The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Thing I always find funny about the old days is just the amount (and quality) of sound some drummers could get out of just the most basic drum kits. Like if you watch Greg Errico from Sly & The Family Stone - - - half the time he's on a friggin' Sears Silvertone set!! But then after they've made it big, they'll upgrade to something choice like a Ludwig, or Gretsch kit and forever chase the sound they once had with the el cheapo kit.
      Life's funny like that, y'know?

Bill Danoff and Taffy Nifert of The Starland Vocal Band who had a Hit with their Song "Afternoon Delight" wrote it for Johnny Cash but when John Denver heard it, He wanted to record it and then he helped finish the song so, he only wrote part of it.

Another classic by this underrated band, and don't forget, it was NOT lip-synched but performed live.

Loved them from kiddo on up! If I’m ever having a bad day, this song is a great pick-me-up! Turtles and the Monkees should be in the R&R Hall of Fame. This performance was so smooth and engaging. The 60s hippies colors in the background are awesome too!

You've got a second vote in that nomination. Anyone who was young during that period,(1967), could not avoid the ubiquity of those two acts. The Monkees, The Turtles and yes, Paul Revere & The Raiders were all over the place that year, and what a good one it was.

My father was a collector for music-industry types. He was in conversations with execs, who said more than once, that despite great talent and songs, the reason they didn’t hit bigger with the pop-loving teen set, is that they didn’t have the looks. And that fucking sucks, but on the other hand, it’s also the animal deep within us.

So upbeat!! So... HAPPY TOGETHER!!! And the drum solos!! You could not help feeling good, singing along widd'um!!! '67 grad moved to little town in W-Pa, prev summer-bummer , got $100/the car for a week/didnt come home for 10, and drove to The City to viasit my cousins in The Bronx, my friends in Long Beach. Got knifed in The Bronx, a sucker punch knifing, took it off the guy, broke it across his face -- went surfing in LB, LI, NY in freezing water, and must've sang Be With Me a cp hundred times!! Great time to be 18.
