    Did you know about this feature before watching? This feature has been massive for me. Check out another Sony feature: ua-cam.com/video/EVznu57U9Ns/v-deo.html

    CIZ gives the very useful flexibility of being able to zoom incrementally, and as you said can be engaged at any time
    What about image quality …
    If used at 1.5x, is its impact on IQ any different from using APS-C? I would think it’s the same
    I’m partly asking because (eg for wildlife) you might want to use both

    huh? What do you mean, that you lose resolution when using optical zoom?

    • @MarioSoMedia
      @MarioSoMedia  4 роки тому +1

      yes it seems that you lose a bit of resolution if you are using anything other than clear image zoom.

    • @MsIrrealis
      @MsIrrealis 4 роки тому +7

      @@MarioSoMedia optical zoom is literally using your lens to zoom in. if you have the 16-50 kit lens for example and zoom from 16mm to 50mm, you are using optical zoom. So you can´t possibly lose resolution

    • @MarioSoMedia
      @MarioSoMedia  4 роки тому +2

      Yes you're right! I probably didn't explain clearly. When you select optical zoom only, the camera doesn't engage any of its smart zoom features (zoom is just dependent on the zoom range of your lens) which doesn't make you lose resolution per say but it's important to note that dependent on the lens, different focal lengths might be softer around the edges or not as sharp. But honestly too minimal to notice unless you are pixel peeping on your editing station.

    Really good video explaining all the relevant aspects of Clear Image Zoom and APSC mode. The part about why RAW files knock out Clear Image Zoom was especially useful :)

    Thank you for your very helpful video 😊
    A couple of other options towards the same end -
    Sony states that Clear Image zoom results in no loss of quality. their very brief explanation just refers to an “algorithm” which I’d guess could only mean some sharpening to compensate …
    Have you ever tried or compared CIZ with the other option in your menu - Digital? For IQ (or ease of use)?

    I feel like that clear Image Zoom for still photo lose quality or am I wrong? Would be great for wildlife photos.

    • @MarioSoMedia
      @MarioSoMedia  Рік тому +1

      You're not wrong. This works for video since it's not using the entire sensor it crops in 4k or HD without losing quality. With photos you are already using the entire sensor so doesn't work like that.

    my gear for recording video : sony a9 + e 55-210mm, with clear image zoom I saved a lot of money buying a telephoto lens. I usually recording video for beautiful girl at apartment swimming pool and beach :)

    Heard that about clear image zoom is a bit clearer than crop in in photos tho~ (thoughts on this one !?

    • @MarioSoMedia
      @MarioSoMedia  2 роки тому +1

      So CIZ only works for video mode since when cropping the camera is using more of the sensor. In photo mode the camera is already using the entire sensor so Clear Image Zoom doesn't work. Hope this helps

      @huasheng9695 2 роки тому

      @@MarioSoMedia Hm... I knew it didn't work in RAW but works fine in jpegs
      So maybe I'm not asking it clear enough
      It's more like image quality of the two
      "crop in RAW/jpeg" vs "CIZ jpeg"~~~

    On my Sony a9 I can use Clear Image Zoom up to 2x in 4k24p. But with my a7iii I can only go up to 1.5x at the same framerate. Is this a setting issue or does the a9 just have a farther clear image zoom reach? Great vid btw!

    • @MarioSoMedia
      @MarioSoMedia  4 роки тому

      The a7iii can do 2x but only on 1080p. It's insane that the a9 can do that. Thanks for watching!

  • @gant911
    @gant911 2 роки тому +1

    Hi Mario. Thanks for explaining how to set up Clear Image Zoom. I setup my A7 iii the same way, using the Down Button to engage Clear Image Zoom, but I noticed that when using it, I go into the Fn settings, and the Focus Area and Metering Mode options are grayed out. Do you know why that is? Thanks

    • @MarioSoMedia
      @MarioSoMedia  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Gary! Thanks for watching! I get the same thing and my guess is that you need to set those settings before engaging Clear Image Zoom for some reason. Not sure why though unfortunately.

    Does it loose clarity while using clear image zoom in hd 60fps?

    • @MarioSoMedia
      @MarioSoMedia  2 роки тому +1

      Nope. Frame rate shouldn't be affected by clear image zoom. Rather it depends on the bit rate each frame rate option has in your camera.

    • @MarioSoMedia
      @MarioSoMedia  4 роки тому +1

      The lens shouldn't affect clarity unless you are talking about overall sharpness. It sounds to me that you may have a different issue. What do you mean by "not clear"? You can try cleaning the sensor and the lens front.

    • @MarioSoMedia

      Oh really? Try using a flat picture profile and stay away from Auto mode. I would suggest learning how to use full manual mode for video and learn about the exposure triangle. It will definitely help. The camera does lots of crazy things in auto mode 😅
