see me they can see me now”. But nonetheless I’d be weeping with you bro lol.

We had climbed up on the fence to see over the heads of the crowd and were waving madly. Andre stopped, looked around, saw us kids on the fence and smiled and waved. I was sooo happy he said that. During the 3 times I met him, we talked a total of maybe 2 minutes. On his 3rd visit, I had problems with some college football players. I was trying to get them to leave, but they wanted to fight. 5 of them and 1 of me. They got up and knocked over their chairs... then Andre said from behind me... you mess with him and you mess with me... they turned and left. Andre smiled, finished his beer and I never saw him again.

For me it shows what as great man Andre really was. 30 years after his death, he is still being talked about. And as the comments here show, he is remembered with love and respect. If we didn't have footage of him no one, I mean no one would belive he was possible. Gives me faith in human kind and how the odd one out can become a true legendary great man. Just had to say something after watching this.

I seen Andre at an airport one time waiting for his flight. He couldn't sit anywhere because all the chairs had those arm rests separating them, Someone managed to remove one so he could sit, and he still had trouble squeezing into two chairs. I just remember his feet coming half up the back of the seats in front of him, and the size of his hands. You could tell he was embarrassed, he some old guy with him almost shielding Andre from people. Although he did let some of us kids get his autograph and was very nice to us. Despite seeing how uncomfortable he was. Kind sad, but as a kid you never pay attention to that kind of stuff.

Jake seems like a beloved maternal uncle of mine who sadly passed away 18-20 years ago, shortly after my maternal grandparents. Mike was AMAZING and had so many great and colorful stories to tell like Jake. I had the privilege to meet Jake several years ago at a local convention...
His recovery and his personality and his incredible way about him make him one of my favorite people of all time, not just wrestler. You cannot say a bad thing about him, now. He had demons, and he had trouble conquering them and he was in a spiral of toxic behavior, as chronicled in Beyond the Mat (showed him at something akin to rock bottom, and he is not proud at all of how he was shown here) and Resurrection (SO inspiring how it turns out), but he rose above it and has become one of the most inspiring figures in wrestling and in LIFE.
Thanks for posting this, and the other clips from his time on JRE. I love them.

This was fucking hilarious. I loved Jake the snake as a kid. Jake the snake and Rick rude. Wrestling used to be so good. Back when these guys wrestled, and I would also say it was pretty great when the undertaker would get disqualified every match for tombstoning his opponent on to a steel chair, when we had psycho Sid, Brett the Hitman heart, kane with the mask, mankind getting thrown through anything and everything, the Hardy boys with Lita, the rock, stone cold Steve Austin always beefing with the rock and Vince McMahon and when stone cold drove the beer truck down to the ring. All that shit was great. Once stone cold and the rock were out, and WWF turned into WWE it was all downhill (imo) and I fell out of it.
