I was fortunate enough to see The Specials on this 30th Anniversary tour in Auckland NZ/Aotearoa. Terry started the show by saying "Hello, Auckland..Its great to be here" in that deadpan way he could deliver thier introduction. I turned to me partner and said "This is gunna be fuckin great"....and it was!!
@@jeffrussell488 Except for the fact that bridging the racial gap was, in fact, a stated goal of Two Tone, and so it is very relevant to mention it. Trying to get *Brownie points. Fucking idiot.

yeah !!!! you definitely have a biiiig collection - i have only 400 - this vinyl was literally consumed when i was 18 - and now i hear the same exact sound and energy - really unbelievable
They've had drummers since John Bradbury died and in normal circumstances you'd say they were a great drummer. However there is nobody to stand up to his standard and especially his feel. Just completely unique and sadly missed.
This is a huge, packed concert hall; ages i'm sure ranged teen to 60's and the entire place is dancing the whole time! Only SKA can provide that energy
I can remember watching them play Glastonbury and Amy Winehouse came on stage and was shouting at the crowd "don't you realise how lucky you are to be watching this band, fucking dance!!!" The crowd may as well had been watching paint dry for all the interest they were showing. Just goes to prove the saying " you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink " I never got to see them, RIP Mr. Bradley and Mr.Hall xxx
No words to describe what I feel when I see these guys playing... They're just the best... Long live SKA and the TWO-TONE scene... The SPECIALS will always rule... 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I was 16 in 1988 and working in a record shop in Holyoke, Massachusetts. I was a guitarist and into the rock of the day (hair bands of the 80s). Working at this shop was an angel by the name of Jodi Clements. She had a beautiful Mohawk and two tone style. She introduced me to The Selecter, Specials, Madness by making me a ska mix tape. So much gratitude I feel for that woman. Otherwise, I might have missed ska, reggae, and finding Trojan records from Jamaica. Thanks Jodi! You made a difference in this little metal head!

Aaaah mate. That nice a-capella piece in the middle of Nite Klub where an army of 40-50 year old blokes and birds sing every line to that song like they're back in 1979, THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT, MATE. A blindin' bit of trip down memory lane!
too true, i saw them in utrecht last month and newcastle last year, and i was, and still am one of those blokes (and probably always will be), they were sensational!
Greatest1979 That was fun,and evn though I kept saying that I was gonna stop watching after this or that song, I still ended up watching the whole thing---nice trip down memory lane for me, too! I remember all those songs---even the ones I didn't know were really good.
I had the opportunity to watch them a couple of years ago in Mexico City (born and raised) and it was one of the best concerts ever, everyone was dancing, with no fights, skins, and punx everywhere, enjoying themselves. So sad to hear about Terry but so happy that they brought so much joy into my heart when I was a teenager.
What a great concert to enjoy to help me overcome my sadness from knowing about Terry's suffering and passing. I am so glad they had this awesome show recorded.
Saw them in back 1980 a huge part of my life, got a skinhead the weekend after seeing Gangsters on Top of the Pops! Then the comeback in Brixton 2009 and probably even better... me and pretty much all the old boys around me had tears in our eyes. RIP Brad and El Tel.
Saw them last Tuesday at The Apollo Manchester, bloody fantastic! 34 years since I last saw them, still brilliant ......... the memories came flooding back.
Have you tried dancing for a couple of hours to The Specials, non stop and knocking on. It's the best feeling ever. Amazing who you meet in the pubs before a gig😎😎
wee brendan I now have arthritis in one of me knees which I'm sure has come on from dancing like a loony at all the gigs/festivals I've been too. Every gig overrides the pain I'm in now though because of the memories I have, even though I can't remember quite a few 😎😎😎😜
@@weebrendan4405 hi. I have music arthritis to. Oh but wasnt it wirth it all hey. The memories will remain with us forever, even though a lot of memories are blurred by all that was on offer, especially in the pubs before the gigs. Keep skanking mate.

