Like cars that go 50,000 miles or 500,000 miles, maintenance can/does make all the difference. My current wood framed home is 20 years old and is as good as the day I built it. On the other hand I see homes only a few years old that are in need of restoration work because of poor drainage, sloppy construction, poor maintenance, etc.. Every construction method has its ups and downs. I'm currently working on building designs meant to endure for easily 100 yrs+... Dave
The home was engineered for seismic category D construction- severe and destructive ground shaking (earthquake). Also, per class II construction and per engineering- 140 MPH (225 KPH) winds. Tornados of any significance in California coastal areas are exceedingly rare.... You probably don't want to be in or near any masonry (stone and concrete) structures in a 8.0 earthquake....
In regards to home construction (technology/materials) USA is THIRD World country; there are places on Earth that have long lasting, much safer construction, and healthier homes for price 20 times cheaper than poor "stick, paper, and gypsum" homes in USA;
Is that why most towns in the US have houses left over from the 1800s and why my whole street is made of wood houses built in the 1970s. Also why does it need a gate?
Hi Uzair! Good question! 1) Wood is plentiful here. 2) Wood built homes are extremely earthquake resistant. what is the total cost like this house
A general rule to have a home built similar to this in central Calif. is around $250/sq. ft.
This can vary depending on required engineering, permits, etc..
Dave
Don't listen to Dave. He doesn't know what he's talking about.
The total cost of the house is probably around 800,000 dollars.

Why wooden house? Build with bricks and cement
Dave, you have Facebook?
no....
this is why in wind weather usa houses fly and breaks
You're mistaking houses built like these (very strong), with mobile homes in Oklahoma.
@@daveosland3199 how is houses like this in Texas?

Oh my, how lucky people are to be able to make foundation only 0.5 meters deep. In areas where I live, soil freezes 2m deep, so foundation must be placed deeper than 2m...
Yea, Californians whine when we get frost....
But then, I've had to drill 28' deep piers in some sketchy locations to get a foundation in!
Wouldn’t insects eat all that wood?
Termites are the concern with wood. Periodic maintenace minimizes the damage they can cause.
This house would not last 200 - 300 years as they do in the UK. Where is the bricks
Most of the brick homes in the UK would collapse in the earthquakes these homes are built and designed to ride out....
I hate wood homes in like 40 years all that wood is going to be full of termites roaches and all of the above i’m gonna make sure I make my house in concrete here in philly

I did it myself. I used Woodprix woodworking plans for this.
A tornado wil blow this in the air in to seconds. It looks nice nut very thin walls..Timber isn't lasting long. Stone is stronger
In regards to home construction (technology/materials) USA is THIRD World country; there are places on Earth that have long lasting, much safer construction, and healthier homes for price 20 times cheaper than poor "stick, paper, and gypsum" homes in USA;
Try the best carpenters and woodworkers plans. Stodoys.

Wood house no quality and expensive why wested so much money just build wood house and the has no gate too.
Is that why most towns in the US have houses left over from the 1800s and why my whole street is made of wood houses built in the 1970s. Also why does it need a gate?
Why you don't use bricks,,??
Pakistani homes are totally made of bricks,,,,
Hi Uzair!
Good question!
1) Wood is plentiful here.
2) Wood built homes are extremely earthquake resistant. We are in an earthquake prone area!
3) Wood frame homes require less labor to build than brick or masonry.
4) Wood frame homes are easier to heat (warmer) and easier to remodel/alter if you desire.
There are negative sides to wood also-
Termites and fire concerns need to be addressed.
Dave
@@daveosland3199 nice,,,bro,,its interesting for me ,,,as a Pakistani,,,because we use wood just for doors,,(too expensive)
@@uzairkhan6131 And you make beautiful metal work that I admire!
Rubbish not strong it's only wood .it's danger in case get fire then .very funny wasted of money. ..from UK .
In the 89' earthquake in California, the 63 people that died were from falling concrete/masonry structures-
A single 2x4" x 8 foot stud (douglas fir board) can support 7000 lbs (3200 kilos) vertically, can bend and snap back into place. Look at the tens of thousands that die in earthquakes because brick and concrete can't bend but collapse instead.
Deaths from fires are mostly from smoke inhalation from carpet, upholstery, etc..-Found in any type residence. The frame of modern built wood framed houses is usually the last thing to burn...
How often do you think houses catch on fire?
