In memory of Arnie Bloom, who passed away in January. He was the star of many of my reviews and videos since the beginning of this channel, but more importantly, he was my beloved Dad. Totally agree and signed it, this should just be an optional upgrade. I am using a Kamerar CVF-1 now to bypass it a bit, but an actual EVF would be so much better still. Thanks Philip!

I'm so sorry for your loss Phillip. Following you over the years it is very clear how much you loved your father and how much he loved you. One of my favorite quotes from you is this: "My dad came home ever day miserable... hated his job, and it wasn't a horrible job he just didn't like it. That's the key thing you need to be in it for the right reasons." That impacted me completely and I related closely with that and I believe I always will. You may never know this Phillip, but you are truly one of my biggest inspirations in life. Just as I assume your father is to you. I imagine he's up there smoking a nice tall cigar, Cheers to that beautiful man now in the heavens. Rest in Peace, Arnie Bloom.

Sorry for loss Philip, he clearly did a great job as a Dad. Mine passed away a couple of years ago, I wrote this at the time, “My Dad’s love, a guiding star, so bright, illuminates my path, through day and night.” It helped come me come to terms and that star stills guides me and shines so bright.

I’ve been following you for over a decade and am very sorry for your loss. You still make my favorite camera reviews. I bought the ZV-E1 for family videos etc and it’s quickly become one of my workhorses for many other things. Beautiful image and such a small footprint. All the best

I'm driving out to the coast to get an oral history and a video tour of decades of photo albums from an aging uncle in a couple months.
He and my now deceased father had an incredible life as businesspeople and motorsports contenders and half a dozen other things. Just that single opening shot of your dad reminded me why I need to do it. Because once someone is gone so is access to their living memory. No more time for questions and explanations.
Absolutely. The interview with him it was 9 years ago and i was fortunate to have done it then. His mental ability went downhill after this and he gradually succumbed to his demons. 💔
The pain never goes away, but it does get easier with time. So sorry for your loss ❤

I actually shot some footage of my dad, with my at the time A-cam, the EVA-1. A camera I bought for a large part based on your recommendations. This is my 3rd year without my father, and the footage I shoot that day, while experimenting with V-LOG, is my most precious footage I posses after 11 years of being a videographer. Philip, as I sit here in BC, Canada, you produced two powerful emotions, the first is missing my father, the second is homesick for Richmond. I hope you are moving forward, all I can say is you don’t get over it, you simply learn to deal with it. On the camera front, Sony do not seem to understand that the FX’s without EVF are useless for wildlife and mildly active shooting. This is massive and is why you are justified in your wish for the EVF. Lastly, as for TOPAZ, I’m impressed with what you did with it.

So sorry for your loss Philip. I went through the same thing a couple of years ago. There are good days, there are bad days, but it does get easier with time and reflection.
SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.... I loved my father he was a constant supporter of my creative aspirations, and when loosing the stead constant dad, who supports its really hard Phillip... Hope your doing well , thanks for the years of loyalty to your followers.. you were there when I got my first Canon 5D Mark II // and now got Sony FX3 .. you were there for me .. hope us followers can be there for you a bit x cheers mate .. keep on doing your thing, we appreciate you and your dad !
It was sad to know the news at the time. It was then that I wanted to give you and your family a hug. Ever since my grandmother left me when I was in college, I've realised that we seem to be losing all the time. Growing up, losing my childhood, losing my former classmates, and for a long time I was in a state of grief. But I've since figured out that all those people and objects that seem lost are just there for us in a different way. I keep the dolls my grandmother gave me and will always remember the memories she and I made. Likewise, everything from the past I treasure in my heart. So, I'm sure your dad was just there for you in a different way too. I've always found documenting with a camera to be a wonderful memory. We can keep the sounds and smiles of the people we love and our memories forever. I hope everything will get better and your dad is really just there for you in a different way. Hugs again to you and your family.
Just couple hours ago I was looking at this camera at shop at Kingston. There was a Sony representative who told me mostly everything about this camera . I told him that I need to go home and do more research. I just came back home, opened the UA-cam and your video was the first one on my home page 😊. It’s because of you I learned the 5Dmk2. It’s because of you I preordered the a7s3, the best camera I ever owned and still use. I know it’s been a tough ride for you over the years but I appreciate you not giving up. Thank you for all your hard work. I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve lost my mum, my brother, my FIL and a close friend over the last 10-years and it takes time to heal. Take your time in this season, allow sorrow to work itself through you. I love your videos, your vision touches my heart. When I lost my parents I felt I had walked through an arch and came out into a different landscape, a new permanence. Mortality hit me like a brick. I lost my dad 17 years ago and still feel his presence. I just bought you PB gold filters. I am a fledgling videographer and at my age might not get much further, but I’m going back to the Mara and so want to capture the big cats with the gold diffusion. Sending you love.