I was in pain BUT ecstatic that I just saw one of the greatest bands ever. And I got to take a week and a half off work LOL
Feeling so sad for Terry's passing. Meet him years back in a show here in the Philippines. He is super accomodating to those who wanted to have a photo of him. One of my fave bands and front men :(
Lucky to have watched them live a few times . Brighton last year absolutely brilliant. RIP Terry and thanks for the memories as a reminder to us all like the last song says Enjoy yourself x
Man, this was one tight & right show. Thank you Terry and John and the rest of The Specials. You made this so much more than a 'reunion' tour. RIP Terry. Sorely missed.
John and Terry - thank you, thank you for bringing so much joy and thoughtful music that touched our lives for decades. So sad as you leave us far too soon - from Canada.
I was 16 when I saw The Specials at Tiffany's Coventry a couple of time back in 1979 and seen Neville Staples a couple of times since too. Incredible though seeing them again back in Coventry at the old Cathedral. The lyrics are tremendous and love them more now then ever.
Well put. "Do Nothing" is one of the most sublime singles I've ever heard. Odd it escaped my notice for decades. [I'm in California, grew up in '80s Central Valley and this band was off-radar at the time. Being a skatepunk I had tapes of The Beat, saw UB40 w/Chrissy Hynde @Berkeley Greek Theatre ~ '87.... but there was little else of English Ska breaking through around here. Squares stopped at The Police, while the stoners and DeadHeads might be into reggae. Little else _ska-related_ made it out here, and until 311 broke on MTV most Yanks had never heard of it.]
@@shaft9000 the whole 2tone movement was pretty big in US 1979-1980s, spawned a lot of ska bands from Heavy Manners in Chicago to Housewives Choice in Austin TX

A brilliantly shot video. Thank you so much. I can almost imagine myself there - and right back in mad teens. I wouldn't want to go back to my teens for love nor money, but might be worth it for moments such as these. Gutted to have missed the chance to be there. I hope to get another chance before I pop it - but maybe not a great idea - sure to shed tears openly for dearest Brad.
"A message to you" was used in a commercial for a national newspaper in Norway. (VG) I do believe it was 17 years ago. At the time I did not know who or what song it was, but it was revealed, once I became a true ska fan.
Music that influenced me at 13 years old and still does. That says it all really. Legend group from humble beginnings in Coventry and that makes it even better
It’s crazy but I took it personally when Terry left. It was like a friend from high school just died. it felt weird and personal. This is a great show featuring the raw energy, Roddy’s tasty guitar playing, John’s classic drumming ( RIP). I’m glad we all got to see and hear this important and powerful band one more time. every song legend and unforgettable
indeed, sir, indeed
Thanks, man!
It's great to see these guys together again, still sounding amazing. Their importance in helping bridge racial gaps thru music cannot be overstated.
Fucking brilliant
Come on kick d bucket
or you could've just said a group of lads having a brilliant time, fucking idiot trying to pick up browny points
@@jeffrussell488 Except for the fact that bridging the racial gap was, in fact, a stated goal of Two Tone, and so it is very relevant to mention it. Trying to get *Brownie points. Fucking idiot.
@@jeffrussell488 a racist indeed , we did not needed their crap back then to be friends
i was so lucky to be a young man when all this new music came out, skins, punk , new wave, and the good old heavy metal, i enjoyed all of it and still do, i have over 3000 pieces of vinyl to remind me of those exciting times. who watches tv when you can see bands like this every night on youtube
3000? WOW THAT'S GREAT
yeah !!!! you definitely have a biiiig collection - i have only 400 - this vinyl was literally consumed when i was 18 - and now i hear the same exact sound and energy - really unbelievable
Wooow 😍
Listening to and watching this i am i awe of how good a drummer Prince Rimshot really was and how essential he was to the sound of The Specials.
Oh, hell yeah. Thank for providing his name!
They've had drummers since John Bradbury died and in normal circumstances you'd say they were a great drummer. However there is nobody to stand up to his standard and especially his feel. Just completely unique and sadly missed.
@@craiglewis6145 best drummer was Lloyde Knibbs
This is a huge, packed concert hall; ages i'm sure ranged teen to 60's and the entire place is dancing the whole time! Only SKA can provide that energy
It's quite a pitty I never saw them....
I can remember watching them play Glastonbury and Amy Winehouse came on stage and was shouting at the crowd "don't you realise how lucky you are to be watching this band, fucking dance!!!"
The crowd may as well had been watching paint dry for all the interest they were showing. Just goes to prove the saying " you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink "
I never got to see them, RIP Mr. Bradley and Mr.Hall xxx
Oh my god I love this band, We are going miss you Terry! God bless!!
We are
No words to describe what I feel when I see these guys playing... They're just the best... Long live SKA and the TWO-TONE scene...
The SPECIALS will always rule...
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
RIP "Rico" Rodriquez and John "Brad" Bradbury... Thank you for entertaining us and being a part of our youth culture and beyond!

I wondering now why i still love The Specials and Ska... i'm 60 now.😮
Good on yer, mate! A Rudeboy for Life !
The original black and white. I was one of those 40-50 year olds. Good times.
Greatest1979
That was fun,and evn though I kept saying that I was gonna stop watching after this or that song, I still ended up watching the whole thing---nice trip down memory lane for me, too! I remember all those songs---even the ones I didn't know were really good.
+Greatest1979, ...hahaha, .........all the-- girls are slags ..and the-- beer tastes just like piss,
...lol ;)
Rust in peace Terry, i listen to the Specials, when i was a teenager now i am 57 , and i still listen, they are Special
Same as me m8 your 1 year behind me rip Terry and jon
I had the opportunity to watch them a couple of years ago in Mexico City (born and raised) and it was one of the best concerts ever, everyone was dancing, with no fights, skins, and punx everywhere, enjoying themselves. So sad to hear about Terry but so happy that they brought so much joy into my heart when I was a teenager.
I learnt that Brad has passed away only today.
First Rico, and now Brad. This is sad.
We will wail for you, brother. Rest in peace.
What a great concert to enjoy to help me overcome my sadness from knowing about Terry's suffering and passing. I am so glad they had this awesome show recorded.
Totally agree
Saw them in back 1980 a huge part of my life, got a skinhead the weekend after seeing Gangsters on Top of the Pops! Then the comeback in Brixton 2009 and probably even better... me and pretty much all the old boys around me had tears in our eyes. RIP Brad and El Tel.
Saw them last Tuesday at The Apollo Manchester, bloody fantastic! 34 years since I last saw them, still brilliant ......... the memories came flooding back.
Great to see no negative comments, the specials were special and bring back great memories of great times
Hearing the news that John Bradbury has passed away brought me here. So glad I did. I feel 18 again!!!!!! RIP John.
Rest in peace, Terry. Thanks for your music, and I hope the specials go on this important music.
Have you tried dancing for a couple of hours to The Specials, non stop and knocking on. It's the best feeling ever. Amazing who you meet in the pubs before a gig😎😎
Liverpool 69er my knees are still in agony a fortnight after seeing them in nottinham haha the joys of middle age 😊😊😊
wee brendan I now have arthritis in one of me knees which I'm sure has come on from dancing like a loony at all the gigs/festivals I've been too. Every gig overrides the pain I'm in now though because of the memories I have, even though I can't remember quite a few 😎😎😎😜
Modette69er Northern Soul long live Northern Soul
@@weebrendan4405 hi. I have music arthritis to. Oh but wasnt it wirth it all hey. The memories will remain with us forever, even though a lot of memories are blurred by all that was on offer, especially in the pubs before the gigs. Keep skanking mate.
As a teenager we used to skank, pogo and smash into each other on the dancefloor to this great music. Then I saw them live 5 years ago and left with a busted meniscus in my left knee LOL. I was in pain BUT ecstatic that I just saw one of the greatest bands ever. And I got to take a week and a half off work LOL
I just can't get enough of this, they all sound as if it was 1978.. peak just superb 🥰
Totally agree
So sad to hear of Terry’s passing…..RIP and thanks for incredible musical memories.
Feeling so sad for Terry's passing. Meet him years back in a show here in the Philippines. He is super accomodating to those who wanted to have a photo of him. One of my fave bands and front men :(
Why are Specials not a super group? Their songs are all Number One Hits!!!
two tone the specials the best
Lucky to have watched them live a few times .
Brighton last year absolutely brilliant.
RIP Terry and thanks for the memories as a reminder to us all like the last song says Enjoy yourself x
What a great live band!! Man I wish saw them live. Everybody was bang on. That guitarist is fantastic.
How could anyone give this a thumbs down, what a classic poignant band, forever a youth listening to this again.
Tight as fook....
I often watch gigs on UA-cam, usually skipping any crap bits
Not 1 second is skipped when I watch this
I ordered the DVD after seeing this :)
I've watched this concert numerous of times, and not missed a single second of it.
It's just pure class.
Actually it's
Special.
Amazing night so special man we these days. What is
Long live The Specials! RIP John Bradbury.
So so sad. Learnt a lot from him as a drummer.
Bitter Sweet
I could live inside this video forever. We missed you, Jerry! And we all miss Rico and Brad dearly.
Man, this was one tight & right show. Thank you Terry and John and the rest of The Specials. You made this so much more than a 'reunion' tour. RIP Terry. Sorely missed.
Absolutely legendary! Rest in peace Terry Hall 🌹
John and Terry - thank you, thank you for bringing so much joy and thoughtful music that touched our lives for decades. So sad as you leave us far too soon - from Canada.
Just found this... what a fab trip down memory lane! God they were brilliant! Still are!! Fantastic!!
Me too!!
@@mdfrenchy Me Three!!
I was 16 when I saw The Specials at Tiffany's Coventry a couple of time back in 1979 and seen Neville Staples a couple of times since too. Incredible though seeing them again back in Coventry at the old Cathedral. The lyrics are tremendous and love them more now then ever.
One of the most important & best bands the UK has ever produced. Just brilliant.
Absolutely.
One of my favorite bands. Just a 'good feeling' kind of music to escape to. Brings back a flood of memories. Thanks!
we all get old; but youth is easy to remember/this put a tear in me eye/memories are forever thank ska gods!!!!
Well said.
What I love about this, is they sound the same as 45 years ago. At 14 Terry Hall was my hero. Happy days ❤️❤️
the perfect ska sound, even after 30 years
bang on
closer to 40 now lol
The spot on band of the time, madness never stood a chance
yes - the specials were - special -
Madness were great as well
On a coin for me..Terry and Suggs both great front men...and a place for both...
@@midlifebiker7424 Terry isn't the best singer, but overall The Specials can't be beaten for their live gigs. I saw them live in Australia years ago and still one of the best gigs I've ever been to. That was a very very very long time ago.
I saw all the 2tone bands when they toured the US: Madness was hilarious, Specials were a wall of talent and The Beat was lightning in a jar - all so amazing. Never saw so much dancing outside of Latin musics
I so wish I'd had a chance to see them live !!!
Was 17 when these boys came out bloody loved them and the Beat etc.
still makes the hair stand up on my arms and neck, not just a band but a movement, superb
love Brad's hollow crack sound of his snare, just like on the studio recordings. What energy 30 years on guys! of course Terry has same disinterested bored look - haha! 2tone movt. was fairly big in US, we loved em all.
Yeah, that's Terry. Love him and his clear as a bell voice just the same. Wish he'd have as much fun as he gives to us!
And speaking of energy Neville Staples still pogoing nonstop.
I saw a Pearl video where John said he used a Ultracast snare, got one and tuned it to pitch. Man, it’s his sound!!!!!! ua-cam.com/video/3quelrt41io/v-deo.html That was the link, but it’s no longer up😞.
Been listening to the specials 4 40 years and I still love them r.i.p Nelson Mandela
"A message to you" was used in a commercial for a national newspaper in Norway. (VG)
I do believe it was 17 years ago.
At the time I did not know who or what song it was, but it was revealed,
once I became a true ska fan.
Music that influenced me at 13 years old and still does. That says it all really. Legend group from humble beginnings in Coventry and that makes it even better
Agree hands down best of all music 4 me!♡🎉
Maybe cus i live incov
Who wrote this cos promisin wernt me!!spooky😊