Great video. Love my ZV-E1 and the Viltrox lens is a great combo. I do find the auto focus slightly more reliable than the FX3 and find myself reaching for the ZV-E1 more and more lately.
But then again, the Pocket 3 is superb. Love the footage. Those swans looked pretty chill

Sadly it’s too late for me to follow your advice: my mom’s still with us, but Alzheimer’s taken her mamory, and her persona to oblivion. Berating myself for not knowing better back when it wasn’t too late.

It's great that you make these reviews for cameras that have been out for a while because not everybody is buying them right after release and it's good to have a solid review after the hype :)
I have the baby brother of this camera (the ZV E10) and people I work with are always impressed with the footage I get when pairing this camera with a cheap 1.4 35mm SIGMA lens.

They are helping me bridge the gap between a pro photographer and moving into the world of video and films. A daunting step indeed. But YOUR work and support through your videos/courses has given me the confidence to GO for it!!. And I am now going to launch a video side of my business too. I have been waiting for your review of this camera before I push the BUY button. On paper it looks a serious bit of kit, which has been dismissed by many pro's as a toy/gimmick!!. As an A! owner I am so annoyed with Sony for leaving the flagship in the cold with regard to animal eye AF in video. Which as a dog photographer I need!!!,LOL. It is this reason I have been looking at the ZV-E1 and your review has now answered my questions and i will be buying it as a behind the scenes camera but also to make mini films for clients of their dogs. It has its failings but for the money its insane!! An FX3 for a third of the price!!plus better AF!!!

i don't usually write in here but you're one of the one with so much knowledge and great information for all of us. But sharing that short and moving seconds from your father just hit me now both my parents are gone. I just want to share a prashe that a day comes to me when i was just sat and feeling at my parents home. I slowly start to be aware that pain will fade away very slow day by day, but the memories i have from they will be part of me and is my most value gif. thank you for share it and i'm sorry for your lost. (please excuse me that my english is not enought good as i just want to share a short feeling with you).

Along with the EVF, I'd love for Sony to create a new audio handle for the FX3/FX30. It should be more sturdy so it can handle an attached 5" monitor, and have a smart-hotshoe passthrough to connect the EVF when the handle is attached.

Sorry for your loss. I always look forward to your videos. I think this was almost the perfect content creator camera. Where I live Summer time is too hot for it. That and it seems to overheat when streaming from what I’ve seen.
Thank you. Use a dummy battery to an external battery and the overheating pretty much goes away. You can stream in HD for hours even when it’s hot.

I bought this camera and tried it for 14 days and decided to return it. Took photos and videos indoors in a museum once and the footage and pictures had weird banding all over due to the lack of mechanical shutter. Even though I changed the settings and use variable shutter to compensate the issues were completely fixed. Has this happened to you often when you shoot indoors?
Thank you. For video, you can get it to auto-set the shutter to tune out the interference. You will get this with any Sony video camera. With stills, there's also a function to help you.

Thank you for the video. Now I feel better about choosing this camera. It’s my first Sony and has made me a Sony fan. I agree that it should have hot shoe compatible EVF (petition signed and shared!). I do wish it didn’t overheat so fast when using Bluetooth, or when using an external monitor, or sending the signal through the Raveneye while on a Ronin… I’m considering a Tilta external fan but then that’s just one more thing 😮💨…
Never apologize for being slow or 'late'. Putting aside your reasons (which are understandably sad and deeply personal), I appreciate the well thought out approach to each review. I gives me much more confidence in each purchase. So much so that there is a direct correlation between products you've reviewed that lead to me purchasing them and my long-term happiness with the product. I dearly wish there was more effort in every industry and sector to re-review products after they've been used for more than a week. Maybe 6months, at least? There should be a first impression and a commitment to return to it again. You really have to shake it out to know what's right and what's wrong. The rush to be the first to say Yea of Nay is is not helping. So you take all the time you need Philip. And...our condolences.

Great camera indeed. We have one of them . We ended up using it more than our A7S3 or Fx9 ... dynamic stabilisation for hands on mode is perfect!