It’s crazy but I took it personally when Terry left. It was like a friend from high school just died. it felt weird and personal.
This is a great show featuring the raw energy, Roddy’s tasty guitar playing, John’s classic drumming ( RIP). I’m glad we all got to see and hear this important and powerful band one more time. Wish you were there Jerry.
Same here m8 I did too when Terry left
Fucking awesome, generational , inspirational ,sensational . I was 15 now i'm 60 was like yesterday.

Never got to see the Specials live but they were a band that definitely shaped my life as a young lad growing up in Scotland ❤❤ Will always have a place on my musical journey in the late 70s and early 80s, along with Madness, The Clash, Blondie and early electronic music like Kraftwerk, Simple Minds and Depeche Mode ❤
Great gig. Thanks for posting. The Drummer is brilliant.
I saw them at Coventry Richo arena for their 30th anniversary homecoming gig They blew the place apart awesome I had been waiting to see them since I was a ten year old who had just bought Gangsters and fallen in love. They were worth the wait. Went on to see them in Blackpool and Manchester but nothing beat their homecoming
one band that puts my mind and heart at the right place.. love forever.
I saw this tour in Manchester such a friendly joy filled evening and so amazing the energy coming off this band was incredible ....plus one great song after another.
Unbelievable to think this will never ever happen again so sad thank you so much for the Music 👏🏻 👏🏻
I am completely flabbergasted by this concert of The Specials!! I still can't believe how good this concert was!! I would have loved to be there
